00:00:01What's happening, everybody? It's Thursday's Wake Up Barstool.
00:00:05We got a very U.S. soccer panel slash show today.
00:00:10A lot of guys in the panel love this team. Maybe one, not so much.
00:00:14Feels a little bamboozled.
00:00:16We got Greg Berhalter coming by to help us make sense of it all.
00:00:19Also, Doug McIntyre says Mariso Pochettino should be out.
00:00:22We'll get into that. We'll preview today's World Cup quarterfinals
00:00:26as France and Morocco is back. Sad day, bad day, catastrophe.
00:00:30A lot to get to. This is Wake Up Barstool, and it all starts now on FS1.
00:00:55Honestly, I feel like July is the perfect time.
00:00:57What? Stop. Stop. What? No, no, no, no cold open?
00:00:59Yeah, I mean, it's kind of just like, you know, Thursdays.
00:01:02Now we just get the T-Bob intro, and that's it.
00:01:04There's no cold open.
00:01:05Okay, okay. I'll take it under advisement and maybe bring back the cold open.
00:01:08Welcome in, guys.
00:01:10PFT remains in tiles, so we got Big T on the chair today.
00:01:13Mark Tides, here's Jerry.
00:01:14All right, let's dive right in.
00:01:16Jer.
00:01:16Yes.
00:01:17You feel bamboozled.
00:01:18Yeah, I do.
00:01:19I do. I mean, listen, I don't watch soccer.
00:01:22All year I don't watch soccer.
00:01:24I'm hearing this Pulisic talk, this Balboni talk, the guy who got the red card.
00:01:29And then I'm saying, oh, man, this team's great.
00:01:32You know what I mean?
00:01:32Flucky Balboni.
00:01:33I can't wait to watch this team play.
00:01:35And then I watch them play.
00:01:37They're just not a good team.
00:01:38It's a bad team.
00:01:39And you guys are hyping them up.
00:01:41Every time we're on the show, you're doing a dress-up.
00:01:43And these guys are like, oh, man, we're going to win.
00:01:45They're bad.
00:01:47I'm betting on these guys.
00:01:48Did you watch any game beside the Belgium game?
00:01:51No.
00:01:52Okay.
00:01:52Just that.
00:01:52No, no, so I don't mean that.
00:01:54I'll be honest.
00:01:54Hand up.
00:01:55I'll be honest.
00:01:55Yeah, I don't mean that as a criticism.
00:01:56I think that's perfect because you're representative of, like, a large swath of 40 million people that watch.
00:02:01That's what kills me about that game so much is millions of Americans tuned in hearing, like, oh, we're good
00:02:07at soccer now.
00:02:08And they tuned in and watched that game where we gave up, like, a goal that's unacceptable for eight-year
00:02:16-olds to give up.
00:02:17And we were completely – the moment was too big.
00:02:21They were just not ready to be on that stage at all.
00:02:24And they're like, oh, we suck again.
00:02:26And it's like we were favored in that game.
00:02:31Because the people whose job it is to, like, predict who wins these games said the United States is a
00:02:38little bit better than this team.
00:02:40And we were just not ready for that moment at all.
00:02:43And now people are going to be like, oh, well, just don't care about soccer again.
00:02:48And it's like that's very frustrating as someone who cares how this team performs.
00:02:54And it was just – it was the worst experience I've ever had watching them.
00:02:59Yeah, I mean, it was not that they lost, although, like, I don't want them to lose, obviously.
00:03:04But I think there's a world in which we lose to Belgium and we're like, you know what?
00:03:08The boys showed some fight.
00:03:09Yeah, 100%.
00:03:10It's soccer.
00:03:11Like, we got some shots on goal.
00:03:12They hit the post.
00:03:13They hit, you know, this, that, and the other happened.
00:03:16Kind of like what Mexico – how Mexico went out against England.
00:03:18Yeah, they went out on their shield, carried off like heroes.
00:03:21Like, they had a man advantage for a very long time and couldn't score and they just kept crossing it.
00:03:25Whatever.
00:03:25I'm sure, like, that was a little bit frustrating for the Mexican fans.
00:03:28But if you watch that game, you're like, damn, that was a great soccer game.
00:03:32It was incredible, the fight that they were showing.
00:03:35That was my frustration as well, Big T.
00:03:37It was like I thought – I wasn't delusional enough to think the United States was actually going to win
00:03:42the World Cup.
00:03:42I wasn't delusional enough to think we're just going to wipe the floor with Belgium.
00:03:45I was dumb enough to believe that our team would rise to the moment.
00:03:49And at the very least, if we lose, we would go down swinging.
00:03:52And the exact opposite happened.
00:03:53And from the moment – the moment the match started, it looked like when we had the ball, it was,
00:03:58like, overinflated.
00:03:59It looked like every time it hit our feet, it was just rocketing everywhere.
00:04:03The lights were too bright.
00:04:04And, yeah, it's a little frustrating coming away from this match and everyone's – you brought this up, Big T.
00:04:10Everyone's just like, well, what did you expect?
00:04:11Belgium is way better.
00:04:12Yeah, exactly.
00:04:13And maybe they are better.
00:04:13Maybe they are a little better.
00:04:15But, like, if that's the case, then everybody that's saying Belgium is way better, they should be very, very rich.
00:04:21They should have put a ton of money on Belgium to win this game because the United States were favored.
00:04:25And they didn't do that.
00:04:26They didn't do that.
00:04:27Spain is going to dismantle Belgium.
00:04:31Like, they're going to win 4-1.
00:04:32Spain is.
00:04:34It's going to – they're not even going to compete in that game.
00:04:36And they didn't even start one of the best wingers in the world plus another – one of the best
00:04:42midfielders of the last decade in the Premier League.
00:04:44Like, they toyed with us.
00:04:46Yeah.
00:04:47It was disgusting.
00:04:48It was very frustrating.
00:04:50I – you know, this team is supposed to be the most talented we've had.
00:04:56But watching them against Belgium was – the frustrating part for me was, like, you want to go back to
00:05:01the Dempsey, the Donovan type teams.
00:05:04The Demarcus Beasley.
00:05:05Destroy them.
00:05:05Where, like, I don't know how – I don't know where they stack up in terms of talent with this
00:05:09team.
00:05:09But, like, you know that they would have, like, started fights if they had –
00:05:12They would physically dominate this team.
00:05:13They would, like, physically, like –
00:05:14They would make them want to quit.
00:05:16Clint Dempsey – if – Tim Howard would have never given up the goal that Matt Freeze gave up.
00:05:20But, like, if Clint Dempsey was playing on a team where the goalie did that, I feel like he just
00:05:25would have punched his goal in the face.
00:05:26I feel like there would have been some fight.
00:05:28There would have been some, like, what are we doing?
00:05:29Well, that was – you know.
00:05:30That was 40% Tim Rehm's fault as well.
00:05:33The defense would have never, though, would have never conceded that first one that they gave up where everybody was
00:05:38standing around ball watching looking completely uninterested.
00:05:41It was a disaster.
00:05:42It was a disaster that was unrepresentative of both the skill level of the team and the form that they
00:05:48were in all tournament.
00:05:49Like, it was just a complete choke job.
00:05:51They fell flat on their face.
00:05:53Can I ask Jerry a question?
00:05:55Absolutely.
00:05:55As someone who just kind of parachuted in for this game,
00:05:58what do you think about maybe the team's mindset after President Trump kind of causing an international incident?
00:06:05Yeah, I mean, maybe mess with him a little bit.
00:06:08With Balboni?
00:06:09Yeah, Balboni.
00:06:10Balboni, yeah.
00:06:11I mean, maybe mess with –
00:06:11Flocky Balboni.
00:06:12I mean, we fall for this guy, right?
00:06:14The guy with the red card.
00:06:17I watched it.
00:06:18He didn't do a thing.
00:06:19No, he was –
00:06:19I mean, he was –
00:06:20Well, I mean, he kind of played the best of anyone, though.
00:06:22He just didn't have much opportunity.
00:06:24Yeah.
00:06:24He's, you know, he's one that got tackled.
00:06:26Oh, I don't agree.
00:06:26He's the one that got tackled to set up the Tillman goal.
00:06:28He looked like a deer in headlights.
00:06:30Oh, man.
00:06:31He had, what, one of two shots on goal, I think, that he had the entire time?
00:06:34Yeah, I mean, the whole team played terribly.
00:06:36I can't –
00:06:37I don't even know –
00:06:38Anyone who played well –
00:06:38But how did you say that Flo Balboni played, like, especially worse than anybody else
00:06:42when he had no opportunity?
00:06:43Like, they never had the ball.
00:06:44He was just kind of roaming around out there.
00:06:46He didn't look –
00:06:49Every –
00:06:49The touches the whole game were horrific.
00:06:52Like, everybody played poorly.
00:06:53Even Tillman, who scored, was bad the rest of the game.
00:06:56So, if he looked like a deer in headlights, then, I mean, what did Tillman look like?
00:07:00Roadkill?
00:07:00Or, not, excuse me, what did Pulisic look like?
00:07:02Oh, I mean, he –
00:07:03I mean, 12 turnovers in the first half, most of anybody on the field.
00:07:06Yeah, it trumps us.
00:07:06The Pulisic factor in this is a bit fascinating, and we keep mentioning the old guard, Lana Donovan, Tim Howard,
00:07:15and right now, out of the old guard, and names like Carly Lloyd, there's a lot of frustration being expressed
00:07:22with Christian Pulisic, his play, and maybe even some off-the-field issues, even as opposed to on.
00:07:28And here's what Donovan said on Tim Howard's podcast.
00:07:31One of the biggest problems – I speak to people who are at U.S. Soccer, I speak to his
00:07:35sponsors, I speak to his teammates, I speak to the staff and the coaches.
00:07:40People are fed up with the way things are handled around him.
00:07:44And it's not necessarily him, but it's his agents, his family, his hangers-on, the people are influencing.
00:07:50People are fed up with it.
00:07:51They treat people poorly.
00:07:53Yeah, so clearly, Mark, Pulisic, he must be carrying himself as if he's better than, despite not proving it.
00:08:06And so now, everybody's like, okay, that's going to end here.
00:08:10Yeah.
00:08:10I mean, yeah, that's pretty damning from Landon Donovan, who was Captain America before Pulisic is now supposed to be
00:08:17Captain America, even though he's not the captain.
00:08:18That's a little confusing.
00:08:20This is the fallout, I think, the takeaway.
00:08:23I think the thing that we'll be talking – like, obviously, it's still fresh in our minds, but, like, as
00:08:27you move forward, I think the thing that will linger is Christian Pulisic and, like, his role on this team,
00:08:31his role as a leader, his – are we building around him?
00:08:35Are we cutting him completely loose?
00:08:36He's going to be, what, 31 the next World Cup?
00:08:3831 the next World Cup.
00:08:39Which is not super old, but it's not – he's not exactly as – you know, like –
00:08:42A player of his caliber should – he should have one more in him.
00:08:45Yes.
00:08:45For this country.
00:08:46But, yeah, I think that's, like, a legitimate conversation.
00:08:49I'm not as clued in as, obviously, Landon Donovan and probably Big T and all sorts of other people to
00:08:55comment on it, really.
00:08:56But it's very frustrating as a guy – I don't – I'm not as invested as Big T.
00:09:00I'm way more invested than Jerry.
00:09:02Yeah.
00:09:02So, I'm somewhere in the middle here.
00:09:04I would describe myself as that way as well.
00:09:06I have landed, as I sit here, a few days removed from the Belgium game.
00:09:10I am just extremely annoyed with the Christian Pulisic experience.
00:09:13And if you told me that he's just never going to play for America again, I think I would be
00:09:18okay with it.
00:09:18I'd just be, like, fine.
00:09:19That's fine by me.
00:09:20His post-game interview, I was enraged.
00:09:24Uh-huh.
00:09:25Well, and that's exactly what Carly Lloyd's responding to right here.
00:09:27It was just about it. I didn't see it.
00:09:28Where – you go ahead, T.
00:09:30He basically – he subbed out of the game, may or may not have asked to come out for a
00:09:34seemingly minor injury.
00:09:36He asked to come out. He said it all the same.
00:09:38And the – they asked him after the game, like, what happened?
00:09:41He's like, oh, you know, I twisted my ankle, but now I have time to rest, so it'll be okay.
00:09:45Yeah, no ticker.
00:09:46It's like – no, he didn't want to be out there.
00:09:48He skipped the Gold Cup last year to rest.
00:09:50The biggest soccer game, perhaps, in this country – I know, looking back on it, it's like, well, maybe it
00:09:55wasn't.
00:09:55100%.
00:09:56Going into it, it was, right?
00:09:57Going into it was – it's on home soil, World Cup.
00:10:00You are the face of – I know he's not the captain.
00:10:02Tim Ream is the captain, which probably should have told us something, by the way, that, like,
00:10:05Pulisic is no longer the captain.
00:10:06But you're the face of this team, and you go out – like, you asked to come off that way.
00:10:12Like, I thought, as I was watching, I was like, his foot – he might not ever walk again.
00:10:17That has to be what the injury is.
