00:02I've not filmed in the North East before and it's so beautiful and there's such a going to sound
00:09really weird and druidical but there's such a feeling off the land that's quite different to
00:15anywhere else. The North East is being positioned as one of the UK's leading centres for film and
00:21television production supported by major public investment and a growing slate of screen projects.
00:27New studio plans in Sunderland sit alongside wider funding aimed at strengthening the region's
00:33creative industries. The area is also increasingly being used as a backdrop for major films and TV
00:39series from global franchises to locally made productions. At the centre of the plans is a
00:44£104 million investment in the region's creative sector that includes £38.5 million to develop
00:52Crown Works Phase One in Sunderland. The investment plans were announced back in March. The studio
00:58site is intended to support future growth in film and television production and act as a catalyst for
01:04further private sector investment. Honestly I think everything should be made up here. I think
01:09they're opening some studios in Sunderland now. Honestly it's the countryside is perfect everything
01:15this there's so much that's unique about here and spectacular. The coastline is spectacular. You've got all
01:23this wild Northumberan countryside, castles galore, country houses galore and Newcastle which has got the
01:31most extraordinary architecture. The North East has also hosted a range of shoots including feature films
01:38and TV dramas using locations such as coastal landmarks, historic buildings and industrial heritage sites across the
01:45region. Productions include major titles like 28 years later which filmed in parts of Northern England
01:51and Scotland as well as Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny which used Bambrough Castle during filming.
01:57Television productions have also made use of the region's settings. ITV dramas such as Vera and I
02:03Thought the Law have showcased the breadth of locations available from urban centres to coastal and rural landscapes.
02:09Alongside this, Smoggy Queens, a comedy series written by Middlesbrough native Phil Dunning,
02:16was filmed in Tees Valley and supported by regional production funding. More recently, Virginia Wolfe's
02:22Night and Day has used a range of North East and Northumberland locations, including Beamish Museum,
02:29the F. Engines Museum and Durham Cathedral.
02:31You know, Newcastle just is so rich in its its beauty and its incredible architecture that feels
02:39very untouched and it's so atmospheric and beautiful. So it's just been fantastic to play in these worlds.
02:48We shot at Beamish which is extraordinary and it's literally like going back in time.
