00:02A 29-year-old Democratic Socialist just ended a Denver congressional era that's been going on
00:07as long as she's been alive. Malat Kieros defeated Congresswoman Diana DeGette in Colorado's first
00:13district Democratic primary. DeGette has held up to the seat for nearly 30 years. Kieros is now
00:19heavily favored to win in November in the deep blue Denver district. Her victory adds to a left
00:25wing streak inside the Democratic Party. Kieros is the third progressive challenger to defeat a
00:30sitting house member in eight days after two wins in New York. If we organize and show no fear in
00:37standing up for what's right, that is the message that Denver has sent to both parties, to Donald
00:45Trump, and to the entire country. But Colorado's primary night also showed that progressive momentum
00:52had its limits. Democratic Senator John Hickenlooper beat the more progressive state Senator Julie
00:58Gonzalez. In the Democratic race for governor, Attorney General Phil Weiser defeated Senator
01:03Michael Bennett while campaigning on his record suing the Trump administration. And in the
01:07battleground 8th district, Democratic State Rep Manny Rutenel, a progressive, won the nomination to face
01:13Republican Rep Gabe Evans in November. The results show the party's left flank gaining ground but
01:19not sweeping the map.
