The Rookie – Season 1 follows John Nolan, a 45-year-old man who decides to completely change his life after a traumatic event. Leaving behind his old career, he moves to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer with the LAPD. As the department's oldest rookie, Nolan faces skepticism from his superiors and fellow officers, who doubt whether he can handle the challenges of police work.

Alongside fellow rookies Lucy Chen and Jackson West, Nolan must prove that age is not a limitation while learning to survive the dangerous and unpredictable streets of Los Angeles. Season 1 combines action, drama, humor, and emotional character development as the rookies struggle to balance personal lives with the demands of law enforcement.

00:00Look out!
00:09Did that work out the way you planned it, Boop?
00:24No, no, no!
00:25I got a bullet in one hand, a cigar in the other,
00:28and I said to the chief, I said, you pin that medal.
00:30Right in the middle.
00:33Right?
00:35Hey, hey! Look at that!
00:37Officer John Nolan.
00:40Grittiest recruit I've ever trained.
00:41Good to see you.
00:43Only long-timers allowed in here, huh?
00:45You know the rules.
00:46I never met a rule I didn't break, Otto.
00:48Go get your old ass over to the bar and get a drink.
00:51Come on, it's on the hog!
00:52Woo! Sit down, man!
00:54Some place you got here?
00:55That's a dump.
00:57My credit is so good.
01:01You're like, oh, I don't know if I got this in me.
01:04Long time ago, man.
01:07I'll tell you, my talents are being wasted at the academy.
01:11I mean, seven years is too long to keep the hog cooped up.
01:13Uh-huh.
01:14Yeah.
01:14No, I need to get back out there on the street, man.
01:16I don't take a real door, you know?
01:17Just throw some bullets.
01:18I thought you were trying to get assigned to Mid-Wilshire.
01:20Oh, I was.
01:21But you're captain.
01:23You didn't block me.
01:27So, enough about me.
01:28Let's talk about you.
01:29So tell me, right now.
01:30How's the real thing compared to that academy?
01:32You were right about the job.
01:34It is nothing like the academy.
01:35That's right.
01:36That's right.
01:36I never teach by the manual.
01:38Never.
01:39Well, I wouldn't have been ready if it wasn't for you.
01:42You were the only one who showed me any support at the academy.
01:44That's right.
01:45There's a whole generation of cops with the hog brand on them.
01:47You should be proud of me.
01:48I don't have to be blowing smoke.
01:49You know what?
01:50I don't need you to tell me how pretty I am.
01:52I'm good, because I'm a terrible liar.
01:53Yes, you are.
01:54You are terrible.
01:55Okay.
01:57I gotta wrap it up.
01:58I gotta get out of here.
01:59It's a school night, and I am not good enough at this job to do it all over.
02:02Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
02:03Come on, come on, come on.
02:04You can't tap out on me tonight.
02:05No way.
02:05The night is too young, and I am in no hurry to get back to that motel.
02:09None.
02:10A motel?
02:12Yeah.
02:12Not my wife.
02:13She, uh...
02:14Not that she'll kick me out.
02:16No.
02:16Hey, that's no big deal.
02:20It's no big deal.
02:21Marriages are tough, right?
02:22You've been there.
02:23Yes.
02:25Just...
02:25I don't know.
02:26I just need to give her a little space.
02:29That's all.
02:33You know, look.
02:33I got a great couch.
02:34Why don't you crash at my place tonight?
02:36No.
02:36I'm all paid for the week at Travel Inn.
02:40Man, I have got clean sheets.
02:42I got cold pizza, premium cable.
02:45Huh?
02:45Right?
02:46Hey, if that's not living the dream, my friend...
02:48Yeah.
02:49Man, I don't know what is, right?
02:54God.
02:54All right, give me this pansy.
03:01I've never seen him like that.
03:03He's usually so confident, so self-assured, so...
03:05Arrogant.
03:07You know he's living in a motel now?
03:08That's what happens when you try to be big policeman at home.
03:11You end up on the couch.
03:13Tim rode with Hawk back in the day.
03:15Damn straight.
03:16Craziest six months of my life.
03:17Mm-hmm.
03:18Nolan hung out with them last night.
03:20Hawk and Nolan?
03:20Oh, yeah.
03:21They were tied at the academy.
03:23They bonded over there.
03:24Shared love of old stuff.
03:25The Beastie Boys isn't old.
03:26They formed before I was born.
03:28All right, everyone take a seat.
03:30Got some catching up to do.
03:33Let's go.
03:38First, let's congratulate Officer Chen for allowing her T.O.
03:42to finish his coffee before rolling their vehicle.
03:49I see training's working out for you.
03:52All right, more pressingly.
03:55Midnight Shift was flooded with calls last night,
03:57and they left us with their mess.
03:59Let's get started.
