In 1930, near Lake Anjikuni in Canada, a fur trapper arrived at an Inuit village to find it completely deserted. Fires were still burning, food was cooking, and rifles were left leaning against the walls. Sled dogs were buried under snow and ancestor graves were emptied—yet not a single footprint was left in the snow.
