01:20very cool he just rang me the other day and he said i've got a few tasty items new in
01:25yes would you like to cut out immediately i didn't even finish the sentence i went what
01:30time what sort of stuff okay phil has phil has a passion for steam oh okay well we wait a
01:40minute are you thinking of actually purchasing something that's steam powered no that is not
01:45a tabletop item no he's got loads and loads of um stationary engines i know that okay but everything
01:53else i know not really but his place is just the loveliest well you'll see mate okay it's quality
02:03whether we return with a steam engine or just some steamed up windows who knows but borstal here we come
02:14have i died and gone to heaven no no you have yeah this this actually is st peter yeah you're
02:20standing at the pearly gates and phil's there man he goes what do you want first have a look at
02:27the
02:27steam engines yeah stationeries what is it for you about stationary stuff and steam i mean look at
02:33those locos over there those i mean they're just yeah i mean they're good fun but um stationery you
02:38just start them up and just enjoy them they're relaxing they you know and you can saw a bit
02:42wood up with them or it's fantastic i mean if you lived in a place like this why you don't
02:47need to
02:47go anywhere so stationeries are your friends that is true it does spoil you for going out to be honest
02:51yeah yeah i'm a bit of a recluse getting in here yeah we're lucky aren't we really yeah to be
02:55like
02:56it's a disease yeah and i don't want to get over it man is everything for sale or do you
03:00have some
03:00sacred special stuff no there is quite a bit of sacred stuff to be honest with you yeah of course
03:04i know
03:04there is there always is hey look mate look we'll have a rummage about as okay and uh call you
03:08in
03:08on a few things so i'm fascinated to know about a few things okay and then uh hopefully we'll do
03:12it do a deal hopefully have a haggle yeah uh phil great look we'll start we'll start here
03:17wherever you want okay mate we'll see you in a bit okay see you in a while yeah cheers see
03:20you
03:20all right come on bye now phil's first shed has more heavy metal than monsters of rock
03:31signs stationary engines
03:34and most importantly a useful tool to help you amass even more a bit of heavy lifting power
03:45probably an industrious or a yard crane is it which i guess so um let's just have a look inside
03:51here we go we've got a diesel engine in now so isn't that a fantastic thing it's just fabulous
03:57isn't it can you imagine restoring that and just paint it as sort of british racing green
04:01that's right and then lifting things oh we could spend all day lifting things we could put guy in a
04:08harness and take him up and leave him there you could or you could strap a motorcycle suspend it and
04:15work
04:20on it coming back down to earth across the way he's got a lawn full of cricket rollers
04:26including this little baby you love this don't you yeah i mean you can you could have a cricket pitch
04:34i could have a cricket yeah yeah here come on need a handle oh look at that okay a keensham
04:40or
04:40kensham i don't i'd call it a keensham and this obviously is the gear shifter you go forward and
04:46back huh yep i would think so yeah that's a great thing how old is that do you reckon do
04:52you know i don't
04:53think it's particularly old i would say earliest i'm gonna i'm gonna hazard a guess at 1930s but
05:02possibly possibly possibly it could be post war mate i'd love it and also look there's a hitch
05:11you can tow your friends around with it as well
05:18the farolas of a different kind phil's got some steam giants
05:26and giantesses josephine's been here for a while where'd you get her
05:30that came about 80 1989 from a friend of mine up at chesham 1989 was this your first this was
05:38the
05:38first one okay this was the first one the highland made highland made yeah scottish but the other
05:43one's a little bit special that's the bucks county council so it could have worked around these roads
05:48today these are worth tens of thousands but not that long ago they were sold for scrap
05:55was it just simply because diesel came in diesel rollers uh yeah sort of yeah press the button and
06:02away you go and these were heavy so they were they were worth weighing in that's right yeah well
06:06yeah yeah the brass on them everything and everything else yeah the rollers were going at
06:10one time i think it was sort of say in the 50s and 60s 25 quid wow that's what they
06:15weighed to
06:15yes in scrap so they have 25 quid for a roller it's just i mean sacrilege now looking back at
06:21it
06:21it is anyway let's get back in the shed thanks phil we'll see you a little bit i'm loving these
06:26things perhaps we should buy one of these that would be great you know oh no it's just cost a
06:30little bit too much moving on to phil's more bijou sheds wow
06:42if you're gonna have a film set yeah yes of an old shed yeah you just go oh phil can
06:51i borrow this for
06:52the afternoon do you know i mean this is absolutely amazing i think people try their best to emulate
06:59that god blimey what's no okay so that i've got one of these yeah it's one of my prized possessions
07:04so you got yourself a two gallon can yes yeah but these are called duo cans yes i know there
07:10we are
07:10and there it is that is fantastic isn't it isn't that a beautiful thing lovely unrestored original
07:16beautiful and a thing of beauty yeah you won't sell it
07:21we've got to buy something though and luckily there is one more shed
