The cherry blossom is synonymous with Japan and now, thanks to Nissan Formula E Team, with truly competitive single-seater racing. The vibrant pink buds of the Sakura have graduated from its racecar's livery to the walls, uniforms and water bottles found throughout its team headquarters, ready for the sport's next moment of renewal: the all-new GEN4 car.

Nissan's GEN4 development process is in full swing at its Viry-Châtillon HQ in Paris' southern suburbs, with a dedicated team of engineers fine tuning the car to maximise the potential of the FIA's latest regulations in its pursuit of more success in Season 13. British driver Oliver Rowland is the reigning Formula E world champion after winning Season 11 with two races to spare and he remains in contention for Season 12 honours.

00:03It's an enormous amount of power that feels like you're literally leaving your
00:08physical body behind and and pushing forward it's it's quite unbelievable to
00:13drive. The sport has evolved impressively in 12 years. It started from being a
00:20startup, an experiment, to one of the seven FIA World Championships.
00:27Almost a different category to what it was at the beginning you know the power
00:31output, the quality of drivers teams, the technology involved in the race cars as
00:37well everything has just gone through the roof. The jump of performance between
00:42Gen3 and Gen4 is really massive and with Gen4 we feel like we are landing on
00:47something which is let's say maybe not optimum still but very close. The
00:53traction coming from the full-time all-wheel drive and also for the higher
00:57torque from the electrical e-motor. This gives you a very high acceleration that's
01:04significantly different from the other categories so that will give you more
01:08excitement in the race. Gen4 is another animal as we say the level of performance
01:15will be much higher. From the technological standpoint I think what is really
01:21interesting is to have an all-wheel drive car, permanently all-wheel drive. I think
01:25people will be surprised how we will beat a lot of records in terms of
01:29performance.
01:32It's absolutely a cycle and what is really important to understand is that the
01:36technology is the same. So the way the the inverter, the gearbox and the motor of
01:42the electric powered train work is exactly the same technology as road cars. There is a
01:47huge opportunity with Gen4 where cars become all-wheel drive to transfer the
01:53strong expertise of Nissan on all-wheel drive and and of course all these then
01:57will go back to our core business. We're able to supply Nissan with the
02:02software relevant software that can then be placed into the production line and make
02:08Nissan cars of tomorrow more efficient and more reliable. With Gen4 will be a new
02:14start and we will have to be ready for that.
