00:16what's good everybody welcome back to another edition of new york.game i hope everybody had
00:20themselves a great fourth of july weekend i know i did the knicks as we know they're nba champions
00:25for the first time in 53 years but the work to stay on top is already underway after the draft
00:31free agency and some major roster movement new york now heads to las vegas for nba summer league
00:37and while fans may not be looking for the next savior here in new york anymore they should be
00:41looking for the next cheap developable piece who can help extend this championship window
00:46but comdardier he headlines the group as a former first round pick entering a critical developmental
00:52checkpoint mohammediawara he's coming off a new deal and could be pushing for a bigger role next
00:58season tyler nickel give the knicks fans their first real look at one of the team's newest draft picks
01:03and there are several under the radar names trying to turn summer league minutes into a real opportunity
01:09with the organization so what should knicks fans actually be watching in vegas who needs to pop
01:16who has the most to prove and can any of these young players change the conversation heading into next
01:21season to break it all down i'm joined by nba draft and college basketball guru my guy chris lebron he's
01:27also the host of the off the ball podcast and contributor to knicks fan tv he joins me now chris

01:36what's up champ you know everyone is champ now if you're a knicks fan you're champ you know so
01:42you know a pleasure to be back on the show man and uh looking forward to summer league right
01:46it's right on the block i like it this is how knicks fans got to address each other man you
01:50gotta
01:50you gotta say what's up champ this is the vibes everybody is on for the summer so chris let's get
01:57into it because we're going to talk some summer league uh so as i mentioned the knicks they enter
02:01summer league as nba champions for the first time in 53 years before we even get to specific players
02:06how different should fans view summer league when the team is no longer as i mentioned at the top
02:11searching for savers but maybe looking and searching for cheap developable role players
02:16how should fans view this summer league here in 2026 well i mean summer league is always tough to
02:23evaluate because let's be real like a lot of these guys will not be on the roster or even playing
02:30you
02:30know in the nba so like it's it's kind of hard to get a feel sometimes off of guys that
02:36are you know
02:36are going to be playing and seeing how they gel with some of the other guys that most likely won't
02:40be
02:40on the team so i always tell people to have to to take summer league in a little dosage don't
02:45get
02:45too high too low with summer league we did a lot with like tyler kolik last year and i tried
02:50to tell
02:50people he's playing with a lot of guys that he's not going to be playing with it at the nba
02:54like
02:54it's so you have to really i know they people were upset about the turnovers and maybe just shot stuff
02:59but i was like i still believe so like you have to really just take summer league with dosages and
03:04not
03:04try to get too high and i have to do the same thing sometimes i get too high with the
03:08you know
03:08player having a good game or red and too low with the the bad game so you just got to
03:12take it but
03:13this year especially obviously coming off a championship you don't i think i don't think
03:17like like we mentioned with the draft the stress level isn't there like it was maybe you know last
03:21few years uh but there's still you want to see some of the younger players you know on this team
03:26and
03:27maybe some of the guys they picked up and see maybe we have some hidden gems that could potentially
03:31come off the bench you know so uh you gotta take summer league with dosages yeah you gotta take
03:36a grand assault and yes you're right we did say this before the draft that hey this might be a
03:40stress-free draft but you know what as for i did a couple of live draft shows i realized uh
03:46some
03:46people in the knicks fan base they're still going to be stressed no matter what it doesn't matter what
03:50happens championship or not they're still just going to be stressed they're going to choose to stress
03:54no matter what now 100 you know you know this you know this chris you know they're going to choose
03:58it uh pakom dadi he feels like the headliner here he was a 2024 first round pick he's still
04:05only 20 years old i do think that matters here we have to remember that but he's also entering year
04:11three of his nba career what does a good summer league look like for pakom dadi here in vegas
04:20just looking like he belongs in the nba just doing the little stuff you know i think with pakom
04:27well you knew he was a project right and like i said i i wasn't crazy about the selection i
04:32i've
04:33said this and i told you had you had swapped you know uh pakom in the second round and and
04:38had taken
04:38kolik in the first round i think people would have more reasonable expectations when it comes to
04:44pakom but you know he was always a project and that's what they were kind of looking for so i
