00:53earlier like i'm watching last night with the red card and all these things i don't know what the
00:57hell all the rules are and i'm mad about it that's got to be like the casual football fan right

01:02highly invested in the outcome of a super bowl not watching any other football the rest of the year
01:08right and really not fully understanding what the hell is going on but i go through life with that
01:15feeling but anyhow yeah um this has been incredible and not just watching the u.s play which has been
01:23greatly entertaining just the whole impact the world cup is having on this country at a time
01:29honestly when we need a little bit of uh uh distraction you know because it's gotten pretty
01:38contentious out there i see and seeing all these europeans and other parts of the world come to the u

01:44and really understand who we are and what this place is about as opposed to what they've always
01:49been told is is really meaningful to me i think it's really cool fitz what's going on in manhattan
01:57nowadays i i anything is is this kind of the slow time yeah it really is i mean uh and
02:05particularly
02:05when you get into july because that's when football coaches can kind of take vacation it's the only time
02:10of year um you know basketball recruiting's all wrapped up and we're just left in this period of
02:17you know sit and wait till we get to something more substantive which you know luckily is big
02:2412 media days which is coming up then we then we start our own narratives right yeah i mean this

02:30is when the whole expansion realignment talk was just pure gold i mean it filled our need for football
02:37without actually having football but we're getting there real quick i mean media days is just right
02:42around the corner down in frisco and uh we'll all be talking about what happens there quite a bit
02:48that's right are you going i will not be able to go due to my health but my guys will

02:53i'll be hopefully anchored in the studio providing content from here all right i'll keep an eye on them
02:58uh let's let's let's make up something to talk about here this is something our pal kellis brought up
03:02uh in one of his newsletters that uh when he finds random topics to talk about in the summer like
03:08we're trying to do uh iowa state's gonna sell beer that's a talking point around the big 12
03:13iowa state hasn't been selling beer i know but shocking to say out loud you know who else hasn't
03:18been selling beer kansas state has not been selling beer inside the football stadium why is that and
03:24what does this mean for k-state okay first let's clarify they do sell beer inside the stadium
03:30not much but but the the peons can't have it at their seat yeah i mean if you're if you're
03:38in a
03:38suite or you know in one of those donor areas drink anything you want quite often the suites are
03:44personally stocked but for everyone else you have a uh tailgate terrace that faces the parking lot that
03:52you can drink on i i think the whole thing's absurd and i don't know why gene taylor is so
03:57dead set on not having beer in the stadium when he has it in the arena for basketball in the
04:03stadium
04:03for baseball uh it is a big reason why the problem of halftime pass pass outs as is leaving the
04:12stadium
04:12has occurred people go out to drink particularly the younger crowd that you know can't afford
04:18to be in a suite maybe they're just students and they go out and hammer drinks and sometimes don't
04:23come back in for the second half just because they're having a great time you need to sell it
04:29you just do it's a it's a reality um and i don't know what the pushback is against him and
04:36kansas
04:36state doing it but it's got to stop it's almost like it's a a class thing you know we we
04:42pay for
04:42these suites we should get this privilege that no one else has and i'm kind of sick of it
04:46let let the people drink give them cake and beer well it i i mean i i suppose i get
04:55it to some degree
04:57but i really don't think it's been a problem anywhere no that i've heard they sell beer at
05:05shocker basketball games and it's fine nobody's ever out of control it's not like you know it's
05:13the problem is if somebody's going to have a problem and get rowdy it's going to happen because
05:17of the tailgate before the game not because they're having a beer during the game right and
05:22be honest here the price of the beers will be you know it'll you have to be highly invested
05:30literally to get drunk you know in the stadium and plus this isn't the nfl crowd this is college
05:36crowds and you're right i haven't heard of we see plenty of videos of brawling in nfl stadiums but
05:43i've never heard of that in a college game maybe i've just missed it uh other newsmakers fits let's
05:50just keep manufacturing things here dean wade got paid uh local guy at our neck of the woods in you
05:57know central kansas uh western kansas where's he list up on the on the k-state nba list yeah he's
06:06really you know it's funny it's been like 10 years hasn't it yeah uh dean is one of those guys
06:14that needed the pressure removed of kind of being a star um so he could just go play not think
06:21about
06:21just go play and he certainly is not a star in the nba he's just a really darn good player
06:25and as he's grown into that role his game has grown uh it does not surprise me that dean wade

