Trump's ICE COVER-UP Exposed? Representative Al Green delivers a fiery speech demanding a full, independent investigation into the death of Mr. Salgado, warning that without transparency, a "grave injustice" and potential cover-up could occur.

During the press conference, Green calls for the immediate release of body camera footage, urges public hearings, and reveals that he has sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security demanding an independent investigation. He also says Congress should withhold additional ICE funding unless agents wear operational body cameras at all times.

00:00We, the members of Congress, refused to sign off on any additional funding to ICE until they agreed that they
00:09would have body cameras on and operable at all times.
00:13Body camera is absolutely necessary.
00:16That we must protect against a cover-up in ICE.
00:19ICE has got to go.
00:21I am here to say that ICE needs to leave this community until we get some information about what happened.
00:29ICE is out.
00:31We are in.
00:32We, the people, demand justice.
00:34We must have a thorough, complete, transparent investigation before there can be accountability.
00:42There must be such an investigation.
00:44There ought to be an amen to that.
00:45Amen.
00:46We must not only have it, we must have a hearing so that the public can see and hear as
00:53much evidence as is available, especially body camera footage.
00:59There ought to be some body camera footage.
01:02I have not been here to hear all of the other speakers, but I do want to know that there
01:07is body camera footage.
01:08If there is not, then you will understand why we, the members of Congress, refused to sign off on any
01:16additional funding to ICE until they agreed that they would have body cameras on and operable at all times.
01:25Body camera is absolutely necessary.
01:27I also, as a member of Homeland Security, will conduct my own investigation.
01:34I'm not going to wait on HPD.
01:37I'm not going to wait on any member of the constabulary.
01:40It's time for we, the people, to take things into our own hands and conduct our own investigation.
01:48I'm always proud to be in the company of my colleague, Sylvia Garcia.
01:53She and I work well together.
01:55This happened in her congressional district.
01:57I will always yield to her for consent and advice.
02:01We will work together.
02:02But I have sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security.
02:07It's out there now.
02:09You'll see a copy of it.
02:11I sent a letter.
02:12And I'm just going to read one statement from that letter that we sent to Homeland Security.
02:17One paragraph.
02:18It's important.
02:19One statement.
02:20It reads,
02:21The public and the family members of Mr. Soldado Araujo have a right to know what happened by way of
02:29an independent investigation.
02:31Absent such an investigation, these are the words of importance.
02:36After such an investigation, a grave injustice may occur and there may be a cover-up.
02:48We cannot allow a cover-up to take place.
02:51We know what happened to others.
02:53We understand that other persons have been harmed.
02:56We know what happened to Ms. Goode.
02:58We have a duty, a responsibility, and an obligation to prevent a cover-up.
03:02We don't know what happened.
03:04But we do know that we cannot depend on ICE to give us credible information.
03:09And as a result of their lack of credibility, there has to be an assumption that we must protect against
03:16a cover-up in ICE.
03:18ICE has got to go.
03:20So, I am here to say that ICE needs to lead this community until we get some information about what
03:27happened.
03:28ICE is out.
03:29We are in.
03:31We the people demand justice.
03:33Amen.
03:33We the people.
03:34So, guys.
03:35Finally.
03:36Finally.
03:37I'm sorry I'm going too long.
03:38No, no, no.
03:39Hey, this is important.
03:42You don't have to apologize.
03:43I have to thank you, Johnny.
03:45No.
03:46Hey.
03:47Come on, Dr.
03:48I have to thank you.
03:50And I had some great distance to traverse to get here this morning.
03:54It was not something that I could simply get in the car and come over.
03:58But I did.
03:59And I want to thank you.
04:00But I also want to let the family members know that you have a friend in Congress.
04:06You have friends in Congress.
04:08We the members of Congress are going to stand by you and stand with you.
04:13We the members of Congress are going to make sure that we demand, not ask.
04:18We don't have to ask.
04:20We can demand.
04:21We can demand a thorough investigation.
04:24And I want you to know that sympathies and prayers are good.
04:29But it's not enough.
04:31It's time for us to get beyond the prayers and sympathies after people have been killed.
04:35It's time for us to demand justice.
04:38And that's what we will demand and that's what we will get.
04:41There will be justice.
04:42I thank you.
