00:01It is another beautiful Sunday here in Miami.
00:04It doesn't get much better than that, folks.
00:06Welcome inside of Lone Depot Park, and happy Father's Day, everybody,
00:10to all the dads out there.
00:12You guys are the absolute best, and plenty of them at the ballpark this afternoon,
00:17hoping to watch the Miami Marlins sweep the San Francisco Giants.
00:22Ryan Gusto trying to pick up, as a Marlin, his first win.
00:26He had some as a member of the Astros, trying to get his first one in the Marlins uniform.
00:31Schmidt lifts one at a shallow right.
00:33Conine with a good break.
00:34He's coming on.
00:35He glides to the spot.
00:36He makes the catch on the tenth pitch of a 1-2-3 inning.
00:40Griffin Conine, he shows that he is back from the 60-day injured list.
00:441-2-3 go the Giants.
00:45We go to the bottom of the first.
00:47We're scoreless.
00:47It's the Giants' ace right-hander, and, man, has he been pitching well, Logan Webb.
00:51Yeah, last timeout.
00:53Season-high eight innings in the 5-1 victory over the Cubs.
00:56He's the stopper that the Giants need here to get them back on track.
00:59He got him with the sweeper.
01:01Webb gets the strikeout.
01:03Marlins go down in order.
01:04We are scoreless through one.
01:06Rafael Devers going to lead things off here in the top of the second against Ryan Gusto.
01:10That sinker is right at the top of the strike zone for strike three.
01:14Gusto punches out Devers looking.
01:16That's his first strikeout of the afternoon.
01:18One out.
01:19Lee aboard.
01:19Here's Willie Adamas.
01:20Swing and a miss.
01:21So that's a good pitch by Ryan Gusto when you have a free swinger
01:25and you get a couple of strikes on him.
01:27Go out of the zone.
01:28Perfect pitch.
01:29Two outs, and here's Chapman.
01:3096 paints the outside edge.
01:32They do get Chapman looking to end the inning for Gusto.
01:35No score.
01:36Bottom two here at Lone Depot Park.
01:37Kyle Stowers leading things off against the veteran right-hander for the Giants, Logan Webb.
01:42And Stowers has had some success in his career against Webb.
01:46Stowers flies this sinker deep to right center field.
01:50Way back and gone.
01:54Kyle Stowers was three for five with two doubles and a homer against Webb.
02:01He crushes a ball 426 feet.
02:05He might own him, and it's one-nothing fish in the bottom of the second.
02:09I think it's safe to say right now that Kyle Stowers owns Logan Webb.
02:14You couldn't get it out quick enough before he took him deep.
02:17How about those numbers against one of the best, Logan Webb?
02:21Four for six.
02:25426 feet.
02:26Well, if you're going to meet Logan Webb, his superpower is Command Jack.
02:31Right there, he left his sinker right over the heart of the plate.
02:34Kyle Stowers turned on it.
02:36106 miles per hour off the bat.
02:38Eighth home run of the season.
02:40And the Marlins out to a one-nothing lead.
02:42And that, folks, was a beauty of a bomb.
02:46Now here is Owen Casey.
02:49Got it.
02:49Changeup.
02:50Strike three.
02:51Now it's Estere Ruiz.
02:53Had himself a funky day yesterday.
02:54He was 0 for 2.
02:56Reached on catcher's interference.
02:57Was hit by a pitch.
02:59He struck him out with a changeup.
03:01Still had him set up.
03:02That was good pitching.
03:03But a run for the Marlins.
03:04They lead one-nothing.
03:05Ryan Gusto threw 28 pitches through his front two innings.
03:09He struck out the side, worked around a one-out walk in the top of the second.
03:13And he takes strike three on the outside corner.
03:16He forced strike down for Ryan Gusto.
03:17And now to the top of the order for Luis Arise.
03:20Line drive into left field base hit.
03:23Hustling over to cut it off is Ruiz.
03:25Arise is going to test him.
03:27The throw doesn't have much on it at all.
03:29It's a double.
03:30Aye, aye, aye, aye, aye.
03:31Yeah, gets it.
03:32Gets the fastball there.
03:342-2 fastball.
03:35Just drops the head right on it.
03:36Couple of two-out base runners.
03:38The double from Arise and the walk to Eldridge.
03:40And now it's the scorching hot Casey Schmidt.
03:43Line drive past the lunge of the first baseman.
03:46That's a hit.
03:47Arise is going to score.
03:49Around a third goes Eldridge.
03:51Schmidt stops at first.