04:48just
04:48just looking like you belong you know setting screens cutting you know making open shots i feel even
04:56last summer like he was just missing open shots a lot and so just getting that confidence now he
05:00has to look confident it is he's in year three he's seen what a championship team looks like you
05:06know on you know playing behind og mikhail you know all these guys a year three he he should we
05:13should see you know a confident and ready to go pakom dadi and if that's not the case then you
05:21know
05:21there's definitely going to be some uh there's definitely going to be concerns but he should
05:26come out and and be confident shoot do the little things and show that you belong in the nba because
05:31he could be someone especially on the cheap you know we we need all the you know we're on a
05:36little
05:37bit of a budget you know you know without you know with all the salary we have committed to the
05:41guys
05:41we have now so we got to find some cheap players and then that can help you know and uh
05:46you know he's
05:46still young you know coming from overseas you know it's going to take time to develop but he just he
05:51just got to look like he belongs do the little things you know be confident with the jump shot
05:55because the jump shot's good it's just a matter of it going down and once he's i think once he
05:59sees
05:59it going down maybe we'll see the confidence going because you always hear the players talk about him
06:03and then they're they think he's ready so year three that you know we should see something it
06:08uh the confidence is the big thing if this conference is there then maybe we got something
06:13because we're going to need something off the bench and then we could use the wing depth off the bench
06:16too so this is this is crucial he's the guy he's you know he should be able to to come
06:21in and and
06:22have a good good performances so looking forward to seeing what he does because it's going to be
06:25important i like that you mentioned confidence because there was a couple times last year in
06:30summer league and i'm with you you got to take summer league with a grain of salt where i said
06:34the shot
06:34looks good the form looks good but he's just not hitting these shots i even felt like that in the
06:39preseason last year yeah some stuff he looked he started a couple games i think both the games in
06:44abu dhabi and he looked good and then you know then it wasn't defensively sometimes he looked lost
06:51so that's another thing i'll be watching how active is he on defense but we'll see what become got it
06:56this feels i don't want to say this summer league is make or break for him but this year for
07:01him this
07:02upcoming season with the next coming off the championship feels like make or break for him now year three for
07:07a
07:07guy you should be able to take at least show a significant progress if even if it does like
07:13next if it's not there then there's going to be you know there's going to be some concerns yeah
07:18there's going to there's going to be some concerns for sure if you don't you don't see that at all
07:22now we got to talk about mo dior who people know watching the show i was very high on last
07:27season he
07:27just got paid like a real developmental piece the knicks clearly believe in his defensive upside you hear
07:33that from talking to people around the knicks what specifically should fans watch with him
07:37in vegas this summer just that that offensive creation i think that's the next level you want
07:45to see from because we talked about it like the offense was the thing that we were concerned about
07:50that that was his development that was the big thing like all right the defense is what's going
07:54to get him on the court but the offense is the thing we got to see and then we saw
07:57the offense
07:58especially the outside shooting and we're like oh this is way way far ahead of schedule like we
08:06thought the offense was maybe going to be a few years away and he was ready to go from essentially
08:12from the jump so just continue to continue to see his uh confidence you know that's a big thing with
08:18young guys getting the confidence going which he you saw that a lot he he doesn't the confidence
08:22thing is not an issue with him like he's going to be ready to go he's going to shoot so
08:26just seeing
08:27if he can do some stuff off the ball you know off ball stuff and and on ball create can
08:32he be a
08:32creator can he get guys off the dribble i think that's the next thing you want to see and if
08:36he
08:36can take that to to the next level of his game i mean the sky's the limit for him like
08:41there was he
08:42was always like had crazy upside but now that we saw like in year one that oh this is real
08:48this
08:48isn't something we're waiting three four or five years along maybe like pakom in a sense like we're
08:53still waiting to see with with mo we saw the potential instantly and you're just like okay
09:00if he develops everything else you know he's a good slasher the defense is solid you know he can
09:05be even a better defender too which is crazy because he has all the measure and obviously a
