00:00Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebolo has said the state government will set up special court for criminal proceedings in line
00:07with the existing laws for suspected secret cult members and kidnappers to be conducted within two or three weeks maximum,
00:14and if anyone is found guilty and sentenced to death accordingly, he will sign the death warrant and bring the
00:20condemned criminal or criminals to popular Ring Road area in Benin City for public execution so that such action will
00:28serve as deterrent to others.
00:30The governor who probably have a good working relationship with one of the former governors of the state that started
00:36the recent execution of condemned criminals,
00:39Adams Oshomhole made this known on Thursday when he visited the headquarters of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria
00:46Police Force wherein some suspected kidnappers allegedly behind the shooting and abduction of a woman at a popular vegetable market
00:54along Airport Road in Benin City last Sunday were paraded before the governor and the press.
01:00According to the governor, I will set up a special court to try cultists and kidnappers within two or three
01:06weeks and if found guilty, I would have no regret to sign their warrants,
01:10they would be executed at the Ring Road for others to learn a lesson, don't take my simplicity for granted,
01:16for the record, the last time death warrant was signed and condemned criminals executed in Edo State,
01:22took place around 6am on December 23, 2016, few weeks after the then governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki took
01:31over power and was then still in good working relationship with ex-governor Adams Oshomhole.
01:37Three death row inmates were executed by hanging, namely, Ogbomero Omeregi, Apostle Ijean, and Mark Omisohotor and the execution took
01:47place at the Oko prison of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
01:51The inmates had originally been sentenced to death by military tribunals under the robbery and firearms decree during the era
01:58of military rule in Nigeria.
02:00Godwin Obaseki carried out the executions despite condemnation from human rights groups, such as the Legal Defense and Assistance Project,
02:08led up, who thus petitioned the governor for a stay of execution, saying,
02:13These earmarked prisoners were sentenced by military tribunals under the robbery and firearms, special provisions, decree 1971 as amended, in
02:23which there was no right of appeal.
02:25We have filed an appeal pending at the Court of Lagos seeking order that these prisoners have right of appeal
02:31under the 1999 Constitution.
02:34Death penalty is not universally prohibited but the second optional protocol to the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and
02:42Political Rights on Prohibition of the Use of the Death Penalty
02:46asks state parties to amend their laws to abolish death as sentence for crime.
02:50Not all states have ratified the protocol, to sign a treaty does not bind the state until it is ratified,
02:57Nigeria has not signed it,
03:00it would be recalled that before the 2016 last execution of condemned criminals in the state,
03:06the immediate past and first execution in Edo state since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999 occurred on June
03:1524, 2013,
03:17when former Governor Adams Oshiyomhole signed the warrants to hang four inmates,
03:23Chima Ejiofor, Daniel Insofa, Oseren Windu Aguokan, and Richard Aguagoo, at the Benin City Custodial Center along Sapole Road.
03:32The execution was the first in Nigeria since the last incident in 2006 after the then Kano state governor,
03:40Ibrahim Shekharau approved and carried out the execution of seven condemned criminals,
03:45Oshiyomhole action faced a lot of backlash from human rights community.
03:50Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice,
03:53Anege reiterated that the death penalty is an inhumane form of punishment and continued to advocate that Nigeria's laws should
04:00be amended to replace
04:02capital punishment with life imprisonment, even for high-level offenses like corruption,
04:08while Amnesty International declared the executions, a truly dark day for human rights in Nigeria,
04:14and criticized Oshiyomhole for ignoring the pending judicial appeal processes,
04:19this, other human rights organizations filed appeals and public campaigns,
04:24urging the Edo state government to halt the execution of the inmates because their legal options were not fully exhausted,
04:32but all to no avail as the condomined criminals were still executed,
04:36defending his action, the then governor Oshiyomhole said,
04:39I have no apologies because I did not sentence them to death, I am not the one who accused them.
04:45They were accused by those they harassed.
04:47They have been tried, they have taken advantage of the appellate courts all the way to the Supreme Court and
04:53they were found guilty,
04:54the law also says having been found guilty and sentenced to death,
04:58the governor could exercise prerogative of mercy, but I say that I have no mercy on those who kill.
05:04Why should you compel me to have mercy on those who kill?
