00:14Zafrul confirmed that he had received a proposal letter from former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recommending the appointment
00:21of 54 companies through direct negotiations for projects that had already been approved.
00:27In his witness statement, Zafrul said direct negotiations involved awarding projects directly to selected companies without an open tender or
00:38competitive bidding process.
00:39He testified that the list of 54 companies was prepared by the Prime Minister's office and he added that neither
00:47he nor the Finance Ministry was involved in assessing or selecting the companies.
00:52He said he did not know how the companies were selected or whether Muhyiddin had any interest in them.
00:59He testified that Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, never told him the companies would make donations to Bersatu, adding
01:07that he never received any contributions from the listed companies.