09:10year learning from mikhail and og is definitely going to help you know for this offseason so i think
09:16seeing the the the off ball stuff the the dribble drive stuff you know all the on ball creation
09:22if he takes that to the next level that's that's it's that's scary that's scary and then we talk
09:29about hey the knicks hit on second round picks this might be you know maybe the low-key the the
09:34replacement for mitchell robinson with more offensive upside you know that's that could be really scary
09:41for for the knicks going forward you know in a good way good scary in a good way as far
09:45as
09:45finding a hidden gem in the second round yeah and look they've got him locked on a multi-year deal
09:50i thought
09:51that was huge and what they needed to do this offseason they got him here let's keep this on
09:55dor for a second because if he looks like the best nick on the floor in summer league does that
10:01change
10:01how you think about his chance to help this team with an increased role this upcoming season if he
10:07looks like the best nick on the floor here do you think that changes how you view him and his
10:11chance
10:11to help the team with an even larger role this season i think no matter what he's going to be
10:16playing more minutes than he was last year and playing significant minutes you know crunch time
10:20as i could see potentially you know so and i think if he's not if he's showing he's the best
10:25player
10:25he's not going to be playing summer league much he'll play a few games and then they'll be like no
10:29no
10:29we need him we need him ready to go for the season and get him uh prepared and let the
10:34other young guys
10:35you know see what they can do so uh i think he his minutes are going to definitely increase they
10:40obviously they they believe in him they gave him a multi-year deal so they believe in it they saw
10:46he
10:46was playing good minutes you know regular season like like i said when he was starting or we was
10:50getting high minutes he showed that he can do some stuff so i think they see the vision man i
10:56think
10:56you know regardless he's going to be a significant factor come regular season so you know uh he's he's
11:04definitely he's definitely in their plans this year and i could i definitely expect them to
11:08definitely take a tick in minutes for sure yeah i think so too the big thing here is mike brown
11:12trusted him last year that was a big thing for me he started i believe seven games started seven
11:16games last year played uh in a bunch of a lot of games he got a lot more games than
11:21i think anybody
11:22would have expected last year i didn't expect that at all expect that at all right and so if you
11:26would have told me he would have paid 60 plus games last year i'd have said what i didn't see
11:30that
11:30coming in to see what you saw from him the shooting is very encouraging and i think he has to
11:36show
11:36that okay i'm ready for more minutes but i think he will be ready for more minutes for sure now
11:41and
11:41coaching coaching too man i mean under tom maybe he doesn't get that that chance i don't know and i
11:48think that's probably why i think that's why they made the move because they they needed they needed
11:53the coach to expand and mike brown and show that he'll teach you trust some of the younger guys
11:57you know um especially during the regular season so and then you know playoffs is different but you know
12:01that's different you know you're you know you're trying to win a championship so i understand but i think
12:05he's those second third year guys i think we're gonna see a lot of those guys you know uh play
12:11significant minutes this year yeah i think so i i don't disagree with you at all i think coaching
12:15matters a ton and just him getting his opportunity and now possibly getting even larger opportunity
12:20during the 2026 2027 season now tyler nickel nicks fans will get to see the newest draft pick they'll
12:29get to see him in vegas he's got the shooting reputation chris but what else do you think tyler
12:34nickel needs to show people to make them believe that he can be more than just a three-point shooting
12:40specialist him being the nicks second round pick here this year what do you think he needs to show
12:45here in vegas i i i love the tyler pick that was one of my guys pre-draft i i
12:52didn't know if it was
12:53going to be possible the nicks could grab him they they wound up getting him so that was but with
12:57him
12:57obviously we know he's a sharpshooter yeah he shoots over 40 percent from three the off ball move off ball
13:03stuff he does you know just the weight the movement everything you know off the catch off the
13:08everything is he's just a problem maybe the best shooter in the draft you know um or at least the
13:14best you know wing shooter in the draft he just has to show the defense that he at least he
13:19could be a
13:21a solid respectable or even average type defender that's the thing you know he doesn't have that
13:27athleticism you know a lot and you know he gets he does get blown by past a lot but if
13:32he could show
13:33that he can just be that he could just show the effort and put that towards his defense you know
