00:13In India, I have seen it was quite slow feeding. You have unit tests, you have exams. They are very
00:20structured.
00:21Here it is not structured. Professors will come, they will this, but then they will go and it depends on
00:26you if you want to go back and research about that topic.
00:29That's why you have a lot of freedom.
00:36But even in India, you see, if you go to some of the finer institutions, there it's much the same.
00:45For example, at Ahmedabad, the case was full of study.
00:48You will have the cases and you have to read and analyze and immerse yourself from your own.
00:57And the professor will not come and really teach. The method is of discussion, not dissemination.
01:03So there is an open discussion and you are free even not to contribute, though you would be academically penalized
01:09for that.
01:10But that's fine, that's fair. The thing is that nobody is going to spoon feed it to you.
01:16That has to do with the confidence and institution, people, a civilization is holding in itself.
01:25When you are assured of what you stand for and there is a deeper inner security, then you can afford
01:31to grant more freedom to the students and to the society in general and also to yourself.
01:36But when you feel vulnerable because you have had a turbulent past and a recent one at that, then you
01:44are a bit tight inside.
01:45You cannot afford to relax and you cannot offer that relaxation and that freedom even to others, be it in
01:53a family or in a classroom or in the wider society.
01:56As you grow more assured of yourself, you will find India too loosening up a bit and getting more generous
02:04with the ones who want to pursue a little divergent ways.