05:07In this battle of values, we must not behave as if some other people's values are superior to ours.
05:13If you feel that those who kill in your country should have right to life and we believe in our
05:17country
05:18that those who kill should be killed and those are reflected in our laws,
05:21until you reverse those laws, those laws will apply,
05:25if you tell me that the man, who, killed has a right to life.
05:28I refuse that, amnesty should not be hypocritical about it.
05:32We have the records worldwide, nations are governed by the national values
05:37and it is debatable whether those who excuse murderers in the eyes of God are better human beings
05:42than those who insist that if you kill, you too should be killed if found guilty of killing.
05:47I don't believe that those who want to excuse murderers are on a higher moral ground.
05:52It is not about conviction but about whether I choose to exercise prerogative of mercy.
05:58God can have mercy on them, but I am unable having regard to the overall circumstances of the case,
06:04which are killing and dismembering the body of the victim and wanting to sell some of the parts,
06:09and some people ask me in the name of human rights to let him live.
06:13No, if those saying that were to be victims of such brutality, they would also think otherwise.
06:18It is very convenient for them to sit in the comfort of their offices and pontificate about human rights,
06:24as if the rights of the victims are not supposed to be taken into account.
06:29Parading the suspects, the police said the woman kidnapped at the vegetable market was rescued
06:34but one of the suspects in a video confession said the woman was released after the family paid 8 million
06:40nairas ransom,
06:41according to the suspect who identified himself as a 32-year-old marvelous Isaac Fom Akweribong state,
06:49the ransom money was shared among themselves and some parts given to leaders of a particular community around a Kenwin
06:55Road axis,
06:56saying, they gave some parts of the money to the community leaders because the community guns and bullets
07:02were parts of the weapons they used in carrying out the crime.
07:05Police said another suspect was killed during an exchange of gunfire with the security operatives.
07:12According to the police, items recovered from the suspects include a red Lexus ix 350 allegedly used for the operation,
07:21a pump-action shotgun, live cartridges, a motorcycle and over 2 million naira suspected to be proceeds from the crime,
07:29including ransom paid by the victim's family.
07:31Adding, investigations are ongoing as efforts intensified to track down other members of the kidnapping syndicate.
07:39Governor Munday Okpebholo gave a cash reward estimated to be more than 10 million nairas to the police offices
07:45that participated in the special operations.
07:49Verbatim, Governor Okpebholo said,
07:52Today at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters,
07:55I reaffirmed my administration's unwavering commitment to securing our state and protecting law-abiding citizens.
08:02Following the kidnapping incident at the vegetable market in Benin City,
08:07I directed security agencies to go after the perpetrators.
08:11I am pleased that one suspect has been arrested, another was neutralized during the operation,
08:17while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
08:20Let me be clear, Edo State will not be a safe haven for kidnappers, cultists, and other criminals.
08:28We are taking decisive steps to strengthen our justice system
08:32and ensure that anyone found guilty of these heinous crimes faces the full weight of the law.
08:37I also commended and rewarded the police offices whose professionalism and bravery led to the arrest of the suspect.
08:44Their dedication reflects the results we can achieve when government and security agencies work together with purpose.
08:51I urge all Edo people to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies.
08:58Together, we will make Edo safer, stronger, and more prosperous for everyone.
09:04In an earlier event, Governor Okpebolo said criminals in the state are the ones recruiting people from outside the state
09:11to come and commit crime in the state.
09:14Calling on members of the Christian community never to beg police to set free any SSO arrested for any kind
09:21of sime in the state.
09:23Yesterday, at the Christian Association of Nigeria, CON, Ministers Conference in Benin City,
09:29I reiterated a message that remains central to our administration's agenda.
09:34The security of lives and property is non-negotiable.
09:37My administration is deploying every available resource and working closely with security agencies
09:43to ensure that criminal elements have no place in Edo state.
09:47Anyone found engaging in kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, or any other criminal activity will face the full weight of the
09:55law.
09:56However, security is not the responsibility of government alone.
10:00It is a collective duty.
10:02I urge all Edo people to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
10:08If you see something, say something.
10:11Timely information can help prevent crime and save lives.
10:15Together, we will continue to build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Edo state for all, Governor Okpebolo stated.
10:24Now, we are going to set up a special court to try kidnappers and courtists.