03:52He knocks in the first Giants run.
03:54There you go.
03:55It's 1-1.
03:56It is a clutch.
03:57Two-out.
03:57RBI hit for Casey Schmidt.
03:59That's 10 hits and 18 at-bats for Casey.
04:04Mighty Casey on this road trip.
04:06Now Devers.
04:071-0 pitch is sprayed out to center.
04:09Hanging up for Jacob Marcy.
04:10He makes the catch about letter high on a liner.
04:13And the inning is over.
04:15So runners stranded at the corners.
04:16But a run comes in on the Schmidt single.
04:18We're through 2-1.
04:19Logan Webb pitches to Griffin Conine.
04:22Bottom of the fourth inning here in Miami.
04:24And the changeup from Logan Webb puts Griffin Conine away.
04:28Stowers at first with two outs.
04:30We're tied at one in the bottom of the fourth.
04:32Lopez knocks one through the right side.
04:34The base hit that's rolling out into the gap.
04:36Stowers is on his way to third.
04:38Gilbert slides.
04:39They're going to send Stowers.
04:40Here comes the throw to the plate.
04:41Not in time.
04:43A two-out run scoring double for Otto Lopez.
04:46Has given the Marlins the fourth inning lead.
04:49Man, that was a great piece of hitting right there.
04:51And honestly, I don't think that was the best pitching choice.
04:55Otto was able to shorten up.
04:56He was standing and he was sitting off speed.
04:58Was able to hit that cutter to the other side of the plate.
05:01Other side of the field and score that run.
05:02That was a typical Otto Lopez.
05:04Shorten up two strikes and get the job done.
05:07Heck of a job from Otto.
05:08It's base hit number 101.
05:10Of course, that paces Major League Baseball.
05:13And Stowers got on his horse to score from first on that two-out double.
05:18The change up to a rise.
05:22And Casey is retired.
05:25But the Marlins turn a two-out walk and a double into a run.
05:28Daniel Susack hit a fly ball to shallow right his first time.
05:31Got him.
05:32Good fastball.
05:33Nicely done.
05:33Well, that was a great pitch.
05:35Kind of showed him some soft stuff away at cutter.
05:38And then put him away with a really good four-seamer.
05:42Now, Gusto faces 18 hitters.
05:44He works four and a third.
05:45He gets six punch-outs.
05:46And we've got John King coming on to take on Luis Arise.
05:50Third time through.
05:51First pitch swinging is Arise.
05:53And this is a mile high in the air.
05:55To the back and to the left of the pitcher's mound.
05:58And Connor Norby puts a squeeze on out number two.
06:00Two away now here in the fifth.
06:01Marlins with a slim one-run advantage.
06:03And here is Eldridge.
06:050-1.
06:05That went a bouncing ball over to short.
06:06Otto's got that.
06:07He flips to the covering X second just to beat Gilbert.
06:10And the inning is over.
06:11Six to four on the fielder's choice.
06:13King comes on, throws three pitches, and gets two outs.
06:16Really good matchup in this game with Webb the way he's been pitching.
06:19Ryan Gusto, who's been struggling.
06:21But Gusto pitched well.
06:22He struck it out.
06:23The Mack down on strikes.
06:25That was another changeup.
06:26And now it's a nine-man Norby who flat out to right his first time up.
06:29And a fly ball to right this time.
06:31Back and toward the corner, Jung-Hoo Lee.
06:34And yes!
06:35Wow, Jung-Hoo Lee, he keeps making great catches behind Logan Webb.
06:40He went all the way into the corner, disappeared from our view,
06:44reached out almost like with his palm facing the sky,
06:48and caught it as the ball just dropped into his glove.
06:51That was a really, really hard play and a good play by Lee.
06:55Now the leadoff man, Marcy, has lined out to left, popped up to say,
06:59the runner going, and he got him!
07:02What a throw by Daniel Susak.
07:05What a throw from Susak on a rope.
07:08About as good as you can make it.
07:10That was really impressive.
07:12Back-to-back plays.
07:13Lee with the catch.
07:14Susak with the throw.
07:15Inning over.
07:16Two outs, base is empty, and Esther Ruiz will come up.
07:20It's been a very efficient day for Webb so far.
07:23Yeah, it's been great.
07:24I mean, he's attacked the strike zone, kept the ball down in the zone.
07:27Can't even say he made one mistake.
07:28I mean, he was trying to get ahead in the count.
07:30Stowers just put a good swing on it.
07:31First pitch of that at bat.
07:33Beyond that, I mean, he's pitched fantastic.