00:10:18If you're going to – if you're going to ask to come out of a World Cup game,
00:10:21I want to see your foot – like, you're getting amputated on the sideline.
00:10:24Like, that's what it took.
00:10:25Donovan did the same thing.
00:10:26And then the postgame, he's like, yeah, I twisted it a little bit.
00:10:29And I was like, twisted it?
00:10:30Twisted it?
00:10:30He would have died out there.
00:10:32Yeah, what are you talking about?
00:10:33Twisted it.
00:10:34No ticker.
00:10:34Me?
00:10:35Oh, yeah, no, no ticker.
00:10:36Also, hand up.
00:10:37I was – what's that guy?
00:10:38Tim Howard?
00:10:39Yeah.
00:10:39I was wrong.
00:10:40You were right.
00:10:41I mean, it's –
00:10:42Oh, yeah.
00:10:42No, no.
00:10:43Yeah.
00:10:44Tim Howard.
00:10:45Yeah, I smashed him on this show.
00:10:48No, look, and so – and so production in my ear was like, okay, well, Asping TV, they
00:10:53want Pulisic back because, like, you had Titus Calito.
00:10:55To be clear, it's not that I don't want Pulisic back.
00:10:57It's almost even worse.
00:10:59I'm so apathetic towards him.
00:11:01Yeah.
00:11:01Like Mark said, you said it perfectly, like, if he wasn't on the next World Cup roster,
00:11:04you wouldn't care because he hasn't done anything on these stages.
00:11:07And to further your point about coming out of the game, Donovan said the same thing.
00:11:10He was like, he came out of a World Cup game with his legs still attached.
00:11:14Yeah.
00:11:14Like, I would have punched the doctor – he literally said, I would have punched the doctor
00:11:17in the face and told him to shoot me up with whatever he needed to so I could stay
00:11:22on that field.
00:11:22You said Clint Dempsey would have died.
00:11:24I agree.
00:11:24To be fair, it was probably better for us that he came off.
00:11:27I mean, he was horrific.
00:11:28Yeah, he was.
00:11:29He was really bad.
00:11:31So, I mean, do you want Pulisic back for this next round, these next four years?
00:11:36We're going to talk about Pulisic later.
00:11:37Well, you know, everybody's talking about the World Cup.
00:11:38We've got a couple Gold Cups in there.
00:11:40I'm sure he'll be excited to play in those.
00:11:41I mean, yeah, I'm talking the cycle.
00:11:43Yeah, exactly.
00:11:43Yeah, right.
00:11:44Yeah.
00:11:44I mean, yes, like, he is – in an ideal world, everything else notwithstanding,
00:11:51he's still one of the most talented players on the team.
00:11:55But, like –
00:11:56If they were like, you know what, he's out, okay.
00:11:59I mean, now, you know, who are you replacing with?
00:12:04Gio Reyna, also a massive disappointment.
00:12:06Yeah, he would be –
00:12:06So, like, I mean, Tillman's been great.
00:12:10But he's kind of earned a starting spot at this point.
00:12:13It doesn't really – I don't think it matters all that much.
00:12:17What if he rests for four years?
00:12:19What if he doesn't play for Club World Cup for four years?
00:12:20Then we might be dealing with something.
00:12:22And we go into the next World Cup and he is fully healthy.
00:12:25He's fully rested.
00:12:26Four years of rest.
00:12:27Four years of rest.
00:12:27So, one other part of the Donovan clip that I think is a nice way to end this conversation
00:12:31and that's going to define Christian Pulisic going forward is Donovan talks about in 2006,
00:12:37when the U.S. got knocked out in the group stages, he was the face of the team.
00:12:42And he describes an experience where it kind of shattered him, right?
00:12:47Like, he had to go to therapy and he had to learn how to treat others around him, right?
00:12:52Like, he basically painted himself as what Pulisic is right now going into that World Cup
00:12:58and he emerges as a different and better version of himself.
00:13:01And that's exactly what you hope Pulisic does now.
00:13:04This is soul-searching time.
00:13:05What defines a man is not the adversity you're met with, it's the response to that adversity.
00:13:10And I'm going to be fascinated to see what Pulisic does this next four years.
00:13:13I don't think he knows there's adversity.
00:13:16I don't think he cares.
00:13:17That would be, yeah, well, so that will define him.
00:13:20That's kind of my point.
00:13:21So, if his response to it is, oh, y'all are wrong, I don't care, I'm still a man.
00:13:24Okay.
00:13:25Then let's wash our hands and move on.
00:13:27I don't even think it's that.
00:13:28I don't think it's screw the haters.
00:13:29I think it's he, I don't know that he knows how many haters there are.
00:13:34Well, then, well.
00:13:36I think he just kind of shows up and plays and like, or doesn't play.
00:13:39And then, like, that's it.
00:13:41Like, that's just what it is.
00:13:43Well, somebody has to break through to him.
00:13:44As we said, and we were kind of talking about it off air, there does seem to be a bit
00:13:49of an agenda.
00:13:51Maybe it's natural, maybe it is more coordinated, but it does seem like, obviously, with those comments,
00:13:55there are people who are trying to break through that bubble that you're talking about and may have surrounded himself
00:14:00with.
00:14:00Listen, I'm a hater now, so he's got to earn my trust back.
00:14:04Yeah.
00:14:04Wow.
00:14:04Yeah, yeah, it's big.
00:14:06But I agree.
00:14:07But I agree.
00:14:08Big T and Big T are standing together on this one.
00:14:10We're T and T.
00:14:11N.T.
00:14:13Jerry, we hope to have you back.
00:14:14I'm sorry.
00:14:15Eventually, we hope to get you back.
00:14:16I was upset with the USA loss.
00:14:18The Columbia loss buried me.
00:14:20Yeah.
00:14:21Buried me.
00:14:21Yeah, yeah.
00:14:22Wifey in shambles.
00:14:23Kid in shambles.
00:14:25It's a tough day.
00:14:26Sad day.
00:14:27Bad day.
00:14:27Sad day, bad day.
00:14:28Catastrophe.
00:14:29What is your ultimate feeling on this World Cup as the dust is settled a little bit?
00:14:34I think it is extremely unfortunate that we lost in the manner we did because if we lost
00:14:41that game 2-1 and it was hard fought, whatever, we won the most games we've ever won a World
00:14:46Cup.
00:14:46We scored the most goals we've ever scored.
00:14:48We have young-ish, exciting players, a coach if we keep him who's proven that he can do it
00:14:56at that level, and I think people would have been like, okay, we still went out in the
00:15:01round of 16, but what a tournament.
00:15:04I think now it's a complete disaster.
00:15:06And everyone who, the people who we need to get on board are like, well, I mean, this
00:15:12was worse than it was before, and now it's kind of a joke.
00:15:16I kind of agree with you.
00:15:17I think going into the World Cup, if you told me we were going to win the group, lose in
00:15:20the round of 16, I would have been excited, but that sounds about right.
00:15:24And there was a world where the young guys are playing well, you see the vision, you
00:15:28get excited about the future, and it all just unraveled.
00:15:31And the crazy part is we did live in that world.
00:15:33Yeah.
00:15:34All the way up until this game.
00:15:35It all unraveled in one game.
00:15:36We absolutely lived in that world.
00:15:37When you watch the United States soccer team, you expect, at the very least, and especially
00:15:42when you're playing at home, you expect them, I thought if we're going to lose to Belgium,
00:15:46it would be like we're over-aggressive, we're almost too amped up.
00:15:48Yeah.
00:15:49We're just like, the guys can't control themselves because they're so excited.
00:15:52They're playing in front of their home fans in the World Cup, you know?
00:15:55Like, I just thought we would be, like, just, everyone's just out of position because they're
00:16:00just running so hard.
00:16:01Yeah, you're going too hard, but it said they pissed down their leg and they were just timid.
00:16:04It was the ball bounces in front of three guys, and they're just standing there like,
00:16:07I don't want it.
00:16:07Do you want it?
00:16:08I don't want it.
00:16:09That first goal is actually the most infuriating to me, still.
00:16:12And by the way, it should have been five.
00:16:14They should have scored in the first 45 seconds.
00:16:16Actually, dude, Freese's save was so awesome.
00:16:18Yeah, it should have been five to one.
00:16:20Crazy.
00:16:20All right, guys, hey, look, football's back today.
00:16:24That was a very good kind of roundtable summation of where the U.S. is at after this tournament.
00:16:29I cannot wait for France-Morrocco today.
00:16:32That's going to be an absolute banger, a rematch of the 2022 semifinals.
00:16:37So we'll break that game down.
00:16:38Plenty more action coming up on Fox.
00:16:40Stick around more Wake Up.
00:16:45Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:16:47It's time for one of our favorite new games here on Thursday.
00:16:50It's Jersey Jerry's sad day, bad day, or catastrophe.
00:16:55Sad day, it's a bad day.
00:16:56Sad day, bad day.
00:16:58Sad day, bad day.
00:17:00This is a catastrophe.
00:17:03Who was on the show last week?
00:17:05I forget.
00:17:06Last Thursday?
00:17:07Oh, Liam and Connor Griffin.
00:17:09Connor, Connor, yeah.
00:17:10I think that was the first time Connor seen the segment.
00:17:13Oh, he never even...
00:17:14I don't know.
00:17:15The original video?
00:17:16Does he know this for him?
00:17:16Connor doesn't watch Thursday, what?
00:17:18Oh, I guess not.
00:17:18No, he was loving it.
00:17:20He was loving it.
00:17:20What a punk, dude.
00:17:21Interesting.
00:17:22So, Jer, does the name Jordan Henderson do anything for you?
00:17:26Have you ever heard of that?
00:17:27No.
00:17:28So, you're going to love this, Sid.
00:17:29This is a player on the English national team who did not play a minute in the game the other
00:17:35night,
00:17:36but got both a yellow card and broke his arm.
00:17:39Oh.
00:17:40Without ever stepping on the field.
00:17:42No way.
00:17:43It's just a separate incident.
00:17:44He was in, like, ten minutes of real time of each other.
00:17:48Absolutely.
00:17:48I mean, so, what are we saying?
00:17:49Sad day, bad day, or catastrophe?
00:17:52Oh, that's...
00:17:53I mean, that's a catastrophe.
00:17:55It's a catastrophe.
00:17:56Oh!
00:17:58God, I didn't want to see that, dude.
00:18:00Oh, that's bad.
00:18:01That would be hurt so bad.
00:18:03That's really bad.
00:18:03It's a bad day.
00:18:05It's catastrophic.
00:18:07In fact, I'm just looking at the list.
00:18:09We might have a lot of catastrophic today.
00:18:11Can I tell you something?
00:18:12As someone who's been in a similar position, though?
00:18:15Yeah.
00:18:15When you snap your arm in half, it doesn't really hurt.
00:18:19Really?
00:18:20See, when I snap my leg, that was, like, the worst pain I've ever been in.
00:18:23You just go into, like, shock.
00:18:25Shock.
00:18:25Adrenaline.
00:18:26Yeah.
00:18:26I had no pain.
00:18:27I didn't think it was bad.
00:18:28What did he get the yellow for?
00:18:30Like, screaming on the floor?
00:18:30He was yelling at the ref.
00:18:32Which one came first?
00:18:34I'm guessing it was the yellow.
00:18:35The yellow.
00:18:35That was celebrating the win.
00:18:37Even more catastrophic.
00:18:39He's jumping over to go celebrate with the boys.
00:18:42That's tough.
00:18:43That Harry Kane's voice.
00:18:44Did you hear him in the first game?
00:18:45That was incredible.
00:18:46That was so funny.
00:18:47That might be an improvement over his normal voice.
00:18:49Pick up!
00:18:50He's doing his best Portnoy after the past Super Bowl.
00:18:53All right.
00:18:54This next one.
00:18:55Wait.
00:18:55Did you have?
00:18:56No, I'm crazy.
00:18:57This next one on the list.
00:18:58Jared Jones.
00:18:59It happened again.
00:19:00No, this was great.
00:19:02Six perfect innings for Jared Jones in just 77 pitches.
00:19:06And, well, they end up pulling him.
00:19:09Of course, Yuri Perez to the Marlins was pulled after seven innings on Sunday
00:19:13where he was only at 92 pitches.
00:19:15And here's a stat for you guys.
00:19:17Our ex-graphics man, Connor, has put this all together.
00:19:21From 1901 to 2015.
00:19:24So, well over 100 years.
00:19:26When you had a pitcher throwing a perfect game where they pulled after six plus innings.
00:19:31It happened zero times in 115 years.
00:19:34Then from 16 to 25 in the last decade.
00:19:36It happened three times.
00:19:37And now it's happened two times in four days.
00:19:40That's insane.
00:19:41This is just sad.
00:19:43Can I?
00:19:44This is sad.
00:19:45Can I say something?
00:19:46Yeah.
00:19:4777 is a bit light.
00:19:49But he is, I think he's only made five starts this year.
00:19:53Like, he's building back up from injury.
00:19:56And with the way these guys get hurt now, like, that is the right call from the Pirates.
00:20:01It's very Christian Pulisic of you.
