00:00That Lawrence is at any race, but in the beginning part, he's a little vulnerable.
00:05Hunter Lawrence, Hayden Deegan, they cannot let this guy settle in,
00:08because if he does, you're going to end up second place.
00:11And talking to Hayden's mechanic this week, it starts, starts, starts.
00:15That's what they're looking for.
00:16Let's see if they get it.
00:17Here they go.
00:23This time it's Hunter.
00:26Hunter Lawrence with a start.
00:27Jorge Prado back up there.
00:29He's second, Cooper Webb third.
00:31Yeah, great start by Jorge Prado.
00:33Actually goes up the inside of Hunter Lawrence, makes a small mistake,
00:37and then Cooper Webb, where do you come from?
00:41Hey, so Webb told me they got money on the line if he can whole shot motos.
00:45I don't know if that counts as a whole shot or not.
00:47Didn't get the whole shot, but he's leading, and Hunter's right back at it.
00:51Yeah, well, it is Father's Day weekend as Hunter Lawrence slides up the inside.
00:54I saw Cooper Webb yesterday with the kids.
00:57It looks like a daycare over there, so Cooper understands he's got to show out in front of the baby
01:01girls.
01:02But Hunter Lawrence back up front, just like he did at Supercross, man.
01:06I tell you, any time that guy needed a full start, he did it, and he executed again because he
01:11knows how poor starts are in this race.
01:13And Jet Lawrence is eighth, and Deegan is tenth.
01:17So an opportunity right now for Hunter.
01:20Let's see how this plays out.
01:22Go back to the first race.
01:23When Hunter Lawrence was out front, he was untouchable.
01:26So let's see.
01:27Now the roles are reversed compared to the last four motos.
01:29Jet Lawrence is the one that has to make these moves.
01:32Can Hunter get away?
01:33He knows what he needs to do, and he's done it before so far this year.
01:37Prado going to work on Webb.
01:39But JT.
01:41Yeah, and I love this setup for Hunter Lawrence.
01:43Not so much to start.
01:44Yes, of course, that helps.
01:45But this racetrack has been very kind to Hunter Lawrence over the years.
01:49Go back and look at the battles he's had with his brother here, and it's really just because it suits
01:53his style.
01:54We talked about it in 250 Moto 1, about it suiting Cole Davies.
01:57Well, their styles are remarkably similar.
01:59They don't get in a hurry to do much of anything.
02:01It's methodical.
02:02They really think about how to attack the racetrack with patience, and that is rewarded here at High Point.
02:08So it would not shock me to see Hunter Lawrence build up a lead quickly.
02:13Thanks, JT.
02:14Battle right now.
02:15Jet Lawrence see that neon green gear trying to move forward.
02:18I think battling the triumphs of Smith and Harrop, and then Deegan following him through.
02:23Right now it is Harrop on the 31 between them.
02:25Yeah, they were running back-to-back.
02:27Hayden and Jett, that wasn't.
02:29Jett made that pass to Harrop.
02:31So I think it's with Jett, the way Hayden's been, the practice, he probably needs a little bit of buffer
02:36between Hayden and Deegan,
02:38especially when you're in the traffic because you're getting bottled up.
02:41Hayden can take a shot if he wants to, not that he would, but Jett's going to be thinking about
02:44that.
02:46Yeah, I got chippy between them in qualifying, Deegan and Jett Lawrence.
02:50Jett going to work on Smith now.
02:52There's March Banks on that green.
02:53Kawasaki also in the fight.
02:57Deegan working on Harrop.
02:59Now we just saw in that 250 class, I mean, even though you have speed, the chances that you're taking
03:04to make that speed,
03:05sometimes it's easy to make a lot of mistakes.
03:07So being back here where Jett is and where Hayden is, Hunter Lawrence has really got an advantage being out
03:13front
03:13because those guys are going to have to push it on this racetrack because Hayden is pushing it.
03:16Jett looks like he's got a round.
03:18Another rotter, George Smith.
03:21But they're making their way up, so does Hayden, Deegan.
03:23And similar to what we saw in the opening moto of the season, Lawrence and Deegan working through traffic at
03:30the same time.
03:31I'm not going to say they're working together.
03:32I wouldn't necessarily say that.
03:34And there it is, a quick pass on Smith by Deegan.
03:37And so they're fender to fender again and another pass coming for Jett as he works on Plessinger.
03:42Yeah, this is the same scenario, but different results because these guys are moving up compared to what they did
03:49at the first race.
03:50It seemed like they stalled out.
03:51And on the track that's difficult to pass, you can tell the difference of these last four races since that
03:56first one.
03:57How much better are these guys feeling on the racetrack?
03:59Yeah, well, Deegan improving.
04:01It is his rookie year in the 450.
04:02And, of course, Jett Lawrence coming back from injury.
04:05So they're getting better.
04:06How much better can they get?
04:08They've got Hunter Lawrence, Webb, Prado, Hampshire ahead of them.
