00:00Sony's latest financial report is in, and the company is keen to tell investors just
00:04how much its business is going to be improved by AI, with some specifics about how the tech
00:08is being used in games like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
00:11Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino says,
00:15Game developers are automating repetitive workloads, improving software engineering productivity,
00:19and accelerating areas like quality assurance, 3D modelling, and animations through new AI-powered
00:25tools.
00:25That includes an animation tool called Mockingbird, which quickly animates 3D facial models
00:30based on the performance capture.
00:31Nishino emphasises that this is not a replacement for human performers, but it optimises how
00:36we process the data from these live captures.
00:39With Mockingbird, animation work that would have taken hours can now be completed in a
00:43fraction of a second.
00:44This isn't purely theoretical either.
00:46We have already seen the teams at Naughty Dog, San Diego Studio, and others adopt the tool,
00:50including in released titles like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Nishino explains.
00:54While the stink of purely AI-generated content looms large, this is a case of AI tools helping
00:59to automate tasks so that developers can focus their attention on more creative work.
01:04That's why you won't find an AI disclosure on a Ryzen Steam store page, as Valve doesn't
01:08require Dez to be upfront about efficiency games from AI, as opposed to fully AI-generated
01:13content.