06:32hung around the nba he is tall athletic really basketball smart he just always lacked uh that
06:42cut out definition of who he was and what he needs to do he overshared the ball he hesitated to
06:48shoot
06:48he was overthinking things and now he's just playing and man it's beautiful i'm happy for him
06:53uh landed a new new deal i i love this conversation i've thought about this a lot with him
07:00if we had an all-time k-state starting five is dean wade in that starting five poland's in
07:08beasley's in mitch richmond is in i think marquise noel could run the point is dean wade the five
07:15if you're talking modern basketball yes if you're talking uh historically you know poland and beasley
07:24are the only ones close to that uh that's just how good it was back in the day but in
07:29terms of
07:30modern let's say the bramwich coliseum era uh which you know roughly divides things in half because
07:37it's been open almost as long as a hearn which is crazy to say uh but yeah probably really close
07:45you can go back and and grab some other really good ones that you know from the early years got
07:50steve henson running around um another local guy were black were blackman and richmond both
07:55were they both bramwich guys uh did richmond play one season in bramwich richmond was the late 80s
08:03yeah i know that's right when it opened up it opened up with lon kruger i think it was i

08:09he did play one season in bramwich i'd have to go back and look uh blackman was well before bramwich
08:15coliseum uh and he would be on that list also along with guys like chucky williams and mike evans and
08:21even going back to bob boozer it would certainly be on the list and jack parr and other greats from
08:27the black and white era i i asked i asked the question because sometimes i don't know that wade is
08:35properly appreciated he was a hell of a college basketball player he really was and i won't be
08:42really blunt uh i have long been curious what bill self would have made him into oh man because
08:49that is his biggest gift is is seeing what someone can be the same thing bill snyder did
08:56and bringing that out uh and um that's not a shot at bruce weber i i bill self is one
09:05of the elite
09:05coaches in the history of college basketball in terms of player development uh you know we we see it
09:11with other kids from kansas who are now in the league who were good players coming out of high school
09:15great players but are are making their mark in the league and and uh i would have loved to have
09:22seen that uh even though i'm a k-state guy would jerome tang have offered dean wade no no um
09:30and in
09:32hindsight i'll be blunt i i'm so glad bruce weber did because he too didn't recruit this area and
09:40certainly um certainly kansas city which is not where dean's from at very much at all i missed out
09:46on a lot of prospects um but yeah it's uh you got to recruit inside out and i think we're
09:52going to
09:53see the new staff do that speaking of uh alumni basketball players let's cue you in on the
09:57conversation we just had fits because you'll you'll have a good opinion on this uh wichita state uh tbt
10:03is coming up wichita state has announced that they will be hanging a tbt banner in coke arena because
10:08they won it last year uh k-state gets a lot of slack for hanging nit appearances in their arena
10:14uh where do you stand on a tbt banner that that makes me cringe worse than nit crap that's not
10:21really your team i mean that's a alumni team but they're even mighty i don't know what their
10:26situation is another k-state team occasionally has players that never played at k-state to fill out
10:31the roster there was three players on the roster last year that played minutes in the championship game
10:36i believe that played at wichita state the rest were just their buddies see that's wrong come on
10:41they played it at they played it at coke arena they played the championship and won the championship
10:46at coke arena i know i know but it's still not really your university team it's like i you know
10:54in some ways it's like hanging the the club rugby teams banner you know it has your name on it

11:50all the nba and nhl championships that have been won in there man you know what's funny about that is
11:55it was built to be nhl arena and people don't understand that uh the locker rooms are hockey
12:01in mind but anyhow that has been a wildly profitable arena it's without having to have a pro team in
12:09there look at what kansas city's doing for this world cup i mean come on like you want to you

12:14to ensure sellouts for all your games go to kansas city like that this it's the most sports crazy city
12:21right i agree i agree it's wild they're they're gonna expand casey current stadium they just built
12:27the thing uh all that and i feel bad for sporting because their stadium is completely landlocked at
12:34this point have you been to a current game no no i'm again it is tailgate it is awesome so

12:42with again my girls play they took like 30 shots on goal like it was so much fun they have

12:49cool beer like it was a great time uh the travel in and out of there was kind of uh

13:02for colin klein right out of the gate we know he's doing well recruiting i mean to me it's the
13:07obvious
13:07answer and that is to get more out of avery johnson is there a different answer to that question
13:14yeah i think it's a bigger picture answer i think continuing to establish the culture he wants and
13:19i know that's kind of an overused word but you can really see him trying to bring back some of
13:25the
13:25snyder era toughness um disciplined hard grueling work um that's not a shot against chris climate it's
13:34just it's a formula that worked and some people say is dated and the young head coach doesn't think
13:40it's so dated and so if he can continue to grow that i think k-state football is going to
13:46be in
13:46good hands because you're right he is recruiting extremely well and they i i think they're going
