00:1420 persons plus an additional seven divers to assist Guyana in its response to the tragic capsizing of the MV
00:23Barima.
00:23The update provided by the Defense Minister also noted that the Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard has already deployed a
00:30C-26 aircraft with a crew of four to assist in aerial searches.
00:34In extending Trinidad and Tobago's heartfelt condolences to Guyana on the loss of life that occurred due to the capsizing
00:41of the MV Barima,
00:42Prime Minister Kamala Pesad-Besassa said in her statement on Sunday that air and naval assets and human resources from
00:49the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force are lending support to recovery efforts.
00:53Guyana's President Dr. Mohamed Ufran Ali said on his Facebook page on Sunday that 67 persons had been rescued so
01:00far as the search and rescue operation continues in response to the distress signal received from the MV Barima vessel
01:07close to seven miles offshore.
01:10The vessel, according to media reports from Guyana, was carrying 133 persons.
01:16On Monday, President Ali delivered a televised statement after visiting survivors as well as the families and relations of some
01:23of those still missing, an experience he described as a deeply emotional one.
01:29President Ali spoke about what he said was an ongoing rescue and recovery effort.
01:33Our priority remains to protect every life that still can be saved, to support those who have endured unimaginable trauma
01:41and loss, to comfort grieving families, and to account for every person who remains unaccounted for.
01:50Every minute matters. Every life matters. And every possible resource is being mobilized in pursuit of this mission.
02:00President Ali said this has been a truly national effort and a time of profound national anguish for Guyana as
02:07he acknowledged the assistance it has been receiving.