04:01Our detectives are working on homicide in Larchmont Village,
04:04but there are witnesses that still need to be interviewed.
04:08Bishop and Nolan, you'll take that.
04:10And burglary.
04:11He's got a search warrant that patrol didn't get around to.
04:14Bradford and Chen, you'll take that.
04:16Come on, why can't burglars serve their own damn warrants?
04:18Because they don't have the vim and vigor you have, Officer Bradford.
04:23This is yours.
04:25With all the faces.
04:26Don't worry.
04:27I have pending calls for everybody.
04:29All right, let's go knock them out
04:31and show the late shift how real police work is done.
04:36All right, we're serving a search warrant.
04:38You see door hinges?
04:40The door opens outwards towards us.
04:42What's a fatal funnel?
04:43The first three feet in any doorway.
04:45Not bad.
04:46Here's the real test.
04:48Of all the things burglary told us about our suspect,
04:52Leshawn Halverson, what's most important?
04:55A history of fighting with police.
04:57Wrong.
04:58This guy's been served seven search warrants,
05:00spent half his life on parole.
05:02Uh, I'm sorry.
05:03I'm not sure I follow.
05:04He's been searched a lot.
05:05He knows what doesn't work,
05:07so to find his stash, you'll have to think like a crook.
05:09Can you do that?
05:10Of course.
05:13You don't think I can?
05:15I think you were raised to analyze bad guys,
05:17not be one, and to be a great cop,
05:19and then have a little outlaw on you.
05:21Hinges?
05:22On the inside.
05:26Police!
05:27Open up, Leshawn.
05:30What?
05:31What's an acceptable amount of time to wait
05:32before we bust in?
05:37That had to hurt.
05:39Why don't you like Hawk?
05:41He's a throwback.
05:42He thinks the good old days were when the LAPD
05:44was 90% white men.
05:45Really?
05:46Didn't strike me as that guy.
05:47I'm sure he didn't.
05:49Police department!
05:52Hello?
05:53You called last night.
05:54You said you had some information about a homicide,
05:55stabbing that happened around the corner.
05:57Oh, yeah!
05:57Uh, I was waiting so long,
05:59I fell asleep on the couch.
06:01Can you tell us what you witnessed?
06:04I'll do better than that!
06:05I'll show you!
06:08Come on!
06:12Yo, lady cop.
06:14You can search my place all day.
06:17I'm gonna get to face the wall
06:18before I snap the other eye out of your head.
06:21You need to learn some respect.
06:23Okay, come on, Officer Chen.
06:25Think like a crook.
06:26When's the last time you hit anything under a couch?
06:28Eighth grade?
06:28You know how many times I couldn't find my phone
06:30and it was under the couch the whole time?
06:32This isn't that.
06:33You ever heard of the deer method?
06:34D-E-A-R?
06:35No.
06:36There are four principles of concealment.
06:38First is deception.
06:39D.
06:40Deception shows you one thing,
06:42but it's really something else.
06:48E is for elusive.
06:49What appears to be nothing is actually something.
06:55A for access.
06:57Things hard to get to.
06:58High places.
06:59Low places.
06:59Brinkin' at the share of the daring chicks
07:01in the marriages.
07:02Oh, yeah.
07:03Marry me, baby.
07:08Which brings us to R.
07:11R is for repulsive.
07:13Toilets.
07:13Garbage.
07:14Porn collection.
07:15Anything that makes you want to puke
07:16makes a crook want to hide things there.
07:17You've got to be kidding me.
07:19Might want to globe up.
07:20Saw a box of sex toys in the master bedroom.
07:22And don't forget the toilet.
07:24Search before you flush.
07:25Wait.
07:26Why do I have to be R?
07:28I don't want to be R.
07:29I could be elusive.
07:30Or deceptive.
07:31Or something.
07:44I was cleaning the garage.
07:46And this guy ran in.
07:48A guy I had never met.
07:49He was covered in blood.
07:50He had a knife.
07:51I told him,
07:52you're not going to get far dressed like that.
07:54So he wanted my shirt.
07:55Did you give it to him?
07:56Of course not.
07:57So then what happened?
07:59All those karate lessons paid off.
08:07The knife's on the work bench.
08:12Do I get a medal?
08:15Give us a second.
08:21So do we arrest him too?
08:23I mean he kind of kidnapped a guy.
08:26He used reasonable force for a citizen's arrest.
08:29And we can log a collar on 187.
08:31Days off to a good start.
08:47What the hell?
08:50What?
08:51I've been back there for 20 minutes digging through Caligula's toy chest.
08:56And you've had this the whole time?
08:58Well, not the whole time.
09:00It took me three or four minutes.
09:01Mm-hmm.
09:02You find anything?
09:03Uh, yeah.
09:05Horrid, filthy things.