04:14And Prado's still working on Webb, but he lost the back end.
04:18Do you think there's a little motivation from Supercross with these two, you know, with Cooper Webb?
04:24You know, at some point, you know, Cooper was going to be a problem.
04:27Jorge, if he wanted to win this championship, Cooper's too good of a rider not to have to deal with
04:31him all summer.
04:32It's the best ride we've seen out of the three-time champ, Cooper Webb.
04:36You've got to think that has to do with Jorge Prado behind him.
04:39Yeah, certainly didn't end on friendly terms in Supercross between these two.
04:44And maybe a little carryover here in Motocross.
04:47So as they battle, you see, actually, Hampshire starting to get in it from fourth.
04:54Quietly, RJ's been riding really good all year long.
04:57We've been talking about the three at the top, you know, Hayden Deegan and all them.
05:01But RJ's solid.
05:02He's riding better and more consistent than he does last year on a deeper field.
05:06So good for him.
05:10As for Prado, man, that one mistake.
05:12Didn't quite get that double at the top of the hill off the start.
05:15But it looked like he was about to grab the lead.
05:17How big a difference did that one piece of track position mean?
05:20About five seconds.
05:22Oh, man.
05:23About five seconds.
05:25That's the difference.
05:25And we've seen, unfortunately, for Jorge, which is one of the things he has to work on,
05:29when he's not out front, it just seems like he can't make his way up through the pack like these
05:35other guys.
05:36And that's what's really cost him.
05:38And he's been stuck this close to Cooper Webb.
05:40Hunter Lawrence is getting away.
05:41And, unfortunately, for him, I don't know if he's going to be able to close up on him once he's
05:46able to get around Cooper Webb.
05:47If he's able to do that.
05:48And now a big battle is coming.
05:50So Hampshire is catching Prado.
05:52Now Jet Lawrence as well.
05:54Prado trying to solve Webb.
05:56And it looks like Jet Lawrence took the measure of Hampshire.
06:00Yeah, Jet goes around the outside.
06:02And if Jorge is not going to, he doesn't watch out.
06:05He's going to, number one, is going to get by both these guys as well.
06:09So, critical juncture for Prado.
06:11Started the year on the podium.
06:12Thought he was in title contention for sure.
06:14But then bike problems and a bad moto at round two have set him way back in the standings.
06:19So he needs to mix it up.
06:21The series leader of Lawrence right now.
06:23And just going back to your point, what you said earlier, the difference is that one jump.
06:28Yeah.
06:28He wouldn't think he'd be battling in this position if he was out front.
06:31So, very crucial how tough and close all these guys are.
06:38JT.
06:39Well, I'm going to say something.
06:41It's a little unorthodox here.
06:42And James, call me crazy if I am.
06:44But I know Jet Lawrence is in fourth place.
06:47And last weekend in the first moto, he was in first place.
06:49But to me, he looks better this first moto than he did a week ago.
06:53He just looks more comfortable.
06:54And I don't know if he's going to be able to catch on Lawrence.
06:56He may end up with a second or a third in this moto.
06:58But just comfortability-wise and rhythm-wise, he looks like he's able to push more here than he did a
07:03week ago in Moto 1.
07:05You're spot on.
07:05And that's what I was talking about earlier in Race Day Live.
07:08I'm like, Jet, I see his body language.
07:10And even earlier in practice, you can just see he's riding laps.
07:13He looks smooth.
07:14This is the guy that we saw in Hangtown probably even more aggressive.
07:17So, you're 100% right.
07:19If he catches his brother, that's going to be a hard feat because we know how good Hunter Lawrence is.
07:23But Jet Lawrence looks really good right now.
07:25A lot better than he did last weekend.
07:29But it's going to be a fight because Cooper Webb certainly has improved as well.
07:33Running strong in second.
07:34Katie.
07:35I want to go back to Jet Lawrence there for a second.
07:37Earlier in the week, he was asked if he is capable of kicking it up a notch still within his
07:42racing.
07:42He said, yes, sometimes.
07:43It totally depends on the flow, which is exactly what you guys are talking about.
07:47He said, everything that I do out on that bike goes off of flow.
07:50He said, if I can push it, it just depends on the track.
07:53If I don't want to go right over the edge, that's exactly what I am doing.
07:56So, he's managing the race as well as his energy out there all based on flow.
08:01And he's really having to do a lot of pushing right now.
08:03Oh, yeah.
08:04Because Katie is trying to get Prado, who is doing everything to get Webb.
08:08Webb made life very tough on Prado.
08:11Finally, the 26 is by.
08:12Prado in the pink gear there.
08:14Prado in the blue number two of Webb.
08:16Here comes Lawrence to the inside.
08:18Yeah, and watch this.
08:19You'll probably see Cooper Webb.
08:21All these kind of let Jet by.
08:24And that's the difference.
08:25And when you go back to, hey, there's their little carryover.
08:27That's what it is.
08:28Cooper Webb doesn't want to let anybody by.
