Part 8

In a May 17, 2023 phone call I told Christ Health CEO Dr. Robert Record MD about my 2019 visit with their Nurse Practitioner Anna Musgraves. She recorded in her notes my injury may be a psychological in nature. I believed my neck or skull was broken. Following an Ascension ER misdiagnosis, partner organization Christ Health's doctors and nurses argued with me and were not helpful in arranging a much needed MRI scan (WHY?). When I secured the scan independently days later it revealed a several inch diameter injury between my skull and first cervical vertebrae.

Despite being a CEO and Medical Doctor Record sounded helpless as to getting a correction to my issue.

I was curiously given paperwork to pursue 3 financial assistance avenues for a urgently needed MRI of my neck and head (SEE IMAGES). I immediately applied for these (Ascension Saint Vincent's Access To Care / UAB Hospital / Cooper Green Hospital) only to find out I did not qualify. Musgraves told me to call her at the Woodlawn clinic to get the MRI referral once I had secured it.

2 days later I found American Health Imaging in Birmingham who agreed to do the MRI for $500 cash and a referral. After paying I had AHI call Christ Health Woodlawn where the receptionist was placed on hold 15 minutes before someone at Christ Health hung up the phone. I did not get the promised referral. AHI agreed to do the MRI without the referral. Radiologist Angus Baird MD (of Birmingham Radiological Group) did not acknowledge the several inch diameter injury between my skull and cervical column of my neck that appeared in the exact area where I complained of pain but it can be clearly seen (surrounded by infection) in those MRI images (and correlates to broken bone in the underside of my skulll that can be seen in a CT scan of my head and neck from an Ascension ER visit weeks earlier).

Dr. Record's response was less than adequate in my opinion. I spent several days chasing my tail, tangled up in Christ Health Center's web of denials and service offerings that led nowhere while I was carrying an injury that I almost died from.

Regarding visits I had at community health clinic The Christ Health Center (Birmingham, Alabama). I was referred here by Saint Vincent's East Hospital (Ascension) after a 2018 X-Ray (the injury was overlooked by reading radiologist Dr. Julian Patrick Druhan MD (also a member of Birmingham Radiological Group)) I had done was said to be "normal". Doctors Terry Daniel Smith ("T. Daniel Smith") did the encounter with me in May, 2019. Attempts to obtain a referral for an MRI to reveal the injury (I needed one that day, immediately) were not facilitated and he wanted to go a different route with the treatment. I feel I was not treated as a human being, my opinions were ignored, he levied an ultimatum, and so I walked out. I was charged for medical procedures not performed on me (see records and bills).

00:00I'm speaking to Robert Record, CEO in the state of Alabama, licensed medical doctor for Christ Health Center. Is that
00:07correct?
00:08Sir, yeah, this is Robert Record. How can I help you? It sounds like you're upset. I would love to
00:13be of great help to you. I know we've got you for you. What can I do for you? It's
00:17been four years.
00:18Oh, yes. It's been four years. I've been trying to get that issue resolved for four years, actually. I saw
00:25Dr. Terry Daniel Smith, MD, and he was at the Chalkville, Old Springville Road Christ Health Center.
00:34My issue with my Christ Health visit, 2019, I believe I received no measurable level of service in my visit,
00:43and I had two visits, okay?
00:46The one with the doctor, Terry Daniel Smith, and that visit was $109. I had a visit with Nurse, NP,
00:56and Musgraves, $107.
00:58What happened was I paid the $500 cash. They called Christ Health Center in Woodlawn, put on hold for 15
01:06minutes. Somebody at Christ Health Center hung up the phone. I did not get that referral for that MRI.
01:14I'm sorry, that happened.
01:16I mean, there's more issues involved than that. I mean, your answer's not good enough, sir.
01:24What would be a good enough answer, sir?
01:26Well, you're the doctor. You tell me. Would you like to see my injury? You need to see my pictures,
01:33and then you can give your opinion.
01:37I'm trying to ask you, what would make you? You've been through a lot. What could we do?
01:44I had a very...
01:45...a way that makes you feel honored, as you should feel honored.
01:49Well, okay, when it comes to the negligence involved in that Ascension situation, I had a lot of problems getting
02:00my injury even acknowledged.
02:02And the damages, like, total with Ascension, Christ Health Center, and everybody else, we're talking several million dollars damages, okay?
02:13And I'm not sure what the portion that Christ Health Center is responsible for, but I had a very serious
02:22injury I almost died from.
02:23I was dealing with state Alabama licensed doctors and nurses, and all you can tell me is that you're sorry
02:31that happened.
02:32That's not good enough.
02:33And you're a CEO for a company?
02:35How many doctors do you have that work for you, sir?
02:38I mean, that's a pathetic answer.
02:40Yeah, your responses are not very encouraging either.
02:43I can tell you we care about you, and we're sorry you've been through a lot.
02:46I don't know how to give you the response you want, because nothing I can do can make what you
02:52went through in 2019 with the fracture in your skull better.
02:56And I'm sorry that you went through that.
02:57Okay, yeah, I mean, your answer is pathetic, but what I need done from that 2019 visit, I need my
03:06injury acknowledged in that visit.
03:09Because with nurse Anna Musgraves, besides her reneging on giving me that MRR referral, okay, she also wrote in her
03:18records that she believed that my physical injury, broken skull, was a psychological issue.
03:26And that's a big problem, because that actually hurts me.
03:29It's an insult.
03:31You need to take a look at my situation, and I need a doctor's signature on the true nature of
03:37my injury.
03:39As it existed in 2019, that would be a good start.
03:43Now, I can't alter her notes.
03:45That's definitely illegal.
03:47But I can try to help in some way.
03:49You've got a lot of doctors who work for you.
03:52I want to show them my pictures from those MRI and CT scans.
03:56You can look at those images, and I want you to tell me, or have some doctor tell me, what
04:02injury existed that I took into Christ Health Center and was given this ridiculous service.
04:10Okay, now, on the surface, Dr., excuse me, Anna Musgraves, didn't try to connect you to an MRR ice camp.
04:17So, I know that's in the...
04:19When we called...
04:20It's not a psychological.
04:21She said, we do need to work it up, and was saying, let's get an MRR ice camp.
04:25When I called Woodlawn to get that referral from Anna Musgraves, they hung up the phone after 15 minutes.
04:33It's not acceptable.
04:35I'm sorry that happened.
04:37Where did you go to the doctor after that?
04:40I've been to a lot of doctors, but again, I do not trust...
04:43I don't trust you guys, and I don't...
04:45I'm not interested...
04:47Yeah, I'm not going to talk about what doctors I've been to.
04:49I've been to a lot.
04:51But, I mean, you know, I don't get a good feeling of trust talking to you right now at this
04:56moment.
04:57And so, I'm not going to talk about that stuff with you.
05:00Okay.
05:01I was just trying to figure out the course of your medicine, your medical history there.