10:31Within two weeks, three weeks, we are done with it.
10:35And I will sign it to execution, hang in.
10:39I will take you to the roundabout that is doing the roundabout so that the whole Edo people will see
10:45you.
10:46And this, I will not have any regret about it.
10:50So please, don't take my security for granted.
10:55We are in the bush day and night to make sure that these criminals do not settle down in this
11:02state.
11:02We are arresting people every now and then.
11:06Even yesterday night, day before yesterday night, three nights ago, criminals have been arrested.
11:12But one thing is this.
11:14Our own people are also now getting involved.
11:17In Ekoma this morning, people that were arrested were not Fulalins.
11:22I told Rumi three nights ago, somebody that was arrested is never a Fulalins man.
11:29Somewhere in Eora, somebody that was arrested were never Fulalins.
11:33But you know one funny thing is that our people will now go to the north to go and recruit
11:38people to come here to help them do the job.
11:41They will kill somebody and give it to them in the bush.
11:43Why tomorrow you will see them driving an expensive car.
11:47You will see them doing this.
11:49You will see them building houses.
11:51Pastors, I want to beg you in the name of God.
11:54Please, when you hear that I get somebody, don't come to beg me.
11:59Because our land must be safe.
12:00By the grace of God, a dome must be safe.
12:07The cartridge we are not there due to the operation.
12:09Do you remain in the way to keep it?

17:50Hmm? All right.

24:28It's all that.

25:36Bringing you the news in a more digital world.
25:40Barely 48 hours after a serving police officer on May 25, 2026 at Uelu area of Aguida quarters in Benin
25:48City Tiergasa resident to death.
25:50Matthew Okubo, a tricycle rider who is also said to be an ex-police officer of an elderly age, a
25:57more devastating tragedy was apparently averted on May 27, 2026 at the Samuel Obamudia Stadium during the 2026 Children's Day
26:07celebration when some security operatives used pepper spray on school children who came for the celebration.
26:14An action capable of causing death but the chief medical director, Edo Specialist Hospital, Dr. Anthony Njoku denied and dismissed
26:23the claims that about five children died as a result of the incident.
26:27And the Edo command of the Nigeria police force in a press statement failed to state if there was any
26:33death casualty or not, but stated that four persons including the seller of the pepper spray chemical substance have been
26:40arrested and detained in connection with the Children's Day incident, adding that,
26:44The policeman who caused the death of the tricycle rider has been in detention waiting to be arraigned for possible
26:50act of murder, this, our research study shows that the less lethal weapon of chemical substances like tear gas and
26:58pepper spray may be seen as an act of deliberate murder or attempted murder if used on a closed-range,
27:04enclosed environment like hall.
27:06Big or small because the chemical substances from our assessment are meant only to be used on a long-range
27:13open-air outdoor spaces where people have alternatives means to run and leave the contaminated areas and in line with
27:20global standard on the use of the chemical substances.
27:23Tear gas is never meant to be used on vulnerable populations or individuals with medical conditions, as international bodies like
27:31the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, OHCHR and health organizations warn it can cause permanent
27:40injury, severe complications, or death.
27:42In addition, the chemical causes instant airway constriction that can trigger fatal respiratory failure in people with asthma or COPD,
27:51a severe risk that prompted the American Thoracic Society, ATS to call for a total moratorium on its use, because,
28:00simultaneously, the intense physical stress can induce cardiac arrest in those with heart disease.
28:06As documented by physicians for human rights, PHR, and according to strict deployment standards from Amnesty International, infants and young
28:15children face significantly higher risks because their developing lungs breathe faster, and heavy gas vapors settle near the ground, pregnant
28:24individuals face severe risks of premature labor or miscarriage.
28:28A danger highlighted in field reports by National Nurses United and Reproductive Toxicology data published by the National Institutes of
28:37Health, NIH, also, the elderly suffer prolonged tissue damage due to a reduced physical ability to flee, and finally, the
28:46American Lung Association warns that people with eye conditions, especially contact lens wearers, can suffer chemical burns and permanent vision
28:55loss from trapped toxins.
28:56Though legally, while the chemical weapons convention, CWC permits domestic law enforcement usage, the UN guidance on less lethal weapons
29:06explicitly dictates that police operations must give special consideration to these protected groups to avoid unlawful, disproportionate force.
