00:00It's over! And the Cubs have finally won it all!
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo!
00:06And today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 moments that sports teams managed to ascend to the
00:10status of legends.
00:18Number 10. Leicester City complete the most unlikely title run ever.
00:22Just one season before their stunning 2016 Premier League triumph, Leicester City were battling relegation.
00:28We were basically dead and buried.
00:30After powering their way to safety, they carried that momentum into the 2015-2016 campaign,
00:35slowly finding themselves on the brink of a historic title victory.
00:39Leicester dare to dream that the great escape is on.
00:43And that momentum just carried in because we found a way to win now.
00:47English football fans couldn't believe what they were watching, and yet when May arrived, the most unlikely of champions had
00:52emerged.
00:52With 5,000 to 1 odds at the start of the season, their climb to glory made the entire squad
00:57and manager Claudio Ranieri nothing short of royalty to the club's fans from that point onwards.
01:03Leicester City! Leicester City are the champions of England!
01:09Number 9. India wins the 1983 Cricket World Cup Final.
01:12With the right team and the right timing, the popularity of a sport can truly explode in a country to
01:17entirely new levels.
01:18The Indians are loving every moment of this.
01:19For India, their heroics in the 1983 Cricket World Cup set in motion a chain of events that led the
01:24sport to become a national obsession.
01:26They came into the tournament as underdogs, but with the leadership of Kapil Dev,
01:30they overcame their opposition to meet the fearsome West Indies in the final.
01:33Beautifully caught. He's hit that away to within 15 yards of the boundary, and the Indian skipper has done a
01:43tremendous job to get back there.
01:45Despite oddsmakers counting them out, they pulled off a massive victory, turning the team into a trailblazing force that radically
01:51shifted the country's sporting identity.
01:54And that's out. Yes, it's all over this time.
01:57Number 8. The Springboks United Nations Through Rugby Glory.
02:00There's no denying the unifying power of sports, but in the case of South Africa's 1995 World Cup conquest,
02:05there was a truly profound level of political and cultural impact.
02:08The atmosphere at the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final was nothing short of electric. It was an amazing place.
02:16The tournament took place just one year after the country's first democratic election.
02:19And while the Springboks were once associated with division, this year was different.
02:22Their victory over New Zealand in the final was a major moment for the nation's growth.
02:26There it is. Francois Pina. And Nelson Mandela is cheering along with the whole of the stadium.
02:37To this day, Nelson Mandela's appearance in the Springbok jersey remains an enduring image of reconciliation and progress.
02:43Few sporting teams in history have had this type of impact outside of the actual games being contested.
02:47Not in my wildest dreams did I think that Nelson Mandela would pitch up at the final wearing the Springbok
02:52on his heart.
02:53And when he walked into our changing room to say good luck to us.
02:56And he turned around and my number was on his back. It was just an amazing feeling.
03:02Number 7. Liverpool rise from the dead in Istanbul.
03:05No list of the greatest footballing comebacks in history would be complete without a mention of the miracle of Istanbul.
03:11AC Milan were the front runners in their Champions League showdown with Liverpool storming to a 3-0 lead relatively
03:16early in the contest.
03:17There was an air of dejection from the travelling English support who began to suspect that Milan were about to
03:21run away with the game.
03:22However, in the second half bolstered by the leadership of Steven Gerrard, Liverpool mounted a comeback fighting their way to
03:27a 3-3 scoreline before winning it on penalties.
03:30It was a result that sent their fans into hysterics, making the entire squad heroes to the club's fan base
03:35for years afterwards.
03:37Number 6. The Patriots complete the greatest Super Bowl comeback ever.
03:40Under the bright lights of America's biggest sporting event, every ounce of pressure is doubled.
03:44This is not what you want to see.
03:46However, that didn't stop Tom Brady and the Patriots from producing a truly miraculous turnaround at Super Bowl 51.
03:51Overcoming a deficit of 28-3 is almost impossible under any circumstances.
03:55But they pulled victory from the jaws of defeat in shocking fashion.
04:00Brady, end zone touchdown!
04:02With Brady leading the charge, the Patriots storm back to somehow win by a margin of six points.
04:07If ever there was a game that sums up the idea of never say die, this was it.
04:12He's in! Patriots win the Super Bowl! Brady has his fifth! What a comeback!
04:20Number 5. Diego Maradona at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
04:23The storied career of Diego Maradona was filled to the brim with legendary achievements, but even by his standards, the
04:291986 FIFA World Cup was insane.
04:31He was a truly outstanding talent, and the ability he possessed was beyond compared.
04:37Alongside his Argentine teammates, he was able to lead the team to glory through some of the most incredible performances
04:42in the history of the game.
04:43Turn past two, and runs away from Reid, and then gets past Butcher, and past another, and Maradona goes on!
04:53And scores! One of the greatest goals the World Cup has ever seen!
04:58Don't get us wrong, there was quality all over the pitch, but Maradona was taking things to another level.