00:20:03Yeah, it is.
00:20:04If I'm MLB commissioner, if I take over for Rob Manfred, I'm putting in a, bouncy is the wrong word,
00:20:11an incentive, a reward.
00:20:13I'm putting in a system where if you throw a perfect game, you make $50 million.
00:20:18The manager's got to get a little bonus, too.
00:20:19There's got to be, yeah, I'm putting in a system.
00:20:23I'm putting something in place.
00:20:24Fans want to see this.
00:20:25This is something that, like, we are in the dog days of the MLB season.
00:20:29I know the All-Star game's coming up.
00:20:30Big T, I know you're a baseball fan.
00:20:31I don't know, Jerry and T-Bob, but whatever.
00:20:34I love baseball.
00:20:35I watch a ton of baseball.
00:20:36But right now, it's a boring time.
00:20:39We need the All-Star game.
00:20:40We need to, like, you know, we need to wait a couple months and then get excited about the playoffs.
00:20:45We need something like this to get people excited about baseball.
00:20:49And I think a perfect game would have done it.
00:20:51And I'm not saying he would have finished the perfect game, but just, like, you know.
00:20:54But these are the highlights that would have dominated a sports center the next morning, the next day.
00:21:00The highlights that maybe even, like, you're flipping the channels at night and you end up popping over to the
00:21:05game.
00:21:05Or they do a live look-in because he's in, like, the eighth and he's pushing a perfect game.
00:21:09We don't do live look-ins unless it's Aaron Judge interrupting college football to break a record that no one
00:21:14even knew existed.
00:21:15Now, what I...
00:21:16That's the only time we do live look-ins anymore.
00:21:17What I would have loved to see...
00:21:18The Pirates didn't score in this game.
00:21:20They lost 3-0.
00:21:21I would have loved to see a perfect game through nine, go to extras, scoreless, and they throw a perfect
00:21:28game but lose.
00:21:29Oh.
00:21:29Oh.
00:21:30Yeah.
00:21:31Because guy starts on second, you could do ground out, sack fly.
00:21:34Yeah.
00:21:35If that happens, $70 million.
00:21:36Oh, but you're not responsible for that base runner.
00:21:39Yeah.
00:21:39So you could, in theory, have a perfect game where, yeah, you lose.
00:21:42That's fascinating.
00:21:43What happened to the pitcher just refusing to come out?
00:21:45What happened with that?
00:21:46I remember being in Little League.
00:21:48Yeah, it's true.
00:21:49My coach told me, Jerry, come out.
00:21:50You're done.
00:21:50No, I'm not done.
00:21:51Trying to take the ball.
00:21:52No, uh-uh.
00:21:53It's the hell out of my mouth.
00:21:54The pitcher's got soft.
00:21:54I would say, no, I'm not coming out.
00:21:56Yeah, maybe.
00:21:57I don't know.
00:21:59Policification of America.
00:22:00Uh-huh.
00:22:01Okay, now we're going to get a little weird.
00:22:04So this is a story.
00:22:06Where did this story come from?
00:22:07I guess location doesn't matter as much.
00:22:11Fort Wayne, Indiana.
00:22:13Oh.
00:22:13A man, Christopher Peden, Pedden.
00:22:17What?
00:22:17This is a catastrophe.
00:22:18Investigators say a Fort Wayne man cut off his penis, lit it on fire, and then used it
00:22:23to set his mom's garage on fire.
00:22:26Yeah.
00:22:26To detect that.
00:22:28Okay, so hold on.
00:22:29Let me understand this.
00:22:30Man, let off his penis.
00:22:31I got that part.
00:22:32Yeah.
00:22:32Lit it on fire.
00:22:33I think I understand that.
00:22:34Yeah.
00:22:34Used it to set his mom's garage on fire.
00:22:37I have so many questions about that part as well.
00:22:39Uh, like, Molotov cocktail type situation?
00:22:42Is it?
00:22:43Is this thing like a long burning candle?
00:22:46Like, how did it?
00:22:48There's got to be a better accelerant to burn down your mother's house.
00:22:52Yeah.
00:22:52It feels like he looked around and arrived at probably the single worst thing that he could
00:22:57I have a question.
00:22:59What did he, uh, can you, are you allowed to say the P word on national TV?
00:23:03Yeah, it's a scientific term.
00:23:04What did he put on the penis?
00:23:05I don't know, right?
00:23:06Gasoline?
00:23:06Yeah.
00:23:07Because, like, that was my question as well.
00:23:08Does our skin, would it just burn like that?
00:23:11I don't think it would.
00:23:11I don't know.
00:23:12It's pretty crazy.
00:23:13It's catastrophic.
00:23:14It's pretty crazy, yeah.
00:23:15Peed in, more like, peed out.
00:23:17Peed out.
00:23:17Yeah.
00:23:18Peed off.
00:23:19Take it out of here.
00:23:20Yeah, but it's catastrophic.
00:23:22It's just a penis.
00:23:24This is Indiana.
00:23:26And then, in another catastrophic story, potentially, a man drops his sunglasses.
00:23:33He's at a camp, and he drops his sunglasses in what is essentially a giant port-a-potty.
00:23:39It's like a septic tank, you know, no plumbing.
00:23:41Well, so he drops his sunglasses in there.
00:23:42He goes to grab the sunglasses, falls inside.
00:23:47Stuck for 15 minutes, yelling, screaming, somebody come save me.
00:23:54And finally, I think about after half an hour, first responders managed to pull him from the tank.
00:24:00Oh, my gosh.
00:24:00I have some, I don't want to brag, I do okay for myself, I have some rather expensive sunglasses.
00:24:08My sunglasses would have to cost $5,000 to even attempt to retrieve them.
00:24:14I was wondering, is there anything that you could drop in there that you would try to go in after?
00:24:20My daughter.
00:24:21Okay, yeah, that's a good call.
00:24:23That's about it.
00:24:24Child, yes.
00:24:25Child.
00:24:25That's about it.
00:24:26What about your phone?
00:24:27Your phone goes in there, what are you doing?
00:24:28Even then, like, I would want to know the, even if my daughter went in there, I would want to
00:24:31know the context.
00:24:32I'd be like, was it her fault?
00:24:33Like, she could, it might be a learning opportunity.
00:24:35Maybe you're like calling, yeah, you can just call it to come out.
00:24:37What about an engagement ring?
00:24:40Because those can get, that's, I think that's a bad omen.
00:24:42That's, like, the biggest purchase that a person makes.
00:24:44You get those for cheap now.
00:24:45I think if you're ready to propose and your ring falls into a septic tank, I think you just call
00:24:49off the whole relationship.
00:24:50Yeah, it's a sign.
00:24:51It's a sign, yeah.
00:24:53God, catastrophic, though, dude.
00:24:54Getting stuck in the vat.
00:24:57He later had to be decontaminated, but thankfully, no injuries.
00:25:02No injuries for him.
00:25:03Bad day.
00:25:04All right, guys, coming up next, I want to look at today's France-Morocco game, okay?
00:25:09World Cup, we missed it yesterday.
00:25:11It's back, and let's continue to break down what's been a wild offseason at NBA Free Agency.
00:25:15More Wake Up Barstool here on FS1.
00:25:26He's back.
00:25:27Wow.
00:25:28What's happening, y'all?
00:25:29Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:25:32France-Morocco are playing today.
00:25:33That was rough.
00:25:34That was rough.
00:25:35Yeah.
00:25:35That was rough.
00:25:36Barely made it.
00:25:37That was incredible.
00:25:37Barely made it back from the bathroom, but...
00:25:41Thumbach flipped, right?
00:25:41Just flip?
00:25:42We made it.
00:25:43What?
00:25:43It happens sometimes.
00:25:44Yeah, what's going on?
00:25:45I ate the sushi in the fridge yesterday.
00:25:47Oh, that was a mistake.
00:25:47How long are you going to be leaning?
00:25:49It had been...
00:25:49I got to figure something out.
00:25:51I got to let my body settle.
00:25:52Yeah.
00:25:53That was impressive.
00:25:54That was very impressive.
00:25:54That takes me back to, like, seventh grade when our passing periods were, like, three and
00:25:58a half minutes.
00:25:59Yeah.
00:26:00And teachers would expect you to figure out a way to get your business done in three
00:26:05and a half minutes.
00:26:0648 hours sushi, guys.
00:26:09You could take a segment.
00:26:11Maybe not the best idea.
00:26:12No.
00:26:12No.
00:26:13Because I ain't Chris Pulisic.
00:26:15I'm not giving in to the Pulisic-ification of America.
00:26:17I'm just going to let you know, if you do anything that reaches over here, we're going
00:26:21to have a problem.
00:26:21Yeah, no, we're good.
00:26:22We're good.
00:26:22We're good.
00:26:23We're good.
00:26:23All right.
00:26:23All right.
00:26:24I'm settled in, boys.
00:26:25NBA Free HZ.
00:26:26It's been crazy.
00:26:27It's been insane.
00:26:28What's LeBron going to do?
00:26:30Are the Sixers going to be better than the Celtics?
00:26:32Mark, what's your reaction?
00:26:34Mike Conley to the Celtics.
00:26:35Huge story.
00:26:36Yeah.
00:26:3620 for Mike Conley.
00:26:37I mean, LeBron is the story.
00:26:39Obviously, LeBron, anytime LeBron does anything, it's the story.
00:26:42Like, he's obviously not the best player in the league anymore, but it is fascinating
00:26:46to see.
00:26:47He's good enough to help a title team.
00:26:50I think he's good enough.
00:26:51He goes to, if he makes the right decision, he could win another championship.
00:26:56It's just, what is that decision going to be?
00:26:59I feel like it's Cleveland.
00:27:00I feel like, you know, if all of these reports about, like, he's making a documentary, and
00:27:06obviously he's an extremely image-conscious guy, and, like, is very obsessed with the idea
00:27:11of people loving him and, like, presenting his image in the right way and all that.
00:27:15I think if you take all that into consideration, Cleveland is kind of the only play, but there
00:27:20also seems to be a sense that, like, does he want to play with James Harden?
00:27:25Does he want to go play with this Cleveland team?
00:27:27So, I don't really know what's going on.
00:27:29I don't know what the timeline is for him.
00:27:31Maybe he should, like, wait to see who wins the NBA Cup.
00:27:34I've seen that as a theory.
00:27:35Like, what if you win the NBA Cup, you get LeBron James?
00:27:38It's hot right now.
00:27:39Yeah.
00:27:39Like, he just, LeBron just is just like, I'm going to take some time off and do the Christian
00:27:43Pulisic at rest.
00:27:45But, yeah, LeBron is the story of free agency, and, yeah, he's kind of, like, that's the
00:27:52only thing that I'm really super interested in.
00:27:54So, again, I agree, like, from a pure reading the omens and a vibe standpoint, he just had
00:28:04the 2016 reunion with all the boys from the Cavs.
00:28:07I think he's reportedly been spending much more time in Akron.
00:28:11That makes it clear.
00:28:12What about through this lens, though?
00:28:14Purely, if he was making the decision to win a title, which interested team, which team
00:28:19near the top of the odds do you think would give him the best chance?
00:28:24I mean, the Spurs obviously make a ton of sense.
00:28:26They could use a guy who won't poop his pants.
00:28:29Yeah, that's a very good point.
00:28:30The Spurs are probably the most talented team in the NBA.
00:28:34Yeah, that would make a ton of sense.
00:28:36I think you can't go to the Knicks if you're LeBron, obviously.
00:28:38No.
00:28:39That's, you cross them off.
00:28:40The Spurs, I don't think you can go to either.
00:28:42I don't think any of the top three.
00:28:44Celtics fans hate him.
00:28:45I think, like, if I'm looking at these odds out there.
00:28:47Yeah, like Sixers, Warriors are in there.
00:28:50The first one that's actually plausible as you're going down the list, I don't think
00:28:53you can go to the top four.
00:28:54I think it's the Sixers are the first one that's like, I guess you could kind of argue
00:28:58that that's, one, he could win a championship, but two, like, LeBron could sell it to the public
00:29:03as, like, he's not exactly, he's not doing the Durant to the Warriors thing, even though
00:29:08he kind of is.
00:29:08So if he went to the Warriors, though, and you had all the old heads, the NBA expendable
00:29:13back to one more ride, do you think they would have a title shot?
00:29:18I think, I'm dumb enough to believe they would.
00:29:21I'm dumb enough to believe that they would, just because, yeah, I think that they would
00:29:25find a way.
00:29:26I don't know if they actually would win it, but I think they would be good enough to be
00:29:30in the mix, for sure.
00:29:32I wouldn't hate that, by the way, if he went to the Warriors.
00:29:34I don't think, like, I know some people are like, that would be equivalent to Durant going
00:29:38to the Warriors, he's joining the enemy, he's, I wouldn't see it like that.
00:29:42Well, no, yeah, I think.
00:29:43I think it would be awesome, actually.
00:29:45I think those are vastly different situations, given the age and context of all the players
00:29:49involved.
00:29:50T, how are you counting days, down the days, till decision 4.0, LeBron?
00:29:55What's that?
