00:00So we were talking about Argentina.
00:02They advanced to the World Cup Finals.
00:05Just to refresh your memories,
00:08they played Cape Verde in the knockout round.
00:10They were tied at two, won that in extra time.
00:13That was a spectacular game, too.
00:16Then they played Egypt.
00:18Everybody thought they were going to pummel Egypt.
00:19Egypt's up 2-0 with about 10 to 15 minutes to go.
00:24They come back to win that one, 3-2,
00:27overcoming the two-goal deficit.
00:29Switzerland, they're expected to pound Switzerland.
00:32Tie game, they end up winning that one 3-1,
00:34but it was an extra time win.
00:36And then yesterday against England,
00:38once again, they come back,
00:41score twice in six minutes,
00:44including an assist from Messi
00:46for the stoppage time winner.
00:48So I think it was just,
00:50I thought it was a spectacular game.
00:53I think I looked at the early line.
00:56It was like Spain minus 150.
00:57Does that make sense to you?
01:00When was the last time,
01:01I have no idea on the history,
01:03when was the last time a team has won back-to-back?
01:06Oh, I'd have to pull up the list of World Cup champs.
01:08I don't know that.
01:10Is that something that historically has happened multiple times?
01:13Or is it pretty darn rare?
01:15I think it's very, very rare.
01:16It's happened before, I think, with Brazil,
01:17maybe a long time ago.
01:19Yeah.
01:20I think it's been a long time.
01:22Everyone knew.
01:23All 8 billion people on the planet
01:25knew what was going to happen,
01:27that final 30 minutes of the game.
01:28There's too many chances.
01:29As soon as they brought Burn in,
01:30the 6-7 donk,
01:31and you're giving up possession,
01:33they can't score
01:34if the ball's on the other side of the pitch.
01:37And England had no interest in attacking
01:40or moving the ball forward,
01:42and they were just going to take their chances
01:43on trying to clear it.
01:44And maybe you want to put pressure
01:46on the best player in the world
01:48and not let them have 12 crosses
01:51or whatever that was
01:52in the final 15-20 minutes.
01:53That was insane.
01:54Of course they're going to bury one of those.
01:56Didn't they do that against Mexico,
01:58going back to the Mexico game?
02:00This isn't Mexico.
02:01I know.
02:01I'm just saying that the Mexico game
02:03was similar,
02:04except Mexico couldn't put it in,
02:06where they were pressing the action,
02:09cross, cross, cross,
02:10and really,
02:11because they were playing in Mexico,
02:13you saw this energy
02:14for really half an hour straight,
02:18and England was able to ward them off.
02:20They've got a really good goalie.
02:22I mean,
02:24the reality is
02:25Argentina could have scored more goals.
02:26They hit the post on one.
02:27Oh, they had a couple of really good looks
02:29at headers.
02:29The goalie made a great save on another.
02:31I mean, Pickford's great,
02:32but even the best goalies,
02:34they're going to wilt at some point
02:36with that sort of relentless attack.
02:38Well, some of them you have no chance.
02:39Coming away for 30 minutes.
02:40Well, some of them you have no chance.
02:41Yeah, like the header.
02:43I mean, there was no chance
02:44he was going to stop that goal.
02:46And the shot,
02:47I can't remember what the name
02:49of the guy is who took it,
02:50but he completely hit it
02:52opposite side,
02:53curling away from the goalie.
02:55Gonzalez, I think it was.
02:55His perfectly placed shot.
02:57I'm not blaming the goalie.
02:58Well, of course,
02:59it wasn't the goalies.
02:59I'm just saying that
03:01they have faced a relentless attack.
03:03Yeah.
03:04It was in Mexico,
03:05and look,
03:07I'm not saying I love the strategy,
03:08but you're only a few minutes
03:09away from winning it.
03:12You're a few minutes away
03:13from winning it.
03:14Yeah, but it's just a long time
03:14to do that.
03:1535 minutes or whatever the hell.
03:16It's a long time to defend
03:17the greatest player
03:20in the history of soccer.
03:20I felt like it was too many chances.
03:22In fact, I might have tweeted it
03:23in the middle of it.
03:23There's just too many chances.
03:24Like, you know,
03:25they're going to break through.
03:26By the way,
03:26the last back-to-back champs,
03:28it was Brazil,
03:2958 and 62.