05:03Scoring two of the most famous goals in football history in the same match just minutes apart is impressive.
05:07However, if Argentina didn't cap it all off by taking home the trophy, it wouldn't carry the same significance.
05:13Argentina are champions of the world again! An incredible finish to this game!
05:25Number four, Michael Jordan and the Bulls finally reach basketball immortality.
05:29The road that led Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls to become the icons that they became in the 1990s
05:33wasn't as short as some people believe.
05:35They're all thinking about that championship that's oh so close at hand. I asked Jordan about winning it at home,
05:39and he said,
05:40you know what, we want to win it whenever and wherever we can, and we feel like we can win
05:44it tonight.
05:45For years beforehand, they came up against brick wall after brick wall, and even the individual brilliance of Jordan wasn't
05:51enough to carry them over the finish line.
05:52In 1991 though, it all came together.
05:54And the Chicago Bulls have won their first ever NBA championship!
06:01After finally beating the two-time champions, the Detroit Pistons, they managed to overcome the Lakers in five games to
06:06take home gold.
06:07It was a win that made them heroes to the Chicago people. Little did they know that five more titles
06:12would follow before the decade was through.
06:14The celebration has begun in the Chicago locker room!
06:18Number three, Manchester United complete football's greatest treble.
06:21While the concept of pulling off a treble seems simple, the difficulty of winning your domestic league, domestic cup, and
06:26then also the Champions League could not be more difficult.
06:28For Manchester United, after becoming champions of England and winning the FA Cup, they went right down to the wire
06:33with Bayern Munich at Barcelona's Camp Nou.
06:36After the German giants pulled ahead with the lead, it took a later equalizer to save United from defeat.
06:41Despite extra time looming, they opted to press their advantage, and in one of the most dramatic last-minute goals
06:45imaginable,
06:46Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sealed the treble, one of the great full-season performances from a European club.
06:51Number two, the Red Sox reversed baseball history against the Yankees.
06:54Out of all of the great sporting curses, few stood the test of time quite like the Curse of the
06:58Bambino.
06:59The Curse of the Bambino started the Red Sox, sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $100,000.
07:05Ruth, of course, won four World Series with the Yanks, hit 659 home runs with them.
07:10It took the Red Sox 86 years to win their next World Series.
07:14Between the years 1918 and 2004, the Boston Red Sox had failed to win the World Series.
07:18Their fans began to genuinely believe that something otherworldly was working against their team,
07:22and yet, just after the turn of the century, everything changed.
07:25The Boston Red Sox have won the pennant.
07:29After going three games behind their rivals, the New York Yankees,
07:32the Red Sox mounted a comeback that kick-started a charge to the championship.
07:36After vanquishing the Yankees, they swept the Cardinals to prove once and for all
07:39that curses have no true place in the world of sport.
07:42The Boston Red Sox are world champions.
07:45Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
07:48Sergio Aguero delivers Manchester City's most dramatic coronation.
07:52The moment that the city of Manchester officially turned blue.
08:10Spain's tiki-taka era reaches its unstoppable peak.
08:12International football hits a totally new level of technical brilliance.
08:15The Spanish are desperate to hear the final whistle.
08:19There it is! Spain are world champions, 2010!
08:24The Eagles and Nick Foles shocked the Patriots' dynasty.
08:27The moment when footballing empire was toppled.
08:29Time runs out!
08:31This is the end of the game.
08:34And for the Philadelphia Eagles, the long drought is over.
08:40Finally!
08:41The Miracle Mets shocked baseball and win the World Series,
08:44when the Mets managed to utterly rewrite baseball's championship lore.
08:47The Mets are the world champions!
08:52Gary Kuzman being mobbed!
08:56Look at this scene!
08:57LeBron James delivered Cleveland's long-awaited championship.
09:00One of the modern era's greatest stars achieves major history.
09:03It's over! It's over!
09:05Cleveland is a city of champions once again!
09:08The Cavaliers are NBA champions!

09:24Number 1. The Miracle on Ice Redefines American Hockey Forever
09:27There are unlikely victories, and then there's a category entirely reserved for the moment known as the Miracle on Ice.
09:33At the height of the Cold War, the Soviet team was considered virtually unbeatable, composed of seasoned professionals playing a
09:38systematized style of hockey.
09:40The hockey team was better than everybody else.
09:43They won their games with ease. There was nothing to celebrate for them. They were supposed to win.
09:48The United States team, largely made up of amateur and collegiate players under Coach Herb Brooks, were far less credentialed.
09:53They were treating some of us not with respect.
09:57And I think in the world of sport, you have to respect all your opponents.
10:00So I just kept telling them, someone's gonna beat them, someone's gonna beat them, someone's gonna beat them.
10:05When the teams met at Lake Placid, the Americans somehow found it within themselves to do the unthinkable.
10:10Beating the favorites when nobody believed they could.
10:12The word miracle is used quite a lot in sports. In this case, it is fully deserved.
10:15We restored the pride and patriotism that makes this country so great, not even knowing it.
