00:00Well, flooding is one of the big impacts that we're watching from Bertha, whether it's from heavy downpours or from
00:05storm surge, but either way, a lot of the risks are the same. So anyone that maybe haven't started seeing
00:12the impact just yet, but you're in our forecast area, know your risk. Are you close to the coast? Are
00:19you in a floodplain or low lying areas that are more susceptible to flooding from heavy rainfall? You want to
00:25check your insurance for coverage of flooding so you know what to expect as
00:29far as afterwards what to do if you do end up with some flooding. Now any storm drains, clear them
00:35of loose debris. That's going to prevent some of that flooding at least for a bit depending on how much
00:39rain you get or how much storm surge you get in your area. Also a good idea, prepare for power
00:45outages and that's across the board because wind's a problem too. Charge your electronic devices now before a potential power
00:52outage hits. Now when it comes to after the storm, after there's already flooding, there's a lot of risks in
00:58that flood water. I mean,
00:59you don't want to be anywhere near it for a lot of reasons. One of them electrical hazards, any kind
01:05of live wires that might be in that water that you might not even be able to see just, you
01:09know, taking a glance can lead to a shock or even electrocution. So you don't want to risk it. That
01:15water is also it's gross. Any kind of flood water, there's all kinds of stuff in there. It is very
01:20contaminated. Now the other thing that we always talk about, especially with roads, there can be structural damage that you
01:25just don't even necessarily see at first.
01:29Another reason you don't want to risk going through that flood water, whether it's walking or in any kind of
01:34vehicle. And then of course, all of that moisture just leads to mold and mildew. Now there's also all kinds
01:40of debris and there can be sharp objects that again, you might not be able to see at first glance
01:45in that water. Pests, wildlife, there's also a risk of gas leaks than any kind of storm. There's that mental
01:52health impact afterwards.
