00:00Hello and welcome. I'm Sonal Mehrotra Kapoor. This is 5 Live.
00:05This Friday, we've got three stories for you that we really want to put a spotlight on.
00:10Number one, let's start with India getting its first hydrogen train.
00:14What is it all about? How much fuel does it save? How many people can travel?
00:18Everything that you need to know will be covered in this segment.
00:21Number two story is one where we're not really making a headway forward, but moving backwards.
00:28We're talking about the exodus that seems to be occurring in ISRO.
00:34Why exactly are so many talented scientists either taking early retirement from ISRO or simply refusing to join in?
00:44What's the story there? We've got a former ISRO scientist join us on the program to take you through the
00:50real story.
00:51And then this is the story, the third one that is really breaking.
00:54So, so many hearts and giving all mothers really a shudder.
01:00In a Lucknow school, a five-year-old is assaulted.
01:06Not by a teacher, not by somebody who works in the school, but by a fellow kid.
01:13Now, this is before you start thinking that the kids were just having fun or a fight got aggressive.
01:19No, there's another kid equally troubled who goes on to thrash, pull their hair, beat people black and blue when
01:29she's left in charge of the classroom as the teacher takes a break.
01:34What trauma is she really putting down on other kids?
01:37What's the story here?
01:39We'll decode all of that as well.
01:41But first up, as always, let me take you through the top headlines at this hour.
01:47India's rail network has entered a hydrogen era.
01:50Prime Minister has flagged off the country's first hydrogen-powered passenger train between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana, placing India
01:57amongst a select group of nations operating hydrogen trains.
02:01Designed and built in India, the train runs on hydrogen fuel cells, emits only water vapour and heat and is
02:08equipped with advanced safety systems.
02:10Prime Minister also hailed hydrogen train as a fuel and energy remains stuck in Hormuz.
02:19Shocking school assault in Lucknow.
02:21Five-year-old nursery student was beaten up by his class monitor inside a private school, with the family now
02:29claiming that the assault continued for nearly 12 minutes.
02:32The entire scene has been caught on CCTV camera footage.
02:35The child's injuries have triggered outrage now, leading to police investigation.
02:41The accused student has been expelled while investigators probe if there is any lapse in supervision by the school staff.
02:49But should the student really be expelled?
02:51How much does a five-year-old really know?
02:54Aren't we supposed to go deep into who's, you know, modelling all this in front of him, which is what
03:00led to the attack?
03:01We'll discuss that on the programme.
03:03Also on the programme, an India Today investigation into the death of the 11-year-old Vihan in Mumbai's tree
03:09collapse has triggered a major political storm in Maharashtra.
03:12A day after India Today spoke with Vihan's grieving parents, the report has sparked uproar in the Assembly,
03:18with the BGP tearing up the official inquiry report and demanding a fresh probe.
03:23The opposition has alleged attempts to shield those responsible, turning the tragedy into a major accountability battle.
03:31A chilling murder has come in from Ghaziabad.
03:34A 15-year-old girl was pushed to her death for the fourth floor of a building,
03:38with police arresting a 30-year-old man, accused of stalking and harassing her.
03:42The victim's family alleges the crime followed days after the teenager resisted his advances and slapped him even.
03:49Police have now arrested the accused and the case is under investigation.
03:54The monsoon session is set to begin a political showdown with the delimitation bill in Parliament.
04:01NDA has begun firming up its floor strategy, holding key meetings chaired by Rajnath Singh to assess numbers for crucial
04:09constitutional amendments.
04:10Meanwhile, the opposition is also recalibrating with the DMK, indicating it will decide its stand on delimitation only after the
04:18bill is introduced,
04:19also setting the stage for intense political manoeuvring inside and outside Parliament.
04:26Another key piece of legislation expected in the monsoon session is the One Day Mataram Bill,
04:31which according to sources, the bill will be introduced first in the Rajasabha,
04:35where the union minister, Amit Shah, is expected to table it.
04:38The proposed legislation is likely to be closely watched as Parliament gears up for another high-stakes session.
04:45Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk's indefinite fast has entered its 20th day and concerns are growing over his health.
04:52A fresh debate has emerged beyond the protest itself.
04:55Actor Amir Khan has dismissed claims that the blockbuster Three Idiots was actually inspired by Wangchuk,
05:01calling it a complete misconception.
05:03His response comes after the actor Omi Vaidya linked the film to Wangchuk while expressing support for Wangchuk's hunger strike.
05:12There has been support coming in.