03:31So it's been that long.
03:32It's been a long time.
03:32A little bit before our time.
03:34But again,
03:34just an incredible run
03:35going back to the Cape Verde game
03:38who nobody thought had a chance.
03:39The Egypt game.
03:41Yeah.
03:41And then this one.
03:43Argentina is just some sort of magic
03:45they've got,
03:45and obviously they're led
03:46by the best player in the world.
03:47But if Spain is,
03:49I mean,
03:50if they're still minus 150,
03:51that's a fairly big favorite.
03:54Right?
03:54And Spain came out
03:55with that early dud,
03:57the first game, right?
03:57Remember when they benched them all
03:59and a couple of those other guys?
04:00Yeah,
04:00they drew with Cape Verde.
04:02Yeah.
04:02That was kind of a dud.
04:04Since then,
04:04I think they've been pretty darn good.
04:06Well,
04:06they've been locked down defensively.
04:07Yeah.
04:08Only one goal allowed
04:09the entire tournament.
04:11Right.
04:11Pretty sure I know the answer,
04:12but I'm going to throw out
04:13the question anyway.
04:14Did you guys watch the ESPYs?
04:16No.
04:17I mean,
04:17I want to play the guessing game
04:19with you guys then.
04:20I like games.
04:21I like guessing games.
04:23All right.
04:24Who was your best athlete,
04:27men's sports,
04:28best single game performance?
04:30I mean,
04:31are you going to give me
04:32a multiple choice?
04:34Yeah,
04:34I don't have that.
04:35It's Shohei Otani.
04:36Okay.
04:37I mean,
04:38you're asking me to pick one.
04:39Best NFL player.
04:41Best NFL player from last year.
04:44Sam Darnold.
04:46Matthew Stafford won that.
04:48Matt Stafford.
04:48Okay.
04:48Put up some sick numbers.
04:50Best NBA player.
04:52Jalen Brunson,
04:53I would assume.
04:54I believe Jalen Brunson won that.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Yeah.
04:57So the ESPYs went down last night.
05:00I'm pretty sure
05:01that they're going to put me
05:02in a pine box
05:04or an urn
05:06or bury me in the base of a tree
05:08or shoot me off into space
05:09and I'm never going to watch
05:11the ESPYs
05:12between now and that point.
05:15It does not,
05:15I mean,
05:16I feel like it was cool
05:17when it first came out
05:18and it's just,
05:18I don't need to watch it.
05:20I don't know.
05:20I feel like it was cool
05:2115 years ago maybe
05:22when they first did it.
05:24Can anybody give me the point
05:25of watching the ESPYs?
05:27I guess if you're into that.
05:31Raise money for cancer.
05:32I mean,
05:32if you're so into sports.
05:34That part is good.
05:35Good fundraising arm
05:36for the Jimmy V Foundation.
05:38That's a positive.
05:39Savannah Bananas.
05:41Savannah Bananas were there.
05:43Oh yeah.
05:44If you're so into
05:45celeb culture
05:46and sports
05:47and you feel like
05:48maybe you get a chance
05:49to see your athlete
05:51in a different vein.
05:52I love sports
05:53in certain respects.
05:54I don't need to see
05:55the Savannah Bananas
05:56dancing around
05:57on the ESPY stage.
05:59Oh,
05:59they were dancing around though.
06:00Yeah,
06:00I really don't,
06:01I don't need that
06:02in my life.
06:04Yeah.
06:04I think my life's okay
06:06without the ESPYs.
06:06Maybe like
06:07Marcelo Hernandez.
06:09It's the guy
06:09from Saturday Night Live
06:10that's gotten very popular.
06:11He was the host.
06:12I mean,
06:13I know who you're talking about
06:14but he's not going to,
06:16he's not going to draw
06:16these casual eyeballs in
06:18to watch the ESPYs.
06:21I don't think you're watching
06:22WNBA either
06:23but Caitlin Clark
06:25is the most popular
06:28WNBA player
06:29and controversial player
06:31and yesterday
06:32she was Rick
06:35which happens a lot
06:36and apparently
06:37she yelled at a referee,
06:39got in her face,
06:40screamed multiple expletives
06:42at her,
06:42said give me a blanking call.
06:44Blank.
06:45I got fouled five times.
06:47So she continues to be
06:49kind of the center
06:49of attention
06:50in the WNBA.