09:14What's this call again?
09:16Woman called 911 last night to report a domestic disturbance.
09:19Her midnight shift never got to it.
09:22Good morning, Mrs. Mitchell.
09:24Sorry about the delay responding to your call.
09:27Is something wrong?
09:28No, honey.
09:29They're friends of your father.
09:31Jump in the car.
09:32We'll head to school in a sec.
09:39I'm sorry.
09:40I made a mistake calling you.
09:43No, you didn't.
09:45Clearly something happened last night that made you call 911.
09:49What was it?
09:54Logan was at his grandmother's across the street.
09:57So I had a date over.
09:59Things started heating up.
10:01And that's when he stormed in.
10:03Drunk.
10:04He being your husband?
10:06Soon to be ex.
10:07I just filed for divorce.
10:09Usually I can keep him calm.
10:12But when he saw Mike, he pulled out a gun.
10:15He hit him in the face.
10:16He made him leave in his underwear.
10:18Said it was called walking the plank.
10:19Did your husband hurt you?
10:20No.
10:21Never.
10:23It's just he's been acting so crazy since I served papers.
10:26You told your son that we were friends of his father's.
10:29I'm guessing that means your husband's a cop?
10:31Last name Mitchell?
10:34My maiden name is Mitchell, actually.
10:37My married name is Hawk.
10:41Your husband's Jeremy Hawk?
10:43Yes.
10:44And that's why I shouldn't have called.
10:46He could lose his job over this.
10:48His pension.
10:49I understand.
10:49But what you described are crimes.
10:52Assault and battery.
10:53Brandishing a firearm.
10:55Does this mean you're gonna arrest him?
11:00It means we're gonna call the watch commander and ask him how he wants us to proceed.
11:07Okay, down to two pending calls.
11:10Must've been nice to have a champion at the academy.
11:13I sure didn't.
11:14Hawk saw something in me.
11:16Probably because we were closer in age than most of the ruggies.
11:20Founded over our kids.
11:22Now his was a little younger than Henry, but since I'd already been through all the terrible teenage years, I
11:26gave him some harder for winners.
11:27Never took it easy on me, though.
11:30If anything, he pushed me harder.
11:337 Adam 15.
11:34We have priority dispatch for you.
11:36Call Sergeant Gray.
11:37Details to your box.
11:38Not for broadcast.
11:40What does that mean?
11:41Nothing good.
11:45It's Bishop.
11:45What's up?
11:46Need Nolan.
11:47Put me on speaker.
11:51I heard you were with Jeremy Hawk last night.
11:53Uh, yeah.
11:54At a bar.
11:55Everything okay?
11:56He could be in some trouble.
11:58I said no criminal charges yet, but he had an incident with his wife.
12:00You know where he is?
12:01I know where he's staying.
12:02Good.
12:03Bring him to the captain's office immediately.
12:05Yes, sir.
12:05We're en route.
12:07I knew something was wrong.
12:21There he is.
12:30Do you mind if I do the talking?
12:32He was a little upset last night.
12:33I'd like you to be the one to break it to him.
12:35Okay, but he's got a very short leash.
12:38Hey.
12:39Hey.
12:39Got a call from the watch commander.
12:41Something about an incident last night.
12:42What's going on?
12:43The administration has it out for me.
12:44That's what's going on.
12:45Alright.
12:46Well, they said it had something to do with Megan.
12:49Anyway, Sarge sent us to come get you.
12:51Yeah, yeah.
12:52No, I got his messages.
12:53I'll get there when I get there.
12:56Yeah, but he told us to come get you.
13:00What?
13:00I'm not under arrest, right?
13:02No, it's just administrative at this point.
13:04Enough.
13:04You have a direct order.
13:06See the captain immediately.
13:07That means now.
13:09What?
13:10Are we doing this, Bishop?
13:14Ask me, tell me, make me?
13:16You're gonna go there.
13:17No, no one's going anywhere.
13:19Alright?
13:19We're just following orders here, Jeremy.
13:22And you always taught me to confront my problems head on.
13:24So let's just go get this taken care of.
13:29I'm sorry.
13:30I'm sorry.
13:31You're right.
13:31What's up?
13:32Where's that couch?
13:33Actually, hold on a second.
13:34I just gotta grab my wallet.
13:42Hey.
13:43Hawk?
13:44What are you doing?
13:45Hawk!
13:46Hawk!
13:47What are you doing?
13:48Don't do it!
13:50Hawk!
13:51Hawk!
14:01He knew just how to disable us.
14:07Yes, sir.
14:08I understand.
14:09Eye has been notified.
14:10I will let you know as soon as he comes in.
14:12Yes, I understand.
14:14Okay.
14:15Chief is concerned.
14:16He wants us to take care of this quickly and quietly.