00:29:55Yeah, like, what do you do, like, are you like, do you have like, like, as soon as he
00:29:59announces, I know you're going to want to react, so you already have your video planned.
00:30:02This is how I...
00:30:04Tapas, ready to go to celebrate.
00:30:06The way the rest of America feels about soccer, that's how I feel about this.
00:30:11So you just, you just...
00:30:12The finals are over, it's time to not, we don't have to do this.
00:30:15So you're the jersey, Jerry, of specifically LeBron, or the entirety of the NBA?
00:30:19The whole thing.
00:30:20So like, Jalen Brown being traded to Sixers does nothing for your heart, like, doesn't get
00:30:23your juices going at all?
00:30:25You're...
00:30:26Is that...
00:30:26Did that happen?
00:30:28LaMelo showing up all of a sudden, he's going to be in Minnesota with Ant?
00:30:31Are you kidding me?
00:30:32I did hear about that.
00:30:33Yeah, I mean, this is...
00:30:34It's July, dude.
00:30:36Like...
00:30:36It's been sexy, though.
00:30:37We don't have to...
00:30:38Call me in June.
00:30:39Jerry, have you been...
00:30:41Are you tapped in any LeBron action?
00:30:42Definitely not tapped in.
00:30:44I'd like to know a little bit more, though.
00:30:46The Cavs, the Heat, the 76ers, three best odds to land them, I'd assume.
00:30:50Yeah, yeah.
00:30:52So, which one of those teams went the furthest last year?
00:30:55The Sixers, right?
00:30:56Or did the Sixers and Cavs both get knocked out at the same round?
00:31:00No, the Cavs made the...
00:31:02Did the Cavs make the Eastern Conference Finals?
00:31:03Oh, it's got to be the Cavs, then.
00:31:05Yeah, okay, yeah.
00:31:06Go back home.
00:31:07Yeah.
00:31:08I mean, I kind of agree with you here.
00:31:10Yeah, go back home.
00:31:11They're juicing this thing up.
00:31:12Rich Paul's out there.
00:31:13He's got the whiteboard.
00:31:14He's doing all the pros and cons.
00:31:16Even if he doesn't win at all, it's a great story.
00:31:18I agree.
00:31:18Jalen Brett, you're talking about the streamer?
00:31:20Yes, the streamer.
00:31:21Yeah.
00:31:22He now plays...
00:31:23He's very good.
00:31:24For the Philadelphia 76ers?
00:31:26Yes.
00:31:26And he's actually like...
00:31:27Yeah, he plays...
00:31:28The streamer plays in the NBA.
00:31:29Really?
00:31:29He's really...
00:31:30He's like good, too.
00:31:30Basketball player, too.
00:31:31Last year, he was top five MVP, vote getter, I think.
00:31:36For streaming?
00:31:37No, no, no, no, no.
00:31:38For the NBA.
00:31:40Very successful streamer, as well.
00:31:42But, also, kind of at his prime as a player.
00:31:45And they traded him for Paul George.
00:31:47And as a streamer.
00:31:48And he's a streamer.
00:31:49He's multifaceted, dude.
00:31:50Multi-talented.
00:31:51Wow.
00:31:53I think it's been a fantastic offseason for the NBA.
00:31:56As you said, it is July, but they're still managing to grab headlines.
00:32:00I think that's big for the lead.
00:32:01We'll see.
00:32:02If LeBron could do it over, if I was a part of his team and we could do it over,
00:32:06I think after he wins a championship in Cleveland, he just becomes a one-year mercenary
00:32:10and goes and takes truly the hardest road and tries to win a championship for every franchise
00:32:15that hasn't won a championship.
00:32:16And I think that would have been pretty cool.
00:32:17I think if you could do it over, it's like, all right, I got one for Cleveland.
00:32:20And then he looks at the landscape and he's like, Pelicans, you're up next.
00:32:23Kings, you're up next.
00:32:24Number 23 Pelicans.
00:32:24Wizards, you want one?
00:32:26You know, and then he just goes to wherever he goes and he stays until he wins a championship
00:32:30and then goes to the next.
00:32:30I mean, Wizards, they have no shot of landing him, I don't think.
00:32:33But, like, they're trying.
00:32:35Yeah.
00:32:35And, like, him and AD, they won a championship together before.
00:32:39They kind of like each other.
00:32:40That could be kind of fun.
00:32:42Doubt he'll do it, though.
00:32:42Doubt he'll do it.
00:32:44We're going to continue to talk about it, though.
00:32:45We'll see.
00:32:46How about this?
00:32:48Today, or let's go ahead and do this.
00:32:49We'll go to break.
00:32:50Big T's coming up next.
00:32:53T's going to get you right, man.
00:32:55He's going to let you know the play, the parlay, to make you a little money.
00:33:00Potentially.
00:33:00Probably not.
00:33:01Don't say that.
00:33:02But probably not.
00:33:02We'll see.
00:33:03Coming up, more Wake Up Barstool.
00:33:05Where's that?
00:33:06Is that Chicago?
00:33:07Looks like Abu Dhabi.
00:33:16The FIFA World Cup on Fox moves into the quarterfinals.
00:33:21Today, Kylian Mbappe and France take on Morocco with coverage starting at 2 p.m. Eastern.
00:33:26Then, tomorrow, it's the powerhouse Spain squaring up with Belgium.
00:33:30Coverage begins at 1 p.m. Eastern.
00:33:32And it's all on Fox.
00:33:36What's at 2 p.m. on the graphic?
00:33:371 p.m. on the T's.
00:33:38It's going to be tomorrow.
00:33:39It's going to be great.
00:33:40Right now, it's time for Big T's.
00:33:42Big T's.
00:33:42Big T's.
00:33:43Tease us away.
00:33:45Roll the package.
00:33:46There we go.
00:33:48All four quarterfinal matchups of the World Cup.
00:33:54I'm told we're doing one at a time.
00:33:57Okay.
00:33:59England or tie.
00:34:00We're doing a lot of double chance in this one.
00:34:02England or tie in 90 minutes.
00:34:05Okay.
00:34:05We're getting back to the roots of the Big T's, which is like minus 500.
00:34:09Like, that's what this was born out of.
00:34:12A lot of definitely going to happen to create a little bit of plus size.
00:34:17Yes.
00:34:18England or tie in 90 minutes.
00:34:20They're better than Norway.
00:34:21Norway's been playing some really good soccer.
00:34:23But I don't think they win that one in 90 minutes.
00:34:25Just say about size.
00:34:26Now, this one, Argentina has to win the game.
00:34:30They've got a little bit of a rabbit's foot up their ass recently.
00:34:35But I think they're going to take care of Switzerland.
00:34:37Yeah, Argentina is what they're calling them.
00:34:38That's true.
00:34:40I like that.
00:34:40Switzerland, I am not impressed with.
00:34:44Colombia should have beaten them, but they didn't take care of it in penalties.
00:34:47Sorry, Jer.
00:34:48Argentina moves.
00:34:49Also, I mean, this is FIFA wants the rematch.
00:34:52Oh, yeah.
00:34:53They want Argentina-France.
00:34:54Football is fixed for Argentina.
00:34:56I saw that, too.
00:34:57That's what FIFA stands for.
00:34:58I mean, so we'll get into it.
00:35:01But in today's...
00:35:01I don't know.
00:35:02The internet is having a field day with us.
00:35:04In today's France-Argentina...
00:35:06In today's France-Morocco match, do you know the nationality of every single referee?
00:35:11Argentinian.
00:35:11Yeah, yeah.
00:35:12We'll get there.
00:35:12Relax, Jeremy.
00:35:13We'll get there.
00:35:13Okay.
00:35:14And France has dudes on yellow cards, right?
00:35:16So if they get yellow cards...
00:35:17Yes.
00:35:18They are now appealing...
00:35:20Is it a Lise or a Dembele?
00:35:22They're appealing yellow cards, though.
00:35:24Now that the U.S. has got the red card turned over.
00:35:28Okay.
00:35:28Sorry, T.
00:35:29Spain to qualify.
00:35:31Hang on.
00:35:31Is this the right tease?
00:35:33It's fine.
00:35:34It's fine.
00:35:35I've been the wrong tease.
00:35:35Wait a second.
00:35:36It's fine.
00:35:37What a disastrous tease this could be.
00:35:39No, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:35:39This is right.
00:35:40This is right.
00:35:41This is right.
00:35:41Spain to qualify.
00:35:44They're going to trounce Belgium.
00:35:45Guys, don't bet this.
00:35:47I was confused.
00:35:49Don't bet this.
00:35:49I'll tell you the problem.
00:35:50It's a sad day.
00:35:51I'll tell you the problem.
00:35:52I thought I did double chance with one qualify.
00:35:56It's one double chance in the other three or two.
00:35:57Okay.
00:35:58Okay.
00:35:58Spain's going to...
00:35:59It doesn't matter.
00:36:00Spain's going to win, like, 3-0 against Belgium.
00:36:03They're going to absolutely destroy them.
00:36:05Spain wins.
00:36:06Are we speaking with our heart here at all because of what...
00:36:08No.
00:36:09No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:36:10Okay.
00:36:11Belgium is not good.
00:36:13Okay.
00:36:13They're going to get killed.
00:36:15Okay.
00:36:16And finally, in the last game, France to qualify.
00:36:19They're going to qualify as well against Morocco.
00:36:21They're going to win the...
00:36:22I just go...
00:36:23Listen, if you don't like the tees, just go back France.
00:36:26They're probably, what, plus 150 still to win the whole thing?
00:36:29Yeah.
00:36:29I mean, they're...
00:36:30Yeah, basically.
00:36:31Nobody's beating that team.
00:36:32Vive la France.
00:36:33Allez les bleus.
00:36:35And this is plus 168.
00:36:37I think that...
00:36:37I think...
00:36:38I love it.
00:36:38Shout out, Big Tees, Big Tees.
00:36:40He feels very confident about all these quarterfinal matches.
00:36:42We'll see.
00:36:42I think there's a little...
00:36:45There's going to be...
00:36:46I would imagine there's going to be something that's going to shock us, a result that will
00:36:50shock us.
00:36:50But we'll see.
00:36:51France-Morocco, will that be the one?
00:36:53It's a rematch of a 2022 semifinal.
00:36:58Mark, what's your thoughts on France-Morocco?
00:36:59I have...
00:37:00A lot of history in this game.
00:37:01In the promotion that we're doing here at the company, I have France.
00:37:05If France...
00:37:06You have kinks?
00:37:06You have France?
00:37:07I have France.
00:37:07Oh, my God.
00:37:08I stand to win a lot of money in France.
00:37:10Did you get first pick?
00:37:11Yeah, we did.
00:37:11Yeah, we did.
00:37:12So, I've been locked in on this France team.
00:37:14They are so good.
00:37:15Yeah.
00:37:15They won...
00:37:16If you didn't really watch the game against Paraguay and you saw that they won 1-0, you
00:37:20might be like, well, hang on a second.
00:37:21Didn't the USA beat Paraguay 4-1?
00:37:23That was a disgusting game.
00:37:25That was just a disgusting game of soccer.
00:37:28Paraguay was very dirty during the game, very dirty after the game.
00:37:32I don't know if you're seeing what their politicians are saying, how the Paraguayans...
00:37:35Yeah, they've had to come out and apologize for racist remarks.
00:37:38But they were...
00:37:38Oh, she did not apologize.
00:37:40Oh, they didn't apologize.
00:37:41Sorry, their Senate did.
00:37:42The overall Senate, like, did on her behalf.
00:37:46So, yeah, I wasn't deterred by that at all.
00:37:48In fact, I was, like, actually impressed that France...
00:37:50Like, France was way better than Paraguay.
00:37:52And they got pulled into the mud and, you know...
00:37:54I'm impressed that no one started a fight or anything like that.
00:37:57France is just so good.
00:37:58They're so loaded.
00:37:59They got the...
00:38:00Dembélé is the Ballon d'Or.
00:38:03Yeah.
00:38:03Yeah.
00:38:04They're three...
00:38:05He's, like, their third best player.
00:38:05Their three attackers are three of the five or six best players in the world.
00:38:11That's insane.
00:38:11But Lise leads the tournament in assists.
00:38:13He's got five.
00:38:14He's made everything happen for their...
00:38:17Mbappe's also got a few assists to his name.
00:38:19Yeah, it's...
00:38:20Let me ask...
00:38:20When it's clicking, it's overwhelming.
00:38:22Let me ask you this, Big T.
00:38:24The guys who are scheduling the World Cup screwed up.
00:38:27And they accidentally put France, they put Argentina, and they put Norway.
00:38:32They're all playing at the exact same time.
00:38:34And you don't have the technology to watch all three.
00:38:36You have to watch one of them.
00:38:37Are you watching Lionel Messi?
00:38:38Are you watching Mbappe?
00:38:39Or are you watching Arlen Holland?
00:38:41Is it these matchups?
00:38:42No.
00:38:43It's just the three of them are playing.
00:38:44I mean, I'm a Holland guy because I'm a Man City fan.
00:38:49But of these games in the quarterfinal, I think Norway, England is going to be the best one.
