00:00Then with Cam at 9-under, we start to rule guys out.
00:04So, Scotty, he's 8-under on the 18th tee, makes bogey, finishes a 7-under.
00:08Tommy Fleetwood made an amazing push on Sunday.
00:10The support this entire week there sounded incredible.
00:13Jordan Spieth was talking about saying, like,
00:15this is like a mini Ryder Cup just for Tommy Fleetwood.
00:18He walks up the 18th fairway with tears in his eyes,
00:21but he, too, ultimately finishes a 7-under.
00:24Bryson DeChambeau triples the 11th hole.
00:26That effectively rules him out.
00:27He finishes a 4-under.
00:29And then nobody in those 3rd or 2nd-to-last groups
00:32had a realistic chance standing on 18 tee.
00:34Like, see, we would have had to hole out his approach
00:36just to get to 9-under.
00:38So, it comes out of the final group.
00:40Sam Burns a shot off the lead at 8-under.
00:42Ryan Fox at 9-under.
00:43And just take us through each of the three shots
00:46Ryan Fox hit on 18, because as you noted at the top of the show,
00:49this hole played the most difficult at Royal Birkdale
00:51for the entire week and was on Sunday
00:54the second most difficult hole.
00:55So, this is like there were not a ton of birdies to be had.
00:58Yeah, honestly, I definitely want to get into 18,
01:01but I think it needs to start at 13.
01:03I think 13 is where all of this begins,
01:05because the 13th hole was a decision that had to be made off the tee.
01:10If you want to win the golf tournament
01:12and you're ready to play aggressive,
01:14you hit driver on that hole.
01:15Ryan Fox hits driver on that hole,
01:17ends up making a birdie with a wedge in.
01:19Now, I watched, let's see, who was it?
01:22Siwoo Kim hit iron off that tee and had 215 yards in.
01:26Ryan Gerrard hit driver, had 98 yards in.
01:28We're talking about 113-yard difference.
01:31And just the fact that there was multiple players
01:34that down the stretch hit driver on 13,
01:38I just felt like that was a time and a place to play aggressively
01:40if you were in the golf tournament.
01:42So, I love that Foxy did that.
01:44But 14, I'm watching all this from behind your group in front.
01:49So, all this is not quite as fresh
01:52as what I watched in the groups I was with.
01:54But I saw that he made birdie on 14.
01:56And then 15, I heard that his ball got stuck up against the lip
01:59and then ended up making a good bogey considering the bad break.
02:0416 still is the most under-talked about amazing birdies.
02:08Everybody was struggling getting that second shot close.
02:12The reason why is that green sits up.
02:15It's elevated, rolls off both sides.
02:17It was the hardest hole location they used all week.
02:19It's tucked right on top of these two little penal bunkers,
02:23short and right, that are just waiting for a misfire.
02:25Really just, honestly, it goes back to that conversation
02:28we're talking about with the hold shots.
02:30You couldn't get it close to the hole
02:32if you're trying to hit a straight shot.
02:34Well, you could, but you're aiming eight yards right,
02:37like eight yards right of the hole location,
02:39which is effectively three or four yards right of the green.
02:42Which is not a comfortable feeling knowing you can't miss right.
02:46So the fact that he was able to get up there,
02:48hit it pin high, and then walk in a birdie, incredible.
02:52Now, it didn't even birdie 17.
02:54So you're thinking like, okay, Ryan Fox, when he gets 18T,
02:58you know, he hit into that bunker yesterday,
02:59was able to, you know, muster something out of that bunker
03:03onto the green two-putt and make par.
03:05But I was thinking in my head, like,
03:08he's about to bogey this and lose, right?
03:10Like, that just felt like he was going to hit into one of these bunkers again.
03:13It was going to be the same situation.
03:15He was going to chunk it out.
03:16He's going to have to make a 10-footer.
03:18And that's hard to do, you know,
03:20when everything's on the line versus, like, everything to gain.
03:23Once he hit that fairway, it's like, you know what?
03:25It's just a nine iron.
03:26I'm a fader of the golf ball.
03:29It's time to play aggressive.
03:30And I loved that mentality that he had
03:33because he even talked about it in his 62.
03:36He's like, I was here to play aggressive,
03:37trying to chase down history
03:39and hit probably the best drive of his life,
03:43incredible iron shot,
03:45and got to give him props on the putt
03:47because I did not know what it was going to do
03:49and totally missed it.
03:51I mean, I think that's all, you know, very well said.
03:55I think from just at home watching on TV,
03:57you're thinking, you know,
03:58of course he's going to hit driver there,
03:59but to have it run and skirt the bunker like that
04:03and then you showed,
04:04you did such a great job of showing it on live from
04:06as you're walking up to that green
04:07where that like that false front on the right side
04:09that runs in the fair or the green side bunker there
04:11to hit the nine iron on that line
04:14and have it cut.
04:15To play aggressively, right?
04:17Oh, my goodness.
04:18It would have been easy to play it out left.
04:20Absolutely.
04:21It would have been easy to do that
04:22or if you take that line
04:23and you miss a little bit
04:24and you're in that green side bunker short-sighted,
04:27you know, there's no guarantee
04:28that you're going to be able to stop that bunker shot
04:30and make a par to go to a playoff.
04:32So he really was out there to win it,
04:34was not trying to defend that lead
04:35and not trying just to get into a playoff.
04:37And I think that was pretty admirable stuff.
