President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will move to lift sanctions on Turkey imposed after Ankara purchased Russia's S-400 missile defense system. During his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Trump also said the U.S. would consider selling F-35 stealth fighter jets to Turkey, signaling a major shift in U.S.-Turkey relations.

The sanctions, imposed under CAATSA, led to Turkey's removal from the F-35 program. Now, with Trump signaling a policy reversal, questions are growing over whether Turkey could soon rejoin the program and reshape NATO's military balance.

Will Turkey get the F-35 after years of tensions? What does this mean for NATO, Russia, and the future of U.S.-Turkey defense ties? Here's everything you need to know.

00:45I can tell you, we're going to be taking the sanctions off, okay?
00:50I don't want him to waste his time answering that question because we're working very closely
00:55with Marco Rubio, a very famous man, great Secretary of State, and with Scott Bassett, and with
01:03Pete and everybody else.
01:05We're going to be taking the sanctions off.
01:06It's time to do that, okay?
01:12We don't want to sanction friends.
01:14It's very simple.
01:15There's plenty of people we can sanction, and we are sanctioned.
01:18We don't want to sanction friends.
01:20And because of the President, you know, we have a very good relationship with the
01:26new leader of Syria, and he's done an amazing job.
01:29In a year and a half, he's pulled the whole country together.
01:32And I have a very great relationship with him.
01:34And somebody said, well, he's pretty rough to put him there.
01:37I approved him along with the President.
01:39We were the two that really wanted him, and he's done a great job.
01:43He's done a great job.
01:44He's pulled it together.
01:46Not an easy job.
01:48Mr. President, are you going to sell F-35s to Turkey, and what about the legal restrictions?
01:53Well, it's a decision we're going to make.
01:58We have a very good relationship.
02:00I would think that many people, I can tell you, many people, including the people sitting
02:06right here, thinks, you know, why wouldn't we do that?
02:08We have a better relationship with Turkey, and Turkey has been, in many ways, much more
02:12loyal than other countries that we think would be loyal.
02:16So, yeah, it's something certainly we would consider.
02:19It's a great plane.
02:20It's the best, currently the best plane by far.
02:25And it's certainly something we will consider.
02:28Yeah.
02:28Mr. President, sir.
02:29Yes.
02:30Daniel, please.
02:43You never know why a relationship is special.
02:48Some people you get along with, and some people you don't.
02:53Sometimes you get along with the toughest people, like him.
02:57And sometimes you don't get along with the weakest, most pathetic people.
03:01You just don't get along.
03:03Maybe you don't respect them.
03:04But I, you know, from the day we met, we got along.
03:10We had a pastor.
03:12As I remember, his name was Pastor Brunson, and it was a very big thing.
03:17And it was very traumatic.
03:20He was sentenced to a long-term prison sentence.
03:23And I felt he was innocent, and I called.
03:27Other people called.
03:28They got nowhere.
03:29I called the President, and he released him immediately.
03:33It was something that the evangelical community will never forget.
03:37And because he was a good man, Pastor Brunson.
03:40So, you know, just things like that, we just have always — it's always worked out.
03:45And I think it's been from the very beginning, from the first moment.
03:48There's just — I said it before, it's a — it's a chemistry that works between us.
03:53There are those that I don't have a good chemistry with, I will tell you that.
03:57And we worked that out, too.
04:01With respect to what?
04:04Well, that's what hurt my relationship with NATO.
04:08Because Greenland doesn't help Denmark.
04:12Denmark doesn't spend money to really help Greenland.
04:16But it's an important part for the United States.
04:19And it's surrounded by China ships and Russian ships.
04:23And that's not going to happen.
04:24The ships is — it's not going to happen.
04:27It was Greenland that — in my — and it continues to be —
04:31that should be controlled by the United States, not by Denmark.
04:35And when they wouldn't go along with it, and with all the money we spend to help them with Russia
04:39
04:40and we don't have to spend any money — we could remove all of our soldiers out of Europe.
04:45Because, as you probably noticed, Europe is a very different place than it was 20 years ago.
04:51A lot different — much different.
04:53It's a much different — and they better be careful with immigration and energy.
04:58If they're not careful with those two things, you're not going to have a Europe anymore.
05:03Okay, thank you very much, everybody.
