00:00The Trump administration says it's moving quickly to repair the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool
00:04again after its newly installed liner began peeling apart. The plan? Hire the very same
00:11company that installed it in the first place. Here's Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on CNN.
00:16We'll use the same company because they did a fantastic job.
00:19Did they though? The Reflecting Pool underwent a $16 million renovation this spring to fix
00:25long-standing leaks, repair joints, and install a new system designed to fight algae. But just
00:30weeks after reopening, the pool developed an unsightly algae bloom, and then visitors started
00:35noticing blue sealant peeling off the bottom in sheets. The Trump administration accused vandals
00:40of causing the damage, and federal charges have already been filed against one suspect.
00:44Meanwhile, some critics suggested President Trump's motorcade may have damaged the new surface when
00:49it crossed the pool during construction. Burgum flatly rejected that claim, noting the president
00:53did not use the ultra-heavy armored beast limo that usually is part of such a motorcade.
00:59No, I was with him when we came that night. He didn't take the beast. We were driving in a,
01:04you know, Cadillac Escalade. It is one of the presidential fleet of cars, but substantially
01:10lighter than what you're talking about. And at the time that we were there, they were still putting
01:14down the whole base level of this industrial rubber layer was not yet completed, and so there was no
01:20damage that night whatsoever. The Interior Department says crews will drain part of the 6.75 million
01:26gallon pool in the coming days to complete the repairs. A major court hearing begins today in
01:32Charlie Kirk's murder case, and it's going to be an emotional one. The conservative activist's parents
01:37and his widow, Erica, will likely be there to attend the five-day preliminary hearing in Utah,
01:42where prosecutors will begin laying out their case against accused gunman Tyler Robinson.
01:46A judge will then decide whether it's enough for the case to move forward to trial.
01:51Prosecutors are expected to present graphic evidence, including video of the shooting and
01:55details from Kirk's autopsy. Now, attorneys agreed to warn Kirk's family before those portions take
02:01place in open court, so they can choose whether to remain in the courtroom. Robinson is accused of
02:06fatally shooting Kirk as he spoke before a crowd of thousands at Utah Valley University last September.
02:11Prosecutors are also expected to present messages that they say show Robinson admitting to the
02:16shooting in communications with his former roommate and lover, Lance Twiggs, along with video of
02:20Twiggs' interview with investigators. Now, Robinson has not yet entered a plea. In all likelihood,
02:26this case will move on to trial, and if convicted, he could face the death penalty.
02:31Nancy Pelosi is preparing to retire after nearly 40 years in Congress, but this week's news isn't
02:36about her politics, it's about her husband. Paul Pelosi is facing a possible misdemeanor hit-and-run
02:41charge after authorities say he crashed his convertible into a parked car in Napa County,
02:45California over the weekend and then drove away. His car eventually broke down not far from the
02:50incident. Now, investigators say Pelosi told deputies that he knew he had hit something but
02:54didn't know what it was. Now, the sheriff's office says alcohol was not a factor. Pelosi registered a
02:59blood alcohol content of zero, and authorities are recommending a misdemeanor property damage hit-and-run
03:04charge. A spokesperson for the Pelosi family says Paul has personally apologized to the owner of the
03:09damaged vehicle and promised to take responsibility for the repairs. Now, this isn't the first time he's
03:14been in hot water for his actions behind the wheel. He previously pled guilty to a DUI charge following a
03:202022 crash. For that one, he was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation in order
03:25to pay
03:26$6,800 in fines and restitution and complete a DUI program. And way back in 1957, when he was just
03:3316
03:33years old, Paul flipped his sports car and killed his older brother while driving near San Mateo.
03:38That's south of San Francisco. According to a patrolman quoted by the San Francisco examiner
03:43at the time, his 19-year-old brother David, who was a passenger, had apparently urged him to drive
03:48slower before the fatal incident. For more on these stories and everything else you could possibly want