29:14According to some residents who witnessed the incident, the commercial tricycle operator, Matthew Okubo was killed by the serving police
29:23officer at Osibor Lane around Uelu section in a Gidda area of Benin City, the Edo state capital when the
29:29policeman allegedly used the tear gas on him at a very closed range over a minor argument.
29:34The killing prompted the commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as Kekke riders in the area to protest and block some
29:42sections of the Uelu road in the Agidda quarters, demanding justice for their slain colleague.
29:48It was gathered that the victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead thereafter.
29:54Edo state command of the Nigeria police force in a press statement issued on June 1, 2026 and made available
30:01by the command public relations officer, ASP Eno Akiodom stated that,
30:07the Edo state police command has expressed grave concern over the increasing proliferation, unauthorized possession, and unlawful use of restricted
30:16security accoutrements such as pepper spray, tear gas canisters, and other force-related equipment by private individuals, bouncers, vigilantes, and
30:26unauthorized security outfits within the state.
30:28It frowns on the use of such items without proper training, or regard for public safety, thereby endangering innocent lives
30:36and creating avoidable public disorder.
30:39It would be recalled that on the 25th of May 2026, a police officer attached to the command unlawfully discharged
30:47tear gas at a Gidda, Benin City, an incident which unfortunately led to the loss of a life.
30:52The officer involved was immediately arrested and subjected to disciplinary and criminal procedures in line with extant laws.
31:00Similarly, on the 27th of May 2026, during the Children's Day celebration held at the Samuel Ogbamudia Stadium, Benin City,
31:10pepper spray was unlawfully discharged within the stadium premises by private bouncers, causing panic and affecting several children and other
31:18attendees at the event.
31:19Following diligent investigation into the incident, the command has arrested three bouncers connected to the unlawful act, namely,
31:28Afeni John Paul, aged 36 years, Ola Ibukunle, aged 46 years, Onaha Chukuoji, aged 33 years.
31:38Further investigation also led to the arrest of one Mrs. Rebecca Hassan, alleged to be the supplier, seller of the
31:46pepper spray used during the incident.
31:48The command views the unauthorized use of such devices as assault, or acts capable of causing grievous harm, and in
31:56certain circumstances, death.
31:59Consequently, unlawful possession of these items with intent to commit felony and other related offenses is viewed as criminal under
32:06the law.
32:06In view of the foregoing, the Edo State Police Command hereby issues a stern warning to all individuals, private security
32:15personnel, bouncers, vigilante groups,
32:18and unauthorized organizations in possession of pepper spray, tear gas, or related restricted security equipment to immediately desist from such
32:27unlawful possession and usage.
32:29Henceforth, any person found in possession of such prohibited or unauthorized police, security accoutrements, including sellers, distributors, and suppliers, will
32:40be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
32:42The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Munday Agbonica, FDC, reassures residents that the command remains committed to protecting
32:52the rights of citizens
32:53and will not tolerate any act capable of threatening public peace and safety within the state.
32:58Meanwhile, on the Children's Day tragedy, the office of the Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor in a press
33:06release issued on May 28, 2026 and made available by Patrick Akira Ebergele,
33:12the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the Chief Medical Director, Edo Specialist Hospital, Dr. Antonia Njoku,
33:20has clarified the social media reports alleging that five pupils died during the Children's Day celebration at the Samuel Ogbamudia
33:27Stadium.
33:28Njoku made the clarification on Thursday in Benin, while addressing newsmen.
33:34Yesterday, May 27, we were called in for an emergency response and we responded swiftly and appropriately to some of
33:41the children which were evacuated by our ambulance to our facility.
33:46Resuscitation measures started immediately and to God be the glory, we have no casualty, the children are all stable and
33:53we want to
33:54Thank our governor for his continuous support, she said.
33:58Speaking on why the children were seen on the floor of the hospital, Njoku explained that they placed them on
34:04the floor for an effective resuscitation which some of the children needed.
34:08You needed to put some of these children on hard surfaces to be able to resuscitate them,
34:13That's why we even have some of them on the floor, our goal at that point was to make sure
34:18that there was no casualty.
34:20We want to use this medium to thank our able governor for his passion for children, she added.