14:20You still think it was a bad idea for me to block Hawk from getting assigned here?
14:23He's a veteran cop who gets the job done.
14:25Hell, he's earned 46 letters of accommodation.
14:27And 21 civilian complaints.
14:29When you do proactive police work, you're gonna get complaints.
14:3221 of them.
14:35Wait, look.
14:36I know we haven't worked together that long.
14:37But I know for a fact you would never let one of your cops become this reckless.
14:40Am I right?
14:41No, I wouldn't.
14:44Look, Hawk is not coming in.
14:45He ran from Bishop and Nolan.
14:47They lost him.
14:49Judge, show the guy a little dignity for the good work he's done.
14:51This is how he thanks us.
14:52Yes.
14:53Hey, we just left the hospital.
14:55The man Hawk hit.
14:56Mike Gabriel has a busted nose.
14:57Lost a tooth.
14:58Judge signed the arrest warrant.
14:59It's in the system now.
15:00No bail.
15:01You put out a bolo on Hawk and his truck.
15:03Notify the CHP.
15:04Ping his cell.
15:05Monitor his bank cards.
15:06You let patrol know that they need to be careful.
15:08He has clearly gone over the edge.
15:09We'll need to interview the wife.
15:11And, uh, Hawk's buddy Nolan?
15:13Do it.
15:17Dispatch Ping his phone.
15:18Shows his location as 10 yards in front of us.
15:227 Adam 19.
15:23Show us code 6 at Riverside in Woodman.
15:25No sign of suspect Hawk's vehicle.
15:28Check Utah Plate 6 Mary Ocean 1 7 Adam.
15:32Can't believe we're hunting Jeremy Hawk.
15:34Man bleeds LAPD.
15:36I was first on scene when the guy was taking 2-2-3 rounds
15:39using the curb for cover.
15:48Hawk?
15:50It's Tim.
15:51We're gonna get to the bottom of this.
15:53Come out.
15:54Let's talk.
15:55Hey.
15:56Sorry.
15:57No Hawk here.
15:59We met back at the motel though.
16:01Did he do something wrong?
16:02Was he ever inside your vehicle?
16:04Nope.
16:30He really is running.
16:32He knew he'd track his cell so he planted it on someone going anywhere he's not.
16:36Just thinking like a criminal.
16:38Worse.
16:39Like a criminal cop.
16:41He knows how we do things what we expect.
16:43He's always a step ahead.
16:49I can't believe Hawk is a fugitive.
16:52You ever arrest a cop before?
16:53Yeah.
16:54First year as a P2.
16:55Officer Numski.
16:56Lifted a brick of coke from a crime scene.
16:58Stalled like a baby when I put the cuffs on him.
17:00Did you feel bad?
17:01No.
17:01Fucking a fellow officer up?
17:02No.
17:03Having a badge means you're held to a higher standard, not lower one.
17:06You had Hawk at the academy, right?
17:08Yeah.
17:08Between you and me, he was a lousy instructor.
17:10All he did was talk about his glory days and give us questionable advice.
17:13That pretty much boiled down to be a badass.
17:16I was in this situation, he didn't come down.
17:18Mr. Campbell?
17:19I'm Officer Lopez.
17:20This is Officer West.
17:21We understand that you were a victim of a shooting.
17:23You want to tell us what happened?
17:25Yeah, the neighborhood's full of gangs.
17:27And you people, you ain't gonna do nothing about it.
17:30That's what happened.
17:31Sir, if we could just hear from your son.
17:33The nurse said detectives handle stuff like this.
17:35But we come out first to assess.
17:37Okay?
17:40It was a drive-by.
17:42Car came right at me.
17:43I got hit.
17:44It took off.
17:45Just one shot?
17:46I think so.
17:48It may not happen so fast.
17:50Where did the shooting take place?
17:51It took place in front of the house.
17:53That's where it took place at.
17:54That's what happens when you hang around the wrong people.
17:56Are you saying you know who did this?
17:57No, I'm saying he need to listen to his father.
17:59That's what I'm saying.
18:00Sir, I understand your anger.
18:01But we need to finish questioning your son.
18:03I'd like to be able to do that with you in the room,
18:05but I can have Officer West take you into the hall.
18:08Will that be necessary?
18:13Good.
18:15Can we see your injury, please?
18:26I just feel like I could have done more.
18:28Like what?
18:29Fixed Hawk's marriage?
18:30No, just made him come with me and talk some sense into him.
18:32It wouldn't have made a difference.
18:33The guy's clearly been on edge for a while.
18:35Last night he fell off.
18:35You know, it saved everyone a lot of grief if you had a hooked Hawk up back at the motel.
18:39That's not helpful, Sanford.
18:40We just have a few questions to ask.
18:42You'll be back on the street before you know it.
18:43Sure.
