Transcript
00:00I am a transgender man, and I grew up in the Mormon church.
00:04Emmett Preciado, an American transgender actor and singer,
00:07has shared his story online about being a transgender Mormon.
00:10Hello everyone, it's Emmett.
00:12I am five months on testosterone.
00:15Posting mostly on TikTok, where he has almost 300,000 followers,
00:19Emmett candidly discusses his journey from Mormonism to transitioning.
00:22Emmett left home in Nebraska at the age of 19
00:24to spend a year and a half as a sister missionary in Utah.
00:27When he completed his mission, he then returned home
00:29and began his transition.
00:31I always knew that there was a reason that I served in Utah.
00:35I feel kind of like I'm supposed to be here
00:38to help broaden the perspectives that people have on the LGBT community,
00:44especially in Utah.
00:45A lot of people here are very conservative and close-minded.
00:48After starting his transition, Emmett was barred from entering his temple.
00:51The Mormon church isn't healthy or safe for queer individuals.
00:55There's things that I miss.
00:56I miss the community.
00:57I miss feeling almost sort of like I belonged.
01:01Emmett knew from a very young age that he was different,
01:03but he didn't know or fully understand what transgender was.
01:06As a kid, I knew I was attracted to women,
01:09and I knew that I felt like a boy in a girl's body,
01:12but I didn't know what the word was until I got into high school.
01:15Emmett started his physical transition in 2015 taking testosterone.
01:19Then in April 2016, he underwent top surgery.
01:22He vlogged the experience, sharing emotional clips of his reaction to his chest reveal.
01:26I don't have boobs anymore.
01:29Is that a good cry or a bad cry?
01:31That's a great cry.
01:32It's so sad.
01:34He now very openly shares stories post-transition to his TikTok,
01:38answering FAQs and explaining details of his procedures.
01:41I went with radial forearm phalloplasty, so RFF.
01:46I went to my surgeon and gave him the exact measurements of the perfect size that I wanted.
01:53He explained that he could do his very best to accommodate that.
01:58Okay, let's talk about the pump.
01:59Emmett has found a real community online and aims to inspire other trans-Mormons to feel less alone.
02:04Being trans and Mormon, it's hard because you feel sometimes like an outsider.
02:10You feel unaccepted and judged.
02:12It's easy to feel like an outcast.
02:14Our church leaders are kind of in the dark right now because they don't know how to counsel us.
02:19So let's talk.
02:20Let's talk about stuff.
02:21Let's all help each other out.
02:23Let's be friends.
02:23I want to find you all.
02:25Emmett has also gone viral for sharing his fitness transformation.
02:28If you know you're getting top surgery, building up your pecs just a little bit will help your surgeon be
02:35able to line up your pec muscle with your incision.
02:39Meet Emmett Preciado, a trans-mask fitness enthusiast who's reshaping how we see strength inside and out.
02:45Emmett shares his fitness journey online, inspiring thousands.
02:49But for him, it's more than just about getting fit.
02:52It's about finding confidence and celebrating identity.
02:55When it comes to Emmett's workout routines, he hypes bodyweight exercises up.
02:59He does his favorite ab exercise, including such leg throws, abs with wheels, sit-ups with added resistance.
03:06His go-to move is the classic push-ups.
03:08Push-ups are great because they work multiple muscles.
03:11It's a good upper body exercise.
03:14When it comes to Emmett's favorite workout equipments, the push-up board and wrist straps are at the top of
03:19the list.
03:19After doing a lot of push-ups, he noticed his wrists would get sore, forcing him to take recovery breaks.
03:25To avoid injury, he now wears wrist straps for both push-ups and bench presses.
03:29These straps provide the support needed to push through his workouts without compromising form or safety, ensuring he can keep
03:36building strength without setbacks.
03:37Emmett has always been candid about his trans journey, where he shares advice to get in the gym before surgery.
03:42Building up your pecs just a little bit, building up those muscles, will help your surgeon be able to line
03:50up your pec muscle with your incision.
03:53For Emmett, working out isn't just about the physical.
03:56It's about mental health, self-discovery, and creating a space for himself in a world that often defines strength narrowly.
04:03People will always try to discourage you and tell you that you can't do something, that you can't pursue your
04:08goals, you can't pursue your dreams.
04:09But those are their limits.
04:11You are the only person who needs to believe in you.