06:53Back to the ESPYs
06:54for a second.
06:55Do you think Mike Tyson
06:57knows who Shohei Ohtani is?
07:00Mike does?
07:00Well, I saw the write-up
07:02about it.
07:02It appears he doesn't.
07:04So Shohei Ohtani
07:05won this best
07:06performance award
07:07and after, I guess,
07:10Mike Tyson,
07:11you could hear him
07:11on the microphone
07:12say,
07:13Shohei's a guy?
07:15Right.
07:15No idea.
07:16Shohei, that's a man?
07:18What?
07:19Completely oblivious.
07:20No, Ohtani wasn't there
07:21so they had to do the old
07:22he thanks you
07:24from afar,
07:24whatever the heck
07:25they say.
07:26Right.
07:26And do you think
07:28he should know
07:28who Shohei Ohtani is?
07:30I don't know.
07:31He's big into weed.
07:32I don't know.
07:33I mean,
07:34unless he's like
07:35a big baseball guy,
07:36he probably doesn't have to.
07:37If you consider yourself
07:38a baseball guy,
07:39a seam head,
07:39then you have to know
07:40who Shohei Ohtani is.
07:40Do you need to be
07:41a baseball guy?
07:44I don't know.
07:45I guess if you're
07:46a big sports fan,
07:47you should know
07:47who Shohei Ohtani is.
07:49Like, he's a unicorn.
07:50He's a guy that pitches
07:51and can hit 40 dingers
07:54in a season.
07:54Does Mike Tyson
07:55strike you as a guy
07:56that's a big sports guy?
07:56You think he sits around
07:57on the NFL Sundays
07:58and just consumes football
08:00and watches World Cup?
08:02I mean,
08:02it just doesn't strike me
08:03as that kind of guy.
08:04I feel like he's
08:05with the weed
08:06and the pigeons
08:07and that's about it.
08:08He's doing his own thing.
08:09He's his tigers
08:09back in the day.
08:10He's an eccentric dude.
08:12He's just a weird dude.
08:13His face tattoos.
08:14Yeah.
08:14I don't think you have
08:15to be a big sports fan
08:16to know who Shohei is.
08:18I think you have
08:18to be alive.
08:20Well, I know my mom's alive.
08:22She doesn't know who he is.
08:23She's 90.
08:24Yeah.
08:24I'm at 89.
08:25I mean, my mom's in her 80s.
08:26There's no chance
08:27she knows who Shohei Ohtani is.
08:29Yeah.
08:29If you're over 80,
08:30maybe you get a pass.
08:31Yeah.
08:31If you're a senior,
08:32you're still like a
08:33deep senior citizen.
08:35I don't know, man.
08:37Like your average,
08:38does your average
08:39like Uber driver
08:40know who Shohei is?
08:42I think so.
08:43I bet you could walk
08:43down the street
08:44and you had a big
08:46blown up picture
08:46of Shohei Ohtani
08:47not wearing his
08:49baseball uniform.
08:50Yeah.
08:50I would bet
08:5250% or less
08:53of the people
08:53that saw his picture
08:54would not know who he is.
08:55I wouldn't know.
08:56I might agree with that,
08:57but I think if you just said,
08:59do you know who Shohei Ohtani is?
09:00He has his Dodgers uniform
09:01and you show the same picture,
09:04people are going to know him.
09:05Now, I would say
09:05at the ESPYs,
09:06he's probably the only guy
09:07in the audience
09:08that didn't know.
09:09At the ESPYs.
09:10That's probably true.
09:11Right?
09:12Yeah.
09:13But was that a huge shocker?
09:16I don't think.
09:17So, I lost my zeal
09:19for the Summer League
09:20once they shut down
09:21A.J.
09:22DeBansa.
09:23And let me just give you
09:24the starting lineup
09:25for the Wizards last night
09:27because it's an irrelevant game.
09:28They were 2-0.
09:29You know,
09:30maybe you could chase
09:31the Summer League championship.
09:32They clearly aren't.
09:34Your starting lineup
09:35was Norris,
09:36Agbac Coco,
09:38Qadari Richmond,
09:39Chris Livingston,
09:40Seth Trimble,
09:40Reese Beekman.
09:41I saw Trimble
09:43balled out.
09:44Yeah, he finished
09:45with 24 points.