00:38:54So I would watch that.
00:38:55But just those three players...
00:38:55I'm just saying those three guys...
00:38:57It's still Holland.
00:38:58...who's capturing your attention right now the most in the World Cup.
00:38:59Who's like this guy...
00:39:00I can't believe what I'm seeing out of this guy.
00:39:04Um, I mean, I can believe it, but Holland is just the man.
00:39:09Like, he's out.
00:39:10He's a Viking, and he just kind of lurks in weight, and then he just pounces and kills people.
00:39:17And then he, like, trolls them, and he's the man.
00:39:20He averages a goal.
00:39:20I love watching him.
00:39:21What was the stat I saw?
00:39:23I'm sorry.
00:39:24Oh, what?
00:39:25Every 13.8 touches, I think, is the stat I saw.
00:39:28Oh, that's insane.
00:39:28The average is a goal.
00:39:29That's pretty cool.
00:39:31He touches the ball 14 times, he's going to get a goal.
00:39:33I think he has 59 goals in 30 matches for Norway.
00:39:37Yeah, Connor, I don't know.
00:39:38Well, I don't know if we still have the graphic.
00:39:39We actually made this graphic a couple shows ago, his goals per game, because he averages
00:39:43like 1.15 for the international team.
00:39:46I think he has...
00:39:47He's scored in 14 consecutive Norwegian matches.
00:39:50He's got 28 goals in those 14.
00:39:52So, like, if he comes away with one goal in the game, his average is going down.
00:39:56It goes down, yeah.
00:39:57Like, he's an outlier right now.
00:39:58That said, the French attack, like, Norway's solid everywhere else, but the French attack
00:40:05has four Hollands running around out there.
00:40:07So, that's what I watch.
00:40:08How about this guy?
00:40:09So, this should give Holland the ball more.
00:40:10That goal, if we can run it again, this goal is nuts.
00:40:14Yeah, it's crazy.
00:40:16And he doesn't even...
00:40:17And the reaction's nuts, too.
00:40:19He's just like, yeah, I did that.
00:40:20He's like, yeah, I'll shoot it.
00:40:21So much power.
00:40:22So perfectly played.
00:40:24He's very funny on social media, too.
00:40:26Yeah, he's awesome.
00:40:27He vlogs.
00:40:28Yeah.
00:40:29He's been the number one breakout star in the tournament, without a doubt.
00:40:32You think he's attractive, T-Bob?
00:40:34Yeah.
00:40:35Yeah, I do.
00:40:35But again, like, if it was in a vacuum and I just saw him, not as attractive as, obviously,
00:40:43with the context of him being, like, so incredible.
00:40:456'5 international star.
00:40:46But he's giant and he's got abs and stuff.
00:40:49But then, like, kind of a funny face.
00:40:51Kind of like a nice face.
00:40:52But it works for him.
00:40:53Big lips, crazy smile.
00:40:56Viking factor's just impossible to get over.
00:40:59Yeah.
00:40:59Again, the...
00:41:00See, like that?
00:41:01That's not a great...
00:41:02That's not the most photogenic picture right there.
00:41:05That doesn't tell the whole story.
00:41:06But he's got the aura, though.
00:41:08He's got the aura.
00:41:09He's got the aura.
00:41:11We'll get into this match a bit more.
00:41:13But again, today, Morocco, France.
00:41:15And as referenced, the entire officiating crew, Argentinian.
00:41:21Yeah.
00:41:21And so I started to look into this.
00:41:23And there's a lot of reasons, normally, when FIFA decides whether or not you can referee a game.
00:41:27Like, interestingly, English referees not allowed to touch any Argentina games because of the War of the Falklands back from,
00:41:34like, 1982.
00:41:35Wow.
00:41:36I didn't know all this.
00:41:36Like, of course, like, the U.S. refs wouldn't be allowed to do, like, an Iran game right now.
00:41:41Wow.
00:41:42But I also read that, generally, they don't let you referee games if it's a team that could play your
00:41:51country, like, nationality.
00:41:53So, like, English refs weren't allowed to referee games with teams that were in their group.
00:41:57And yet, they're letting the Argentinians call France-Morocco match.
00:42:02Interesting.
00:42:02Kind of interesting.
00:42:04Interesting.
00:42:04But is this theory that they would try to rig it against France?
00:42:10Yes.
00:42:10Because I don't agree with that at all.
00:42:12Take the big dog out.
00:42:13No.
00:42:13FIFA wants France-Argentina.
00:42:16Yeah, but Argentinian refs might not want France-Argentina.
00:42:18But FIFA wouldn't have assigned them to that if they thought that was an issue.
00:42:22Great point, Big T.
00:42:23Well, either way, we now have our conspiracy.
00:42:26Whoever.
00:42:26Yeah, it's true.
00:42:27We can use conspiracy either way.
00:42:29Either way, yeah.
00:42:30It's true.
00:42:31It's because of the Argentinian refs.
00:42:32Now, to be clear, this crew is very highly regarded.
00:42:36Like, they're supposed to be one of the best.
00:42:38And that is the main baseline factor for how FIFA choose this game is purely performance.
00:42:43But, yeah.
00:42:44We have Rafael Claus.
00:42:45And yet, we still have Rafael Claus out there.
00:42:48Mm-hmm.
00:42:49You know?
00:42:50It's supposed to.
00:42:50These are supposed to be good refs.
00:42:52But, Rafael.
00:42:53We've lost her.
00:42:54Rafael Claus.
00:42:55We can't complain about that anymore.
00:42:56I don't know if I'm deep enough in the game to have a referee to.
00:43:01I don't know any of the refs by name.
00:43:02You don't know Rafael Claus?
00:43:03Mm-hmm.
00:43:04You don't know about his issues in Brazil?
00:43:07No.
00:43:08No, guys.
00:43:08I don't know what we're talking about here.
00:43:10His name being Rafael Claus will just stick in my brain forever.
00:43:12I think when I learned the name.
00:43:13He was the ref of the Bosnia.
00:43:14He gave Balogun the red card.
00:43:16Ah.
00:43:16He's the ref.
00:43:17Oh, he was the one.
00:43:18Yeah.
00:43:19Okay.
00:43:19Yeah.
00:43:20No, I immediately.
00:43:21The second the red card happened.
00:43:22Big T, I assume you're with me.
00:43:24I immediately was like, I need to know everything about this guy.
00:43:26Oh, well, I was with PFT and Jeff Lowe at the game, and when we saw the tweet that he'd
00:43:33been involved in, you know, some scandal in Brazil with irregular red cards, I was like,
00:43:38well, I mean, this needs to go to the top, and it did.
00:43:41I was like, I want to know everything about this guy.
00:43:43The first thing I learned was his name.
00:43:45It was Rafael Claus.
00:43:46I laughed, and I was like, all right, this is preposterous.
00:43:49I still remember the Wales game in the 22 World Cup, Abdur Rahman Al-Jassim was the
00:43:57ref.
00:43:58He was a scumbag.
00:44:00Who could forget?
00:44:00You're on notice, Abdur Rahman.
00:44:02I mean, that game was fixed.
00:44:03For what it's worth.
00:44:04And then Walker Zimmerman totally goes, forget it.
00:44:07Didier Deschamps said, quote, we have to deal with it.
00:44:11I trust the referees.
00:44:12I'll put it in Morocco, not the referees.
00:44:15So, you know, Didier said no big deal.
00:44:17Is that what he said?
00:44:17Well said.
00:44:18Greg Berhalter joining the show next.
00:44:20We'll get his opinion on the U.S. flame out, as well as where this tournament goes from
00:44:24here.
00:44:25We got more Wake Up Barstool.
00:44:36Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:44:38Very excited to bring a true expert onto the panel today, as we as former U.S.
00:44:43MNT head coach and player Greg Berhalter to help us make sense of it all.
00:44:47Coach Berhalter, thank you for joining us.
00:44:50Hey, guys.
00:44:51Good to see you again.
00:44:52Coach, it's great to see you again.
00:44:53Let's dive right into it.
00:44:55What was your perspective, your interpretation of the quality or lack thereof that you saw
00:45:03the other night against Belgium?
00:45:07You know, it's one of those days where for some reason, you know, probably nine out of
00:45:1411 starters just had bad nights, had off nights, lack of energy.
00:45:20And then guys just didn't perform up to their normal levels.
00:45:22And it's really unfortunate that it happened in, you know, around the 16 game.
00:45:26You know, that's where that's where you need players to be at their best.
00:45:30And unfortunately, we weren't on our best at that on that night.
00:45:33Well, and again, it was a game where it was not representative of the team that we had seen
00:45:39up to this point.
00:45:40And I thought guys looked a little timid, a little scared, lackluster.
00:45:45How much does the coach bear culpability in this moment?
00:45:48I mean, you've been in these seats before where we just kind of boil it down to that.
00:45:53How much does this fall to the coach's feet when the team looks so kind of unprepared?
00:45:59You know, I remember in 2022 after beating Iran and then preparing for the Netherlands match
00:46:07and, you know, we were there for a pretty long time in Qatar and we were so excited to beat
00:46:14Iran
00:46:14and it was like, OK, now how do you get up for the next match, right?
00:46:18How do you get the guys to the same levels in this in the Netherlands match?
00:46:24And a very similar question for, you know, for how this tournament went.
00:46:27There was a ton of euphoria in the first game.
00:46:30You know, we played Bosnia.
00:46:32It was a huge, huge event.
00:46:34We won.
00:46:34And now it's like, OK, how do you do it again?
00:46:36And what I was trying to say, I don't know if I said it last time when I was on
00:46:40the show,
00:46:40but I was trying to say that like to win a World Cup, to navigate through the knockout rounds,
00:46:45you need so much focus and so much concentration throughout the tournament
00:46:49because you have to play at your highest level for four games in a row
00:46:53to get to the final.
00:46:55And you can see that the guys, they weren't at their highest levels.
00:46:59When you say scared, I don't think it was scared.
00:47:01I think it was more they were just off of it, a step off of it, maybe a little fatigued.
00:47:06You know, it was just something that wasn't there in their performance.
00:47:09At the end of the day, you know, I always take responsibility as a coach.
00:47:14I think it always leads back to the coach.
00:47:16It has to.
00:47:17You know, I was never a fan of blaming the players.
00:47:19If things didn't go well, I always looked at myself first.
00:47:24Coach, do you think there was any consideration given to not starting Balogun,
00:47:31even after the whole incident and everything?
00:47:34Had Pochettino been preparing a game plan without him and then you throw him back in there?
00:47:41Would you have given any consideration at all to just maybe bring him on in the second half
00:47:46or not playing him at all?
00:47:49You know, I think that's one of those Monday morning quarterback type of things.
00:47:54Because, you know, when we look at it afterwards, you'd say, you know,
00:47:58we should have done the morally right thing probably and not play Balogun.
00:48:01You know, it would have probably been a good sign to Belgium.
00:48:06Because I think this whole incident definitely fired Belgium up, right?
00:48:09Yeah.
00:48:10I mean, this got them going.
00:48:11You saw the dance they did after they scored.
00:48:15And to be fair, it's a very unusual decision by FIFA.
00:48:19It's a very strange decision.
00:48:20You don't often see that.
00:48:22But I don't think it's on the coach to say, I'm going to put my best player on the bench
00:48:26because FIFA made a strange decision.
00:48:29I mean, I just, I don't think that's right.
00:48:31You know, he still had, you know, some impact in the game.
00:48:34He was still arguably one of our most dangerous players.
00:48:37And I just don't, I think if FIFA rules that, you know, any coach I think would play him.
00:48:43Yeah.
00:48:43We're looking at the play right now.
00:48:45It's, again, it's a really unfortunate play.
00:48:48It's definitely no intent to foul the guy, but it looks, it looks bad on the video.
00:48:53So obviously the Belgium game will stick with us for a while.
00:48:56Sour taste in our mouths after the World Cup.
00:48:58But you mentioned earlier, when we played Paraguay, there was a sense of euphoria.
00:49:01It wasn't just that we won by a lot.
00:49:03It wasn't just, you know, it was sort of how we played.
00:49:05It just felt like this is like a new era of United States soccer.
00:49:09And people were like so excited.
00:49:10And then obviously Belgium was a little bit of a disaster.
00:49:14So my question to you is now that we've had a few days and the dust has settled a little
00:49:18bit
00:49:18and you look back on this World Cup run from the United States, how should we feel?
00:49:24Because like those of us, me and Big T here, we were talking earlier.
00:49:28It was such a roller coaster.
00:49:29We do ultimately feel a little disappointed because I think like as much as you want to point to like
00:49:34we scored the most goals we've ever scored.
00:49:36We won the most games we've ever won in the World Cup.
00:49:39Ultimately, it is like, all right, 2014, we were right there against Belgium.
00:49:43We had a chance to beat them.
00:49:47We ultimately lose the game.
00:49:49Fast forward 12 years.
00:49:50It feels like we've gotten better.
00:49:51It feels like Belgium's gotten worse.
00:49:53And they beat our brains in on our home soil.
00:49:56So like as we factor all this in, like how should I feel as a United States soccer fan?