08:30But he understands that, look, if I'm not battling for the front,
08:33if I'm in the championship, I want those guys to do me as well.
08:36So, people just don't care.
08:38So, he didn't make it as easy on Prado as he did Lawrence.
08:41Prado's second splitting.
08:42The Lawrence brothers, man, Hunter has a nearly nine-second lead right now.
08:48Yeah, and that's awesome.
08:49I mean, you saw how close all three of those guys are battling and being stuck.
08:53Jet Lawrence, that separates those guys.
08:56And now Hunter Lawrence has nine seconds over him.
08:58So, at this point, you would think, Jet, unless all of a sudden Hunter starts coming back,
09:02which is unlikely, his focus is going to be about keeping Haydegan behind him
09:06and just getting on Jorge Prado, trying to finish second in his first moto.
09:12Again, critical juncture for Prado.
09:15So, I would feel to prove he's still in the mix with these two after two bad rounds
09:20following the great performance at the opener.
09:24I think this is a big race for Jorge.
09:26Not only just for, yeah, Hunter Lawrence is out front, but even Jet Lawrence behind him
09:31should keep him inspired because this is the guy you're going to have to beat.
09:34Obviously, he has the red flag.
09:36So, if I'm Jorge, if I can hold this guy off, this is where I'm really being challenged for the
09:40speed
09:41and seeing if I'm really here to compete against these guys.
09:44Now, we lost Hampshire from this battle.
09:46There he is in white.
09:47That's what got him.
09:49Yeah, it just came down.
09:50This is after the finish line.
09:51He wanted to lean his bike over, but the bike was hitting those bumps.
09:55The front tire wasn't on the ground.
09:56Easy mistake, but, yeah, RJ, a little costly right there.
10:01You see how easy mistakes are to make on this track.
10:03Prado and Jet both had their issues in the section they just went through.
10:09Oh, Lawrence is all over him now.
10:11Yeah, it seems like Jorge is a little more struggling on this side of the track.
10:16They were actually able to get Hunter Lawrence within seven seconds,
10:18but as soon as we do that, Jet Lawrence scrubs up the inside.
10:22Jorge is going to fight him.
10:23Jet Lawrence has that single.
10:25Now, another opportunity.
10:27If I'm Jet, I'm going to charge down this inside or outside, excuse me, have a good run
10:32as he almost goes on the racetrack, and he should have that line up for the inside right here.
10:36Ah, you saw it coming.
10:38Outside turns into inside, and a pass for a second.
10:42Yep, great move.
10:43Now, key for Jet.
10:45Get that gap.
10:46Let's see if we can crack into brother's lead.
10:48He hasn't gotten named.
10:49Actually, if anything, Jet's closed up on him.
10:52Yeah, even while battling.
10:54Yeah.
10:58And they've distanced themselves.
10:59Webb and Deegan are next.
11:01There's the leader, Hunter Lawrence.
11:04All by himself.
11:08That's the gap.
11:10There's Jet.
11:11JT.
11:12I think these next couple laps are so critically important to whether or not Jet is able to
11:18close.
11:18Now, he's going to try, but Hunter's so smart, and he's so observant.
11:22He knows that Jet is now in second, so both of them are going to push right here.
11:25They're going to test each other's sprint speed to see who has what.
11:29If Jet can make a big mark in that lead, we may end up with a battle, but if Hunter
11:33can withstand
11:34that lead stays seven, eight seconds, I don't know how much more Jet will push.
11:38These guys know each other so well, and these next, I would say, two laps are critical in
11:43that narrative.
11:44You know, one thing to speak about, JT, was the relationship with Jet and Hunter that they
11:48have together as brothers.
11:49I did ask Hunter about that.
11:50He said, look, we even watched King Richard with the Williams sisters, and he said, that
11:54one hit home so much to me, it's very relatable, because not many people in this world will
11:59ever know what it's like to be top athletes with their sibling.
12:02I did ask him, how does he manage these small mistakes, especially when he knows that Jet
12:07is behind him?
12:07He said, to be honest, the front wheel feel has been off these last couple of races.
12:11They made some big changes, and they went back to Florida this past week, which really
12:16was beneficial, he said, not only for being on the bike, for training, but just for the
12:20soul to be back at home as well.
12:23Well, it's working right now.
12:25He's got the feel he's looking for, Katie.
12:28Yeah, but his brother's starting to close in on him, but JT, to your point, it's 100%
12:34right, and just going back to what you said earlier about Jet, what I noticed with him
12:38this weekend is that he's really charging down those downhills in those first couple
12:42races.
12:43Yeah, he was charging, but there was a little hesitation.
12:45To me, Jet's getting back, picking up the front wheel, really charging, and that's coming
12:50from being comfortable and believing that his foot is fine.
12:54So, scary fact for everybody else, because he looks good.
12:57He looks racy today.
13:04It's going to be a tell of a stopwatch.
13:06These next couple laps, Hunter versus Jet.
13:09Can he maintain this gap?