05:14People on the ground have increased, but the government is yet to engage
05:18and a lot of A-listing celebrities are still to speak up.
05:24Fresh Covid cases have triggered renewed caution in Andhra Pradesh.
05:28Three new infections have been reported in the Gantur district,
05:32while additional active cases have been detected in Karpa and Visaka, Patnam.
05:37Health officials say most patients are stable,
05:40with some under home isolation and others receiving treatment.
05:43Samples have been sent for genome sequences to identify the variant
05:48and authorities setting up surveillance amidst a rise in fresh infections.
05:52It is yet to be established if these patients actually receive the vaccination.
05:59In a major counter-terror operation, Gujarat ATS busted another alleged Jaish-e-Mohamed module,
06:06arresting five more suspected linked to the eight terrorists held earlier.
06:11Sources say the accused were allegedly planning terror attacks in Gujarat and other parts of the country
06:16and had conducted multiple trial blasts using improvised explosive devices.
06:21Also, investigations claim that electronic evidence points to direct links
06:26between some of the suspects and Pakistan-based Jaish headquarters.
06:32And Iran-U.S. conflict is widening rapidly for the sixth consecutive night,
06:38as U.S. carried out fresh strikes inside Iran,
06:41with Iranian media reporting that six bridges, a railway station and other infrastructure were hit.
06:47Tehran has responded with missiles and drones targeting U.S. bases.
06:52Gulf nations as Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, Syria
06:55find themselves caught in the expanding regional fallout.
07:03Alright, Prime Minister Modi has flagged off today India's first hydrogen-powered passenger train,
07:08marking a major milestone for Indian railways.
07:11This indigenous-developed zero-emission train puts India amongst a select group of nations
07:16using hydrogen technology for rail transport.
07:20How exactly does it work?
07:22What will it change for you and me?
07:23The story reports.
07:46A historic milestone for India's railways.
07:56Prime Minister Modi flagged off India's first hydrogen-powered passenger train
08:00between Jeend and Sonipat in Haryana.
08:07With this, India joins an elite group of nations operating hydrogen-powered trains.
08:14Any minute from now, we will also see the visuals of PM Narendra Modi,
08:17who has just flagged off this train.
08:20He took a journey in the hydrogen-powered engine of this train,
08:27and after that, this train has been flagged off.
08:30We are now moving from Jeend towards the Sonipat.
08:34It is really a very proud moment that our Jeend district is a very good journey
08:41to start on this hydrogen train,
08:43which is completely pollution-free.
08:46The special thing about it is that it is the largest train in India.
08:56Designed, engineered and integrated in India,
08:59this 10-coach train can carry around 2,600 passengers.
09:03It operates at 75 km per hour on the Jeend-Sonipat route
09:08and has a design speed of 110 km per hour.
09:12Powered by a 1,200 kW proton exchange membrane fuel cell,
09:17the train produces electricity on board using hydrogen and oxygen.
09:22It's only emissions, water vapour and heat.
09:26No diesel, no petrol, no carbon emissions during operation.
09:32Hydrogen stored in high-pressure cylinders is supplied to fuel cells.
09:37Inside the fuel cell, hydrogen reacts with oxygen to generate electricity.
09:42The electricity powers the train's traction motors.
09:46Lithium-iron-phosphate batteries store excess energy
09:49and also recover power during regenerative braking,
09:53improving efficiency while reducing hydrogen consumption.
10:00The train is equipped with advanced safety systems
10:04capable of detecting hydrogen leaks, heat, flames and smoke.
10:10India's largest railway hydrogen storage and refuelling facility
10:14has also been set up at Jeend.
10:17Built to international safety standards,
10:20the entire project has been developed in India
10:22under the guidance of the Research, Design and Standards Organization,
10:27supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat Initiative
10:29and National Green Hydrogen Mission.
10:33Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said,
10:36hydrogen technology represents the future of rail transport.
10:40He said, the launch gives Jeend a special place in India's history.
10:45He said, the launch gives you an incredible structure of rail transport.
10:56And, when I'm talking about the results,
10:57I don't have any Hz with the various needs of Australia,
10:58but I'm talking about the launch of the September of the July.
11:01but the launch has changed,
11:03the actual result of the year of the year.
11:06The launch of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year of the year
11:09of the year of the year,
11:09BJP and the NCAA World of the year of the year,
11:20Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav called the project a historic technological achievement.
12:06With indigenous technology, zero emissions, operations and advanced safety systems, India's
12:14first hydrogen train marks a significant step towards greener transportation.
12:22With Piyush Misha from Jeend in Haryana, Bureau Report, India Today.