34:26In her response, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady of Edo, Mrs. Edisili Okpebholo-Anani,
34:33noted that she was at the hospital on a fact-finding mission concerning the incident that happened during the Children's
34:40Day celebration.
34:41I have had a conversation with the CMD, the children are fine and they have been discharged and we are
34:47happy.
34:48I want to thank the management of the hospital for their swift response.
34:52The governor would have loved to be here, but he is out for other official engagements.
34:57He had directed that I should come on my fact-finding mission to see what is happening, she said.
35:03She, however, described what happened during the Children's Day celebration as unfortunate.
35:09But the good news was that response came fast, adding that safety of our children remains the priority of this
35:15administration.
35:17Also present at the hospital was the Special Advisor to the Governor on Health, Dr. Iyamu and the Permanent Secretary,
35:24Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ebermoni.
35:26In earlier press release issued on May 27, 2026, Ebergele stated that,
35:33The Edo State Government wishes to address some misleading social media narratives about today's Children's Day incident at the Samuel
35:40Ogbamudia Stadium.
35:42We hereby reject the sensational interpretations, spins, twists, and misinformation that were dubiously orchestrated to give the government a bad
35:51name.
35:52The stadium was filled to capacity with thousands of excited children who came to participate in the day's activities.
35:59The turnout was unprecedented.
36:02All the entrances into the facility were opened for children to access the stadium.
36:07Some excited children resorted to unruly behavior at one of the gates, an incident that led to some kind of
36:14stampede which necessitated one of the bouncers to deploy the use of tear gas to disperse them.
36:19In the cause of the pandemonium that ensued, few students sustained injuries.
36:25The Deputy Governor, Right Honorable Dennis Idahosa who was physically present at the stadium, rose to the challenge immediately, assisting
36:33children with first aids,
36:35and those requiring further care were taken to the Edo Specialist Hospital where they received appropriate medical attention and are
36:42now safely back home with their families.
36:44The Edo State Government has already authorized investigations into the incident while the bouncer involved is presently being interrogated by
36:53the police to ascertain the immediate or remote cause of the incident.
36:57The government wishes to restate its commitment to the safety and security of all including our children.
37:04We however call on social media users to refrain from unverified narratives that could cause unnecessary panic.
37:11Isolated incidents at large gatherings, while regrettable, do not diminish Governor Okpebholo's commitment to child safety and well-being.
37:20The Governor's unparalleled investment in education is the reason for the huge attendance by students of different schools in the
37:27state to celebrate Children's Day.
37:29We thank the security personnel, medical staff, and volunteers for their swift response and dedication to duty.
37:37Their immediate response helped to douse the tension.
37:40However, the American Lung Association in its report on January 20, 2026, stated in part that,
37:48crowd control agents, often referred to as, tear gas, are chemicals that cause skin, respiratory, and eye irritation.
37:57Some of the most common chemicals used are chloroestophenone, CN, which is a toxic air pollutant, chlorobenzididemolononitrile, CS, chloropicrin, PS,
38:09bromobenzocyanide, CA, and debenzoxazapine, CR.
38:14While tear gas is typically perceived as causing mostly short-term health impacts, there is evidence of permanent disability in
38:22some cases.
38:23In general, exposure to tear gas can cause chest tightness, coughing, a choking sensation, wheezing and shortness of breath,
38:31in addition to a burning sensation in the eyes, mouth and nose, blurred vision and difficulty swallowing.
38:38Tear gas can also cause chemical burns, allergic reactions and respiratory distress.
38:44People with pre-existing respiratory conditions, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD,
38:52have a higher risk of developing severe symptoms of the disease that could lead to respiratory failure.
38:58Long-term health effects from tear gas are more likely if exposed for a prolonged period or to a high
39:04dose while in an enclosed area.
39:06In these instances, it can lead to blindness, glaucoma or respiratory failure possibly resulting in death.
39:13If exposed to tear gas, the American Lung Association advises you to immediately distance yourself from the source and seek
39:21higher ground, if possible.
39:23Flush your eyes with water and use a gentle soap, such as baby shampoo, to wash your face to reduce
39:29skin and eye irritation.
39:31Cut your clothes off rather than pulling them over your head to remove.