09:46I mean, look,
09:46if you're a huge fan
09:47of the Capital City Go-Go,
09:49then you're going to be
09:50all about that
09:51starting lineup.
09:52But most people
09:53are not big G League fans.
09:55They want to see
09:56the superstars.
09:57And when news came out
09:58that A.J. DeBansa,
10:00Trey Johnson,
10:00and now Will Riley
10:02getting the kid gloves
10:03treatment too
10:04are shut down,
10:05I would guess
10:0699% of the Wizards
10:07fan base
10:07is not going to be
10:09following the Summer League
10:10experts of those guys
10:12you just mentioned.
10:12Wasn't it like a 10-30 tip?
10:14Because I was looking for it.
10:15Yeah, it was on very late.
10:16It was a late start.
10:17I saw that
10:17Akpara missed the game too.
10:19Was that due to injury?
10:21Was there a reason
10:22given for that?
10:23Maybe they're shutting him down.
10:24He's actually looked pretty good.
10:26He's a second-round pick.
10:27He should be playing
10:28in every Summer League game
10:29unless he has an injury.
10:31I don't know.
10:32Maybe they're just trying
10:34not to get him injured.
10:35I don't know.
10:35Maybe.
10:36Shutting him down.
10:40I think I know
10:40the answer to this,
10:41but I'm going to
10:42bring it up anyway.
10:43Do you care that
10:44Terry McLaurin
10:47was kind of disrespected
10:48in the Best Wide Receivers list
10:50in ESPN's Top 10 list?
10:51I mean, it's hard.
10:52He came off a bad year.
10:53He didn't even get,
10:54like,
10:55I don't even think
10:56he was listed
10:56in Honorable Mention.
10:57I think he was in
10:58the Others Receiving Votes category.
11:00Well, so what is it?
11:01Give me the deal.
11:02What was it?
11:03The ESPN Top 10 list.
11:05All right.
11:05I mean,
11:06he had a terrible year.
11:08It ended up being
11:09a terrible year
11:10with injury and everything,
11:11the holdout and everything.
11:12And those lists,
11:13you know,
11:13because we went through
11:14the quarterback one,
11:15obviously because of
11:16Jaden Daniels a few days ago,
11:18it's about where they stand
11:20like right now.
11:21It's not like
11:21a career achievement list.
11:23So the fact that,
11:24you know,
11:25he was injured
11:25coming into training camp,
11:27had a down year.
11:28Jaden had a down year.
11:29I guess it makes sense
11:30he is where he is,
11:31but I think he's going to
11:32get bumped up that list
11:34with his role
11:35in the offense this year.
11:36Give him some fuel
11:37to the fire.
11:37Yep.
11:38Speaking of right now,
11:39the British Open
11:39is underway.
11:43Seven leaders right now
11:45at three under.
11:46Thomas Detry,
11:47Robert McIntyre,
11:49Sanjay Im,
11:50Daniel Brown,
11:51Nick Taylor,
11:51Alex Smalley,
11:52and Scotty Scheffler
11:53at three under.
11:55Scotty getting off
11:55to a good start.
11:56I saw that Bryson DeChambeau
11:58was at two under.
11:59My guy David Duvall
12:00was at even.
12:01It's only three shots
12:03off the lead.
12:04We'll be monitoring that.
12:05Valdez,
12:05I may offend you
12:06by telling you
12:07that I'm not sure
12:09exactly where
12:10Royal Birkdale
12:11is located,
12:11but I'm going to guess.
12:13Can I throw a dart
12:14at the board
12:15in the UK?
12:17I'm going to guess
12:17that Royal Birkdale
12:18is in
12:21Birkdale.
12:22Somewhere like northern.
12:24I'm going to go
12:24northern England.
12:25Yeah, you're right.
12:26I think it's northwest
12:27England.
12:28Okay, so I'm relatively
12:29close.
12:30Yes.
12:30Okay, good.
12:31I think they're suggesting.
12:33I don't know.
12:33I didn't watch a lot.
12:34I watched a lot of the stuff
12:34where there's guys
12:35just hitting balls
12:36on the range,
12:37whatever,
12:37leading up to it.
12:38What do you need to know?
12:38I know it all.
12:39Well, I saw that
12:40they were suggesting
12:42when they were predicting
12:43total winning score
12:46that some thought
12:47it could approach
12:4720 under.
