00:00With America's 250th birthday fast approaching, Gallup decided to poll the country about whether
00:05or not they still believe in the American dream, a pillar of the nation's founding that hard work
00:10and freedom leads to success. 78% of those surveyed believe it is important to strive for
00:16the American dream, and 69% say they personally believe they will achieve it. That's a slight
00:21drop from a similar survey two years ago, but still pretty optimistic. But while a majority
00:26believe they can achieve their dreams, only 46% think that every American has the opportunity
00:31to do it. Not so optimistic. But despite high political polarization in the U.S., Americans
00:37across the political spectrum did find something they could agree on. A total of 60% of Democrats
00:42and 57% of Republicans said the dream was unfinished, while both parties and independents
00:47alike all called government reform the number one priority to ensure future generations can
00:52achieve the American dream. But that is where the similarities between the parties end.
00:5733% of Democrats say the American dream has failed, while only 11% of Republicans hold that
01:01belief. The flip of that, 33% of Republicans say the American dream has succeeded, but only
01:067% of Dems feel the same.