13:10Yeah, so far, so good for the 96.
13:16Yeah, Jet's got a pretty good line up here.
13:21Prado hanging tough in third, Katie.
13:28Prado, also, one thing to note about him is he was also back in routine here this week,
13:32him going back to Florida, and I think that is something that is game-changing for these
13:37guys, right?
13:37They get back into routine, but it's been a big change for him in general.
13:41The tracks, his places, the travel, and just to get back to Bakers and be able to be settled
13:45in is such a win for these guys.
13:49Yeah, we'll see.
13:50Jorge, by keeping Jet Lawrence on us, it's keeping Deegan at bay.
13:54About three seconds for the podium between Prado and Deegan.
14:04Yeah, Hayden's riding really good, but he's got his teammate behind him, Cooper Webb.
14:08Now, Cooper Webb wasn't really sure what you were going to get from in his motocross, but
14:13I think with him, any time Cooper's up near the lead, as we're still watching Hayden Deegan
14:18right here, Cooper's going to fight.
14:20Father's Day weekend, a little motivation for the Jorge Prado.
14:23Cooper Webb's always deemed for a top five, and I believe this is the best moto of the year
14:28so far for him.
14:30Told me he's having a lot of fun, actually, at the race.
14:32He doesn't really feel the pressure.
14:33He's enjoying the racing, but he's got another battle on his hands.
14:36Here comes Aaron Plessinger, got back into racing, had a big crash, a tank town, hurt
14:41the ribs, riding all right, and closing in on Webb.
14:49Big gap back to Hampshire, who should come through.
14:52I think RJ.
14:53Oh, RJ, again.
14:55Lost RJ from the group for another time.
14:58So, yeah, you saw the triumphs go by, and March Banks.
15:01There is RJ.
15:02Pfizer pointed at the sky.
15:04Yeah, that's not aerodynamics.
15:06Usually you see that as an issue.
15:08He cannot get that thing to snap off.
15:11It's probably blocking his vision.
15:13Yeah.
15:17Straight for the moment.
15:20Yeah, that's dangerous going down these hills, too.
15:22I'll be able to see it.
15:27And he has dropped to 12th place.
15:30It's March Banks 7th.
15:32Harrop Smith-Tondle now top 10.
15:35Will he go to the mechanics area?
15:38Back to this battle, Webb and Plessinger for fifth.
15:42I've seen these battles over the years.
15:44Yeah.
15:45These two.
15:47It's like Cooper Webb is starting to, I wouldn't say race behind him, but hey, Deegan's starting
15:52to get away, which is allowing Aaron Plessinger to have that Rappner in front of him, which
15:56Cooper doesn't.
15:58Any good finish for Aaron.
16:00It's on top six.
16:01It would be great for him.
16:05All right, halfway through this photo, reminder, Monster Energy available at BFS Foods.
16:13Plessinger getting racy here.
16:15Told me this morning he wants the track to be rougher, deeper.
16:19He likes the Darley ruts.
16:20And looks like it's playing into his hands right now, later in this photo.
16:27Aaron looks good.
16:30But I'm glad to see him back after that crash at Hangtown.
16:35A lot better.
16:36Katie.
16:37Yeah, and I actually asked the team about that crash in Hangtown.
16:39They said, yeah, he was holding his shoulder a little bit.
16:41He's definitely feeling on the ups there.
16:43But Aaron Plessinger has actually put on 10 pounds from last year at Millville when he
16:48tried to compete there.
16:49Just didn't make it work.
16:50The rest of the season was out.
16:52He's been working on his conditioning a lot.
16:54But Stu, even just having that extra weight, can you help us work through why that's so important?
16:59Especially on bikes like these.
17:01Yeah, I mean, Aaron's a taller rotter.
17:04So you think he has leverage.
17:05But I think really what it comes down to is having an extra weight.
17:08It helps on a motorcycle.
17:09But what it helps is during the week, your body will be able to recover.
17:13I think the biggest thing for these guys is not being in shape, but it's being able to
17:17recover.
17:17A little bit of weight.
17:19Have some room to work with.
17:20If you get sick, your body's not depleted.
17:22I think that's probably what Aaron's more feeling.
17:25And especially off the last year being so sick, he knew he needed to have something towards
17:29his long season.
17:30And it's a long season for these guys.
17:33He's digging deep right now, James, with Webb in front of him.
17:36Webb has not.
17:37It surprised me he had a top five 450 pro motocross in three years.
17:42And it was that high point three years ago where he got it.
17:46And he's riding well right now, feeling the vibes, he said.
17:50And pretty funny.
17:51So he said they got three guys on the team that said we'll pay $100 a piece every time
17:56we get a hole shot.
17:57That's $300.
17:57He's got two already this year.
17:59He's probably going to argue his case.
18:00Hey, I didn't hole shot, but I have a lead.
18:02A couple turns in.
18:04He'll take the motivation anyway.
18:06He can get it.
18:07Yeah.