39:35Leaving the area immediately for fresh air should help relieve respiratory symptoms you may experience.
39:42If you are living with chronic lung disease, or are experiencing lasting or worrisome symptoms, let your health care provider
39:49know about your exposure.
39:51If breathing trouble persists or worsens, seek medical attention immediately.
39:59Ossasuakong Nebu, bringing you the news in a more digital way.
40:03Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Yumara Zulam may have given a clearer picture and addressed some fundamental issues in the
40:11press release issued by the Nigerian Army on Saturday that caused mixed reactions among members of the public,
40:17Especially Borno youths under the Umbrella body of Borno South Youth Alliance.
40:23Bosya who had condemned the military for saying in the press release that its men rescued 360 out of the
40:30416 women and children held hostage by the Boko Haram terrorists based on intelligence-driven efforts that made the terrorists
40:40to flee and abandon their victims upon citing the superior power of the men of the armed forces of Nigeria.
40:47AFN, with some of the terrorists arrested, but, the state governor, Babagana Zulam while speaking during his assessment visit to
40:56Pulka community on Monday, said,
40:59434 victims out of the total numbers of people kidnapped early this year in Ingosh community by the Boko Haram
41:06terrorists have regained freedom, specifically stating that,
41:11357 captives walked free in the latest coordinated effort, other captives have been released in phases over the preceding months,
41:19bringing the total number of freed captives to 434.
41:22This, we have reported that youths in Borno state under the Umbrella body of Borno South Youth Alliance.
41:29Bosya has insisted that the federal government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tanubu did nothing to
41:38secure the release of the 416 women and children held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists for more than 90 days.
41:46They were taken into the bush since March 2026.
41:50Also, the youth group dismissed and rejected the report of the Nigerian army who had alleged that its men rescued
41:57360 out of the 416 people held hostage through intelligent-driven efforts,
42:03saying, they have an audio record of the conversation they had with the Boko Haram terrorists on Friday, June 5,
42:112026 before the Boko Haram terrorists decided to release the captives willingly, adding,
42:17if they paid ransom, they should come out and tell Nigerians, which we have the full details if ransoms was
42:24paid or not.
42:25As Senator Ali Ndume automatically started thanking President Bola Ahmed Tanubu, is there something Nigerians need to know that is
42:34hidden?
42:34It may be recalled that we have reported that barely a day after President Donald Trump of the United States
42:40of America,
42:41the USA announced the killing of Abu Bilal al-Minuki, the second in command of the Islamic State in Iraq
42:48and Syria,
42:49ISIS in a joint operation with Nigeria soldiers in Borno State.
42:53A new video of the abducted 416 women and children in Boko Haram captivity has been released in addition to
43:02a gory video earlier released by the terrorists
43:05wherein they beheaded almost six men who the insurgents said tried to escape among the kidnapped victims.
43:11This had led to public outcry and demonstrations.
43:14But according to Punch newspaper, protesters are reportedly denied the rights to protest in Madaguri, the Borno State Capitol, saying,
43:23the army reportedly deployed tanks and heavily armed personnel to filling Polo, the venue of the recent planned protest,
43:30forcing the demonstrators to withdraw, quoting Samayla Kaigama, leader of the protesters, as saying,
43:36The atmosphere created by the military deployment made it impossible for citizens to continue with the demonstration
43:43that the development is deeply disturbing in a constitutional democracy.
43:48It may also be recalled that we have reported that President Bola Ahmed Tanubu of Nigeria may have kept mute
43:54since more than 48 hours.
43:56A faction of the Boko Haram terrorists showed off 416 people, mostly women and children kidnapped and held hostage
44:04when the members of the Jumatu Ali Sana Lidawati Wal Jihad, JAS, launched a large-scale combat actions
44:12between 4th to the 6th of March 2026 against the men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, AFN,
44:20overran the Africa Country military base at Ingosh, killing several soldiers, a figure the Nigeria Authority disputed to be 14
44:29after several reports indicated that more than 40 soldiers were killed during the attack,
44:35in addition to more than 100 civilians including Chief Iman of Ingosh alongside the community elders killed
44:42during the coordinated attacks that lasted days at Ingosh Community in Gwoza local government area of Borno State.
