00:00One of the toughest decisions I ever had to make was in 2008, I think I had like $40 million
00:04left
00:05or something from the PayPal sale. And it's like, okay, I can put it all on SpaceX or all on
00:12Tesla
00:12and increase probably either one would survive or I could let it. To me, the companies like kids,
00:19you know, it's like, it's not like just a company to me. So it's sort of like, if you've got
00:23two
00:23kids, like, how could you really say, okay, we're going to let one kid starve, you know? So I was
00:28like, couldn't bring myself to say, I'm going to, you know, definitely that company's going to die
00:33or definitely that company's going to die. So I ended up splitting the money and give the
00:37$20 million to Tesla and $20 million to SpaceX. But that could have ended up being a super dumb
00:43decision and both companies could have gone bankrupt as a result. So we managed to get this
00:47like squeaked through with a convertible debt round that basically just matched the money that I put
00:53in, which is everything I had. And then I had like zero money and I didn't even have a house
00:56or anything.
