Ongar plane crash: Police confirm two dead in flight that 'did not return'

00:00Yesterday lunchtime, Tuesday 30th June, a small aircraft took off from Northwield Airfield
00:06on what was expected to be a short journey. The two-seat Cessna aircraft was carrying
00:12out a short flight experience but sadly it did not return. At 12.30pm we were contacted
00:20by members of the public who reported a small aircraft had crashed in a field off Mill Lane,
00:26Onga. Sadly we can now confirm that the two people on board have died.
00:34Formal identification has yet to take place. Due to the nature of the incident this is likely
00:39to be a complex process. Our focus is to establish what happened and give the families the answers
00:46they need while ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect. The investigation
00:52has continued overnight. Our detectives and forensic teams are working at scene in parallel
00:58with the Air Accident Investigations Branch.