13:38i think i think he could be um i think he could be that's what's going to help him you
13:45know either
13:46get minutes or make the team because like i said the shooting is going to be there i'm 100 confident
13:51in that but it's the defense if he can work on that i think that's going to help him and
13:56at least show
13:58that you could be a capable defender or solid defender keep guys in front of you at least a
14:02little bit if he does that i think he'll be all right yeah because the shooting was good and we
14:07did
14:07a film breakdown with him and jack hale i'll get to in a second but that was my thing too
14:12chris if he
14:13can defend and he had some moments in college where he showed that he could defend on the on the
14:19ball
14:19and a little bit off the ball and chase guys off screens because i think we'll see this i'm sure
14:24we'll see this in summer league guys are going to attack him they're going to put him in a lot
14:27of
14:27pick and roll situations so we're going to see how he's going to hold up defensively i think people
14:31will get excited with the shooting and they should but yeah if he's going to actually get minutes and
14:37maybe that's not this year maybe it's developing down the road and i'm sure he'll be tested if he
14:40plays in the g league it's going to be about defending now the knicks other second round pick
14:46this year jack hale not on the summer league roster as of right now the time of us recording this
14:52there is some news coming out there that he could be on the summer league roster the expectation is
14:59that he will continue to develop overseas though do you like that patient approach the knicks might
15:04be taking with him or would you want to see him in a knicks jersey whether it's summer league training
15:09camp right away what do you think about the approach possibly here with jack hale did you want to
15:14see him in summer league or do you like the patient approach that he might stay overseas a little
15:19longer what do you think i think of course you want to see him in summer league right you know
15:24you
15:24you selected him with your first second round pick you know you want to see him but i i respect
15:29their
15:29approach because there's no rush you know there really is no rush to bring him over you know right
15:33now i know that i think this i think there's a visa issue or something like that that could be
15:38why
15:38you know it is a little bit of a delay uh with him coming to summer league but uh i'm
15:43fine with the
15:44patience there's no need to rush him he's he is a project but i mean he's another guy that i
15:49i did
15:50like you know i had him around like 45 to 50 on my board you know um you know there's
15:56things a lot
15:57of things and we talked about guards right dex we talked about guards and like that not like i
16:03wouldn't be shocked if they take a guard you know we talked a lot about you know maybe potentially
16:08taking a guard at 24 obviously they they punted out at 24 you know obviously with all the cap stuff
16:12you understood why they did that but with jack you know you know he's someone who's super talented
16:18and there was a few games i watched earlier in his uh when he's playing overseas and you just you
16:25saw
16:26the potential and now he does get a little trigger happy and then shooting a lot you know taking a
16:32lot
16:32of crazy shots but you know he was making a lot of tough shots like you know so there's things
16:37a lot
16:37to like a lot bottom but i i respect the patience because there's really no rush for him like
16:41right now he would be you know he's not going to play this year even if he was to make
16:46the team
16:46and stuff so there's no there's no reason to rush him just you know let him develop continue to get
16:52better and better and then maybe next season where you know depending on the situation with the guards
16:57maybe he comes in and he could be that third guard you know coming off the bench and really help
17:02you
17:02out because this year most likely he's not going to really help you out but you i would i love
17:07to see
17:07him in summer league because i think he's talented and he could really show out you know um but i
17:12think there's a lot of knicks fans that have like the roca's uh jacobitis you know uh you know scared
17:18syndrome because like we were so excited about potentially him being and before remember he was
17:22drafted for we got brunson he may be him being the next guy and we're still waiting for him
17:27we're still waiting to see he's coming over you know so i think fans are a little like oh we've
17:32seen
17:32this story before but i think i don't i don't think it'll get to that level i think we'll see
17:36him but maybe there's no rush for him right now yeah it seems there's no rush but if he look
17:41i'll
17:42put like this if he can come over and play through summer league yeah i think that's dope even even
17:48if
17:48he still plays another season um overseas in germany i which i still think could be good for him
17:54and then gets a real shot at training camp the following year back in summer league the next year i
17:59think
