00:00David Stearns had multiple options for manager when he was doing the managerial process.
00:05Of course, Craig Council was the big name that many, including the Mets, were really
00:09clinging on to, especially given David's ties to Craig during their time in Milwaukee together.
00:14Now, Craig didn't seem like he wanted to hit that type of market, and it made sense that
00:18he didn't have to go far from Milwaukee to Chicago, where the media still isn't the same
00:22level of pressure, at least not in baseball right now.
00:24You can make arguments about different sports.
00:26And he became the highest paid manager in Major League Baseball, so big deal.
00:31But you go with Carlos Mendoza, who, yes, the track record wasn't terrible.
00:35I didn't hate the move when it happened.
00:36I was excited because you're optimistic about something new.
00:38It's the new shiny toy, right?
00:40What are you going to do with it?
00:41But my concern really is just more so on just the lack of ability to adjust.
00:46It did not take long for us to notice that Carlos Mendoza struggled as a new first-time
00:52manager to make proper adjustments when things were going to arrive in season.
00:56Just like David Stearns falling short on making in-season adjustments.
01:00And I do not fault at all Mendoza, where David Stearns messed up with building and constructing
01:06a poor roster.
01:07So I understand that that's probably why you think it's as harsh as it is.
01:11That is part of my reason why I do think that.
01:12But for me, I view both things, one goes in hand with the other.
01:16This is a collective effort of a failure for the team.
01:19And when you go over a counter-year straight of being the worst team in Major League Baseball,
01:24I'm sorry.
01:25To suggest that that is not going to fall at all on the manager's shoulders, when you
01:31have some personalities and talents on this roster in the clubhouse and weren't able
01:35to maybe bring them or mesh them greater together than what you did.
01:38It's not that Mendoza did anything inherently wrong, but just things that he missed the mark
01:43on as a manager.
