00:00What excites you about what year two with Ben and Caleb could look like?
00:07Everything.
00:10Everything.
00:11I mean, it's and I think that's what people have missed a little bit in the discussion that we had,
00:16and especially some of the clips that have gotten pulled out.
00:18I think people have fixated on the idea that I've said he needs to be better.
00:23We say seven different times during that show.
00:26I think he will be better.
00:28And I think he can be better.
00:30We've seen quarterbacks in the league, and this is something else that we talked about that I think is really
00:34important.
00:36Too often, we've talked about quarterback improvement in massive leaps and massive chunks,
00:41and we've looked at guys like Josh Allen who've gotten significantly better and treated those as outlier events because they
00:48are.
00:48They don't happen very often.
00:50We don't really see quarterbacks take massive, massive leaps if they're not at least pretty good right away.
00:56But what we do see a lot of is incremental improvements at the position from year two to year three,
01:03year three to year four.
01:04The two guys that we really talked about on the show were, in my opinion, Jared Goff and Jordan Love
01:09are really good examples of this.
01:11Where Jordan Love was pretty inaccurate his first year as a quarterback, and he got much better at that.
01:15Jared Goff, Jared Goff, I think there's a revisionist history with this where we all kind of always thought that
01:21Jared Goff was pretty good.
01:22People were treating Jared Goff, that second first-round pick in the Rams trade, as the Lions having to throw
01:28in another one to take on Jared Goff's contract.
01:31Jared Goff is a significantly better quarterback now than he was in 2021 when he got traded to the Lions.
01:37A huge portion of that is him working with Ben Johnson over multiple years.
01:42And Jared said that to me.
01:44His understanding of the offense, the intention behind the offense, what we're trying to accomplish, why he's calling this play
01:50in this moment,
01:51that's something that built up over time, over hundreds of reps, over hundreds of hours and minutes of conversation with
01:59Ben and what he wants out of the offense.
02:01This is an incredibly fertile situation for a young quarterback, what Caleb Williams is in right now.
02:08He is one of, in my opinion, a top three play caller in the NFL and a truly difference-making
02:12special guy.
02:13He has an incredible collection of young skill position players and an offensive line that, even if there are more
02:18questions now than maybe there were last year, is a very good group.
02:22Like, I think that there really is no limit to how good this group can be.
02:27It's just a matter of the young guys improving enough for them to get there.
