00:00After seven years of legal battles and unexpected twists,
00:05former actress Zizi Izzet Abdul Samad will learn today whether she will be convicted or acquitted
00:10of abetting her late husband, former Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin,
00:16in a RM2.8 million corruption case.
00:20Zizi is accused of abetting Bung by receiving RM2.8 million in bribes,
00:26allegedly paid by two public mutual agents in 2015.
00:31The money was allegedly linked to Bung's role as Falkra Berhad's non-executive chairman
00:37and the approval of a RM150 million investment in unit trust funds.
00:44The trial began in 2020, with the prosecution calling 30 witnesses,
00:49including Falkra officials, MACC investigators and the two investment agents.
00:56Both Zizi and Bung denied wrongdoing.
01:00The Sessions Court ordered them to enter their defence in 2022,
01:04but the High Court acquitted them the following year
01:07after finding that key evidence had not been properly evaluated.
01:12The Court of Appeal overturned that decision in November 2024
01:16and ordered both accused to enter their defence.
01:21However, Bung died in December last year,
01:24leading to the case against him being discontinued and his acquittal.
01:29Zizi's trial continued and the court will now decide
01:32whether the prosecution has proven beyond reasonable doubt
01:36that she knowingly assisted her husband in committing the alleged offences.
01:41The verdict may not be the final chapter as either side can still appeal.
01:47Panyu Zhou, FMT.