18:07I mean, he just had another kid.
18:09Congratulations to my father.
18:10Dyford, man.
18:12Foster living's going up these days.
18:13Cooper Webb, Hunter Muggs, that hole shot.
18:15But that's an insane stat when you think about how good Cooper Webb is, that top five in three
18:22years.
18:22That's insane.
18:25He's got to figure it out in Supercross.
18:27No doubt about that.
18:29So fighting hard.
18:30Look at this.
18:31The gap is bigger now than it was when Jet Lawrence got to second.
18:36It's 9.4 seconds to the good for Hunter Lawrence.
18:43Oh, we got Hutch filling in there as the mechanic today.
18:47Grant Hutcherson for Hunter.
18:49And it's working well.
18:51This combination.
18:53So back to JT's point that he made earlier there, James, is that all Hunter and Jet needed
18:58to see?
18:59Those couple laps where Jet was not able to close in.
19:02Oh, absolutely.
19:03I mean, and that's why I go back to these things.
19:05There's moments in races.
19:07And those two laps, as JT mentioned, made this race.
19:11It was whether it was going to be whether Hunter was going to have to deal with Jet or
19:15not.
19:16And because he put it down, Jet decided Jorge Prada's gaffing him.
19:20He's got a distance on him.
19:22I'll fight him for the next moto.
19:23Two laps.
19:24That's all that changed his whole dynamic of this race.
19:26To Katie.
19:28Grant Hutchinson there is typically the crew chief there on Honda, wearing multiple hats.
19:32But we just want to send our best wishes to Cameron Camara.
19:35Interesting at Thunder Valley, he was working with Hunter on the bike before that second
19:39moto and his back went out.
19:40So best wishes to him as he hopefully is going to be in recovery soon.
19:44Hunter said, hey, look, I just picked up the wipe.
19:47I started wiping my own start.
19:48I just took the lead until they got Hutch in there.
19:50And of course, as you said, the combination is working out well for Hunter Lawrence here
19:54today.
19:55Yeah, thanks.
19:56Oh, man.
19:57Yeah, get well soon there to Cam, who's the longtime mechanic for Hunter.
20:02Yeah, it just shows you.
20:03I mean, everybody carries the weight of these riders on their back.
20:08Team, everybody's invested.
20:10I don't know if Hutch is going to be able to claim that he was the difference maker, but
20:13something is working right for the 96.
20:16What a ride for Hunter Lawrence and really at the right time because Jet was starting to
20:21build a little bit of a win streak.
20:22We've seen that many times.
20:25Hunter's saying not this time.
20:27Yeah, Hunter's riding really good.
20:28And now I think that gap is growing because now Hunter can ride this racetrack.
20:32As JT said earlier, some tracks fit certain riders and it fits his brother, Jet Lawrence
20:37and Hunter being very patient.
20:39At some point, Jet was going to have to take that risk to try to catch Hunter Lawrence.
20:43Hunter responded.
20:44Now he can just ride this out.
20:45And what he's doing at this moment, keeping that gap and then recovering.
20:49So this first moto, yeah, they'll be tired, but him and Jet will be on the same level.
20:54He's resting.
20:57Would be able to cut the points gap from eight to five if he holds on.
21:01There's still 10 minutes to go, but the lead keeps growing.
21:08JT.
21:09Well, James, watching Hunter, it's remarkable because he's using a lot of unorthodox lines.
21:15He's actually using lines that not many other riders are using, going outsides a lot.
21:19And look at his last lap time.
21:22He was two and a half seconds plus better than anybody else on the racetrack, not even really
21:27going where you'd expect him to go.
21:28That shows you the power of a track that works with what you do well.
21:33This is Hunter Lawrence in prime form right here.
21:35Yeah, absolutely, JT.
21:37And also what it shows, we saw Cole Davies do the same thing on how slowing down and using
21:42these lines that nobody else is going.
21:43You can only do that if you're dictating the race.
21:46You're not being chased.
21:48You're leading the race.
21:49So he has the gap.
21:50Everybody has to react to him.
21:51And it's hard for guys in second place or anybody chasing Hunter Lawrence to do that
21:56because they have to hit the fastest line, which is the normal line.
22:00Hunter's getting the chance to score, and he's putting it down to these boys right now.
22:06And getting deep into lap traffic is Hunter, but he's got plenty of room to work with.
22:15Yeah, he's got plenty of room to work with, but at the same time, this racetrack has come
22:19up and bites you really quick.
22:20Those shiny spots, although he's probably somewhat relaxing, trying to hit his marks, he knows
22:26how quickly he hit one of those shiny spots.
22:28He'll be on the ground before you know it.
22:29That's high point.
22:32Checking in with Deegan, you can see Prado, this Deegan in blue.
22:36And then Prado is the next rider up ahead on the orange with the white and pink gear.
22:43It's in about this, two to three seconds between them for a while now.
22:47Now a lap rider splitting them.
22:49Here's Prado.
22:49Yeah, actually, Hayden got within one second of Jorge.