00:50:01Should I be optimistic about what this World Cup was or should I be as disappointed as I want to
00:50:05be?
00:50:07You know, back in 2018 when I took the job, you know, the whole thing was about this eight-year
00:50:14window.
00:50:14It was really about captivating the U.S. fan and going farther than any team has ever gone.
00:50:22And it was about giving young players the experience over those eight years so that when they got to this
00:50:27point,
00:50:28they were ready to perform and ready to reach new heights.
00:50:31Now, if you think about the two things in that sentence, we definitely captivated the fans, right?
00:50:37It was an amazing event.
00:50:38I mean, I don't know if you guys went to the games, but it was so fun to just see
00:50:42the people behind the team marching to the stadium.
00:50:44The stadium's packed with U.S. supporters.
00:50:47That was amazing.
00:50:48On the flights, you hear casual people just talking about the U.S. team, right?
00:50:51It was on, you know, it's a sports show, but it was on every other show that's not related to
00:50:56sports, right?
00:50:57The U.S. team at the World Cup.
00:50:58So we definitely captivated the fans.
00:51:00But from a performance standpoint, I said all along that the benchmark is quarterfinals.
00:51:08If we don't make it to the quarterfinals, it's not a success.
00:51:11And by that metric, by that metric only, we would say it wasn't a success.
00:51:17Yeah.
00:51:18Yeah, I mean, look.
00:51:19That's how I feel.
00:51:20It's well said.
00:51:21Yeah, I know.
00:51:21I mean, like Belgium, it's a good, I guess, a bad thing.
00:51:26I don't know.
00:51:26But, like, it's a good barometer that we played Belgium.
00:51:29Because, like I said, like 12 years ago, Belgium was their golden generation.
00:51:32And it felt like that was, like, their moment.
00:51:33And we almost beat them.
00:51:36We should be better.
00:51:37They're a lot worse.
00:51:38You said, Big T.
00:51:39Like, they're not that good.
00:51:40It was not in the gap.
00:51:41Like, for everybody that stumbled into that game and that's their first time watching these teams,
00:51:46the gap is not that large.
00:51:47Yeah.
00:51:47That was all about them being ready for the moment.
00:51:50And, like Coach said, maybe it's a lack of focus.
00:51:52Nine of our 11 guys just did not show up.
00:51:54So, Sebastian Latray, and I do want to ask you more about him in a bit.
00:51:58But first, I want to talk about Christian Pulisic because he's kind of dominated a lot of headlines.
00:52:04And there's been a lot of your former teammates and kind of the old guard coming out and expressing some
00:52:11frustration.
00:52:12Right?
00:52:13I mean, you had Landon Donovan talking about how the people around Pulisic maybe don't treat people around the U
00:52:19.S. Soccer Federation maybe the best.
00:52:23You know, you had Donovan talking about how for him to get taken out of a game, he would have,
00:52:28you know, he would have had to be dead or get his leg amputated.
00:52:31Right?
00:52:32They'd just shoot me up and put me in.
00:52:34We say Clint Dempsey probably would have died on those fields.
00:52:37As someone who's been both player and coach, where do you fall on what you saw out of Pulisic this
00:52:42tournament?
00:52:44I think it's unwarranted.
00:52:46I don't like to hear it.
00:52:48You know, the one thing I know about Christian, and I've worked with a lot of top players, is I
00:52:53haven't seen a top player be such a humble and team guy like Christian Pulisic.
00:52:58Wow.
00:52:58You know, he is not, he does not have the superstar, you know, ego.
00:53:04He's a total team player.
00:53:06You know, I don't know how much you guys know about it, but before every World Cup, he got the
00:53:10entire team gifts of appreciation for their hard work before the World Cup.
00:53:17And he's injured.
00:53:19He's legitimately injured.
00:53:20And, I mean, that's something that, you know, it's so easy for us to sit here and talk negatively about
00:53:26a player without understanding what they're actually going through.
00:53:30If you ask him, was it his best World Cup, he'd say, of course not.
00:53:34You know, he would want to perform better.
00:53:35But to question his lack of effort or lack of caring or lack of determination or even his character, I
00:53:42think, is unwarranted.
00:53:43Because he's a great guy, he's a humble guy, and he cares so much about the team.
00:53:47I think, in a way, guys, it's really people trying to get attention because they know how big of a
00:53:53superstar he is, that they know if they mention his name, you know, they'll get clicks.
00:53:57Interesting.
00:53:58I mean, look, I think that's some excellent perspective, like in kind of a ying to some of the other
00:54:03former players, Yang.
00:54:05Now, take off coach and player hat.
00:54:08Put on dad hat.
00:54:10Because your son had some awesome moments, and really the effort, the heart displayed, even in that Belgium game, was
00:54:18kind of at odds, at least to the casual viewers, what it looked like.
00:54:21He had the great shot, he had the goal before.
00:54:23How was it watching your son in this tournament?
00:54:27You know, it was so nice for the entire family.
00:54:30You know, we had like 30 people at the game supporting him.
00:54:33And just, it's so strange.
00:54:36It's such a strange feeling to see, like, you know, my parents were at the 2002 World Cup, 2006 World
00:54:41Cup.
00:54:42The whole family's at the 2022 World Cup supporting, you know, the team and myself as the coach.
00:54:49And now the whole family's at the event supporting Sebastian.
00:54:52And it's such an amazing feeling.
00:54:54You know, really, yeah, it's incredible.
00:54:57Really proud of him.
00:54:58But I'll tell you what, you know, he's more disappointed than anyone.
00:55:01You know, he's not, you know, forget about any playing time he had.
00:55:05You know, he played in all five games.
00:55:06Forget about all that.
00:55:07He's bitterly disappointed that the team didn't win and that they're not still playing.
00:55:12Should they bring Pochettino back?
00:55:15That's not my decision, you know.
00:55:17I had to ask.
00:55:18I had to ask.
00:55:19One thing I'll say is that, you know, I believe that continuity at times can be good for the squad.
00:55:26You know, it's an odd job.
00:55:30And I don't know how much you guys follow the U.S. men's national team.
00:55:33But, you know, you can't do much right in that role.
00:55:37And I think if the public's behind him and he wants to do it, I would probably bring him back.
00:55:46Because normally, you know, it's just people criticizing, criticizing, criticizing it.
00:55:50And, you know, now there's some calm.
00:55:52You know, I'm all for it.
00:55:55Looking forward to the rest of the tournament now, Coach.
00:55:58We're down to the quarterfinals.
00:56:00Mbappe and that French attack going to be back in action.
00:56:03A rematch of the semifinal from Qatar.
00:56:06What's your kind of read on the rest of the tournament?
00:56:08Like, do you think we have some surprises left in store?
00:56:12Is it going to get a little chalky from here on out?
00:56:14What's your read?
00:56:15So this round is my favorite round of the World Cup because you get just massive matchups, heavyweight matchups.
00:56:23I mean, look at this.
00:56:24Argentina, Switzerland, Norway, England, Spain, Belgium, France, Morocco.
00:56:28And you don't have the caution that you're going to have in the semifinals.
00:56:31The semifinals, everyone's just trying to make the final.
00:56:33But now this is a fun round.
00:56:36And the matchups are good.
00:56:38You have some, you know, slightly smaller nations against powerhouses.
00:56:41You have some Cinderella stories like Norway playing against England.
00:56:46A lot of the players are familiar with the English players because they play in the Premier League.
00:56:51This is going to be amazing.
00:56:53Starting with the game tonight.
00:56:54You know, France, I don't know if I said it last time on the show, but France was my favorite
00:56:58in the tournament.
00:56:58They're still my favorite.
00:57:00But Morocco is tough.
00:57:02Morocco is relentless.
00:57:04And it's going to be a difficult game for France today.
00:57:06I asked the boys earlier, Coach.
00:57:08Erling Haaland, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe.
00:57:11Those three, I mean, there are more great players in this tournament, no question about it.
00:57:15But those are the three that seem to be completely captivating everybody, really.
00:57:20All three of them are playing at the exact same time.
00:57:22And you can only watch one of them play right now in their current form.
00:57:26Which one are you watching?
00:57:28Who is the most exciting of those three for a guy like you to watch?
00:57:33Well, I'm going to watch Mbappe.
00:57:35Excuse me.
00:57:35And it's because he plays for France.
00:57:36And I really think France's whole attack is so dynamic.
00:57:40You know, Norway is good.
00:57:42And Haaland is going to get his goals.
00:57:43But to be fair, he does very little in the game.
00:57:46You know, he has very little impact in the game.
00:57:48Except scoring the goals.
00:57:52Except scoring goals.
00:57:54You're like, wait a second.
00:57:54Is this big guy playing?
00:57:55And then all of a sudden he nets two goals.
00:57:58And Messi, you know, Messi's Messi.
00:58:00You know, I have a ton of respect for him.
00:58:03I think he's the greatest player of all time.
00:58:06But we see him a lot here.
00:58:07So I'm focused on Mbappe.
00:58:09Okay.
00:58:10Can you take us, like, so, because I agree.
00:58:14France, the favorite.
00:58:15They're the 1,000-pound gorilla.
00:58:18Yeah.
00:58:18What is it like game planning for a team like that?
00:58:22And there's Dembele.
00:58:24And there's Elise.
00:58:25And there's Douai.
00:58:26And it's just seemingly endless.
00:58:29Like, if you're in Morocco, what are you doing here?
00:58:32So I think there's a couple different elements to it.
00:58:35I mean, and it's a lot easier said on the show than actually done in real life.
00:58:39So I'm going to say that right off the bat.
00:58:42But you've got to be compact.
00:58:43As soon as you give them space, you're dead.
00:58:46They're too fast.
00:58:47If you see in the game they played against Sweden, you know, as the game opened up, it was over
00:58:52for Sweden.
00:58:53So that's the first thing.
00:58:55The second thing is, when you can try to keep the ball to make some of those guys defend that
00:59:01don't love to defend, you have to do that.
00:59:04You know, Elise is an amazing player.
00:59:06He doesn't love defending.
00:59:08And Bappe doesn't love defending.
00:59:09So if you can keep the ball, unsettle them a little bit, it's good.
00:59:14The difficulty, though, is going to be how you break through their defense.
00:59:17Because they still have, you know, really strong guys in the back line that it's hard to actually get through
00:59:22and score.
00:59:23Is there a team that when you look at the rest of this quarterfinals, is there a team that you
00:59:27believe is best positioned to accomplish those goals?
00:59:31Morocco.
00:59:32Morocco, I think, is the team.
00:59:34Yeah.
00:59:34Damn.
00:59:34Because they've done it before.
00:59:37They play very compact.
00:59:38They're going to be very low in a 4-5-1 most likely today, not giving up a lot of
00:59:42space.
00:59:44I think the boy being, Sabari being injured up top is going to hurt them.
00:59:47Yeah.
00:59:48Because they don't have counterattacking speed.
00:59:50But, you know, it will be a very dangerous team for France.
00:59:55And the other part of it is a lot of those players are French-born from Morocco.
00:59:59You know, so there's going to be a ton of, like, tension, national tension and pride going into that game.
01:00:04Yeah, I mean, we didn't talk about it.
01:00:05But, I mean, you're looking at France occupying Morocco for basically the first half of the 20th century.
01:00:11So, yeah, some major geopolitical history and motivation there.
01:00:16Coach, so soccer's in the air right now.
01:00:18Everybody's been getting on board.
01:00:19A lot of people come and do it.
01:00:20The numbers are absolutely insane.
01:00:23You're the head of the Chicago Fire.
01:00:26And you all just got a massive signing, dude.
01:00:29Robert Lewandowski going to be heading to Chicago.
01:00:31The first game back is next Thursday, July 16th.
01:00:36How are we feeling?
01:00:36What do you want to tell everybody out there?
01:00:39I think it's amazing not only for the city of Chicago and the Chicago Fire.
01:00:43I think it's amazing for Major League Soccer.
01:00:45Yeah.
01:00:45You know, to have a player of that stature play in.
01:00:48You know, when you're talking about Mbappe, Holland, and Messi, you know, the next name down the line is Robert
01:00:55Lewandowski.
01:00:55You know, there's not many players who have scored – actually, there's no players that have scored more goals in
01:01:00the top five leagues in the last 15 years than Robert Lewandowski.
01:01:04Oh, wow.
01:01:04I didn't realize that.
01:01:05Wow.
01:01:06Yeah.
01:01:06He is an absolute killer in front of goal.
01:01:10So, to have him in the league, to have him in the city, you know, we're so excited.
01:01:14We hope he makes his debut.
01:01:15We're counting on him making his debut next Thursday against Vancouver Whitecaps.
01:01:19And really just excited to see how the city embraces him.
01:01:22You know, this is top-level player here that we're getting.
01:01:26Like, what was going through your heart and head when you maybe started to sniff that this deal was coming
01:01:32around?
01:01:33Like, did you try to not get hopeful until the ink was dry?
01:01:38Exactly.
01:01:39Like, people are like, oh, congrats.
01:01:40It's done.
01:01:40I'm like, guys, it's not done until we have signed it yet.