17:59that could be a good look for the knicks because we could get into i won't get into too deep
18:03but you
18:03can get into all the tradable assets they have with become dotty or tyler colic that they could
18:08use during the season to maybe yeah improve their backup center option we'll get to that in a second
18:13um but yeah i it would be nice to see him with these other guys playing with mo diawar playing
18:20with
18:20become dotty a playing with tyler nickel it will be good to see we'll see what happens um with that
18:25got a local name for you here chris osiah sellers uh st john's fans they will know him well
18:31uh i just got to see him up close and personal covering a lot of st john's this year what
18:36does
18:36he need to show to turn a summer league invite into a real nba opportunity whether it's with the
18:42knicks or some somebody else what does osiah sellers need to show here in summer league
18:47just continue the shooting because before he got the st john's he was at stanford and he was a
18:52lights out shooter shooting 40 from three at stanford and you know playing in the acc you know
18:58with a lot of good you know defensive teams like like duke virginia you know he he was able to
19:03do
19:03his thing this year at st john's you know the shooting took a little bit of a drop i think
19:08he
19:08was like a mid-30s three-point shooter and you kind of understand that with with mitchell and bryce
19:13hopkins they're going to take and zuby you know they're going to the the lanes weren't as open you know
19:19it was you know there was a lot of you know spacing issues that he didn't really have that
19:23much at stanford so kind of figuring out and then like you saw the last few games of the tournament
19:27especially against duke in the 316 just this wasn't i think he was like one of nine or two
19:32something like that against duke so didn't have so showing that you know maybe it was just a fluke
19:38this year that you know he did three-point shooting with a dip took a dip you know and just
19:42showing he
19:42could be still a consistent three-point shooter because he really is he's another one that you know
19:46if you just put on the stamp he might have got drafted a little if it was just based off
19:50the
19:50stanford tape you know but you know st john's took a little bit of a hit but you know just
19:55showing
19:55that you can that he's still capable of being a lights out shooter the off the off ball movement is
20:00is something i think the knicks are looking for they're looking for that type it seems like that's
20:04the player they're trying to look for it obviously drafted tyler nickel and in the same instance here
20:09you know he's that type of player you know and has the kind of like that he's not maybe a
20:14defender like this but like quentin grimes type of player you know especially offensively that's
20:19kind of what he reminds me of defensively maybe not to the to the same and that's probably the
20:24issue he needs to work on is his defense you got to get you know he's not strong he's like
20:28under
20:28200 pounds so got to get stronger but we talked about that guys could get stronger once they get
20:33to the nba and get into a real you know you know real you know training you know do do
20:39all that
20:39supplements all that stuff that he can get stronger so if he could work on that show that he can
20:44keep
20:44guys in front of him same thing with a lot of these guys you know there's a reason why guys
20:47get
20:48sec or second round picks or get undrafted there obviously is the ape flaw so he needs to work on
20:52stuff but if he continues shows that you know show the stanford shooting and what he was doing off
20:57ball and all that stuff because that if you watch the stanford stuff that it's really good you know
21:02like i said st john stuff took a little bit of dip and that's probably why he didn't get drafted
21:05but
21:05you see if he continues to show that he can move off ball you know show his placement
21:09catch and shoot that's going to get him a at least a look for sure maybe get a shot you
21:14know
21:15westchester or something that's going to get him a chance to to you know play some type of pro
21:19basketball yeah i like that he's on the roster it's always nice to have a local tie-in you know
21:23a lot a lot of his fans obviously they were rooting for the knicks to probably pick zubie
21:27edges forward that didn't happen he goes away so close so close so close always so close uh but
21:34you know it's nice to have a local guy here that some fans may know to look at the shooting
21:38is the
21:39shooting is good he's a really good shooter you're right you didn't see some of that at st john's i
21:43do
21:43agree with you some of the spacing issues on that team uh didn't help a lot so you didn't maybe
21:48get as
21:48clean three-point looks as you probably would like uh on that red storm roster but yeah he's a good
21:54shooter and i do think defense is going to be the key for him at the next level now we
21:58got to talk
21:59about the bigs because next fans notice they lost mitchell robinson they brought in andre drummond
22:04so the front court depth conversation has changed do you see any bigs on this summer league roster