22:53Jorge responded back.
22:55So I don't know if Hayden made a mistake or Jorge's picked up the pace, but good response
22:59by Jorge not to let everything slip away.
23:02Because you know, once Hunter's in front of him, Jet, it's hard for a two-time world champion
23:06to stay focused, but he's able to do that in responding.
23:11Another battle here.
23:12So we mentioned Tondel, the FMF Privateer Power Award winner, at the beginning of the
23:16moto.
23:17There he is on that green Kawasaki.
23:19Now Ferrandez has caught him.
23:21Tondel trying to get a top 10, but Ferrandez looking to rip that away.
23:26This is 10th and 11th.
23:27There's Ferrandez, some 14.
23:29Yeah, and Dillon's the only other guy in this field that's won at this racetrack outside
23:34of Jet Lawrence.
23:34So Dillon's had some great experience, and he's had the experience winning this championship.
23:39So you would think he continues, he might be able to work his way around him, because
23:44he's done it before.
23:47We've got the Frenchman and our Norwegian here, and Ferrandez is the solo man for Ducati
23:54this weekend.
23:55Justin Barsha tweaked his back last week, still finished Moto 1, did not race Moto 2, and
24:00is out this weekend at high point.
24:02So I hope that he is okay moving forward.
24:04Here at Barsha, Tondel still, six minutes and two laps, he's going to have to deal with
24:11Ferrandez.
24:11Yeah, and he's got a little bit of gap, hit some great lines.
24:15Dillon made a small mistake, and that just showed you how missing a mark here, you can
24:20lose a lot of time on this racetrack.
24:26Ferrandez had that qualifying crash.
24:29We showed you earlier, luckily he was okay, as this team keeps developing the motorcycle.
24:37I talked to them last week, they said they're getting on the verge power-wise of that bike,
24:40or any more, it's going to be too much.
24:43So now they're about moving power around where the riders want it.
24:46Oh, can he get?
24:49Tondel here.
24:51Yes, Tondel, into the mud, in the center of that corner, and that allows Ferrandez to
24:56make the move.
24:57He got stuck in a rut.
24:59Yeah, literally there.
25:04And next in the order would be Hampshire, who might have crashed a couple times in this
25:09photo, had the visor problem.
25:11It does not matter.
25:12Hampshire's still going to fight.
25:15So Tondel might have more challenges before it's over, but here is Ferrandez, again, first
25:19year effort for Ducati in this sport with the Red Bull-Troy Lee Designs team.
25:24Yeah, doing a great job.
25:27Yeah, RJ, he's closing in, so he's going to have a battle on his hands.
25:33Tondel, that is.
25:35Yeah, RJ just never gives up.
25:37I don't need a C.
25:39Peek-a-boo.
25:40That's true.
25:41He'll figure it out no matter what he's dealing with.
25:44There's the 20 of Jordan Smith.
25:46So well done for Triumph here.
25:48This would be his best of the year for Smith, who's actually a 450 rookie.
25:53We saw it in about half of the Supercross races this year, but this is his first 450 campaign
25:58outdoors.
25:58And then he's got his teammate, Harrop, just ahead of him.
26:02That's actually a lap rider there on the 210.
26:04There's the 20 of Smith.
26:07Yeah, I was looking.
26:08I was like, I don't remember those graphics.
26:10Yeah, it is a different look.
26:12They got the Call of Duty sponsorship today for the gamers out there on both Smith and
26:18Harrop's bikes.
26:21Good for Jordan up here.
26:22Another guy that just needs some solid results and has plenty of speed, but injuries.
26:28And like you said, he's a rookie to this class, learning this.
26:32He'll figure it out.
26:33Stays on healthy.
26:34Well, he needs the diaper money also.
26:36He needs diaper time.
26:37About a week and a half old at home.
26:39So, good job, Jordan, keeping the focus at least as much as possible on race day.
26:46Father's Day helped you remind you that diaper money as well, too.
26:49That's right.
26:50It's a first for him.
26:52So, that's the 5-11 Triumph team.
26:54Got to be happy rallying today with both Harrop and Smith in the top 10.
26:59Webb, Blesinger, has made the moves.
27:01And I'll push Webb back to seven.
27:06There's Harrop, just ahead of Smith, about three seconds up the road.
27:10Katie.
27:11Yeah, and as we were just talking about Jordan Smith, Michael Harrop's another guy.
27:14We see him here on the 450 last year.
27:16We saw him cruising on that 250.
27:18Got a chance to talk with him earlier today about this 450, why he feels comfortable.
27:22He said, look, I'm 183, 184 pounds, 6-foot guy.
27:26I don't really like riding on the edge on that 250.
27:28I like the control of the 450 more.
27:30So, even just having that kind of underneath you can really move the needle to make a difference for these
27:36guys.
27:36His best finishes so far as a 9-year decision at 8 would be a little bit of a victory
27:40for him.
27:42Thanks, Katie.
