Rachaad White? Terry McLaurin? Ben Sinnott? Which Washington pass catcher will step up this season in the new offense?
Transcript
00:00I went back and looked at some stats, and there was a year when myself and Larry Sinners
00:05had 100 receptions together for right at 800 and something yards.
00:11You don't always have to throw it to a receiver.
00:14And if you double Terry all the time, a tight end is going to be single,
00:17or other people are going to be single, and guess what?
00:19That running back is coming out the backfield against a linebacker.
00:23That safety won't be there to help him.
00:24So, there were times when myself and Steven Davis had over 60 receptions.
00:31Your running backs and your tight ends can be as vital as anything.
00:35It's not just about the second receiver, because I keep bringing up Seattle,
00:40and you know the stats with that.
00:43Jackson Smith and Jigba had about 1,800 yards.
00:46The next person was a tight end.
00:48It wasn't a second receiver.
00:50They won the damn Super Bowl.
00:51Even Kenneth Walker had about 307 yards out the backfield,
00:56and he wasn't even a good basket out the backfield.
00:59It was Charbonnet, who had a lot of yards as well.
01:02So, it's the overall offense, not just the receiver position.
01:06I couldn't agree with you more.
01:08I think it's about positional productivity.
01:10Yeah.
01:11Right?
01:11And I think if you, specific to the air game,
01:14like, if you can get north of 800 yards from your tight ends,
01:22that's good production.
01:24Yeah.
01:25Like, if you can get north, maybe it's 750, 800 again with the receivers.
01:29I do think seeing him during minicamp was pretty,
01:34I don't want to say eye-opening,
01:36because it's a dude that has real accomplishments in the NFL.
01:40But I don't know that people are thinking about Rashad White in the correct vein
01:45and what he could bring to this offense.
01:48Rashad White has two seasons with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage.
01:54Like, who was the dude that emerged in Tampa as just a killer running back,
01:57the rookie from last year?
01:58Bucky Irving.
01:59Bucky Irving.
02:00Right.
02:00Bucky kind of took Rashad's job.
02:02That's the way the NFL goes.
02:06Even with the emergence of Bucky Irving last year,
02:08do you know what Rashad White finished with from scrimmage?
02:11Probably about 8,900.
02:137,90.
02:15Like, if you add that,
02:16and I do think Bill could be a killer in outside zone.
02:19Like, when they did run it with him,
02:21go back and look at the Giants tape from FedEx,
02:23or from Northwest, the home game against the Giants.
02:26Bill can be a one-cut-and-go guy.
02:30But I think White can have a big impact.
02:33In four seasons in the NFL,
02:36he's gone 50 catches for 290 as a rookie,
02:4064 for 550 in his second season,
02:4351 for 393 in his third year.
02:46And last year, in a down year where another dude emerged,
02:49he had 40 catches for 218 yards.
02:52Like, it's not a ton of YPC there,
02:55but still, like, he is highly effective
02:59catching the ball out of the backfield.
03:00And I think that's going to be an added layer of productivity.
03:05Let's go to Omar in Woodbridge.
03:08Omar, who's going to break out?
03:11Hey, guys.
03:11Thanks for taking my call.
03:13Love the show.
03:14For me, a guy that I think is flying a little bit under the radar
03:16is De'Ami Brown.
03:19Now, thinking back,
03:20I think he was one of the first few free agent signings
03:23that we had when free agency opened up.
03:25And I'm thinking back to that 2024 season.
03:27It felt like, you know,
03:28having Jaden Daniels helped elevate his play.
03:30And I think they were developing, like, a rapport.
03:33Like, you think back to that Lions game, all that.
03:38And then, you know, obviously he left for Jacksonville.
03:40But he was one of the first, you know,
03:41guys that they brought back.
03:44I've got a feeling that they're just kind of blue in smoke right now
03:47about getting an additional wide receiver.
03:49But I think there's a quiet confidence in the building
03:53that De'Ami and Jaden can do together.
03:56And I don't think De'Ami's had more than, like, what,
03:58maybe 400 or 500 yards in any given season.
04:00I think from a breakout perspective,
04:02I think if all goes to plan,
04:04I think he could truly step up and be that candidate.
04:08I'd like to call Omar.
04:09I almost want to change the term because, like, breakout is so cliche.
04:14Where do you – where could you see unexpected productivity?
04:18Because to his point about De'Ami, in now five regular seasons,
04:23so this is a big sample, he's never gone for more than 308 yards.
04:28And that was in 24 playing with Jaden.
04:31So, like, what is unexpected productivity from De'Ami?
04:35500 yards receiving?
04:37That would be.
04:38Right?
04:38Yeah.
04:39And he is a vertical threat, and if you are running more play action
04:42and some of it succeeds, maybe that allows more deep shots to De'Ami.
04:47Right?
04:48Like, in 24 playing with Jaden, he had 30 catches, 308 yards,
04:53and one touchdown.
04:53Then the playoff run was just banana land.
04:56Yep.
04:56And so, if De'Ami can be that guy, especially the guy we saw in the playoffs –
05:00How many games he played in the playoffs?
05:02Three?
