00:06from Chinese manufacturers, according to Reuters.
00:09The ban expands on a 2022 ban on new models from Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision, and Dahua.
00:18It covers older models of equipment used for public safety, government facility security,
00:23critical infrastructure surveillance, and other national security purposes.
00:27The FCC said the expanded ban will take effect in early July and is needed to protect national security
00:33by reducing risks to the U.S. communications sector.
00:37Americans may continue using equipment they already own.
00:40The Chinese embassy in Washington and the companies had not commented by the time of the report.
00:45The FCC has also targeted Chinese tech through bans on new models of Chinese drones and consumer routers.
00:52It is also considering restrictions on U.S. telecom carriers interconnecting with Chinese telecom firms,
00:58which could effectively bar the Chinese firms from operating U.S. data centers.