44:49This, during the attacks, numbers of people were also taken hostage by the insurgents,
44:55with speculations indicating that the hostages are apparently being held at the rugged terrain of the Mandara Mountains,
45:02which sit wide across the Nigeria border with Cameroon.
45:05In the released video, one of the spokespersons of the Boko Haram group said they decided to release a proof
45:12-of-life video
45:13of the 416 women and children in their captivity, following the demands made across to them by the Borno South
45:20Youths Alliance,
45:22BOSYA, and according to the statement issued by the Bosya when they made the video public on Friday, April 10,
45:292026,
45:31the youths group called on federal government and governments at all level to ensure the hostages are released,
45:37saying specifically that,
45:38we have witnessed cases in states such as Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kedi where abducted victims
45:45regained freedom following interventions by individuals such as Sheikh Ahmed Gumi,
45:51we therefore expect equal urgency and commitment in addressing the plight of the Ingosh victims.
45:57No region or group of citizens should be treated with less priority.
46:00Dada Aliyah, the spokesperson and media advisor to the Borno State Governor,
46:06in a news release he issued and made available some hours ago,
46:10said the, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umar Azulam,
46:14has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tanubu for his role in securing the freedom of 434 residents of Ingosh community,
46:22who were abducted over a year ago during a violent raid on the town.
46:26Speaking in Pulka on Monday, Governor Zulam confirmed that the latest release comprises 357 persons,
46:35while approximately 82 others had regained their freedom spontaneously in smaller batches over the period since their abduction.
46:42The victims were originally taken from Ingosh, a border town in Guosa local government area of Borno State,
46:49following an attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents early this year.
46:53Zulam particularly praised President Tanubu for his personal intervention and commitment towards restoring peace,
47:01which he said accelerated the negotiation and rescue process.
47:04I want to express my deepest appreciation, on behalf of the government and people of Borno State and Guosa community
47:12in particular,
47:13to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tanubu,
47:18for all the efforts that he has been making in ensuring the return of peace and stability not only to
47:24Borno State but to the entire country,
47:27Zulam stated.
47:28Zulam also extended commendations to the Nigerian military,
47:32the Department of State Services, DSS, and all other security agencies involved in the operation,
47:39acknowledging their professionalism and coordination.
47:41I also want to use this opportunity to commend the Nigerian Armed Forces,
47:47the Office of the National Security Advisor,
47:50the Department of State Security and all other security agencies,
47:54including our gallant civilian JTF,
47:56forest guards,
47:58vigilante and hunters,
47:59who have participated immensely in ensuring the release of these abducted men,
48:04women and children,
48:05Zulam added.
48:06He explained that while 357 captives walked free in the latest coordinated effort,
48:13other captives had been released in phases over the preceding months,
48:17bringing the total number of freed captives to 434.
48:21We are here to felicitate with Ingosh community following,
48:25the release of the abducted women and children numbering about 434.
48:30What we saw this morning is about 360 released two days ago.
48:35But some two to three weeks ago,
48:38we also received about other persons,
48:40totaling about 434,
48:43Zulam explained.
48:44According to the governor,
48:46government has released millions of Naira to rehabilitate the Ingosh community.
48:50So far,
48:52the work is nearly complete.
48:54We are also interfacing with the community about their return to Ingosh.
48:58Those that are willing to return,
49:00we are working with the Nigerian military to establish institutional arrangements
49:04that will ensure their safe and dignified return.
49:08Zulam also directed the distribution of relief materials,
49:11comprising food and non-food items,
49:14to all the released persons as part of the immediate intervention.
49:17The rescued individuals are currently receiving medical and psychological support in a government facility,
49:24after which they will be reintegrated into their communities.
49:27It would be recalled that the Nigerian army in a press statement tittered,
49:31Operation Hadamkai executes unprecedented intelligence-led rescue operation,
49:37frees 360 abductees from jazz stronghold in the Mandara Mountains,
49:42had stated that,
49:43in one of the most significant hostage rescue operations conducted in the Northeast Theater in recent times,
49:50Troops of the Joint Task Force,
49:52Northeast,
49:53Operation Hadamkai,
49:55OPHK,
49:56comprising special forces and troops of Sector 1,
49:59have successfully rescued 360 abductees from a heavily fortified Jumatu Ali's Sunna Lidawati Wall Jihad,
50:07jazz,
50:08enclave deep within the Mandara Mountains area of southern Borno State.