12:48They thought the guys
12:48were really going to
12:49go low this week.
12:50Yeah, I think they're
12:51going to scorch the course
12:53because the greens are soft
12:54and then the fairways
12:55are running out
12:56so you could really
12:57hit a 5-iron 280 yards.
12:59Right.
13:00So you don't have to
13:01take out driver.
13:02You can be accurate.
13:03Remember, that's what
13:03Tiger did in one year.
13:04I don't remember
13:05what course it was.
13:06But he didn't hit
13:07driver all week.
13:09It might have been
13:10Carnoustie.
13:10Stay out of the bunkers.
13:12So it's...
13:13And then the greens
13:13are pretty soft
13:15and receptive.
13:16Right.
13:16So the ball's not
13:17bouncing when you land it.
13:18It's going to be
13:19a pitch and putt.
13:21Right.
13:21I don't mind.
13:22I don't mind birdie.
13:23And plus the rough
13:24is down too.
13:26There's barely any rough.
13:27Right.
13:28It's so weird
13:29that it's always
13:30so unattractive
13:31that they never have
13:32silly lush green grass.
13:34Right?
13:34It's always brown
13:35and earthy.
13:36It's not aesthetically pleasing.
13:37It always looks terrible
13:38on TV in my opinion.
13:40I know this is offending
13:41the real golf nerds.
13:42It's the birthplace of golf.
13:44Blah, blah, blah.
13:44Yeah, whatever.
13:45I like a nice
13:46Americanized green.
13:47I like it nice and lush.
13:49Yeah.
13:49Augusta, they'll paint it green.
13:51They don't care.
13:51I like the green to pop.
13:53Yeah, me too.
13:54Just pop off the screen.
13:56I'm with you, Cakes.
13:57You know how we always
13:57talk about there not
13:59being any squirrels
13:59at the Masters?
14:00Are there any squirrels
14:01at the Open Championship?
14:02That's a great question.
14:04Scotty just made a bomb.
14:05Does that put him
14:05at four under?
14:06Oh, yeah.
14:07Now he's now leading
14:09the British Open.
14:10That's my guy.
14:11I got him with
14:12the second pick yesterday.
14:13That looked like
14:14a 40-footer.
14:16All right, so there you go.
14:17No longer a seven-way
14:19tie for the lead, JP.
14:20Gotcha.
14:23Happening as we were going.
14:24Now, when are you going
14:25to make your pilgrimage
14:25over to the Open
14:27at some point?
14:28I feel like you have to go
14:29and watch it in person.
14:31A British Open?
14:32Watch it?
14:32If I'm flying over there,
14:34I'm playing.
14:35Well, for sure you're playing.
14:36Yeah, but would you...
14:38Would I watch the British Open?
14:42Would you want to go?
14:45Yes, I'd want to go,
14:46but it's not something
14:47I'd seek out.
14:49Does that make sense?
14:50Yeah.
14:51If someone gave you
14:51an opportunity, you'd go,
14:52but it's not something
14:53you're dying to do.
14:54I'm not plunking down the money,
14:56getting the tickets,
14:57flying over there.
14:58You could go with your dad,
14:59and your dad could introduce
15:00the Brits to his...
15:01Was it a banana
15:03and mayonnaise sandwich?
15:04Maybe that takes off.
15:05Banana and mayo, yeah.
15:06Banana and mayo.
15:07No, if I had a bucket list
15:09of sporting events,
15:12Wimbledon's ahead of it.
15:13I want to go to Wimbledon,
15:15and I actually would like
15:16to go to the French Open, too.
15:18I think those might
15:19actually be ahead of...
15:22Yeah, for sure.
15:23They'd be ahead
15:23of the British Open.
15:24Hey, next week,
15:25you can go to the
15:25Mubadala City Open
15:26right here in D.C.
15:27I think that's next week, right?
15:29You know what?
15:29I'm going to be in town.
15:30I don't think I have a lot
15:31going on next week.
15:32I definitely got to go.
15:33You might want to reach out.
15:35Get some tickets.
15:36Have they announced
15:38Serena yet, officially?
15:39Because I know he's
15:40kind of hinting at it
15:41that they were negotiating.
15:41I have to go to the website
15:42to check that.
15:43That, I don't know.
15:44I don't know that
15:45off the top of my head.
