00:00So let's get straight into our what's on guide for the West Midlands at Birmingham
00:04Hippodrome where Matilda the musical is returning to the stage. Based on Roald
00:09Dahl's much loved story follows Matilda Wormwood the bright young buckworm who
00:14refuses to be pushed around by the adults in her life. The production brings
00:19together Dennis Kelly's book and Tim Minchin's songs as Matilda takes on her
00:24parents and the formidable Miss Trunchbull. It's a story about imagination
00:29courage and finding your own voice told on a big musical scale with the central
00:35character using her quick thinking to change the world around her. Over to the
00:40NEC now where Titanic Exhibition Birmingham looks back at the line of story from
00:46its construction in Belfast through its maiden voyage and sinking to the wrecks
00:52rediscovery beneath the Atlantic. The exhibition includes artifacts connected
00:57to the ship including a deck chair, a fragment from the grand staircase, a
01:02pocket watch and a letter written on board. Displays and recreations are designed
01:08to put those objects into context with a focus on the passengers crew and the
01:13human stories around them. It offers a chance to consider both the scale of the
01:17ship and the personal experiences linked to it. Staying at the NEC we have the
01:24gladiators experience which takes familiar challenges from the program and
01:28turns them into a visitor attraction. It's aimed at people who want to test
01:32their agility and fitness as well as those who simply know the show from the
01:36TV. Participation details vary so visitors are advised to check the
01:42requirements before they go. There are also areas designed for those who want to
01:46learn more about the program's production and its well-known events. Also at the NEC
01:53Comic Con Midlands brings together film, television, gaming, comics and costume
01:57culture. The program includes guest appearances, stage sessions, prop displays,
02:03gaming zones and stalls from artists and traders. Organizers say the event is
02:08designed to give fans a chance to explore different parts of popular culture all in
02:13one place. There's also space for costume groups and displays reflecting the
02:18communities that have grown around comics gaming and screen stories. Finally
02:24back to Birmingham where the Alexandra Theatre is preparing to stage the Karate Kid
02:30the musical. The story follows Daniel LaRusso as he adjusts to a new life and
02:35forms a bond with his mentor Mr Miyagi. This version uses music and
02:40choreography to retell a familiar coming-of-age story with balance,
02:45dignity and respect at its heart. It focuses on the relationship between the
02:50two characters and Daniel's attempt to find confidence in unfamiliar
02:54surroundings. And that's your What's On for July.
