00:04Hi, I'm Liberty from NME. I'm here at Mad Cool 2026 with Clifford. How are you guys doing?
00:09Amazing. What's it like to be here in Madrid? Really hot. Really, really fun, but really hot.
00:16Yeah, I mean, it's a little bit cloudy today. I feel like you can perform without absolutely
00:20just melting on stage. Anyone who you're excited to see on the bill? Interpol. Interpol, 21 pilots,
00:27Halsey's playing right now. Sort of missing her, but that would have been sick. Pixies? Pixies,
00:33yeah. Pixies are going to be awesome, aren't they? So many. So it's been a massive summer for you
00:38already and it still keeps on going. I feel like you've just got here from playing at Hyde Park with
00:42Mumford & Sons. What was it like for you to do that? It was a crazy, a crazy experience. I
00:47mean,
00:47it was such a lovely gig for us, such a lovely crowd, and then also so amazing to watch Mumford
00:54& Sons.
00:54They brought out Hosier, which we were freaking out about, and Shania Twain, which we were walking
01:01to the tube and we could hear it on the TV with all of our equipment walking home and I
01:07was so,
01:08we were all so upset. But it was an amazing gig. Yeah, it must have been surreal because that lineup
01:14was stacked. Crazy. What was it like to see? I guess you probably saw quite a few of those guys
01:19performing as well. Did you take any tips from them? We saw the war on drugs. They were incredible.
01:23Yeah, it was just amazing. They were just an amazing band. I mean, everyone was amazing.
01:29And Divorce, not Divorce as well, they were incredible. Yeah, Divorce are one of our favorite
01:33bands and they're so much fun and such kind people as well. I suppose tips-wise, like the war on
01:39drugs
01:39was so nice. We were backstage at Catering and they came up to us and we're like, are you guys
01:44in a
01:44band? And it was so nice to see a band that we look up to so much, kind of be
01:47so kind to everyone
01:48and to smaller bands like us and then just play an incredible show. So be sound, I suppose.
01:56I feel like there's so many amazing shows we can pick from, but you also opened for Florence
02:02and the Machine in Milan. She headlined here last night. It was an incredible set. Are you a fan of
02:07her obsessed? Obsessed. Yeah, I love her. We were talking about it before where it was like,
02:13I think it's a mutual experience where like your dad calls you in after like two IPAs and he's like,
02:19let's watch Florence the Machine play Glastonbury. And that's what I've done many times in my life.
02:25So to actually open for her was incredible.
02:27We missed her though. We had to fly out because we were playing Hyde Park the next day, unfortunately.
02:33I mean, it's a good excuse. It's a good reason to miss it, but we're a bit devastated.
02:39So let's talk about music. So your last EP was early 2025. We saw a single at the end of
02:45the year
02:46as well. Do you have anything coming up? We're working on a new project right now. After this
02:51little run, we're going to be in the studio recording some new music, which hopefully we'll be out soon.
02:57I'm going to pick your brain here. We've seen the EPs. Is it maybe time for a full album?
03:03Well, maybe. Maybe it's time. Maybe it's time.
03:10What's your mindset going into writing and recording now?
03:13So exciting because we've spent so many months writing. We had such a massive year last year
03:21and basically this year we just locked ourselves in a small room in Blackpool and we just wrote
03:26nine to five every day. Blackpool and Cork. Every time you say that it's like,
03:30did you go to Blackpool Ballroom in England? Blackpool and Cork is a very different thing
03:35to what Blackpool is in England. So yeah, we just had about four months in there writing away.
03:42So we're just really excited to go in the studio now and get this done and get this out to
03:46the world.
03:46Yeah, we've written so many songs. We've put a lot of work into our sound as well.
03:49I think we really kind of like refined our sound in this album. So hopefully it's good.
03:55It is good.
03:56Yeah, it is.
03:56Yeah, come on.
03:57Yeah.
03:57Let's think about it.
03:59So the last single we saw you take on some quite heavy themes and really like
04:03lay yourself out there with the lyrics. Can we see more of that going forward?
04:07Yeah, I think like I always do that lyrically. I think like writing lyrics to me is really fun
04:14because it's just like I think it's the only time I actually get to understand myself is when you're
04:19writing. You kind of can see yourself out on the page after a while, which is so nice then when
04:22you're playing a gig because you see people singing it back and I'm meaning so much to them. You can
04:26kind
04:26of you just realize how close we all are as people and how much your experiences or someone else's
04:32experiences. So yeah, this album deals with lots of lots of things. Good and bad and sad and all
04:40all of the above. And I think that's why I love it so much. It's all about that contrast of
04:45life
04:45that we keep living through.
04:47It must be a little bit daunting when you're recording it and you're writing by yourself
04:51and then you see a crowd like Hyde Park and you're playing it to them. What's it
04:56like to see the response from fans? It's wild. I still don't get over it. Like we played Montreux
05:02yesterday or two days ago and there was like a girl in the front of the gig and like she
05:09sang
05:09every lyric her and her friend. I was just thinking about like how someone completely other side in
05:15Switzerland is singing lyrics about like Cork City and how that's related to my sadness and like how
05:23that means so much to her and all of these gigs like the one in Hyde Park when you see
05:28people singing
05:28it. Now there was three lads from Cork at Hyde Park who just kept saying your Cork between each song
05:33which was very funny. It's just lovely to see it everywhere you go that you you can make these
05:39connections with people and it's a connection that we have with them and they have with their friends
05:43and it's it's lovely. So we've still got more yet to come like the big shows just on ending for
05:49you
05:49this summer. Also playing with Wolf Alice in Newcastle that is quite a brag for you guys.
05:57Yeah. It's a dream support slot like so we're looking forward to it. It is our dream support slot.
06:01And I saw your cover on Instagram as well what was it like for you to do a cover? It's
06:06really fun.
06:06Yeah we love their music so we've always been like playing together like and it's so funny ever since
06:11we've started as a band we've like every article has come like kind of compared us to Wolf Alice and
06:18like seen and we've been listening to them for so long and um they've been such a big inspiration
06:22to us. Yeah it's funny um like we because at the start we were comparing them so much and we
06:27all love
06:28them. I remember we were like why like we don't sound anything like them and then we went to see
06:33them in Cypress Avenue they were doing like kind of a small venues tour like to promote their new album
06:37and we all came out we were like I totally get it now I get why I like that's what
06:44we want.
06:45They're so they're such a good band. So you guys didn't even realize that? No we listened to them
06:50we did. We listened to them a lot but we we were kind of like not 100 sure why it
06:55was always the
06:55comparison um and then saw it live and we were like this is like one day we'll aspire to be
07:01this
07:01incredible um yeah they're amazing I just I think like it's so lovely to watch them play so lovely to
07:08listen to their music um their energy and yeah songwriting is just incredible so I I just can't
07:14wait. Very lucky yeah. Guys thank you so much it's been lovely to talk to you. Thank you.