12:36Now let's talk about another issue that has really caught the imagination of all people
12:41who own a petrol car in India today.
12:43Just yesterday we brought to you the story of one man in Chhattisgarh who fought the case
12:49in a consumer court only to win it.
12:51He now gets a brand new car because according to the court, he was not made aware that his
12:56car is not E20 petrol blend or ethanol actually compatible.
13:01But the heart of the landmark legal battle that could actually have implications for millions
13:06of Indian households of the country is not just that, it only takes us forward into what
13:12this means to you and me.
13:14Now despite this entire story coming to us from Raipur, the consumer commission there ruling
13:21that has come in the favour of the consumer, the commission held that the buyer had effectively
13:26been left with no choice but to use E20 fuel and found the dealer liable.
13:31Now, Maruti Suzuki has strongly contested that order and announced it will challenge the verdict
13:38before a higher forum.
13:39In a detailed statement, the company says that the Grand Vitara was fully E20 compatible from the very beginning
13:46and that this was clearly mentioned in the owner's manual as well.
13:50It maintains that the engine damage was caused by fuel contamination, not E20 fuel and argues
13:57that the key technical facts and evidence were not adequately reflected in the consumer court's order.
14:02But the consumer commission took a very different view, remember.
14:05It directed the dealer to provide the buyer with either a new E20 compatible vehicle within 45 days,
14:12failing which the buyer must be given a full refund of the money that he paid for,
14:17not the current value of the car, along with 1 lakh as compensation for mental harassment.
14:22The commission also ordered 7% annual interest if the compensation is delayed.
14:27We spoke to the complainant yesterday, we brought out the full story for you.
14:30Go back to our YouTube channel and check if you haven't already.
14:33But beyond this legal dispute, the statement raises a broader question over what actually
14:38led to the engine damage and how such failures should be investigated.
14:43This matter, remember, goes beyond just one consumer, beyond, you know, just one car or one brand
14:50because this is one of the first major rulings linked to the E20 fuel rollout.
14:56Now, as the country expands the use of ethanol blended fuel, we are made to understand by the government
15:01that we are E20 right now.
15:02It will be 25, 30, all the way to E100 as well.
15:06The case raises broader questions about, is India ready?
15:11Are our cars ready?
15:13And importantly, what's the rush?
15:15What's the opaqueness of policy?
15:17Why weren't we told that E20 had already blended in to all fuels across the country?
15:23And also, why were people given, citizens given, no other choice?
15:32But talking about choices here, let's go from, you know, cars and vehicles on the road to
15:41the ones that go in the space.
15:44But I'm told we'll take a break from that for a moment and cut across to where the Prime
15:50Minister is at the moment in Jalandhar and speaking.
15:53Let's listen in.

41:36India's space program is reaching for the moon, Mars and human space flight.
41:41But even as those ambitions grow, ISRO is confronting a challenge much closer to home,
41:47retaining its scientific talent.
41:50More than 100 scientists have reportedly resigned or taken voluntary retirement over the past few months,
41:57prompting the Department of Space to tighten exit rules.
42:01Scientists working on flagship missions will now require Department of Space approval
42:06before they can resign or even opt for voluntary retirement,
42:09a move aimed at safeguarding strategically important national programs.
42:14So why are experienced scientists choosing to leave?
42:16Well, experts say that the biggest attraction is India's fast growing private space sector.
42:22Since the sector was opened up to private participation in 2020,
42:27companies building rockets, satellites, sort of propulsion systems have expanded rapidly,
42:32creating new career opportunities.
42:35Former ISRO veterans are also mentoring them, many of these startups that have come along.
42:41Along with the chance to working on cutting-edge technologies, scientists are being offered higher salaries, remember?
42:48Stock options, faster promotions, leadership roles, making the entire commercial space ecosystem
42:54an increasingly attractive destination for experienced talent.
42:59The concern is that many of those leaving have contributed to missions such as Chandrayaan 3,
43:06like Gaganyan, like the Spadex, launch vehicles programs and satellite missions as well.
43:13Replacing that specialized experience is not as simple as hiring fresh graduates.
43:19Now, this is concerning, right? For nations, you know, the ambitions that we have and how much the entire ISRO
43:29ecosystem can grow.
43:30Now, responding to these reports, Union Minister Jitendra Singh has sought a play-down concern,
43:36saying that personal movement is a routine administrative process.
43:39Many scientists leave while many others join and there is no larger controversy surrounding the matter.
43:44Even so, the episode highlights a new reality for India's space program.
