00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05It was an oppressive night last night with high humidity and also high temperatures.
00:10And into today the warnings, the extreme warnings for heat continue.
00:15We have a broad amber warning covering most of England and Wales away from northern England
00:20and this red zone here. This is a red extreme heat warning, warning of a danger to life.
00:26Those temperatures will be so high, particularly through this afternoon.
00:30The temperatures will be higher across Northern Ireland and Southern Scotland as we head through the day as well.
00:35We are likely to see, yes, temperatures climbing towards 30 across these parts,
00:40but the high 30s across this red zone as we head through into the afternoon.
00:44Sunshine for most, but then the heat gradually wanes from the west through Friday.
00:49We hang on to that amber warning across much of England, away from northern England.
00:54And then through Saturday, temperatures remain high across eastern counties of England.
00:59Through this morning then, a few things to note.
01:01First of all, we do have some showery rain just extending across the far northwest of Scotland.
01:06It will turn heavy later.
01:07Low clouds has been lapping along the shoreline of eastern Scotland and eastern England,
01:12burning back, coming and going as we head through this morning.
01:15You have a bit of an onshore breeze here, keeping things pleasantly warm,
01:19if not very warm, but not hot.
01:21But you just step inland, and that's where the temperatures will intensify yet again as we head through this morning
01:27and into this afternoon.
01:29Strong sunshine for most high levels of UV and those temperatures rising very quickly through the morning into the afternoon.
01:38Through the afternoon, let's pick up on that rain continuing across the far north of Scotland.
01:43But here are those temperatures.
01:45So temperatures will be higher than recently across Northern Ireland, as well as central and southern areas of Scotland.
01:52One or two spots could see 29, if not 30.
01:55For most of England and Wales, temperatures rising into the 30s, the high 30s,
01:59anywhere from the Midlands down towards central southern England, as well as southeastern areas of Wales.
02:04Top temperature, possibly 38, even a chance of a 39 degrees Celsius.
02:09So very, very hot conditions.
02:12The advice is to do not exert yourself, drink lots of water, and try and stay in the shade and
02:18the cool if you can.
02:20Now, through this afternoon and into evening time, we watch as some thunderstorms develop across the Channel Islands.
02:28Here it's also very hot indeed.
02:30And the air is primed for thunderstorms through this evening and overnight.
02:34They're likely to migrate towards central southern England, the west country in particular.
02:38And there's a yellow thunderstorm warning issued from 6pm this evening.
02:42So expect some torrential downpours, gusty winds, thunder as well as lightning.
02:49And this plume will extend towards Wales, the west Midlands, through evening time and overnight.
02:55At the same time, we'll see some heavier pulses of showery rain across the north and the west of Scotland,
03:01perhaps just clipping the west of Northern Ireland as well, with the risk of thunder here.
03:05It's going to be another very warm night, difficult for sleeping, muggy conditions, temperatures falling very, very slowly as we
03:15see these thundery downpours extend across the country into the early hours of Friday morning.
03:21Here's your amber extreme heat warning as we head into Friday.
03:26Notice these are overnight temperatures, but 22 will be a temperature probably around 4 or 5 in the morning.
03:33So still higher than that as you go to bed overnight and into the early hours.
03:37So some very oppressive heat likely with that high humidity air as well into Friday morning.
03:44And a warm night for Northern Ireland, central and southern areas of Scotland, slightly fresher further north as well.
03:49And watch out for those thundery downpours.
03:52So that's the picture into Friday morning.
03:55It's going to be another very muggy day and we will see some very high temperatures yet again.
04:00Through the morning though, some thundery downpours continue and extend northwards.
04:05Strong sunshine across England and Wales and we'll see some fine weather across the far north-west of Scotland.
04:11The clouds will break here.
04:12That amber warning extends for most of England away from the west country.
04:17Wales seeing slightly less hot conditions.
04:20But look at this, temperatures still climbing into the mid-30s across the Midlands towards eastern counties.
04:26And that amber warning continues into Saturday as well.
04:29At the same time, there will be some showers as we head into the weekend.
04:33Some sunshine coming through.
04:34Still very warm across England and Wales.
04:37Markedly fresher towards the north as well as the west with some showery bursts through Saturday and then into Sunday.
04:44So all in all, things are changing from the west.
04:46It will be a slow process though across more eastern counties because even on Sunday,
04:52we are likely to see temperatures across the east around 27 degrees Celsius, the high teens elsewhere.
04:57So here's a summary of your weather into the weekend.
05:01Remember, we do have the 10-day trend.
05:03You can check that out on YouTube.
05:05Take care and I'll see you again soon.