18:43Who do you want to talk to first?
18:45What do you think?
18:49I hate this guy.
18:56Hey.
18:58Take it to go.
19:02Have a seat.
19:03Do you need anything?
19:04Some coffee?
19:04Oh, thanks.
19:06Am I in trouble here?
19:07No.
19:07Maybe.
19:09Well, that clears it up.
19:10How well do you know Jeremy Hawk?
19:13He was my TAG instructor at the academy.
19:15We became friends.
19:17Went out for beers a few times.
19:19I hadn't seen him in about a month.
19:20Until last night.
19:21Right.
19:22Did he tell you he was going to scare the wife and assault the boyfriend?
19:25Of course not.
19:26He was...
19:28He was drunk.
19:30I tried to convince him to come crash on my couch.
19:32He insisted on going back to his motel.
19:34I thought he was just having a bad night.
19:36A bad night?
19:37His career was going nowhere.
19:38His marriage was over and he was drinking too much.
19:40That doesn't sound like a bad night.
19:42That sounds like a desperate man.
19:43Yes.
19:44Well, I see that now.
19:46I wish I had last night.
19:47Is that why you let him escape?
19:49He was feeling guilty.
19:55I...
19:59Look, Bishop and I went to pick him up.
20:02He ran.
20:03End of story.
20:04Do you have any idea where Hawk might go?
20:07No.
20:09Would you tell us if you knew?
20:11Yes.
20:17You okay?
20:18Yeah, but they better hope I don't get them for Secret Santa.
20:21Don't sweat it.
20:22You did everything right.
20:23I'll tell him that.
20:24Thanks.
20:30Megan?
20:31Uh, John Nolan.
20:33I met you at Hawk's birthday party.
20:35Yes, of course.
20:36Hawk, uh, talked about you a lot, actually.
20:38He said you were an inspiration.
20:40Oh, kind of worst kid on the team finally gets a chance to play kind of inspiration?
20:44No.
20:45Because you did it.
20:46You changed your life.
20:48I mean, Jeremy talked about leaving the department.
20:51But deep down he knew that he needed to be the legend.
20:54Right.
20:55I mean, my uncle offered him a job last year.
20:57Great money, selling security gear.
21:00But then, Jeremy wouldn't be the Hawk anymore.
21:03You know, he didn't know who he was without that.
21:06We're gonna bring him back, safe and sound.
21:08I doubt that.
21:11If I learned anything about Hawk in 15 years of marriage, it's that he is too stubborn to
21:15ever say he's sorry and too proud to ever give up.
21:19How am I supposed to tell my son about this?
21:23He idolizes his death.
21:26Excuse me.
21:27I'm sorry.
21:28I have sent a unit to pick up your son.
21:29If you need anything, just ask.
21:32Just a moment.
21:36Did you speak to Paige and Moda?
21:38Yeah, Bishop's in there with him right now.
21:40And she's done.
21:42You get back out there.
21:44Find this guy.
21:45Yes, ma'am.
21:51Don't let the detectives get under your head.
21:53Do they really think I let him escape?
21:54Not after I was done with them.
21:56Seven out of 15, respond to an ATM hit for suspect Hawk near your location, 9455 Lakership.
22:02He picked that ATM for a reason.
22:04There's three freeways near here.
22:06He could be on any one of them and in the wind in less than a minute, so...
22:10Which one do we pick?
22:11None of them.
22:12He's trying to trick us.
22:14Make her right here.
22:18He won't take the freeway.
22:19He knows police tactics.
22:21He knows.
22:21We'll set up on it so we can catch him.
22:23He'll use surface streets.
22:27There he is.
22:28I'm gonna start calling you Yoda.
22:30No you're not.
22:31Light him up.
22:32Seven out of 15 in pursuit of suspect Hawk heading east on L.
22:49Is that a grenade?
22:50Smoke grenade.
23:02Where is he?
23:09Where did he go?
23:10Did we lose him?
23:13There.
23:13Right there.
23:14Seven out of 15.
23:15We've got him eastbound.
23:16Orson approaching Riverdale.
23:17He's not yielding.
23:23He's speeding.
23:24Speed's climbing.
23:25Northbound now.
23:26He's burning lights.
23:36Two near misses.
23:37We have to end this.
23:38Hawk is gonna get somebody killed.
23:39He can roll if they pin him at this speed.
23:42Yeah, we have to risk it.
23:43You tell them to find the right spot.
23:45And do it.
23:50Anderson.
23:52Hit Hawk's car.
23:53I'm giving you permission.
23:54It's top heavy.
23:55It can flip.
23:55Hit it hard and get out of the way.
23:57Got it.
24:06Oh no.
24:15Seven out of 15.
24:16Negative on any pit.
24:17Hawk's son is on board.
24:20How did this happen?
