00:09This year, more than 40 sites have received the 2026 Green Flag Awards after detailed national assessments.
00:16The awards recognise well-managed parks, cemeteries and open spaces, with judges considering maintenance, biodiversity, safety and community involvement during

00:27North Tyneside has received eight awards, including Whitley Bay Cemetery for the first time, while Newcastle has retained four green
00:34flags.
00:34Those Newcastle sites include Jesmond Dean, Exhibition Park, Leeses Park and Walker Park, with the council thanking everyone involved in
00:42their care.
00:44Northumberland has also secured recognition across its green spaces, while awards have been given in Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and
00:52Durham.
00:53Councils say the awards reflect the work of staff, volunteers and community groups who help maintain these spaces throughout the