27:43And an interesting situation for Harrop, who's really part of the MXGP team in Europe for Triumph.
27:48But they didn't have their 450 ready.
27:51The plan was that he'd race a 250 here last year.
27:54Though 450 was ready, he'd go back home.
27:56450 wasn't ready for the Grand Prix season this year.
27:59So, he stayed in America for one more year.
28:01Again, he is expected to go back next year.
28:04So, it's been fun to have him for two years in pro motocross.
28:07Really fun guy to talk to.
28:09As we go a little further up the track to Deegan.
28:12And the gap stays about the same.
28:13Now, it's two seconds between he and Prado.
28:15This is a battle of wills.
28:17Neither wants to get in.
28:19Yeah, they don't.
28:20I mean, at this point, it's the best of the rest because they were actually closed in on Jet Lawrence.
28:26And I wouldn't say he's kind of playing with his food.
28:28But he instantly picks it up two seconds.
28:31And he pulls away from these guys.
28:33And these guys have been battling each other, keeping each other away from them.
28:36So, yeah.
28:37I think at this point, it's third best.
28:39Let's see if Hayden can close up.
28:40And there's a lot of motivation still between these two.
28:44Hayden wants to beat everybody.
28:45Jorge wants not to be beat by the rookie.
28:47So, let's see if he can hold on for another minute and a half plus two laps.
28:53I feel like it's almost back where it's left off.
28:55Because when Prado had the bike problem at round two.
28:59He was trying to get Deegan for third.
29:01I don't know if he would have got there.
29:02But he was definitely digging and definitely thought he had a shot.
29:05And then the bike problem.
29:06Then a couple of bad races.
29:08Deegan.
29:09And there's still time here with a minute and two laps to go.
29:11This is about as close as he has been.
29:13Yeah.
29:14I mean, it has.
29:15And you're right.
29:16You go back to that hang town.
29:17These two were in that battle.
29:20So, yeah.
29:21Circumstances kind of change that dynamic.
29:23But at the same time, you know, you've got to start somewhere.
29:26And I know Hayden probably upset about what happened last week.
29:29Even though it's his own fault to cut the track.
29:31He feels like he's probably that third best guy.
29:33The guy that's going to beat the Lawrences.
29:36Throw another mix in there with Jorge Prada.
29:38It just makes it a lot difficult.
29:39So, Hayden wants to do that and try to eliminate Jorge if you can.
29:43And for those who were watching last week, y'all said that the Kunin twins coming over from Belgium last
29:47week.
29:47Jumping in as guest riders.
29:50And Lucas Kunin with the second overall.
29:52They'll be back in a couple of weeks for Southwick.
29:55Lucas in the 450 class.
29:57Sasha in 250.
29:58So, that's an interesting dynamic in this class as well.
30:01Go to MXGP.com to be able to watch them.
30:05They're racing this weekend.
30:07Back home.
30:08Here is Deegan.
30:09And you see three laps with the side from this mechanic.
30:13Brent Duffy.
30:14Deegan giving it all.
30:15And so is Prado.
30:17Yeah.
30:17And just to my point earlier where I was saying that the track is easy to make a lot of
30:21mistakes when you're starting to push it.
30:23So, that might be a little bit less what's happening with Hayden.
30:25He's closer to him.
30:27But every time he gets too close, he makes a small mistake and then just opens that gap, JT.
30:32Yeah.
30:33And just, you know, these last three laps.
30:34When you get that signal there with three laps, this is just all out sprint now.
30:38This is why you put in those hard days.
30:40That's why you press so hard.
30:42You know, your mid-moto, mid-week motos.
30:44All those times where it's like, I don't really feel like training this hard.
30:47It's to give you first an intensity in these last three laps.
30:51And this is just who has more in the tank.
30:53That's all it's going to come down to.
30:55We have seen Hayden Deegan prove time and time again, at this very racetrack even, it is really tough to
31:01deal with in this situation.
31:05Yes, Deegan has had some phenomenal comebacks at this track.
31:09But then you're talking about a multi-time champion ahead of him.
31:13So, which way is this going to go?
31:17Yeah, Jorge's kind of stuck between these frotters and above Hayden.
31:21You've got to kind of jump on him now.
31:23I feel like if Jorge gets through this and fills that gap up, then he's probably going to be able
31:27to hold it on.
31:28Because you guys have been this close for a lap now.
31:32Before he's gotten through.
31:34Yeah, he did it.
31:41If Jorge can hold on for this podium, is this a bit of a reset for him?
31:44If he can hold on and get back to where he probably feels he should have been all along?
31:48Yes and no.
31:49I mean, I think for this championship and just to get back in the fight, it is.
31:52But I know Jorge, you know, when you come in and have aspirations to win this championship, when you're not
31:58doing that or you get beat by the guys that you have to beat,
32:02it's still hard for him to be fully like, okay, I'm back in the game because of his own expectations.
32:08And so it is a win.
32:10I think it will help him continue to get back to that form to eventually be able to beat those
32:14guys.
