00:00How do you handle that growth moving forward?
00:03In a very disciplined way. I think we've been growing for so long.
00:07You have to make sure that the growth that we have to come, and we are still growing,
00:12both from a residence and a commercial side, that we do it in a very disciplined, smart way
00:18that helps the current residents of Frisco.
00:21One thing I found very interesting about your platform was shifting new development to reinvestment.
00:28What does that look like?
00:30You know, Frisco's grown so fast, but there are parts of Frisco that are 20, 25, 30 years old
00:39right next to places that are brand new or within the last five years.
00:42And so city leadership, and there's already a plan for this in place,
00:48will definitely be spending time and focus on making sure we're paying attention
00:53to some of the areas of Frisco that are a little bit older,
00:56that were built at a different time in Frisco,
00:59and making sure we're giving them the attention they need.
01:02When you look at something like the Star, you have the Star,
01:06then you have Toyota Stadium, you have FC Dallas playing there, of course.
01:10You have the Soccer Hall of Fame.
01:13Now you have Universal Kids Resorts.
01:15Is it time really to focus more on the downtown?
01:20Yes, I think you can do both.
01:22Downtown focus is certainly a passion of mine.
01:25It's a desire, frankly, of many in the city.
01:28It's something that during my time I'm definitely going to make a focus of,
01:32just because it's unique.
01:34You mentioned all these big projects and big things that are great for the city of Frisco.
01:39Downtown and the entire what we call the rail district is something that will definitely be a focus in the
01:44coming years.
01:45What do you think is the reason that Frisco was able to grow so quickly?
01:50A few things.
01:51We have an educated community.
01:54We have great schools in Frisco.
01:55And we're also a very safe community.
01:59And you combine those two things, over time it creates an environment that people notice
02:05and that people want to move to.
02:07And I think we've seen that for years, and we're experiencing that even to this day.
02:12Overall, the big vision.
02:14Let's look at your time in office, your big vision.
02:18Goodness.
02:19You know, we've had so much success and so much growth.
02:23I really want to make sure we, as a city, stay focused on what we're doing to attract good families
02:33to the city of Frisco and good businesses.
02:36And so if we're successful at that, then I would consider my role and my job a success.
02:40You know, you're surrounded by large cities.
02:43You've got Plano, of course, the city of Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington.
02:47What is it like competing?
02:49And how do you get that edge to get the businesses to come to Frisco?
02:54It's like I mentioned, you know, we have certain advantages that we have to make sure we keep.
03:01To your point, it's a very competitive environment out there amongst cities right now.
03:05And so as long as we focus on keeping the city of Frisco safe, keeping growth managed, disciplined,
03:12keeping our infrastructure up to speed, keeping our schools in Frisco strong,
03:19I think we will continue to attract good businesses to the city.
03:25Biggest challenges moving ahead?
03:27Competition.
03:28I think other cities and states are catching up to Texas as a whole, the city of Frisco.
03:34And so we have to make sure we stay ahead of the curve.
03:37You know, you come into this, you want to run off.
03:40There have been some ethnic divisions.
03:42There have been some very heated meetings in your city.
03:45What do you do to bring everybody together?
03:48You stay focused on how you improve the lives of the residents of the city of Frisco,
03:55on how we as city leadership can improve and help and make smart decisions that improve the lives of our
04:03residents.
04:03And, you know, I have, to your point, through either the campaign or even now, I've kind of just stayed
04:10on course.
04:11I don't engage in a lot of issues that I think are outside of what I can control.
04:16And I think it's proven to be successful, and that's certainly something I intend to do.
04:21Before we let you go, it is interesting to see how Frisco has really become an area,
04:26it's a destination for sports, for people that love sports.
04:30Yes.
04:31Yeah, I think that's been beneficial to the city.
04:33I think you talk about, like with FIFA right now and the Soccer Hall of Fame,
04:37or you think about the Star, it puts Frisco on the map and allows us a platform to grow in
04:44a lot of other ways.
04:45And so I think it's been a very smart initiative by the city for years,
04:51and I think it will continue to pay dividends as we grow.
04:55Now, we talked to you a little bit earlier.
04:57You are an attorney by trade, and you specifically said, I'm not a politician.
05:01Yes.
05:01So I'd like to know, as you're getting sworn in and you're looking out, you know, what goes through your
05:05mind?
05:07You know, when you don't come from a place of politics for a long time, you know, you are in
05:13the perspective of,
05:15how do I develop a relationship?
05:17How do I strengthen a relationship?
05:19And that's something that I think will help not just me in my role of mayor,
05:23but also in partnerships with future business, working with our regional partners,
05:29working with our other elected officials.
05:31I hope that that ends up being a benefit to the city of Frisco and something that I can bring
05:38to the table.
05:38Well, as a former director of the Economic Development Corporation, you were the president of the school board.
05:44Do you feel that prepared you?
05:46Absolutely.
05:47Those are two of the things that I think right now in 2026 are magnets to the city of Frisco.
05:53And those are two things that I have personal knowledge of recently and right now.
05:59And so I certainly hope it's prepared me.
06:02I think it has.
06:03And I think it makes the potential for Frisco very high.
06:07Thank you so much, Mayor.
06:08Thank you for your time.