24:23How does he take my son?
24:28He went straight to the school after he fled the motel.
24:31Listen to me.
24:32I'm telling you.
24:33I'm gonna get your son back.
24:35I promise.
24:37Hawk was terrified that I would get full custody.
24:42As messed up as you think my husband is, he loves our son.
24:47He will not give him up willingly.
25:07I think they're both lying.
25:09Tell me why.
25:10Okay, he said the head wound was back to front.
25:12But the car drove at him, so the wound should be front to back.
25:16Good.
25:16What else?
25:17See the stripling around the wound?
25:19I suggest that the gunshot was at close range.
25:21Not shot from a car.
25:23You minor in forensics in college?
25:25Nope.
25:26Just looked at a bunch of crime scene pics with my dad.
25:29So, what are we gonna do now?
25:31We're supposed to call detectives and stand by to stand by.
25:34But we're not gonna do that?
25:36I don't like being lied to.
25:39I hear that.
25:40Let's jack him up.
25:44Seven out of 19.
25:45We're on intercept course with Hawk's truck.
25:47Three blocks out from closing.
25:49Is this safe with Hawk's kid in the car?
25:51Hawk thinks we've fallen back into tracking mode.
25:53He doesn't know we blocked the streets, turned the lights green to funnel him towards us.
25:56He won't see the roadblock coming.
25:58To him it looks like we've fallen back.
25:59Yeah, but won't all the green lights look suspicious?
26:01He won't notice.
26:02What appears to be nothing, remember?
26:06You're dear method incarnate.
26:08You've got a tactic for our situation, don't you?
26:10Maybe.
26:11What if you get robbed?
26:13At gunpoint?
26:14Easy.
26:15Deception.
26:16I carry an empty wallet.
26:17If I ever got robbed, I'd drop my fake,
26:19pull my peace and goodnight, nurse.
26:20So, where do you keep your cards?
26:23Money.
26:24Money clip behind my belt.
26:28Okay.
26:28You're officially weird.
26:30Get ready.
26:31It's going down.
26:31Seven out of 19 about to intercept.
26:33Make sure you're blocking in.
26:34Seven out of 15, copy.
26:39He just did a hard left turn.
26:41Looks like he knows what we're gonna do.
26:43The SOB must still have his radio.
26:52Hawk, I know you can hear me.
26:53You need to pull over right now.
27:00Hawk?
27:03Not good at calling it quits knowing you know that.
27:05A lot of boys at Pelican Bay can attest to that.
27:08So what, you're gonna join them?
27:09That is never gonna happen.
27:12What's your end game here, Hawk?
27:13You're just gonna escape the pursuit and live happily ever after?
27:16Didn't you learn anything in class, Nolan?
27:18This is a tactical situation, not a strategic one.
27:21Long term isn't about the conversation.
27:23The initial obstacle is the pursuit.
27:24Once I lose that, just focus on the next step.
27:26What about Logan?
27:27Are you prepared for something to happen to him?
27:29You leave my son out of this.
27:30Don't use me against my dad.
27:32He said you'd try that and that you'd lie about everything.
27:35But it won't work.
27:36We're in this together.
27:37Whatever happens to him, happens to me.
27:40I'm not lying, Logan.
27:41Your father is.
27:42He's lost control.
27:45You're done.
27:47Logan?
27:50Hawk?
27:51He's done talking.
27:57What's the latest?
27:58Hawk avoided the spike strips.
27:59He's commanded to run it.
28:00And his kid's a willing participant.
28:02What do you want us to do?
28:04Grass wants us to proceed with caution now that it's all over the news.
28:07The more time we give Hawk, the more chance he'll have to figure out a way to escape.
28:10Can't risk that.
28:11Not with this kid in jeopardy.
28:14First chance we get to end this, take it.
28:25Mr. Campbell, do you have a minute?
28:28Shouldn't you be out there chasing that guy?
28:31I thought you wanted us here investigating who shot your son.
28:34You said it was a detective's job.
28:36They're a little busy.
28:38So they asked us to stay here, dig a little deeper.
28:41It's not a problem, is it?
28:42No.
28:43Good.
28:45Earlier, you acted like you knew who shot your son.
28:48Said he was hanging out with the wrong people.
28:50Who are you talking about?
28:52No one.
28:52It was just in general, you know.
28:54No, I don't know.
28:56He's been acting differently for the last year or so.
28:59Talking back, not listening.
29:01He's a teenager.
29:02Are you saying he's to blame for getting shot?
29:03That's not what I said.
29:04Don't put words in my mouth.
29:06I don't have a clue who shot him, okay?
29:10End of story.
29:14Is it just you and your dad?
29:16Yeah.
29:17My mom took off when I was little.
29:19It's tough.
29:21Especially with a dad like yours.
