00:00We have two models. In the first one, all frets are movable and removable, and you can play any tuning
00:06system you want.
00:07You are not limited to 12 semitones per octave. There are infinite possibilities.
00:13Hey Guitar World, my name is Tolga Ançoğlu, and this is my adjustable microtonal guitar.
00:21I designed the first version back in 2008, and it got the first prize at Georgia Tech's Gottman Musical Instrument
00:28Competition in 2014.
00:31And in 2021, with my friend Hakan Görener, we renewed the design and called it version 2.0.
00:40The second one is the bending friendly model, where you have fixed 12 frets per octave and movable in-between
00:48tones.
00:50You can also convert any frets into fretless.
00:56Why did I need to design this guitar back in 2008?
01:00First of all, I needed to play microtones, but I didn't want to change the timbre of the classical guitar
01:06or the electric guitar.
01:07So microtonal guitars don't change the timbre of the guitars that they are applied to, in contrast to fretless guitars.
01:15Secondly, I want to play thousands of Turkish microtonal folk music and makam music songs on the guitar.
01:22I was also interested in just intonation and Renaissance and Baroque period tunings, where you have more natural major thirds.
01:35Here is the intro of my latest single, Makam Lofi, where I play the microtones of the Turkish makams such
01:42as Hüseyini and Sabah.
