00:00Rochelle with the weather forecast.
00:02Thanks, Deesha. Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago.
00:06I hope you guys stay dry on this wet day
00:09because we got the showers from last night into today, like I told you.
00:13And over the last 24 hours in the vicinity and across TNT,
00:18upwards of 700 lightning flashes were detected due to thunderstorm
00:23associated with the passage of a tropical wave.
00:26TNT confirmed that Tuesday night's electrical dip across Trinidad
00:31was due to lightning across central Trinidad.
00:34Moving on to conditions tonight, you can expect some cloudy periods
00:38with intervals of showers with minimum temperatures at 24 degrees in Trinidad
00:42and 25 in Tobago.
00:45And tomorrow, you will be waking up to some early morning showers.
00:48So if you're leaving home early to go to work or school,
00:52walk with the umbrellas and then you can put it away
00:55as the rain will give way to a mostly sunny, hazy and breezy day
00:59with maximum temperatures of 33 degrees in Trinidad and 32 in Tobago.
01:05So, so far, I told you to expect some rain, the sun, some breeze
01:10and now I'm saying expect a whole lot of dust as well
01:14as a significant concentration of Saharan dust is expected.
01:18So, of course, sensitive persons should take the necessary precautions.
01:23Looking ahead at our two favourite days of the week,
01:26Friday will be sunny, hazy and breezy with cloudy intervals and showers.
01:30And while Saturday, things will get a bit gloomy with rarely cloudy and breezy conditions
01:36with occasional showers and the possibility of some thunderstorm activity as well.
01:41So, our sun times now in Trinidad, sunrises at 546 and 541 in Tobago
01:46and sunset at 631 in Trinidad and 628 in Tobago.
01:51And if you're planning on spending your day at the beach tomorrow,
01:55seas will be moderate with waves 2 metres to 2.5 metres in open waters
01:59and near 1 metre, occasionally choppy in sheltered areas.
02:03This is now time for your tight time.
02:15With all the thunder and lightning experienced last night, here's a quick did you know.
02:21Did you know that lightning doesn't always strike the tallest object?
02:24And that's because lightning follows the easiest path between the cloud and the ground.
02:30While tall objects like trees, towers and buildings are more likely to be struck,
02:36lightning can sometimes hit shorter objects, open ground or even water.
02:41For example, a tall tree may be next to a shorter tree,
02:44but lightning could still strike the shorter one if it provides a better path for the electrical discharge.
02:51Now, for some safety tips, remember,
02:55go indoors immediately if you hear thunder,
02:58stay away from open fields, beaches and hilltops,
03:01do not shelter under trees,
03:03get out of water, avoid using corded electrical appliances,
03:08stay away from windows and doors.
03:10And all to remember,
03:11when thunder roars, go indoors.
03:14Well, that's all for weather tonight.
03:16Sports News is up next with your boy Sachin.
