00:00We're keeping an eye out for tropical development this week
00:03from the northeast Gulf and then off the coast of the Carolinas.
00:09It's called homegrown development.
00:11This time of the year, this is how you get development.
00:13The jet stream coming on south, either producing upper lows or frontal boundaries
00:18that kickstarts the process of getting showers and thunderstorms.
00:23Where do you see that happen?
00:24In the Gulf, Caribbean, and off the southeast coast of the United States.
00:27That's what history tells us.
00:28Those showers and thunderstorms form, and if they could sit over those open waters
00:33for about 72 hours, we can get tropical development.
00:37Well, this week we're going to kind of see that.
00:39Underneath the belly of the strong upper high, you see that little yellow and orange area
00:45extending from the Atlantic into the Gulf?
00:47That's where we could see some development here.
00:51We have warm water in that location, low wind shear, enough moisture.
00:55The energy's not very strong, but maybe just strong enough to kick off tropical development.