05:02Yeah.
05:03Let's just take that production in the playoffs, multiply it by five,
05:08basically 15 games for a football season.
05:11What that amounts to?
05:12In the three playoff games, he had 14 catches for 230 yards on the touchdown.
05:16So, 70 receptions for 1,000 yards?
05:21I mean, if you're going – multiply it by five.
05:23That's what I'm saying.
05:24Like, you can – and let's just take – let's take off 20% of it.
05:29Let's say –
05:29If he had 57 receptions for 800 yards, would you not be happy?
05:33If you multiply it by three, okay?
05:36Yeah.
05:36That was a three-run – a three-game run that he was on fire.
05:40And Jaden saw – Jaden – you know, occasionally, shooters get hot.
05:44Like, people get hot.
05:45Deami was hot.
05:46Yeah.
05:47But let's try to extrapolate that playoff run 3X, okay?
05:52Okay.
05:52That would then be 45 catches about – now, we're counting on me to do math –
05:58about 650 yards, four touchdowns.
06:01Would you not be happy with that?
06:02Thrilled.
06:03Okay.
06:04Thrilled.
06:05Yeah.
06:06And that's not that –
06:07And I think that's what you have to look at.
06:10The problem is –
06:12Now, the regular season numbers don't add up to that.
06:14I understand what you're saying.
06:15But, like, he has started to get a rhythm in the toughest situations
06:20against the better defenses.
06:21He was doing that.
06:23Most people that call in, they are comparing it to what somebody's number one does.
06:31Not what the number two does.
06:32Not what the number three does.
06:34They know the numbers that somebody does.
06:35Well, we don't have nobody like that.
06:37You don't need him to have 1,000.
06:39You need to have about 5 to 650.
06:41And if he happens to go higher, cool.
06:44But if he brings 650 yards, what Terry doing what he's accustomed to doing,
06:49all of a sudden –
06:49Rashad White throwing 600 up there.
06:51Yeah, you start seeing different – how people got to defend you differently.
06:56So, everybody can't get 1,000 yards.
06:59But if you've got guys dropping in 300, 400, 500 in multiple positions,
07:04all of a sudden the defense trying to prepare for you has problems.
07:07People want to point to the Bengals, the Cowboys, the Rams.
07:12Here's a comp, okay?
07:14Washington doesn't have their defense.
07:15I certainly wish they did.
07:17The Texans.
07:19Texans are a good team.
07:20They're a playoff team.
07:21They've won a playoff game despite –
07:23I mean, C.J. Stroud had one of the worst playoff performances we've ever seen.
07:28Like, the fact that the Patriots got to the Super Bowl
07:31with C.J. Stroud through five picks,
07:33and then they faced off against Jarrett Stidham.
07:35God bless you.
07:36You got there.
07:37Credit to you.
07:37But goodness gracious.
07:39Let's look at the Texans, okay?
07:41Just as a comp.
07:42And everybody's freaked out about wide receiver, too.
07:45Nico Collins is a baller.
07:47Nico Collins went for 1,100 yards, six touchdowns on 71 catches.
07:50Their second leading receiver was Dalton Schultz.
07:5482 catches for 770 yards.
07:57Okay.
07:58Their third leading receiver was a receiver, Jaden Higgins.
08:01I believe he was a rookie last year, right?
08:04Higgins went 41 for 525.
08:07So your second leading receiver, not pass catcher, but receiver,
08:11had 41 for 525.
08:13Then you got another wideout, Xavier Hutchinson, 35 for 430.
08:18That's a playoff team.
08:19That's a team that won 12 games.
08:21Yeah.
08:22Like, the hunt for Red October, you got to have Pickens and Lamb
08:27or Chase and Higgins.
08:29Like, that is not customary.
08:31It's about production all over the offense.
08:34I am with it.
08:35Let's go to John in Herndon.
08:37What's up, John?
08:39Hey, guys.
08:40What's up, man?
08:40Thanks for taking the call.
08:42For me, the breakout is I still have hopes for Luke,
08:46that, you know, it's an important year for him.
08:48He can make a break.
08:50But, you know, he's shown flashes.
08:52And then as an alternative, I think, Bill, you know,
08:56I agree that what they've done in the running back room should help him
09:00because he is a guy that spins on a dime and can break out.
09:04Anyway.
09:04I appreciate the call, dude.
09:06There's also no wrong answers.
09:08Actually, we're going to test that theory.
09:09Jeff has one.
09:12Well, my breakout player is going to be Jaden Daniels.
09:17The reason why I say that, he's coming off of a season where he was injured.
09:21He's coming into a new offense that he will learn.
09:24A lot of people keep saying, oh, he never played in a pro-style offense.
09:28He's not going to be able to adjust playing on the center.
09:31One thing I noticed in his first year,
09:33because we didn't get a big sample size last year,
09:35the boy can adapt pretty well.
09:38So I think he's going to shut all the critics up.
09:42He's going to all the list.
09:43He's not paying attention to that.
09:45He's going to come out and have a great season.
09:47And here comes the Ashburn syndrome.
09:53If he come out clicking,
09:54we could make it back to where we were in 2024 or further.