22:13that should be on the radar fans because i know a lot of fans are looking to think about okay
22:18who can
22:18be a third center is there a young center that the knicks could develop here coming out of summer
22:24league are there any bigs on this roster that you like that you think could have a shot to make
22:29the
22:29big roster the main team roster when the season starts dax i'm not feeling it i'm not feeling the
22:36big i'm not feeling the big i mean we that we i thought we drafted our potential big you know
22:44and
22:53had a guy who we both liked that we thought you know could be really good but you're telling me
22:59when you look at this who's on the summer league roster uh the centers it's not it's not doing it
23:03for you no it's not doing it for me you know i mean uh nick jordan like he you know
23:10he's not really a
23:11big he's like six seven you know uh he's an athletic guy but you know maybe as a switchable wing
23:18guy but
23:18he can't really guard bigs you know if we're trying to find the mitch robinson it's he's really
23:25you know it's it's he's not really replaceable in a sense like you know and we're talking about a guy
23:32who's technically a backup big that's not replaceable and i mean there isn't really anyone
23:38on the market you know even at like a little tier below that is like mitchell robinson so
23:43this was never going to be easy to find a replacement so trying to find it through summer
23:48league i mean i don't see anyone like that on this roster you know and obviously they added andre
23:54drummond and you know he's been in the league for a while obviously you know he's one of the best
23:58rebounding bigs you know of of this era you know so but you know obviously the defensive stuff
24:05is not his strong suit so the that's going to be that's going to be difficult that that's this is
24:11something that they're going to try to maybe try to find during the regular season you know maybe
24:16they could find someone but you know there's no one on summer league that you know that i feel really
24:21great about that i think of potentially you know get minutes you know i i don't i don't i just
24:28don't
24:28see what some of the bigs that they have on this summer league roster all right there you go next
24:33fans don't get too excited about the bigs on this summer league roster yeah the answer for the third
24:38center probably isn't coming there it's probably coming elsewhere we'll see how that plays out i
24:43do agree with you i'll have more on this later on the show i do agree with you that the
24:47answer for
24:47the next backup center for the playoffs not the regular season for the playoffs probably could be
24:54not on this roster yet may happen during the season during the trade deadline we'll see how all
24:58that works out now big i guess we'll end on this big picture question for you when summer league is
25:06over
25:06chris which nick needs to have changed the conversation the most is it dadi is it the awara
25:12is it nickel or is it one of the under the radar guys fighting for a two-way role or
25:17a role at west
25:18chester who needs to change the conversation the most coming out of summer league it's got to be
25:24the comb right i i think everything is focused on pacom you know he's the first round pick you know
25:31this is year three you have to see a significant jump in his game because he you know the fact
25:38that
25:38mo dor who was a second round pick and a lot of people probably didn't even hear about him and
25:43he's
25:43way ahead of the curve you know that that's that might tell us a lot so but he he needs
25:49to show out he
25:50needs to have he needs to like i mentioned before he needs to look like he's a nba player you
25:55know and
25:56for me i haven't seen that he looks like an nba player so far so that's why we've heard in
26:03the
26:03conversations about you know him getting potentially dealt you know obviously to clear
26:07some cap but he needs to show it to me that's the one that i'm looking for i need him
26:12to just
26:12look like he belongs do the little things because that's what's eventually obviously going to get
26:17him on the court is the little things right and then you got to keep you know you know showing
26:23coach brown that you deserve same thing like what mode did most show that he could do all these little
26:27stuff and allowed him to be able to you know take catch and shoot threes you know that you got
26:32to
26:32show that that you could deserve that and you earn that so for me for comb has to show the
26:37little
26:38things that he can do to deserve to get minutes so like when coach brown is looking down the line
26:43you know when ogd he's like but calm let's go have that trust it's all about trust and mike brown
26:50when he trusts you he'll let you play it doesn't seem like he trusts him this summer league is very
26:54important for him so to me he's he's the only he's the one guy i'm looking at to see you
27:00know to see
27:00that he's made a significant lead because that's that could help us a lot you know if we can get
27:06anything from him you know even if it's eight to ten minutes of solid play you know when when our
27:11wings
27:11are either out or you need a rest if he if we can if mike brown could look at him