07:34He's driven to right.
07:38Lee squares up and catches.
07:40That's seven strong for Logan Webb.
07:42Well, here is Michael Peterson, on relief of Calvin Fauché, who replaced King, who replaced Gusto.
07:48Peterson allowed a couple of runs on two hits in an inning of work of Game 1.
07:52He was not seen yesterday.
07:54Caught!
07:55And cleared by Norby.
07:56Went up and one down for Peterson.
07:58Or line it hard to somebody.
08:00You know he was going to hit it.
08:01But, well played by Connor Norby, positioned just right.
08:04Nice to see Connor back in third today for the seventh time this season.
08:07Schmidt now 11 hits in his last 19 at bats, including two more today.
08:12Schmidt hits at the left center and deep.
08:15Marcy's going back.
08:17Warning track.
08:17He's got it.
08:19And the ballpark was just big enough to keep Schmidt in it.
08:22Marlins lead the Giants 2-1 as we go to the last half of the eighth inning.
08:26Logan Webb still out there for the Giants.
08:28Webb has only thrown 88 pitches.
08:31Shallow left and a base hit for Connor with one out here in the eighth.
08:36Marlins would love a little insurance.
08:37Good battle.
08:38Good job.
08:39Connor drops one in just in front of Schmidt.
08:42Giants are going to send Justin Vestige out for a Chad.
08:45Conine coming up.
08:46This will be just the second at bat of the game for Miami with a runner in scoring position.
08:52Here's Conine meeting over.
08:54He chops one to first Devers right to the bag.
08:59Logan Webb.
09:00What an effort by him.
09:01Eight complete.
09:03It's up to the Giants offense, though.
09:04We go to the ninth.
09:05Down 2-1.
09:06Lake Bakker started the series opener on Friday.
09:10And now he's looking to finish it.
09:11He is out there for his first save opportunity of the year.
09:14He converted three of four last season.
09:16Well, he knows the importance of picking up those saves.
09:18That first batter.
09:19You got a tough one in Rafi Devers, too.
09:22All four.
09:23Bakker was ahead of him.
09:25Nothing in two.
09:26Now, Rafael Devers is aboard.
09:28We'll see if someone's going to run for him.
09:30The answer is yes.
09:32Get a pitch runner.
09:33Jonah Cox comes in to pinch run for Rafael Devers.
09:37Devers' day is done.
09:39Cox, the 24-year-old from the state of Colorado, two for two in the stolen base department in his
09:44first 14 major league games.
09:46And Devers is trying to send Cox back to the dugout.
09:49Not happy.
09:50He literally waved him away.
09:52He did.
09:53He does not want any part of a...
09:55He didn't want anybody touching him either.
09:56Nope.
09:57A little ticked.
09:57Now it's Adamas seeing Lake Bakker.
10:00Adamas is 0 for 3 with a couple of punch outs so far.
10:03Ground ball to third.
10:04Sonoha goes down to second for one.
10:06The throw to first.
10:08Got him!
10:09Game-ending double play.
10:10And the first save of the season for Lake Bakker.
10:14And the Marlins sweep the Giants on Father's Day.
10:17Eight consecutive wins at home for the Marlins.
10:20The most in Lone Depot Park franchise history.
10:2326 win at home this season.
10:25That's tied for first in baseball with the Dodgers.
10:29And the Marlins now 14-4 here in the month of June.
10:32The best team in baseball this month.
10:35And the Marlins now with a win today over the Giants.
10:38Just one half game back of the wild card in the National League.
10:41And Kyle what has been so much fun in watching all these games being won at home by the Marlins.
10:47We've seen them done in different fashion.
10:51Today was just a perfect example of keeping it clean.
10:55When you're playing a low run one run game you've got to do everything just right.
11:01A 2 1 game.
11:02The bullpen was tremendous.
11:04But how about Ryan Gusto getting the start.
11:06Pitching I thought the best we've seen him pitch this year.
11:10Four and a third.
11:11He could have gone longer.
11:13But give credit to Clayton McCullough making his moves.
11:17King, Fochette, Peterson, and Bakker closing it down with his first save of the year.
11:22And how about a nice knob nod to Kyle Stowers with his home run early in the game that kind
11:30of set the tone.
11:31And tip your cap putt to Clayton McCullough who pulled every light right lever all weekend long.
11:37Not just today.
11:38He managed one whale of a ball game.
11:40He's done a great job all season.
11:42The Marlins are 40 and 38 under his tutelage.
11:45And now he can enjoy his father's day with his family.