07:28blimey o'reilly what the heck is that i've never seen a guzzi that small
07:31oh well don't what it's got compression and i've got compression i was expecting it to be seized
07:44motor guzzi is one of italy's most famous bike brands founded in 1921 in genova over here it's
07:52known for its big racing and cruising bikes but in the 70s and 80s they also produced budget models
07:59like this this could be a good little yard bike couldn't it you know just dress it up a little
08:04bit
08:04clean it up i mean if milliard could get that going to me as a young lad that would have
08:10been
08:10a great thing to knock about on hasn't got a v5 though has it but it's a farm bike well
08:16i don't
08:16yeah it's a farm bike it's last taxed in 1991 so it might be on the system let's have a
08:21little
08:21shimmy shall we okay gro okay 96t yeah search
08:29oh my god oh my god it's come up well that's amazing and so is that come this way
08:38now that is nice isn't it here trolley into the light
08:44careful you might get your hands dirty oh yeah oh dear yeah
08:47it's up oh you've got you've got grease all over you
08:51okay so a little two-stroke oil dispenser very lovely could clean up nice yes i mean not
08:57they're not that you know valuable but at the same time they're lovely and decorative in my view
09:02i agree with you i think that's a lovely thing to just have just at the entrance to your
09:06to have them to hold yeah from this day forth yeah okay so look we've got this we've got the
09:14guzzy
09:14yes we've got the uh the roller cricket roller yeah but also there was that sign on the outside
09:20what what was that one that dominion the dominion sign yeah whether he'd ever
09:24do you can always ask yeah there's all it can always say no can't we should we go and ask
09:37so where are we going to start uh there's a lovely dominion sign on the wall over there
09:43yeah i know i know he i know he likes that i know yeah sorry
09:48okay okay while we're getting the negatives out of the way yeah yeah you're not going to sell the
09:54duo can to me are you i can't henry no no so talk to me about that little cricket pitch
10:00roller thing
10:00i bought that a couple of years ago at a sale and um yeah really pleased with it going to
10:05do loads of
10:05things they get it going and play a bit of it and haven't touched it to be honest so it's
10:10it's here
10:10it's there it's a nice ornament yes it could be yes do you know how much that would be
10:15much as possible really what would you offer yeah there we go well batted over the net there
10:22around a monkey probably 500 550 is yours
10:27i wouldn't argue with the man all right so never argue with phil yeah exactly right now we haven't
10:32even started yet i mean the seat's nice and then it's nice plate on it okay now look what is
10:38that
10:38little guzzy about in there that one two five yeah i mean that's up for grabs really i mean that's
10:43another thing i saw and i thought i'll get it do something with it run at all it's got compression
10:47not that no no no it did when it was new yeah obviously it did very good i mean for
10:54a guzzy
10:54that is surprising i have to tell you uh how much is it 300 and it's yours
11:14we're over in borstal with phil and his cherry-picked collection we've already got a cricket roller
11:21and a bidding on a baby motor guzzy
11:26300 in the shoes can i do 250 on the guzzy i'm doing 550 on the uh on the rear
11:32max around yeah done yeah okay yeah sorted that's great
11:42next day back at the shed we weigh up our options
11:48troops come on i'm speaking to alan you're feeling a bit queasy
11:53all right okay mate all right okay yeah no look well get well man
11:57yeah i'll see you in the morning all right okay all right but bye bye bye bye bye bye
12:02is that al he's pulled a secchi hasn't he no he was getting on his motorbike and he felt a
12:07little
12:07bit bilious okay uh so he's not coming oh so we've got our work cut out by the look of
12:12it
12:13what do you reckon skid uh i think he's done well to go through the slips that's what i honestly
12:18think he'll be here tomorrow okay so if we can't do anything uh we'll have tea
12:25uh so look man this is it skiddy we've just been having a little look at it
12:28and it is it is uh i don't tell me is it seized it is yes at the moment which
12:35means we can't check
12:35even for a spark no so we need to unseize it first but the good news is right that the
12:42engine
12:42is quite easy to guess at i think it'll do wonders for my paddock it could do uh if it
12:50goes
12:50i think this is going to be a bit of a nightmare no it's i know i'm you're always half
12:55empty i think
12:56it's going to be fine yes but it's always half full you are the dregs yeah it is um but
13:02my dregs
13:03are born from experience i'm telling you i'm telling you with this tread we caution pessimistic
13:10optimist which means henry i'm a realist should we move on to another little artifact yes
13:21it is a 121 i think it is cc it's blown illegal yeah exactly it is yeah my view is
13:29i bought it
13:30from phil not perhaps because we're going to restore it now but just stash it for a rainy winter
13:35you know it'll disintegrate completely no we'll put it in the shed but it's 250 quid for god's sake
13:43hey look shall we forget that for a bit and just see what we can do with this thing
13:47yep just to see the problem we are the bay city rollers
13:54and on that splendid note what are we going to do first well have we tried to crank it
14:00yeah yeah what about if we rolled it backwards and forwards a bit
14:03well we need to find out is it in gear or not no i don't think look once we've got