29:24What's that supposed to mean?
29:25Let's just say that I know a thing or two about parental expectations.
29:32Yeah, my father was always pushing me to be better, to work harder, take everything he said as gospel.
29:39It can be a lot.
29:41Especially if you disappoint him.
29:45It was a drive-by.
29:48No, it wasn't.
29:49The gun was close when it went off.
29:52Your ear on that side is probably still ringing.
29:56Look, let me help you.
29:59Please.
30:01It was a drive-by.
30:13Why is he going this way?
30:18What's his plan?
30:19We were just trying to figure that out.
30:20How would you get away?
30:21Job number one would be to lose air support.
30:23No way to escape the eye in the sky.
30:25What about you?
30:26Go somewhere packed with people, overwhelmed with resources, switch cars.
30:29Does every cop have an escape plan?
30:31Most.
30:32Hawk and I worked the car one summer.
30:34We were a two-man wrecking crew.
30:36Took down some heavy hitters.
30:37We talked about how we run from the cops because it made us better hunters.
30:47Covered parking, tons of people, he's going to the mall.
30:49We need to get it now.
30:56Set us back headed to the Mayor Street Mall to additional units code 3.
31:14Hawk!
31:29I'll go get a key from the security guard.
31:35Don't do this, Hawk.
31:37This has escalated way out of your control.
31:39You know that.
31:40Yeah, well, that's what happens when they push a man too far.
31:42They?
31:42Yeah, they.
31:43Who's they?
31:43They didn't do anything.
31:45You got drunk and you went to your wife's house and assaulted her boyfriend.
31:49And then you ran away?
31:51There's nothing honorable in that.
31:52You go, you go.
31:53No, no, no.
31:54Let him stay.
31:54Logan, you stay.
31:55He has a right to know what you're running away from.
31:57What he's risking his life to protect.
31:59God, your son idolizes you.
32:02You are letting him down.
32:05You told me you teach by example.
32:06Tell me what you're teaching him right now.
32:08Teaching him?
32:09Yes.
32:09My wife wants sole custody of my son.
32:11I went there.
32:12I'm the one who tried to reason.
32:14And she's in there with a naked man in my slippers in my bed.
32:17Huh?
32:17What the hell am I supposed to do with that?
32:19Deal with it.
32:20Deal with it?
32:20Like a grunt.
32:21Dad, we gotta go.
32:22Son.
32:24Listen, Hawk.
32:25Please.
32:27You will never forgive yourself if anything happens to him.
32:30It's time to be a father and do the right thing.
32:45You know what?
32:46It's right.
32:46He's right.
32:50He's right, Stan.
32:51It's where the end of the road is.
32:52Right here.
32:53We're done.
32:53No, Dad.
32:54I don't care what you did.
32:55I'm going with you.
32:56You said we were in this together.
33:02Yeah, what?
33:06But you, you're just going to slow me down.
33:10Dad!
33:11I'm sorry.
33:12I love you.
33:14Dad, are you kidding me?
33:16Dad, stop!
33:18Dad!
33:19Dad!
33:20Dad!
33:21Dad!
33:22He's on the perimeter.
33:24He's right.
33:25He's right.
33:26He's right.
33:27Mr. Block, there was something.
33:28Where does this door leave?
33:29Interior hallway.
33:30From there, you can go anywhere in the mall.
33:31Places the public can't access.
33:33You made him leave me behind.
33:36He was safer with me.
33:47Logan's safe.
33:49We got him away from Hawk.
33:51Oh, God.
33:54Officers are bringing him back now.
33:56He's not hurt.
33:58But he's angry.
34:00Your husband lied about what was happening.
34:04So Hawk blames me.
34:06I think he blames everybody.
34:08Except himself.
34:12Hey.
34:17You've done nothing wrong.
34:19Do you have a right to be happy?
34:22To be in a healthy relationship?
34:24To not live in fear of saying something or doing something that is going to set him off?
34:31Sounds like hard-won knowledge.
34:36My ex wasn't exactly Hawk.
34:39But he wasn't healthy either.
34:44Where's my husband now?
34:47He's stolen the loose.
34:51But we're going to get him.
34:53Make sure it's secure.
34:54Time element since we have the visual.
34:55Four minutes.
34:57Four minutes?
34:57Thin, but we have units moving in at every exit.
34:59We'll have full containment in a few minutes.
35:00If I were him, I'd head back to the parking garage and just steal a car.
35:03Get lost in the stream heading out.
35:04I'd change clothes, pull the fire alarm, blend in with the fleeing crowd.
35:07Sewer system.
35:08That's the way to go.
35:08Dogs can't track him.
35:09Good current.
35:10Be in Chinatown in 15 minutes.
35:11All units be advised, man with a gun at Lowrington Financial, code 3.