43:49Attracting talent is no longer the only challenge.
43:53Retaining, it may be just as important as the country pursues its next generation of space missions.
44:03Moving on, and this story is coming to us from another classroom, another horror.
44:08How safe are our classrooms? We've debated this question time and again, but how safe are they if a teacher
44:14steps out for a little while?
44:16A disturbing case has come up from Lucknow that has put a question mark under this entire ecosystem, really, of
44:24the classroom.
44:25Now, you see what's happening over there.
44:28A five-year-old nursery student was assaulted by his own class monitor, his own class monitor, we are told,
44:35inside the classroom while the teacher was away for a little while.
44:39What you're seeing right now is a CCTV footage.
44:42It shows a young student being repeatedly slapped, punched, having his hair pulled by the class monitor.
44:49And the entire incident then came to light after the child returned home with visible facial injuries.
44:55Look at his condition. We'll pop out that picture for you as well on the condition of the kid who
45:00was actually slapped.
45:03Let's throw that picture up as well, showing the condition of the kid.
45:09That's his condition.
45:11Beaten up to bruises by another classmate.
45:17The alleged CCTV footage has now, since then, become center of an investigation.
45:23The family cleaning, it clearly captures the assault inside the classroom.
45:27Parents alleged that the assault continued for nearly 12 minutes without any intervention from a teacher or school staff member.
45:36They are demanding strict action against those responsible.
45:39A probe into why the teacher was not present, accountability for any negligence,
45:43safe guards to prevent any such incident in the future and a fair police investigation.
45:50The school has responded by expelling the student accused of the assault.
45:55But remember, the student who assaulted, it's also just five years old.
45:59The principal says that the school has also lodged a complaint with the police, initiated an initial review as well,
46:06and assured the family that stricter supervision and prevention measures will be put in place.
46:12Police are now examining the CCTV footage and investigating whether there was any lapse in the supervision.
46:18So the question before us is simple.
46:20The teacher clearly should not have left the classroom unsupervised.
46:26And then the more troubling one, what propels?
46:29What pushes a five-year-old to such level of assault?
46:34Who are they really mirroring?
46:35Somebody at home or someone at school?
46:47Do you believe that there are不了 of isolation, iology?
46:50all, the test for renovation and out of the hospital. Something happens
46:57so far that if you might find the classroom often? Do you
47:01know what and why there are more interests? Spirit Institutes
47:04main up north of the hospital? Wanna see an

47:06from Karun Kumar Goyal, Chairman, Surgical Oncology, Andromeda Cancer Hospital, Sonipak.
47:11First thing to know, autophagy is not a loosely used term, it is actual, established science.
47:16In fact, it won the Nobel Prize in 2016.
47:19The scientists who had mapped it, told him about this process, he got it.
47:23What process is it?
47:24If you say it in an easy way, autophagy is in your cells,
47:28the damaged parts are removed and recycled and rejuvenated.
47:37The daily process of your cells is not the same.
47:41The whole cells are not destroyed.
47:43It can be rejuvenated.
47:46So now that we know that the science established, how does it actually benefit our body?
47:51Research shows that autophagy helps clear out damaged proteins,
47:55the kinds that are linked to neuro-degenerative conditions.
47:59It also plays a role in regulating metabolism and supports immune function.
48:03All of these, remember, is something that those who have come out of a very critical illness,
48:08like cancer, might actually need.
48:10So the question is, do we induce it?
48:13And Sonali Baintri has said that they induce fasting,
48:17do we actually work?
48:19So see, this is our conventional wisdom,
48:22that autophagy can trigger autophagy from fasting.
48:25But how many hours, there is a lot of debate.
48:28With research, when we experimented with mice,
48:30after 24 hours, autophagy started to peak.
48:35Which is why they say that at least 24 to 48 hours of fasting
48:39is required for this process to kick in.
48:42And this is the uncertainty, lack of data,
48:45which doctors are saying.
48:47But having said that,
48:50like always in life,
48:51this whole debate is happening in half-truths.
48:55Sonali Baintri has never said that his cancer has been cured.
48:59He said that in cancer recovery,
49:01and without relapsing,
49:03autophagy has helped her.
49:05Now how to tell liver doc to how to say it is difficult,
49:08because you can understand.
49:09Internet headlines and understand this,
49:12Sonali Baintri is not all wrong,
49:15and liver doc is not all right.
49:17They are both correct in their own way.
49:19For us to understand the truth,
49:21you have to get into the details,
49:22and I hope this video helped you doing that.