50:13The operation,
50:14which was the culmination of weeks of painstaking intelligence preparation,
50:18covert reconnaissance,
50:19and operational planning,
50:21resulted in the safe recovery of men,
50:24women,
50:24and children who had been held in captivity under harsh conditions after being abducted from several communities,
50:31particularly within the Ingosh Axis.
50:34The successful rescue underscores the growing operational reach,
50:38intelligence dominance,
50:39and tactical superiority of OPHK in denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting vulnerable populations across the theater.
50:47The operation was initiated following the receipt of credible and corroborated intelligence from multiple sources indicating the precise location of
50:56the hostages and the existence of an elaborate insurgent support network sustaining the enclave.
51:02OPHK intelligence elements subsequently launched an extensive target development process involving the integration of human intelligence,
51:11human-t,
51:12signals intelligence,
51:13SIGINT,
51:14and persistent intelligence,
51:16surveillance and reconnaissance,
51:17ISR,
51:18operations conducted through unmanned aerial systems and long-range reconnaissance patrols.
51:24Through sustained intelligence collection and analysis,
51:27commanders developed a comprehensive understanding of the terrain,
51:31insurgent disposition,
51:33defensive arrangements,
51:35movement patterns,
51:36and the condition of the abductees.
51:38This intelligence-driven approach enabled the force to accurately map the objective area,
51:43identify vulnerabilities within the terrorist network,
51:47and significantly reduce risks to the hostages during the rescue mission.
51:51A decisive breakthrough was achieved through the successful penetration of the terrorist network by carefully cultivated intelligence assets operating under
52:00the supervision of OPHK military intelligence personnel.
52:04These assets provided timely and actionable intelligence regarding the exact locations of the abductees,
52:11the disposition of insurgent commanders,
52:13internal security measures,
52:15and planned relocation routes.
52:17Simultaneously,
52:19carefully coordinated information and psychological operations created uncertainty and mistrust within the insurgent ranks,
52:26degrading their cohesion and disrupting
52:28command and control arrangements.
52:31The resulting intelligence advantage provided OPHK with unprecedented situational awareness
52:37and enabled commanders to shape the operational environment well before the commencement of the assault phase.
52:43Acting on confirmed intelligence,
52:46OPHK Special Forces and troops of Sector 1 launched a meticulously coordinated multi-axis operation designed to isolate the objective
52:55area,
52:55dominate key terrain,
52:57and prevent insurgent reinforcement or withdrawal.
53:00Supported by real-time ISR feeds,
53:03assault forces infiltrated the objective area under the cover of darkness while blocking forces established positions along likely escape routes.
53:11The operation achieved complete tactical surprise,
53:15overwhelming the terrorists before an organized response could be mounted.
53:19Faced with the speed,
53:21precision,
53:22and overwhelming combat power of the advancing troops,
53:25several insurgents abandoned their positions and fled into surrounding mountainous terrain,
53:30while others surrendered.
53:32The hostages were swiftly secured,
53:34medically screened,
53:36and evacuated from the objective area.
53:38Regrettably,
53:39two infants succumbed to exhaustion occasioned by the extremely challenging mountainous terrain
53:44and the hardships endured during the prolonged captivity.
53:48The remaining rescued abductees were successfully evacuated to safe locations for medical care and humanitarian support,
53:56marking a major operational success and a significant setback for the terrorist crew.
54:00The military high command has commended the courage,
54:04professionalism,
54:05and exceptional discipline displayed by all personnel involved in the operation.
54:10The military high command noted that the successful rescue of 360 abductees reflects the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations,
54:19the growing synergy among security stakeholders,
54:21and the unwavering resolve of the armed forces of Nigeria to protect innocent citizens and restore lasting peace to affected
54:29communities.
54:30The military high command further reassured the public that aggressive follow-on exploitation and clearance operations are ongoing to neutralize
54:38residual terrorist elements,
54:40dismantle remaining support networks,
54:43and prevent future abductions,
54:45the military stated as signed and made available by Lieutenant Colonel Haruna Sani,
54:49the acting media information officer.
54:52Joint Task Force,
54:54Northeast,
54:55Operation Hadan Kai,