10:00If you go further, you go into the Super Bowl.
10:02There's no law or local ordinance that says they can't.
10:07We can have all these debates and lists and all the stuff.
10:13If he is as good and as healthy as he was in 2024,
10:17when he played through that rib injury, keep that in mind,
10:21then hell yeah, they're a playoff team.
10:23He was excellent.
10:25And there's like, people have kind of forgotten that.
10:29I don't think locally we have,
10:30but I think people are now a little scared off by the injuries.
10:33But I don't think that's a crazy take at all, Jeff.
10:37Like, you know why the expectations for the Bills are so high?
10:41Because of Josh Allen.
10:44Like, some teams, that's it.
10:46You know, the Ravens had a coaching change.
10:49They have a first-time ever head coach.
10:50They're still considered a Super Bowl team because of Lamar.
10:53Yeah.
10:54Like, when you have a quarterback that's in that conversation,
10:56it changes everything.
10:58I still believe we in this town worry about the injuries more than nationally
11:07because they know how good he can be.
11:09Let's go to Manny in Southeast.
11:11Manny, how you doing, bud?
11:13What's up, fellas?
11:14How y'all doing?
11:15We good, brother.
11:15Hey, look, I was on there earlier, but I got pulled over,
11:19so I had to hang up.
11:19Stay off of Central Avenue because it's hot.
11:22Okay.
11:23What did you do to get pulled over, Manny?
11:26Nothing.
11:27It's Central Avenue, bro.
11:28Merlin.
11:29I was in Merlin.
11:30I was D.P. tagged in Merlin.
11:31I shouldn't have been in Merlin, and I knew better.
11:33So, I'm sorry.
11:35You know what I mean?
11:36But, no.
11:37But, no.
11:39I think it's going to be Terry.
11:41I got to piggyback on Jeff.
11:43Jeff J.D. 5, yeah, he definitely going to be one
11:46because Terry's going to show up.
11:47Now, when Terry's got something to prove to everybody,
11:50you know what I mean?
11:51People, we're not forgetting that Terry is a dog.
11:54And if everybody say we got all these weapons,
11:58because if you think about the coaches,
12:02Blau Ben-Nunder, Ben Johnson, Mack, and all them,
12:09Zach Ertz, LaPorta, and Lovelace and Komet,
12:12they were all monsters in them offenses.
12:14So, if Chig, and I think myself particularly,
12:17Chig is better than all of them.
12:18He never had an offer.
12:19He never had a real quarterback,
12:21and he got the numbers he got.
12:22But, if they, if Rashad White and Chig doing what we say
12:28or what we think we're going to do,
12:29Terry's going to kill him.
12:30Because one-on-one, can't nobody check him.
12:32And he don't drop the ball, Mr. All-Hands, everything.
12:35You hear me?
12:35So, I'm going to say Terry, man,
12:37he got something to prove to y'all.
12:38He got something to prove to y'all.
12:39He stood out.
12:40He heard y'all talking bad about him,
12:42and he been a red-skinned commander football teamer,
12:46and been through all that BS,
12:47and, man, everybody kept carrying him.
12:49So, yeah, he's going to show off this shit.
12:51Watch.
12:51I'm telling y'all.
12:52All right, man.
12:53Appreciate you, Manny.
12:54Get out of Maryland, dude.
12:55Apparently, that's bad luck.
12:55No, I'm in South East right now.
12:57I'm on H-D.
12:58I ain't playing with him.
12:59I love my girl, Manny.
13:00Y'all be good.
13:01Manny is straight up, D.C.
13:03I love Manny.
13:04I love Manny.
13:05Y'all curing it.
13:06That is my dog.
13:07The fact that Manny is off the B.A. stuff
13:11is very telling on the B.A. stuff.
13:14Jeff, do D.C. drivers get pulled over on Central Avenue?
13:17Is that a thing?
13:18Everybody get pulled over on Central Avenue.
13:21It doesn't matter what tags you have.
13:22Can I ask you a question?
13:23Yes.
13:24Central Ave is what, if I'm coming from here,
13:26it takes me out to Northwest, right?
13:28Yes.
13:28Like, it's just East Capitol turns into Central Ave.
13:30And you'll make the left, yeah.
13:32This is a real question.
13:33I'm not doing a bit.
13:35I've driven there plenty of times.
13:36Is that like a white privilege thing?
13:37They're like, oh, the white dude's driving through here?
13:39Let him go.
13:39Yeah, might be.
13:40Nah, it ain't a white privilege.
13:41I've seen white people, Hispanic people, black people,
13:44everybody pulled over on Central Ave.
13:45All right, let's take one more on this.
13:47T is in Orlando.
13:48What's up, T?
13:48You're lucky, JP.
13:50Hey, what's going on?
13:51I think your filters leaked out my information,
13:55but J.D. 5 was my breakout.
13:57J.D. 5 breaks out, everybody breaks out,
13:59and that's the way it's got to be.
14:00I like it, man.
14:01Good call, dude.
14:03Thanks, T.
14:03Thanks for listening down in Florida, dude.
14:04Appreciate you.
