00:00Hello, how are you coping with this hot weather? Temperatures are, well they're pretty exceptional
00:05at the moment, both by day and by night they are very high indeed. Worth highlighting actually
00:11it's not exceptionally hot everywhere because there is a front just towards the north of the UK and
00:16this means that there's slightly fresher air, a bit more comfortable across parts towards the
00:21northwest, but yes many places under the influence of hot air that's coming in from the near continent
00:26where it has been record-breakingly hot as well. Through the afternoon then that front is bringing
00:32a bit of cloud, outbreaks of rain across parts of Northern Ireland, northern and western parts of
00:36Scotland and here with more cloud and that slightly fresher air it will feel relatively comfortable,
00:42especially compared to what we have going on across the rest of the country. Lots of sunshine,
00:46very high UV levels and temperatures rising. Highs of 37, 38 quite likely could be a bit hotter than
00:53this across some parts towards the south. Which is why we do have a couple of extreme heat warnings
00:59out. We have this amber warning across much of England and Wales and a red warning which has been
01:04updated earlier on today to push it further south and it now goes all the way until the end of
01:09Thursday
01:10as well. It's not just those daytime highs that are causing the issues, it's also those overnight
01:16temperatures and also the humidity. It is so humid at the moment making it extra uncomfortable.
01:23Into the end of the day and overnight we are going to stick with cloud here and at times wetter
01:28weather across the northwest. The rain it will be coming and going and doesn't look particularly heavy
01:33for the time being but nonetheless a bit damp. Meanwhile apart from a couple of showers perhaps
01:38it's looking dry across the rest of the country through the night. Largely clear skies but there could be a
01:43bit of low cloud coming into some north sea coastal parts and perhaps across parts of Wales and the
01:49odd pocket of mist and fog can't be ruled out either. But a bigger talking point really are those
01:54temperatures. They are staying high similar to some recent nights many places particularly towards the
01:59south and west and even in the southeast temperatures staying above 20 celsius a tropical night
02:06but makes it really uncomfortable especially when you factor in that high humidity even further north we're
02:12looking at mid-teens or high teens in many places here. Into Thursday and with the high pressure
02:18drifting just slightly towards the east we drag in even hotter air from the south and it pushes its way
02:23further northwards so an even hotter day to come for many of us. But weather-wise we're looking at some
02:29more persistent perhaps a little bit heavy at times rain towards the north northwest of Scotland.
02:35A bit of low cloud towards those north sea coastal parts could linger well into the afternoon.
02:39Generally though it's another largely sunny day not necessarily wall-to-wall blue sky but plenty of
02:45sunshine yet again and as I mentioned we have that hot air pushing a bit further northwards so on
02:51Thursday we're looking at highs again around 38 possibly a bit hotter than that. Some places
02:56particularly the midlands into northern England could be hotter on Thursday than today. Further north across
03:02parts of Scotland well low 30s not out out of the possibilities and even across parts of Northern
03:09Ireland high 20s or low 30s here but always that bit more comfortable that bit fresher across some parts
03:15towards the north of Scotland. Later on Thursday we do still have some more persistent at times heavy
03:22rain across the north of Scotland but perhaps a bigger cause for concern will be some showers that will be
03:27developing across parts of the southwest they'll be moving in and they could be quite intense they
03:32could be quite thundery and there are a few things to factor in with these showers. Yes they will bring
03:36a fair amount of rain but rain will be quite welcome in many places but it's also the strong gusty
03:44winds.
03:44We could see gusts of 60 perhaps 70 miles per hour in association with these showers and also quite
03:49interestingly we could perhaps see a sharp rise in temperatures as well as these push through. So don't be
03:56surprised if temperatures suddenly rise towards the end of the day an unusual time for us to see a
04:01rise in temperatures here. Looking ahead to Friday and it's a wetter story across the northern parts
04:06of the UK some heavy and pretty intense rain pushing through during the the morning and then a front
04:12lingering across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland so some further intense bursts of rain could
04:17be some thunder mixed in with this as well. One or two showers across parts of England and Wales but
04:22still
04:23the heat continues especially towards the east. Further west we'll start to see things turning a bit more
04:28comfortable but across central eastern parts of England we're still in the mid to possibly high
04:3430 Celsius. As a result we have just issued another amber warning to cover for central and eastern parts
04:40of the UK through Friday and there's another one which covers eastern parts into Saturday. So really the
04:46extreme heat is going to stick around for a little while yet. It's not really until the weekend where
04:52we start to see those fresher temperatures coming in from the west. See you again soon. Bye bye.