35:15That's six blocks from here.
35:16Description on gunman.
35:17No, sir.
35:18911 call cut off before we can get more information.
35:21That's how I do it.
35:23Call in a false report.
35:24Pulls manpower away, divides our resources, frees up and exit.
35:27That call's not real, that's Hawk.
35:29And if it's not, if the call's real and we don't divert units over immediately,
35:33what happens then?
35:42What did you do?
35:44Hey, get the hell out of here.
35:45No.
35:46I have every right to be here.
35:47You can't stop me from seeing him.
35:48You're the reason he's like this.
35:49Hey, hey.
35:50Hey, make it out of here.
35:51Enough.
35:52Hey, stop.
35:54Everett, don't.
36:00Who the hell is he?
36:01He's my boyfriend.
36:08Breathe.
36:39It's over, Hawk.
36:45You know the drill.
36:46Slide the gun over here, get on the ground.
36:50That's not going to happen.
36:52You already made a mistake.
36:55There's no clear line of fire in here.
36:59You want to shoot me?
37:01You can shoot him.
37:02I'll tell you something.
37:09That doesn't concern me.
37:11Easy boot.
37:12He's not going to shoot you.
37:15He's trying suicide by cop.
37:18How many times did we run this scenario in the academy?
37:20What do you always say about guys who go down like this?
37:25That's how cops are going to talk about you.
37:27You want me to go down without a fight?
37:30You want me to go down like this?
37:30Nobody's saying that.
37:31I was.
37:40Oh, this is going to be good.
37:42Huh?
37:43Oh, this is going to be good, Jamie.
37:45Not really a fair fight, but it's going to be good because I trained both of you.
37:48The one in the field, the one in the classroom, and I know your strengths, and I know your weaknesses.
38:00Where's your bladed stance, huh?
38:01Always come in with your hand.
38:02Hey!
38:03Deep, deep!
38:04Go!
38:06Get off.
38:08You were supposed to arrest him, not get in the brawl.
38:11We had him.
38:14Mm-hmm.
38:30How's Everett?
38:33Just heading to jail.
38:35You know, it's interesting.
38:36You asked about him first, not your dad.
38:42How was he?
38:43Out of surgery.
38:45He'll pull through.
38:47You know, we had his hands tested for gunshot residue while he was under.
38:52Found trace amounts.
38:57We found a lot more on you.
39:01See, at first, I thought you might have tried to attempt suicide.
39:05Your dad was on you so much about being gay, that you couldn't take it anymore.
39:09He tried to stop you, and you ended up in here.
39:12But that's not what happened, is it?
39:14It was a drive-by.
39:16I have a new theory.
39:18See, I think that you snapped.
39:21With all his bullying and derision.
39:23I think that you tried to kill him.
39:25You struggled for the gun, and it went off.
39:28And you got hit.
39:29I think that you can't prove any of that.
39:31It's not my job.
39:34Detectives will be here shortly.
39:36You know, maybe you'll walk away.
39:38Maybe you won't.
39:40Either way, you need to understand that his actions don't excuse yours.
39:46You could have asked for help.
39:48Or left home.
39:51Instead, you might have just destroyed three lives.
39:57See, that's what happens when you choose a permanent solution for a temporary problem.
40:07Look, we can't choose our fathers.
40:11But we can choose how we let them shape us.
40:32Hey, are you headed home?
40:34Uh, yeah.
40:35Will you come to see me?
40:36No, I'm...
40:37Well, yeah.
40:38Um, I just wanted to check and make sure you were okay after everything.
40:43that happened.
40:46You're thinking I may be feeling a little responsible for rejecting Hawk's application
40:50to get back out on the street.
40:51Yeah.
40:53I don't.
40:54Look, what Hawk needed wasn't here.
40:57It's easy to let this job define you.
40:59It's a lot more difficult to make it only part of your life.
41:03I'll remember that.
41:06Have a good night.
41:08Nolan.
41:10Hawk admired you for reinventing yourself.
41:13The thing he didn't understand is how much work you had to put into it.
41:18The fact that you did it at the lowest point in your life...
41:22It's something to be proud of.
41:27Does that mean I'm off probation?
41:29Get out of here.
41:32Good night.
41:44It's for you.
41:46It's for you.
41:46Thanks, Charlie.
41:48Yeah, Bradford.
41:49Never tell a crook where you hide your money.
41:52Lucy?
41:53Lucy?
41:54You told me to think like a criminal.
41:55So, after you got your ass kicked, I grabbed your money clip.
42:00I wonder how you're going to pay for your bill.
42:03You are in so much trouble.
42:05Uh-huh.
42:06You know what?
42:06Maybe you could wash the dishes.
42:09But you might want to glove up.
42:12Good night.
42:19Charlie, how's my credit here?
42:59Damn it.