32:15But it's a yes or no kind of answer on that situation.
32:18I see.
32:19Yeah, his standard is not third.
32:20Yeah.
32:20He's here to win.
32:22And right now, third's the best it's going to be.
32:24And can he do it?
32:24Deegan's still digging last time around.
32:30Deegan, a couple of tenths, about four tenths quicker than Prado.
32:36Yeah, but from looking at it now, he's starting to, Jorge's starting to open up that gap.
32:42That probably was due to the lap riders.
32:45Okay.
32:45And now that lap rider did not help Deegan.
32:50Oh, it's going to be tight.
32:52Lap and a half to go for the podium.
32:55That was a pretty good line by Hayden right there.
32:58He's kind of recovering.
32:59Just missed his mark and it threw him on the outside.
33:02But I like how he's able to charge.
33:05You can watch it here.
33:06You'll watch Jorge.
33:07Jorge rods like Jeff and Hunter a lot.
33:10And Hayden's the opposite.
33:11He really charges in and stuff.
33:12So when they get to some of these downhills and some of these corners,
33:15you'll see Hayden Deegan close in on Jorge.
33:17But throughout the corner, Jorge will kind of separate himself because he carries that speed.
33:22Just a difference in the rotting style that Captain Mouse game.
33:24That is what you talked about a lot with Jet Lawrence as the crowd is cheering.
33:27The beginning of the corner almost backs up.
33:31Yeah.
33:31Then turns it up.
33:32Yeah.
33:32And then he just carries the momentum.
33:34And what that allows him to do is it keeps the mistakes down, but it also keeps everybody engaged.
33:39And that's why for Jet Lawrence, it's important for those guys to race him early in a race while you're
33:44still bunched up.
33:45He gets that roll speed going in those opening laps.
33:48He'll just ride away and there's nothing you can really do.
33:51Just like Jorge starting to do the same thing now.
33:53Going to be a white flag here.
33:54Hunter Lawrence is headed for Daylight.
33:59Looking for his first photo win since the opener a couple of weeks ago.
34:02This would be huge.
34:05He takes another look over.
34:07He's not even going to see Jet back there.
34:08It is 16 and a half seconds.
34:12Yeah, actually, looking out of the thing, Jorge went down that straightaway.
34:16Jet Lawrence still wasn't by the mechanics there.
34:18So it's a huge...
34:19Yeah, they are closing because they're pushing each other.
34:23It's down to three seconds, Steve Lawrence and Prado.
34:30Yeah, Jet will probably take a look back.
34:32He did this about five laps ago.
34:34So I'm sure his mechanic told him, hey, that gap's not what you thought it was a lap before.
34:39And, again, Jorge senses that.
34:41Probably going to try to push it as well.
34:43Down to 2.2 between Jet Lawrence and Prado.
34:47Hunter heading home.
34:51Look at this.
34:53So that's...
34:53Now it's even less than 2.2.
34:55So Prado is at the bottom.
34:57Jet at the top of that bottom box shot.
35:01Prado trying to hold Deacon at bay has brought him all the way to the rear fender.
35:05Up, Lawrence.
35:07Yeah, I think what Jet kind of got caught sleeping.
35:11He got hung up by a lap rider.
35:12Now watch the difference.
35:14You can see, Jorge, how much time he closes in entering sections.
35:17So he's charging.
35:18And that's what this racetrack allows you to do.
35:21So he might have a run if Jet doesn't, you know, pay attention.
35:24That being said, little mistake.
35:26Jet gets away.
35:27About for second place.
35:30Oh, it's going to go down to the line.
35:33Prado digging deep.
35:35He was four seconds faster than Jet Lawrence last time around.
35:39Jet was just in that no man's land.
35:41No one to chase.
35:42No one chasing him until now.
35:44As for the leader, Hunter Lawrence has a couple moto wins on a 450.
35:48But it's going to be about as big as any of them.
35:51His brother had nothing.
35:54Was not able to close in at all once he got to second.
35:56Plus, he had the four moto win streak.
35:58This is going to end that.
35:59Hunter Lawrence saying, not so quick, everybody.
36:02Hunter Lawrence back on top.
36:05A cruise moto win at high point.
36:09And Jet turns it back up at the end.
36:13Yeah, great ride by both these guys.
36:16I think even just closing up on Jet kind of helps that Jorge Prado in that situation.
36:22And to pull away from Hayden Deegan.
36:23So, great ride by all four of these riders.
36:26Nobody was close to Hunter Lawrence this moto.
36:28No, absolutely.
36:29As I said, cruise ride for him.
36:31Deegan will end up fourth behind Prado.
36:33They just kept digging and digging and digging.
36:38Marchbanks marched his way all the way up to fifth.
36:41Great ending for him.
36:43He had the fastest lap of anyone in the last lap, Marchbanks.
36:46And there's the congrats.
36:48Hutch filling in as the mechanic.
36:50And the fans loving it from Hunter.
