$100,000 worth of 'emergency and rescue' equipment is being sent to Venezuela, donated by two south-based businesses.

In collaboration with NGO SEWA International TT, Persad’s D Food King and Selina’s Marketing in Barrackpore have pooled resources to make the donation.

The trio says a lot of thought and planning went into deciding what was needed and what was relevant to the country’s needs following devastating double earthquakes last week.

00:12countries, NGOs and individuals have been offering relief in various ways.
00:17On Wednesday, Siwa International TT announced that through support of supermarket chain Passant's The Food King and Total Tools distributor
00:28Salinas Marketing in Barakpur,
00:30they're ready to ship $100,000 worth in much-needed tools and equipment.
00:37We have the gas generators, we have a pump, we have floor cutters, steel cutters, shovels.
00:44We have cordless tools for people who have to go far and try to cut in a space that can't
00:52take too much vibration and can collapse.
00:54And then we have the big heavy-duty hillsies and the big heavy-duty tools, the jackhammers that you need
01:00to break big walls and cut through steels, etc.
01:05President of the NGO, Reeva Antiloxing, says this is just the first round of donations,
01:12but they wanted to make it appropriate and relevant to what the country needs as rescue operations continue one week
01:20later.
01:21Speaking on behalf of one of the donors, Marketing Executive Ishvani Passat urged others to take similar action.
01:29Reliability matters.
01:31When volunteers and rescue workers are helping families and communities, they should have tools that they can depend on.
01:37But this contribution is not meant to end with us.
01:41We hope it encourages other businesses and organizations and individuals to ask one simple question.
