00:02Well, it was the team's official welcome to Glasgow with athletes, coaches and dignitaries
00:07coming together for the Team Australia reception before perhaps one of the biggest moments
00:13of the Games itself.
00:15Olympic pole vault champion Nina Kennedy and Paralympic swimming star Tim Hodge were unveiled
00:20as the athletes who lead Australia into the opening ceremony.
00:24For Kennedy, it's another milestone after winning Commonwealth gold in Birmingham and
00:29Olympic gold in Paris.
00:31While Hodge says being named as Australia's first ever Kings baton bearer, a new tradition
00:35added to this Games is truly an honour.
00:38I was just kind of shocked.
00:40I was thinking out of all the 250 odd Australian athletes, why me?
00:47But no, it's an incredible honour to be representing Australia and to be the baton bearer and to
00:52be able to carry it into the stadium at the opening ceremony.
00:55Kennedy becomes just the fourth Australian track and field athlete to carry the flag at
01:01the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony just weeks after breaking her own Australian women's
01:06pole vault record.
01:08The pair will lead members of the 250 plus strong Australian team, many of them preparing for
01:14their first Commonwealth Games.
01:16And after a journey which saw these Games rescued by Glasgow after they were perhaps destined to
01:22not happen at all tomorrow, anticipation turns to celebration with the opening ceremony.
01:29And then of course, attention turns to that medal tally and Australia trying to finish on top.