14:08it going
14:09watch that please help feel free okay jump starting might seem like a good plan
14:19go forwards come on what's good forwards you're you're
14:23but it isn't let's get a run up and what have we got a manual for this because i think
14:29we need a bit
14:30of rtfm oh yeah we have what's rtfm read the flipping manual
14:34in fact we don't have a manual and even when we strip it
14:41bang it phil said that it was tight but it wasn't seized
14:46i would say that it's very tight yeah yeah and try a bit of brute force we get no joy
14:55why don't we just try the gator good idea gator it is here we go
15:00okay look at that that's made for towing baby
15:13well it is rolling nicely hey
15:22it's flattening beautifully but not under its own steam
15:27bad news is i think we're in for a complete engine out and rebuild on this before we get
15:33any action out of it however there is a good bit of news what we now know that the gator
15:39toes this so we could still make a nice flat lawn no disrespect fuzz skid whatever but milliard
15:47does like lawn mowers and that kind of stuff yes so it might be a milliard experience so it's got
15:53a
15:54day of execution until tomorrow yeah well fuzz is not here tomorrow yeah yeah i'm afraid so yeah
15:59so it's just going to be you me and the wizard
16:06next morning alan's in the house
16:11the motor guzzies a no-no because the flywheel's missing and it'll take weeks to get a spare but for
16:19the
16:19engine whisperer a seized lawn roller is an irresistible challenge the piston is stuck into
16:25the barrel you've got you've got to slide the barrel off the piston so we can clean that up to
16:29make it work
16:30sounds like a plan but getting the barrel off is not quite as easy as alan thinks
16:34it's coming off it's coming off it's coming off what alan unseized it come on al
16:42alan tries wiggling it's coming oh yeah levering and more levering
16:50oh we are very close man we are so close that's it that's gonna do it but it takes all
16:57three of us
16:58before oh it's off then we're down in the way look at that baby oh alan you are now we're
17:05cooking with gas
17:06now we're cooking so what we've got to do is clean that is give that a good cleanup with some
17:11sandpaper
17:11hone it basically that's your job okay oh that blasted war wound
17:16uh yeah again and he's left us with the messy job let's get some brag hey look so we are
17:22in with
17:23a shout now this will be running within an hour sounds like famous last words but not when it comes
17:30from the milliard over the next hour he gets the magneto sparking we grinds the valves beautiful
17:41and wiggles the cleaned up barrel back onto the piston
17:48this might actually work hey right your fingers clear around yeah i'll clear
17:52yes look at that perfect alan that's a good that's a good getting somewhere
17:59it's not perfect and needs the help of a well-placed screwdriver to get it running
18:05but an hour later alan milliard i can't believe it it's fixed it runs sell it oh this is darn
18:14it's already actually fast isn't it you and have come along and been our angel of mercy i think we
18:20could go rolling okay i think we can after lunch we head for my paddock go on skin now yes
18:40i think the clutch needs adjusting revs out in truth we have a few false starts
18:49that's it and misdemeanors alan you're going the wrong way it works going backwards
18:56should we do this the secret's going backwards
19:02early early but after a little push and tickle
19:08that's it it runs it runs now my paddock is more football pitch than cricket ground
19:18but we are officially flattening some grass
19:22and unofficially increasing global warming by at least a degree
19:28great high five look at that oh it runs it's all good it is ready for sale once it stops
19:36smoking
19:37come on hey look i'll tell you what i'm going to give you some good news yeah now that's running
19:42we
19:43can sell that and the guzzy we can start restoring in the next millennium all right fantastic you're a
19:52genius al genius
19:57next day we get a punter my mate spence his gardener des has got a mold problem please take a
20:05closer look
20:06did you expect this or did you expect a nice sort of you know gold rolls royce
20:12des is obsessed by a croquet lawn and the moles have been at it well hopefully he will carry on
20:19his
20:19theme your gardener of actually enjoying vintage garden machinery because this does need
20:27well it needs a proper going over we got it going but it took forever alan had to rebuild the
20:32engine
20:32but you know now it's a classic at 700 pounds 700 quid there's my god what's he got me into
20:42all right that's the best roller you've ever been on it is properly special where's the accelerator
20:47there there there it's a thumbs accelerator look at that yeah that's it mate uh now supposedly well
20:53that's a break supposedly i don't think i don't think it works have you got a service history with
20:58it no spence please look lad i i can't only stretch to about 600 quid for this bit of kit
21:04because they'll
21:05keep des yeah yeah great we'll have it delivered free of charge once he gets it going properly it's
21:12going to be a lovely thing well there we are we'll give it a good home see if it lasts
21:16more than a week
21:16yeah marvelous hey you wouldn't be interested in a motor guzzy well look at that let's go and have
21:22a look cool blimey oh well that's the result isn't it i thought i was going to have to weigh
21:32that roller
21:33in so look we've made 50 quid he's saved the day and i've still got the guzzy happy days
22:00i'll see you in the next one