01:01:44I'll start celebrating it.
01:01:46But, I mean, when we finally had the paper signed, it was an amazing moment.
01:01:49We worked, you know, probably for 18 months on this deal.
01:01:52Damn.
01:01:53Yeah, it was a long time.
01:01:55We were getting deal fatigue a little bit with that one.
01:01:58But we stayed the course and we got it done.
01:02:01And, you know, it really has to do with our owner, Joe Montsueto, a really supportive owner.
01:02:06Was determined to get this done and is determined to build a world-class club for the city of Chicago.
01:02:12Well, I can't wait.
01:02:13It's a really exciting time.
01:02:15Again, guys, next Thursday, July 16.
01:02:16Hope that Lewandowski is going to make his Chicago Fire debut there.
01:02:19Coach Berhalter, thank you so much, man.
01:02:21Incredible insight.
01:02:22Very generous with your time.
01:02:24You have an excellent day, man.
01:02:25Thanks, Coach.
01:02:26Awesome thing, you guys.
01:02:27See you.
01:02:27See you, sir.
01:02:28Talk to you again soon, hopefully, as this World Cup rolls on.
01:02:31Interesting that he's in Morocco.
01:02:32Best.
01:02:33Yeah.
01:02:33Best placed of any of these teams.
01:02:35Let's go.
01:02:36Big one coming up today, boys.
01:02:38Coming up next, it's time for Jerry to don the robe and gavel.
01:02:43As Judge Jerry is going to adjudicate some of our most important societal issues.
01:02:48And then we got Doug McIntyre coming on to talk to U.S. Soccer later.
01:02:54So, throughout this tournament, we've been joined by Fox Sports' Doug McIntyre.
01:02:59He's been embedded with his U.S. Men's National Team.
01:03:02And he had an article titled,
01:03:04For U.S. Soccer, hiring Mauricio Panchatino was a coup, bringing him back, being defensible.
01:03:09And listen to this.
01:03:10Quote,
01:03:10Had the 54-year-old overseen this sort of capitulation that he did on Monday with his national team,
01:03:16he's from Argentina,
01:03:17At a World Cup coasted in his home country,
01:03:20he would have been fired before leaving the stadium.
01:03:23It would be the same in Brazil or France or Germany or any of the other nations whose success
01:03:28the U.S.A. hopes to one day emulate.
01:03:31Let's bring Doug in.
01:03:33Doug, that is a take that is a little spicy, a little hot.
01:03:36It is making the rounds.
01:03:39What has been your,
01:03:42you believe that Mauricio Panchatino is not the man to leave this team into the next cycle?
01:03:48We'll see how anyone could think that he would be after what we just saw on Monday night.
01:03:53I mean, you had the benefit of playing in a World Cup at home.
01:03:57You are a seeded team, something that is not going to happen if you're not a host country,
01:04:02unless you're one of the very best teams in the world, which the U.S. isn't.
01:04:06And, you know, for me, the bare minimum for this team was to get to a quarterfinal.
01:04:10The expectations are higher when you bring in a coach with the resume that Mauricio Panchatino had.
01:04:16He was supposed to be better.
01:04:18He was expected to do better.
01:04:20And instead of doing better, he did worse than, you know, any of his predecessors in around a 16 game.
01:04:26I mean, the U.S. team has lost three times in a World Cup since 1990 by three goals or
01:04:33more.
01:04:34And one was in 1990 in their first game back from the World Cup in 40 years after a 40
01:04:39-year absence.
01:04:39One was in the first group game in 2006.
01:04:42And the third one was on Monday night.
01:04:45So if you think it's going to get better in four years where now you're going to be playing in
01:04:49Morocco or Spain or Portugal
01:04:52and you're not going to have a home crowd behind you, the core of this team is all going to
01:04:57be over 30 years old.
01:04:59Christian Pulisic, Wester McKinney, Tyler Adams, this golden generation we've all been talking about.
01:05:04And by the way, they obviously deserve their share of the blame and they're getting it.
01:05:08But for U.S. soccer to come out 12 hours after that humiliation that 44 million Americans watched
01:05:15and everyone saw that that team was not ready to play in that game, they weren't ready.
01:05:20That's on the coach.
01:05:22There's no way Mauricio Pochettino should come back and be given another chance.
01:05:26He's out of contract.
01:05:27So for U.S. soccer to say right after that happened, we're considering bringing him back, I just I don't
01:05:33understand it.
01:05:35And yeah, what I wrote the article is true.
01:05:37I mean, we saw we see the heat that Carlo Ancelotti is getting in Brazil after his team was knocked
01:05:43out by a goal in the World Cup round of 16.
01:05:48Right. He was that's a long term project.
01:05:51He had already signed an extension and everyone in that country is calling for his head.
01:05:55Julian Nagelsmann, right, gets Germany back to the knockout stage for the first time since Germany wins a World Cup.
01:06:01His team loses on penalties and he resigns.
01:06:04I mean, this is what happens at the highest level.
01:06:06You can't say you want to compete with the top countries in the world and you're just going to say,
01:06:11yeah, that was fine.
01:06:12What we saw on Monday. It wasn't fine. It wasn't even close.
01:06:14The team was not competitive in that game.
01:06:17And like I said, you don't necessarily have to win that game.
01:06:20I think if, you know, it was a hard fought game, the U.S. loses like by a goal or
01:06:26you lose on penalties or there's a call that doesn't go your way.
01:06:29Whatever. I think most Americans, most of those 44 million people, the most that have ever watched the soccer game
01:06:36in the history of our country could say, all right, that's fine.
01:06:39But to get your asses kicked on that stage, right, and then say, let's run it back is just, it's
01:06:48crazy to me.
01:06:49I don't even begin to understand how we're even having that conversation.
01:06:53I think it's a fair point.
01:06:54And I think like in what other sport would we tolerate an American coach getting humiliated?
01:06:59And it's not like, I mean, we did get to heights that we haven't gotten to in the sense that
01:07:05we've won more games and we scored more goals and all that.
01:07:07But at the same time, it is an expanded World Cup.
01:07:09And I think like, you know, we lose in the round of 16 by three.
01:07:12I'm kind of with you, Doug.
01:07:13I will like play devil's advocate a little bit here.
01:07:17I'm not in your mentions.
01:07:18I haven't looked at your mentions.
01:07:19Like I imagine you have.
01:07:20I haven't either.
01:07:21Yeah.
01:07:22So I imagine a lot of the pushback you might be getting is like, even if all the points you're
01:07:26making are true,
01:07:27there is also an element when you're the head coach of the United States Mid-National Team,
01:07:32like part of the job is to sort of galvanize the country, get people behind this team,
01:07:37because it is, we do unfortunately live in a soccer country that oftentimes people only pop in every four years
01:07:44or, you know, they're not really, they don't have the obsession that these other countries that you mentioned have.
01:07:52Pochettino kind of did that, did he not?
01:07:53Like in fairness, like it's galvanizing the country and getting, is there anything to be said about like the vibes?
01:08:00Should vibes factor in at all?
01:08:01That like people, you did say that this is the most watched World Cup game.
01:08:05Yeah.
01:08:05The most watched soccer game.
01:08:07Now, a lot of that is because we're hosting it on American soil.
01:08:09But like, does that matter to you that like, quote unquote, it feels different this time?
01:08:15I mean, so this team didn't beat anyone it wasn't supposed to.
01:08:19It didn't beat a team that it was better than.
01:08:21Like, you want a cookie for beating Australia, Paraguay, and Bosnia at a home World Cup?
01:08:27You're supposed to do that.
01:08:29Like, do we celebrate teams that have great regular seasons and then get blown out in the second round of
01:08:34the playoffs?
01:08:35No, of course not.
01:08:36It doesn't matter how you start, right?
01:08:38Like, they won a group.
01:08:40Big deal.
01:08:41They've won a group before.
01:08:42They've won harder groups in the past, right?
01:08:44Bob Bradley won a group in 2010 that included England.
01:08:47Hell yeah.
01:08:48Bob Bradley beat Spain in a Confederations Cup semi-final, right?
01:08:53A competitive game.
01:08:54The best team in history, by the way, was that Spanish national team.
01:08:57Broke a 30-something game unbeaten streak that they had, right?
01:09:01Mm-hmm.
01:09:02Mauricio Pochettino didn't beat one team he wasn't supposed to in his entire tenure.
01:09:05And again, this is a guy who's brought in to be better than anyone that had come before him.
01:09:10That was – and the expectations were raised.
01:09:13I mean, you talk about why not us and we're going to do something special and all this stuff.
01:09:16And when push came to shove in the game he was hired to win, again, they laid the biggest egg
01:09:23imaginable.
01:09:24Like, the credibility of the U.S. men's national team was damaged in that game in front of the whole
01:09:30country.
01:09:30I mean, I understand people saying, what – if we can't win that game on that stage in arguably the
01:09:36best soccer city in the country,
01:09:37what chance do we have going forward?
01:09:40And that's a fair question.
01:09:41And it's not fair because a coach's job is to get the best out of his players.
01:09:45And that didn't happen in this game.
01:09:48So, I mean, again, like, it's – it doesn't – what you did in the group stage doesn't matter, right?
01:09:56So –
01:09:57You want to – you beat a Bosnian team, you're supposed to beat that team in the round of 32
01:10:02at home.
01:10:03You're supposed to win those games.
01:10:05What you were hired to do is do something you weren't supposed to do.
01:10:08Do something different.
01:10:09Do something better.
01:10:11And, again, that didn't happen.
01:10:12And the U.S. team has won a round of 16 game before.
01:10:16You know, they did it almost a quarter of a century ago with less talent on a World Cup that
01:10:20was played on the other side of the world.
01:10:22So, I don't care at all what they did in the group stage.
01:10:26What – the business end of the tournament is what matters for every serious team in the World Cup.
01:10:32And the U.S. wants to be a serious team, then that's the conversation that we have to have.
01:10:37I throw that all out.
01:10:38Like, I wrote – and by the way, this is not reactionary.
01:10:41I wrote all this in the lead-up to the game.
01:10:43This is the game.
01:10:44He did say that on the show.
01:10:45Argentina was hired to win.
01:10:47Yeah.
01:10:47It was that game.
01:10:48And not only did they not win it, they were played off the field by, for my money, the worst
01:10:55team that's still in this World Cup.
01:10:57Like, Belgium is not a great team.
01:10:59Like, you could argue maybe they're better than Switzerland.
01:11:02It's not France.
01:11:04Right?
01:11:04We're not talking about France.
01:11:05We're not talking about Argentina.
01:11:07We're not talking about the top contenders.
01:11:09We're not talking about a team like Norway that has the best striker in the entire world.
01:11:15Right?
01:11:16Or England that has Harry Kane.
01:11:17We're not – by the way, four years ago in Qatar, right, the U.S. – and England were the
01:11:22world – one of the World Cup favorites.
01:11:24And they didn't score on the U.S.
01:11:26The U.S. tied them.
01:11:27Right?
01:11:28The round of 16 loss to the Netherlands in Qatar, which was a two-goal loss, was not as bad
01:11:34as this.
01:11:35And again, you don't have the benefit of playing at home.
01:11:37I don't care what they did in the group stage.
01:11:40I don't care what they did in the round of 32.
01:11:42This is where a coach has to earn his money, and it didn't happen in that game.
01:11:48And there's – you know, the proof was there for everybody to see.
01:11:51Like, I don't know what else there is to say, guys.
01:11:53Like, it's – you know –
01:11:54It's kind of convincing me.
01:11:57I thought I disagreed coming in, and now I think I might agree.
01:12:01But I will just say, big picture, he gets hired, what, a year and a half before the World Cup,
01:12:10comes in to fix a culture that's pretty broken, a team that was – didn't get out of the group
01:12:15stage in Copa America
01:12:16where you lost to Panama, and, like, things were in disarray of sorts.
01:12:21And like Mark said, he did kind of – like, we were fun to watch, like – and we didn't
01:12:28beat any European teams, I guess,
01:12:29on the – Bosnia, whatever.
01:12:31Bosnia, one out of eight.
01:12:32Right.
01:12:33One out of eight tries during that time, yeah.
01:12:35But I do still kind of feel like, unless I can be convinced that we're going to go out there
01:12:41and get somebody awesome,
01:12:43like, if Pep Guardiola wants this job, sign me up.
01:12:47I do kind of feel like if Pochettino got one full cycle, you know, four years to do this with
01:12:54a Copa America and Gold Cups and whatever,
01:12:56like, maybe it would be better.
01:12:59I don't know.
01:13:02I don't know either.
01:13:03And, again, like, all we know is what we saw.
01:13:07Second cycles generally don't go as well, right, as the first.
01:13:11We've seen it with this U.S. team, right?
01:13:13Bruce Arena gets to the quarterfinals 2002, doesn't get out of the group in 2006.
01:13:18Bob Bradley, successful World Cup.
01:13:20Again, won a World Cup group in 2010, narrowly lost in the round of 16, right?
01:13:26He, by the way, U.S. soccer would have hired Jürgen Klinsmann then if they could.
01:13:30They couldn't.