27:16and be like all right
27:17you're coming and not just playing you know down 20 up 20 you know last two minutes play legit third
27:23quarter minutes you know down to you know we got to he has he's got to be able to show
27:28that so if he
27:28could show us anything that's going to be so that's really the only guy i'm really focused on is is
27:34him
27:34because if he i trust mo i trust a lot of the other guys that you know could are going
27:38to get minutes
27:39with it with the knicks with the big club he's the one guy that we really need to see because
27:43if it's
27:43not there dex then they gotta it might be it might be a wrap for him so i'm i'm you
27:48know he he's uh
27:49he's the number one guy i'm looking forward to seeing what he does yeah i think for a lot of
27:53fans
27:53if they come out of this summer league and again urging all the fans out there chris said it i
27:58said
27:59it take summer league don't do too much with it i wouldn't do that but i think nicks fans will

29:50why moves happen and what they tell us about how this organization thinks so we're introducing a new
29:56segment it's going to be called dex's clipboard and it's my clipboard so now it's time to open up the
30:00clipboard and today we're talking about the newest nick that is andre drumming now when this signing
30:06happened i think the immediate reaction from a lot of knicks fans was obvious they were like wait a
30:10minute mitchell robinson is gone and andre drummond is a replacement and look i get it i get the shock
30:18with mitch being gone mitch was drafted here in new york he developed here he helped this team win a
30:24championship you don't just replace eight years of history and chemistry overnight but that's also
30:30not really what the knicks are trying to do here the knicks are not asking andre drummond to replace
30:35mitchell robinson they're asking him to replace mitchell robinson's responsibilities and that brings
30:42us to note number one on the clipboard the nba has changed people we talk about five out offenses
30:47spacing three-point shooting versatility and all of those things matter but you know what still wins in
30:53may and june possessions the object of the game always has and always will be to win possessions
31:00can you create extra ones can you eliminate second chances for the other team that was mitchell robinson's
31:05superpower for this next team and when you look at andre drummond whatever you think he isn't at this
31:11point of his career there's one thing that's always been true he is one of the best rebounders alive
31:18no doubt look is he going to protect the rim like mitch probably not is he going to switch defensively
31:24the same way probably not again but he can come in for 15 to 20 minutes and make sure the
31:29knicks don't
31:30lose their physical edge and that's the bet that leon rose and company are making here that takes me to
31:36note number two this move is about protecting carl anthony towns because when the knicks acquired cat
31:42the question was never about the offense we know what he does on that end the question was always
31:48how do you build a front court rotation around it you don't want cap banging with every physical center
31:54that is in the league the few that there are for 82 games we all know you don't want him
31:59picking up
31:59unnecessary fouls and you want to feel good about his backup when he does pick up those unnecessary
32:05fouls which we have seen you don't want every matchup turning into a wrestling match and that's where
32:10andre drummond helps there are going to be nights against eastern conference foes
32:14like the sixers the heat the celtics or the magic where you just need size you need somebody who enjoys
32:21contact somebody who says yeah i'll do the dirty work tonight and the last note on the clipboard
32:27might be the most important championship teams they're not looking for perfect players
32:32they're looking for players who know exactly what and who they are look at the knicks roster right now
32:39jalen brunson closer no doubt og ananobi defensive stopper josh hart he brings the energy and the chaos
32:46and the heart cozy alvarado pressure and toughness andre drummond rebounding and physicality role
32:53clarity matters the worst thing you can ask with role players is to ask them to be something that
32:59they're not the knicks don't need detroit pistons andre drummond that guy is gone they don't need all
33:05star andre drummond they need 15 to 20 minutes of him setting screens dominating the glass being
33:10physical and protecting the championship identity so here's where i land on everything did the knicks
33:17get better going from mitchell robinson to andre drummond probably not but considering the financial
33:22situation considering the second apron considering what this roster needed this is exactly the type of
33:29move that good teams make the knicks spent years trying to find stars now they're operating like a
33:35team that already has those stars that means the margins matter the eighth the ninth the tenth guys
33:40they matter and andre drummond's job isn't to change who the knicks are it's to make sure they don't lose
