It's more than just a game; it's about preservation. This video explores the decision by multiple retailers to drop GTA 6, highlighting their commitment to physical media over 'code-in-a-box' releases.

00:00GTA 6 is, in effect, a digital-only release.
00:04You'll be able to buy physical boxes at retail come November,
00:07but those will only include a code to be redeemed for a digital copy of the game.
00:11For some boutique retailers that specialize in physical games,
00:14that doesn't exactly sound like a future worth supporting,
00:17which is why they've decided to drop GTA 6 pre-orders altogether.
00:21One of those stores is VGP,
00:23a Canadian retailer that's become prominent in the collecting scene
00:26for its regular restocks of rare physical titles
00:29and its willingness to document such minutiae as, say,
00:33specific cart revisions of Nintendo-published Switch games.
00:35And it has a standing policy of not carrying code-in-box releases.
00:39That's not changing, even for a juggernaut like GTA 6.
00:43For nearly 40 years, VGP has been committed to supporting physical media
00:47and preserving the value of physical game ownership,
00:50the retailer says in a post on Blue Sky.
00:52As part of that commitment, our company policy is that we do not carry physical products
00:57for video game consoles that contain only a digital download code.
01:01A similar statement came from another retailer I was much less familiar with,
01:04the US-based Lootbox Gaming.
01:06We will not be supporting the release of GTA 6, the company says in a post on X.
01:11When we started LBG, it was out of a love for our favorite form of media,
01:15gaming, as well as the preservation of said media.
01:18If a product can't honor the people who pay their hard-earned money to purchase it,
01:22then we have no business trying to sell it to our customers,
01:25whom we value above anything else.
01:27Will you still be buying GTA 6?
