00:00Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon landed back on the IL with heavy inflammation in the left elbow.
00:06What is exactly going on in the elbow? And could the inflammation be a result of the
00:11off-season elbow surgery? Big thing here is that with the MRI, we don't know exactly what they saw
00:17on it, but inflammation can happen in basically any soft tissue. It's possible that there was
00:22inflammation around his UCL, even if the UCL itself is intact. Also possible that he had it
00:28in the flexor pronator origin. So that tendon that originates off the inside part of the elbow,
00:33that's really important with that throwing mechanism and even possibly a little bit of the
00:37joint space itself. He has this history of surgery. He had Tommy Johns in 2019. Then he had this surgery
00:43to try to remove some of those loose bodies and bone spur to be shaved down. I don't think that's
00:48necessarily causing the inflammation. I think it's probably just the fact that his biomechanics have
00:54maybe shifted a little bit over time. And now he's seen that constant tension on the area causing
00:59maybe a little inflammatory response. Any worries that this inflammation could pop up again late in
01:05the post-season if they do go on a run? This is where his rehab team really needs to kind
01:10of stay
01:10strong with him and continue to work on those biomechanics, making sure that he's not altering
01:15his method of pitching or anything like that. Or maybe we need to alter it in a way that is
01:20a little
01:20more tolerable for him. I think the PRP in the long run will be really helpful as well. We're
01:25just trying to force this remodeling cascade to occur with these types of interventions. And so
01:30while it's possible, the hope is it's not likely.
