00:00Do you see yourself as a bridge? Because you do represent both Western and Chinese brands.
00:05That bridge is important for you because of who you are.
00:07I think it's the other way around in that I just am who I am.
00:11And then the brands that also reflect that will align with me, right?
00:15And so I am, I exist in many different places.
00:20I travel a lot for training, for, you know, different events.
00:24And so I have communities and locations that I feel very connected to all over the world.
00:32And so I think it's only natural that I have brand partnerships that reflect that because that's just who I
00:40am.
00:40But what makes you do what you do?
00:42I mean, what you do is extraordinary.
00:44It's also very risky.
00:46You've put yourself in a situation where you've had massive injuries, shoulder concussion.
00:51I mean, for a mom, my God, I mean, that must be quite a terrible situation to be in.
00:55But you go back to it.
00:57What drives you?
01:00I think it's a lot worse for my mom than it is for me.
01:02I think you're definitely right on that part.
01:06What drives me so bad?
01:08Is it adrenaline?
01:09I don't think I've ever considered quitting.
01:11It's like just not even, like that's just like never even crossed by consciousness.
01:16So it's hard for me to answer that.
01:18I wish I had some kind of like punchy thing, but it's just who I am.
01:22It's what I do.
01:22And I think when you integrate, how about this?
01:25The reason I care about skiing is that it essentially synthesizes all of the values and reflects back to me
01:32those values that I judge myself by.
01:34Right.
01:34And so everybody has a set of values by which they define success.
01:38And so for some people, it's beauty.
01:40For some people, it's influence.
01:41For some people, it's wealth.
01:43You know, all these whatever different avenues, maybe cultural impact, maybe giving back to the community.
01:47These are all different things.
01:49I define my success by how well I know myself, how hard I'm able to push my boundaries, personal growth.
01:55I care about social impact.
01:57And so all of those values that I care most about are reflected directly in skiing.
02:02If I were to trail you for a week, what might surprise me?
02:08How little wasted time there is.
02:12Generally speaking, nobody can trail us for a week.
02:15I say us, my mom and I.
02:18Just because you really have to love it and you really have to be invested and engaged in it because
02:24otherwise it will kill you.
02:24Like it is just so exhausting.
02:26And there is not one moment that goes wasted.
02:29So it's like all my meals are eaten in the car.
02:31I do all of my prep during hair and makeup.
02:34I will simultaneously do multiple interviews and media things in one day.
02:38I will squeeze in like a workout in the most random time.
02:43We have a flight almost every day.
02:44I sleep whenever I can.
02:46So like just little things where you're like, wow, I didn't realize literally every single moment is spoken for.
02:54Like how much you can pack into a 10-minute window.
02:58Something like that I think would be most surprising.
03:00It's always the little things.
03:01When you think about the future, what's in it for Eileen Gu?
03:04People talk about perhaps, I mean, you've achieved so much, but the future could hold, you know, the movies, business,
03:11entrepreneurship.
03:11How do you look at the future for someone who's achieved so much at the top of a game in
03:17everything that she's achieved?
03:18I'm investing more now and growing interest in that area alongside mentors of mine and just kind of exploring that
03:27niche a little bit more.
03:29I'd love to start a company.
03:32Those are kind of things that interest me.
03:33I'm writing a book right now.
03:35I don't really sit still for very long, but I also don't like declaring.
03:38I don't like declaring goals until I meet them.
03:42Like if you go back, you'll never find an interview of me saying I'm going to win the Olympics.
03:45Even after I'd already won the first time, there's no interview where I'll ever say I'm going to do this.
03:51I can only say retrospectively, this is what I have done.
03:55So yeah, I think that I'm not very good at sitting still and that I will always find a way
04:00to fulfill my purpose.
04:02Generally speaking, my goal is to make the world a better place.
04:04And so the avenues that I take to reach that will naturally evolve with my age and my wisdom and
04:12place in the world.
