00:02A Paris appeals court cleared the way for far-right leader Marine Le Pen to run for
00:07the French presidency next year but said she must wear an electronic bracelet. The verdict on Tuesday
00:12declared Le Pen guilty of embezzlement to use European Parliament funds to employ party staff
00:18in France but softened the ban on her holding elected office. Although she had previously said
00:24it was a no-go she must now decide whether campaigning in 2027 with an electronic monitoring bracelet
00:30as part of her sentence to be served at home is possible. The verdict appears to be a partial
00:36victory for Le Pen. It reduced her ban on elected office from five years handed down last year to
00:4245 months two-thirds of which are suspended. It also cut her prison sentence from four years to three
00:48two of which are suspended. Le Pen is expected to outline her intentions in an evening television
00:53interview later on Tuesday. The first trial last year found Le Pen guilty of embezzling European
00:59Parliament funds from 2004 to 2016 along with 24 former European lawmakers, assistants and accountants
01:06as well as the national rally itself.