01:13:31They give him another year, and then he gets fired a year later after losing a Gold Cup final to
01:13:35Mexico.
01:13:35Jürgen Klinsmann was extended before the World Cup.
01:13:38He gets out of the most difficult group in that World Cup that included eventual champions Germany,
01:13:45Portugal with prime Cristiano Ronaldo, and a gata team that had beaten the U.S.
01:13:50that the last, you know, the last two World Cups they played in, three World Cups, actually, right?
01:13:55Three?
01:13:57You know, anyway, like, you look at that draw, it's a nightmare draw.
01:14:00They get out of that, they get out of that group.
01:14:04So, I mean, again, I just don't think, like, it's a fair question, like, who comes in and can be
01:14:10better?
01:14:10Well, you know, no foreign coach has ever won the World Cup with, like, with a national team.
01:14:15That's never happened.
01:14:15But every World Cup winning coach came from that country that won.
01:14:19And I'm not saying that, you know, you have, like, if you can get Pep Guardiola, of course you go
01:14:23and get him.
01:14:24Right?
01:14:25But, like, I do think there's a learning curve.
01:14:27I do think that, you know, that that learning curve hurt Pochettino.
01:14:31Like, he had to get up to speed quickly, and that's fair.
01:14:36But he thought from the start, you know, I'll have enough time to get the guys into camp
01:14:40and to go out and, you know, and compete with any team in the world.
01:14:45And that just didn't happen.
01:14:46I mean, he was outcoached in that game by Belgium, right?
01:14:50What had made the U.S. successful in the group stage and against Bosnia was they were able to press
01:14:55teams to death.
01:14:56They were aggressive, and they were able to overwhelm teams early.
01:15:00And Belgium made one tweak, and they bypassed that pressure up front over the top,
01:15:07and there was no adjustments that were made in that game.
01:15:09Like, there was no – there were no answers.
01:15:12So, you know, again, I don't see how you could think it's going to be better going forward when you
01:15:17had every advantage in this one.
01:15:19Doug, what about this?
01:15:21Because you're making very fair points.
01:15:23Where's your energy at for Christian Pulisic?
01:15:26We saw what Donovan and Tim Howard said.
01:15:29Yeah.
01:15:29Greg Berhalter we just had on.
01:15:31He kind of pushed back against it, saying maybe that's a bit of a clip farming.
01:15:35Where do you stand at with Pulisic?
01:15:37Look, he didn't have a good World Cup, and he's going to get criticism for that.
01:15:41These guys – these guys will never live that failure down.
01:15:45This was their big chance on home soil.
01:15:48You know, Christian Pulisic, we know that he skipped the Gold Cup last year.
01:15:51It's been said to death.
01:15:53And the sad part for me is, like, he played really well.
01:15:56In the first game, he was superb.
01:15:58He helped set up the first two goals.
01:16:00He goes off injured.
01:16:01You know, I think that hurt him the rest of the tournament.
01:16:04But, yeah, it was a terrible performance for every single player on that team.
01:16:08Tyler Adams said it after.
01:16:09Right?
01:16:09There wasn't one player in that game that played well.
01:16:13And so you can point the finger at Christian Pulisic.
01:16:16I think, you know, as the face of the program, he's going to take that heat.
01:16:20All these guys are going to take – they are taking that heat.
01:16:23But I think they were set up to fail in the game.
01:16:25You know, they deserve criticism.
01:16:27They're going to get the criticism.
01:16:29That's how that works.
01:16:32I've got to interject real quickly here because I do want to ask you about
01:16:39Landon Donovan kind of intimated that maybe with everybody surrounding the team,
01:16:44that there's a bit of frustration with Pulisic's camp.
01:16:47Like, no, you can't interview him.
01:16:48No, you can't talk to him.
01:16:49You're surrounding this team.
01:16:51Have you felt that?
01:16:53Like, do you agree with Donovan's assertion there?
01:16:56I do.
01:16:56I do.
01:16:57I mean, the part about, you know, walking past the commentator is not saying hello.
01:17:01I mean, part of that is just Christian's personality, I think.
01:17:04He's super introverted.
01:17:07He's just not an outgoing guy.
01:17:09His teammates will tell you that.
01:17:10Like, he doesn't say a lot, even around them.
01:17:13So, you know, again, criticizing his personality, like, that's one thing.
01:17:19And when you have a setback like this, a disappointment, everything is fair game.
01:17:25But, you know, I think what you look at is the performance on the field, right?
01:17:29Like, if he scores two goals, no one cares if he's not giving interviews.
01:17:33I would like to do more interviews.
01:17:34I wish he would talk more.
01:17:36I don't know that he's always gotten the best advice.
01:17:38I don't think he's the only one on that team that's true for.
01:17:40But, yes, I don't disagree with Landon on those points.
01:17:44I do think that it's just, it's something where he's just not comfortable with that side of it.
01:17:49He's never been, and he's always admitted it.
01:17:52And, yeah, he didn't have a great World Cup.
01:17:55He didn't score.
01:17:56Those are the facts.
01:17:58And, you know, how much the other stuff, off the field stuff, impacted that, I don't think it did.
01:18:03I don't think that's the reason why he didn't do well.
01:18:07And, again, when you don't do well, everyone's fair game, right?
01:18:10Every player on that team is fair game.
01:18:12The coach is fair game as well.
01:18:13Very quickly, Doug, are the chances we can get Pep 0% or not 0%?
01:18:21There's always a chance, right?
01:18:23Like, you're saying there's a chance.
01:18:24He's out of work.
01:18:27Here's what we know, guys.
01:18:28Loves New York.
01:18:30Loves New York.
01:18:30He loves America.
01:18:32He loves a challenge.
01:18:34This would certainly be a challenge.
01:18:36He said he's never going to coach at the club level again.
01:18:39Right?
01:18:39So now, yeah, I think, you know, if you talk about national teams that can afford to pay him what
01:18:46he would cost, I think the U.S. can do that.
01:18:49Mauricio Pachetino, one of the best paid national team coaches in the world.
01:18:52Pep would cost more, but he's worth it.
01:18:54I think if you can get him, you at least have to take a shot.
01:18:58You have to take a shot to see if he's interested.
01:19:00Otherwise, I mean, where does he go?
01:19:02Maybe England, if they don't win the World Cup under Thomas Tuchel, that would be a big challenge.
01:19:07Does he want to coach the Spanish national team?
01:19:10He's Cazalan.
01:19:11There's some, you know, maybe he doesn't want to do that.
01:19:14So there's really, like, where else would he go?
01:19:16Serious question.
01:19:17How do, what can I do to help?
01:19:19Like, is this, like, college sports, you can, like, donate money.
01:19:22Like, what are the financials of this?
01:19:24Are the billionaires still invested?
01:19:26Do we have boosters?
01:19:27Do we, like, how do we get this?
01:19:28We do have boosters.
01:19:29We got Pachetino.
01:19:30Like, but do they still have the appetite to pay?
01:19:32Like, would they have the appetite to pay for Pep?
01:19:35Well, for Pep, yes.
01:19:37There's no question about it.
01:19:38Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
01:19:39I want to pay.
01:19:39A dollar from every American.
01:19:41Who do I?
01:19:42We'll start a go fund me.
01:19:43We'll get Pep.
01:19:44Okay.
01:19:45Yeah.
01:19:45Yeah.
01:19:46All right, Doug.
01:19:48Perfect plan.
01:19:49Thank you so much, Doug McIntyre, guys.
01:19:51Check out his work on Fox Sports.
01:19:52He's been fantastic on the tournament.
01:19:53Joining us.
01:19:54We'll talk to you down the road, Doug.
01:19:55Thank you so much.
01:19:56Thank you, guys.
01:19:57Thanks, Doug.
01:19:58All right, wrapping up the show next.
01:20:00I mean, Doug, that was.
01:20:01I think I hate Pachetino now.
01:20:02Yeah.
01:20:03I hate that guy.
01:20:04That's hard logic to argue with, man.
01:20:07I'd close out the show next year on FS1.
01:20:16All-Star.
01:20:16I get very nostalgic ties with All-Star Week, right, as a kid?
01:20:20Oh, yeah.
01:20:20Because it's always like 4th July.
01:20:21You're out for the summer.
01:20:23You're probably waking up watching highlights.
01:20:25You're like playing catch in the yard, doing diving catches and whatnot.
01:20:28I'm excited for this.
01:20:30We're back to the regular uniforms, right?
01:20:32Did they go back to that last year?
01:20:33Oh, I'm like probably the least uniformed guy we got.
01:20:36You're asking maybe the wrong person.
01:20:37I forget.
01:20:38I have no idea.
01:20:39That needs to happen.
01:20:40Production, can we get a check on that?
01:20:42What's your reaction to this?
01:20:43Justin Verlander is going to be honored at the All-Star Game.
01:20:46He announces that he is retiring.
01:20:48He now gets the All-Star Legend pick, honoring his 21 years.
01:20:52What is it, three Cy Youngs, two World Series in Houston.
01:20:57He's going to be a Hall of Famer.
01:20:59This is well-earned, and I like this.
01:21:01I like this legend thing where maybe a guy, you know, he's dealing with injury,
01:21:04not playing at an All-Star level, but he's definitely earned the right
01:21:07to go to this All-Star Game at his last year.
01:21:10It's fine.
01:21:11As long as in history's eye, it does not count as an All-Star appearance,
01:21:17but it will.
01:21:18Yeah, it should, though.
01:21:19You can get a...
01:21:21Well, listen, I don't have a problem with it because the All-Star selection
01:21:24system has already make-a-wish to begin with.
01:21:26I mean, like, the Royals get a guy.
01:21:29Like, it's communism.
01:21:31It's the Communist All-Star Game.
01:21:33Everyone gets a...
01:21:33So, whatever.
01:21:34It's fine.
01:21:36Michael Harris, not in the All-Star Game, hitting .305, but we got, you know...
01:21:40It is weird that All-Stars matter so much on resumes.
01:21:45Like, when guys are done, you look back at...
01:21:47Because all it really means is that you were good for one half of a season.
01:21:50Right.
01:21:50The one half that matters the least.
01:21:51Oh, I've never considered that.
01:21:53That it really...
01:21:54In all the sports, it's like he was a nine-time All-Star, which is good.
01:21:58Listen, that's better than being a zero-time All-Star, no question about it.
01:22:01But, like, wouldn't it be better to be a nine-time, like, All-Pro?
01:22:05I mean, All-Pro...
01:22:06Again, I always think about football.
01:22:07All-Pro is the actual crazy...
01:22:09Exactly, yeah.
01:22:10Pro Bowl...
01:22:11Pro Bowl now is...
01:22:12Now is a joke.
01:22:13Well, now they do the All-MLB team at the end of the year, and that should be what...
01:22:18Yeah, that's what matters.
01:22:19Yeah, that's what All-Pro is.
01:22:20But they just started doing that very recently.
01:22:22Yeah.
01:22:23It's like All-NBA.
01:22:24Like, yeah, that should matter a little bit more.
01:22:26But I fall into the same track.
01:22:27You look up a guy, and he's like a 15-time All-Star, and you're like, that's, I mean,
01:22:30phew, one of the goats, but maybe he sucked in the second half of the season.
01:22:35Yeah, I know.
01:22:35But then again, I mean, but, you know, at the same time, it's going to be tough to find
01:22:39a 15-time All-Star that wasn't, like, you know, pretty badass and awesome.
01:22:43So we've got Home Run Derby coming up Monday.
01:22:45That's going to be exciting in the All-Star game.
01:22:47Do they go back to the 10 outs or no?
01:22:50What's that?
01:22:50It swings now.
01:22:52It swings now.
01:22:53Which, why not do the outs?
01:22:54Just do the outs.
01:22:54Make it switch.
01:22:55This was never a problem until they started hitting too many home runs, and then they're like,
01:22:59it lasts too long.
01:23:00Oh, when I tune into the Home Run hitting show, I don't mind that they hit home runs
01:23:05for a long time.
01:23:06You know, give me a break.
01:23:08Doug in the North, should Wubb consider a no-shorts or minimum inseamly policy?
01:23:12I didn't wear shorts today.
01:23:14Tightest testicles.
01:23:15This is Chef Dottie's burner count.
01:23:17Yeah.
01:23:18So, a man turned on by my testicles.
01:23:22Look, no, we are a shorts, we are a leg forward program.
01:23:27Yeah.
01:23:28You want to show a little thigh?
01:23:29It's the summer.
01:23:30Yeah, exactly.
01:23:31It's the time to do it.
01:23:32Okay, guys?
01:23:33Hey, thank you to everybody who joined us today.
01:23:34Thank you so much, Coach Berhalter, Doug McIntyre for stopping by.
01:23:37Thank you, boys, here in the panel as well.
01:23:38Thank you, Jerry, for solving our toughest societal issues here in the Judge segment.
01:23:43We love you.
01:23:43We'll see you for more Wake Up Our Soul.
01:23:45To close out the week tomorrow,
01:23:46Bye-bye.
01:23:47We'll see you next time.
01:23:49We'll see you next time.
01:23:50We'll see you next time.
