00:04one of the world's most passionate dancers arrives on the shores of the Caspian.
00:09For six days, Azerbaijan's historic Old City and other venues across the capital
00:13become a backdrop for the country's first international tango festival,
00:18bringing together dancers, musicians and enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond.
00:24Born in Argentina in the late 19th century, tango has traveled far beyond its origins,
00:31becoming a global language of movement, emotion and connection.
00:35That tradition finds a new audience as performers and visitors celebrate a dance that transcends borders and cultures.
00:43So tango changed my life and this passion makes me feel alive.
00:48And this is something, sometimes when we walk in the street, we see people and we say,
00:52Why don't they dance tango?
00:55Because they will be more happy or the happiness that people feel they could bring it to tango.
01:03So we need more people dancing tango in the world.
01:06For many, the appeal lies in something increasingly rare in modern life, genuine human connection.
01:14Light for them, dance tango, folklore. That's why I think they loved it.
01:21It's very open. It's super, so culture is very calorosa, very warm.
01:30That's why people from Baku, from Azerbaijan, like tango or folklore.
01:42Events like these shows how culture can travel from beyond the place where it was born.
01:48Here in Baku, tango is doing what it has done for more than a century,
01:51bringing people together through music, movement and a shared experience that needs no translation.
02:03People can speak with dancing about their emotions and feelings.
02:10And this, I think, is very well connected to each other.
02:14And, of course, this is a great community of tango, which travels around the world.
02:22And now it's time to gather them together, from Europe to Asia.
02:29And where do they do it? Not in Baku.
02:31As the music played into the evening, dancers took to the floor beneath centuries of history.
02:38So in tango we have, we call it tanda, with one tango, three minutes, and then stops the tango,
02:43you speak a little bit and then you dance again.
02:46And so that magic that is happening at that moment, and you close your eyes and you deliver your soul
02:54to…
02:55Yeah, you make one dream in three minutes.
02:57Exactly, exactly.
02:59For a few summer nights in Baku, the spirit of Buenos Aires feels right at home.
